  • Passing data to notification page

    I'm not sure what the best way of populating a notification page is. I've been using sessions to populate it with information, but this falls short if the user is blocking cookies. I've considered passing it in HTTP GET variables, but I'm unsure whether it's a good alternative since its length is limited by some browsers. Which method do you prefer?

  • indicate tuncation in ToolTipStatusLabel automatically

    I have a .NET application with a StatusStrip holding three ToolTipStatusLabels. The Text of the labels are filled from the application as they show the status. For some circumstances they can hold an empty text. When I resize the window, the ToolTipStatusLabels are hidden when they cannot be fit in the StatusStrip. I would like to have the text truncated when the label cannot be fit in the StatusStrip. The default behavior to hide the label makes it difficult to distinguish between empty text or hidden label. To indicate that the text is truncated automatically, this should be indicated with an ellipsis (...). How can this be done?

So I am able to get the user's IP Address in ASP.NET but how to get other details. If its possible (which i don't thin it is) then tell me else tell me some alternate way to do this, is there any online FREE service using which ican get these details.   • What's needed in a complete ASP.NET environment?

    We have a ASP3.0 application with a few ASP.NET (2.0) dittys mixed in. (Our longtime goal is to migrate everything to ASP.NET but that's not important for this issue) Our current test/deploy workflow is like this: 1 Use notepad++ or VS2008 to fix a bug/feature (depending on what I have open) 2 Open my virtual test-server 3 Copy the fixed file over, either with explorer, or if I can be bothered to open it, WinMerge 4 Test that the fix works 5 Close the virtual test-server 6 Connect to our host with VPN 7 Use WinMerge to update the files necessary 8 Pray to higher powers that the production environment is not so different that something bombs. To make things worse, only I have access to my "test-server". So I'm the only one testing it. I really want to make this a bit more robust, I even have a subversion setup running. But I always forget to commit changes... And I don't even work in my checked out folder, but a copy of what is currently in production... Can someone recommend some good reading on deploying, testing, staging and stuff like that. I currently use VS2008 and want to use subversion or GIT (or any other free VCS). Since I'm the only developer, teamsystem is not really an option (cost-related). I have found myself developing an "improved" feature, only to find a bug in the same feature in the production system. And since my "improved" feature incorporated deleting some old functionality, I have to fix bugs directly in production... That's not a fun feeling... (I have inherited this system recently... So it's not directly my fault that it is like this ;) )

    Hi all, could someone explain me what's the idea behind using Auto-Implemented Properties c#? public class Customer { public int ID { get; set; } public string Name { get; set; } } I get the motivation to use properties for private field, so we can determine how one can access a private field. But here - it's just like defining the field to be public from the first place. no? Is there a difference between defining a field to be "public const" or define it to have a get-only property ?   • no longer an issue

    I am still new to c# and wpf This program is a clock with different view and I would like to use the context menu to change between view, but the error says that there is no definition or extension method for the events.   • Automatic VM deployment

    I have an idea to streamline deployments of prototypes within our team using VMs. The idea would be that a developer would be able to deploy their artifacts to Maven, then use a Web interface to pull them onto a development VM for integration/regression testing. They would then be able to to push those artifacts to a reference system, and finally onto production. I'm currently thinking of doing this myself using the vSphere Java API ( http://vijava.sourceforge.net/ ), and some simple scripting to grab artifacts from the Maven repository, configuration from SVN, and then start up a JBoss server. It feels like the kind of thing that may already be available though, has anyone heard of something similar?

  • Internationalizing a Python 2.6 application via Babel

    We're evaluating Babel 0.9.5 [1] under Windows for use with Python 2.6 and have the following questions that we we've been unable to answer through reading the documentation or googling. 1) I would like to use an _ like abbreviation for ungettext. Is there a concencus on whether one should use n_ or N_ for this? n_ does not appear to work. Babel does not extract text. N_ appears to partially work. Babel extracts text like it does for gettext, but does not format for ngettext (missing plural argument and msgstr[ n ].) 2) Is there a way to set the initial msgstr fields like the following when creating a POT file? I suspect there may be a way to do this via Babel cfg files, but I've been unable to find documentation on the Babel cfg file format. "Project-Id-Version: PROJECT VERSION\n" "Language-Team: en_US \n" 3) Is there a way to preserve 'obsolete' msgid/msgstr's in our PO files?   • Grails gdoc editor support (esp IntelliJ)

    Since Grails 1.2 there's a documentation engine included: gdoc. The documentation's syntax is based on the Textile format. Is there some editor support for this? My first choice would be a plugin for IntelliJ, second option on for vim or gedit. Any hints welcome. I am totally a aware that the format is very simple by itself but having code coloring and content assist would be really nice.

  • RoR: How to prevent Url change after erronous edit?

    In a standard generated scaffold project, when you are on an edit page, the URL looks like; /something/3/edit However, when the page doesn't validate, it runs the following code: format.html { :action => "new" } and the page url changes to; /something/3 (no /edit) Why is this is this and how to prevent it, as it looks inconsistent to me and thus confusing.   • Architecting a generic search result web control

    In a project I'm currently working for we've stumbled upon the need for several kinds of search results presentation controls. The search result are similar, but not identical. For example, in the "office search" result we might want to present the office name and location, while in the "document search" could contain document name, author and publishing date. These fields should be sortable. My current strategy is to employ the Factory pattern and do something like this: ISearchResult officeResults = SearchResultFactory.CreateOfficeSearchResults(data); ISearchResult documentResults = SearchResultFactory.CreateDocumentSearchResults(data); The problem is: I don't know how to implement the markup code. Should I just do Controls.Add(officeResults); in the containing page? Or is there some ASPX trickery to create generic web controls? Or maybe I'm overthinking this and just should create five classes? ;)
