• How does java permgen relate to code size

  I've been reading a lot about java memory management, garbage collecting et al and I'm trying to find the best settings for my limited memory (1.7g on a small ec2 instance) I'm wondering if there is a direct correlation between my code size and the permgen setting. According to sun: The permanent generation is special because it holds data needed by the virtual machine to describe objects that do not have an equivalence at the Java language level. For example objects describing classes and methods are stored in the permanent generation. To me this means that it's literally storing my class def'ns etc... Does this mean there is a direct correlation between my compiled code size and the permgen I should be setting? My whole app is about 40mb and i noticed we're using 256mb permgen. I'm thinking maybe we're using memory that could be better allocated to dynamic code like object instances etc...

• What are good and bad jitter times for a LAN

  Ive just ran jperf (frontend to iperf) on our network between 2 workstations, its recorded jitter between 0.033ms and 0.048ms. Is this good or bad? Are there more variables that i would need to consider to make the decision? EDIT: TCP/IP Ethernet LAN 43 PCs 1 server, 100Mbits main switch, various small 8 port switches, test was done using UDP, Its a Windows Domain. I want to instal a few voip softphones on the workstations, see how many i can use that reliably work, im testing a few different workstations around the network to see where the best quality network paths are. Will also change some equipment if i identify bad connections.

• Aruba Wireless Controller 200 and AP70 manual

  I have an Aruba wireless system that is currently in use but there is no documentation from the previous person in charge. I have no manuals or login information for the wireless controllers and APs. I checked the Aruba website and you need to register to access the support information but registration isn't instant and takes several days. I've waited for quite a while now and have tried googling and checking the Aruba forums but have found no indication of a manual. What I really need is the ability to reset the controller and APs so I can access the device with the default username and password. There is no reset button on this device so I have no idea how you go about resetting the controller and APs. Hm it seems I can't create a new tag as a new user. If possible can someone add an "Aruba" tag?

• Simple switch ports state monitoring tool

  My users keep unplugging our meeting rooms computers network connection. As i can't check the computers every time a meeting ends, i'd like to find a tool, preferably running on windows, that can monitor some cisco switch ports state, and every time a cable is being unplugged, send me an email. I know that some monitoring solutions can do that already, but i wonder if something simplier (and preferably cheap / free of course !) exists.

  Hi, Is there a way to set up the LAN connection to connect via proxy, instead of having to set the browser connection up? If the LAN is set up to go through proxy, then all applications - even non-browser ones, will go through the proxy, and that's what I'm trying to do. Thanks! (MS Windows/Vista)

• Workstation 7 build 203739 - Capture Movie Mouse Pointer Not Visible

  Hi, I have noticed that whenever I create a Capture Movie, the movie is fine but the mouse pointer is not visible at all. The clicks are on buttons file menus are executed but is hard for a viewer of the capturre movie session to follow the recording smoothly. This was not a problem in previous versions of WorkStation. Is this a bug or is there a setting I can set to see the mouse pointer? Note: VM Tools are installed, Host is Vista Ultimate Edtion SP1, x64 and the guest is a Win XP SP2.   I want to check a svn url and to get the earliest revision, then checkout it, I don't want to use HEAD because I will compare the earliest revision to others. so I use "svn info" to get the "Last Changed Rev" for the url like this: D:\Project>svn info svn://.../branches/.../path Path: ... URL: svn://.../branches/.../path Repository Root: svn://yt-file-srv/ Repository UUID: 9ed5ffd7-7585-a14e-96b2-4aab7121bb21 Revision: 2400 Node Kind: directory Last Changed Author: xxx Last Changed Rev: 2396 Last Changed Date: 2010-03-12 09:31:52 +0800 but, I found the 2396 revision is not checkout-able, because this path is in a branch copied from trunk, and the 2396 is the revision modified in the trunk. so when I use svn checkout -r 2396, I will get a working copy for the path in the trunk, then I can not do checkin for the branch. D:\Project>svn checkout svn://.../branches/.../path -r 2396 workcopy ..... ..... D:\Project>svn info workcopy Path: workcopy URL: svn://.../trunk/.../path Repository Root: svn://yt-file-srv/ Repository UUID: 9ed5ffd7-7585-a14e-96b2-4aab7121bb21 Revision: 2396 Node Kind: directory Schedule: normal Last Changed Author: xxx Last Changed Rev: 2396 Last Changed Date: 2010-03-12 09:31:52 +0800 So, my question is how to get a checkout-able revision for the branch path, for this example, I want to get 2397 (because 2397 is the revision which copy occur). • Visual Studio 2008 marks solution files as version 10.00

  Hi After trying out VS2010b2 also my VS2008 installation changes the versions of solution and project files to "Version 10.00". The MSBuild.exe on our CI Server does not support them. Is there a way to make VS2008 generate sln files with version number 9.00 again? I know, i can fix that manually. But each time I open a solution, the version gets changed back, which is annoying. • git: Your branch is Ahead by X commits

  How does this actually come about? I am working in one repo by myself at the moment, so this is my workflow: 1- change files 2- commit 4- repeat until satisfied 4- push to master Then when I do a git status it tells me that my branch is ahead by X commits (presumably the same number of commits that I have made). Is it because when you push the code it doesn't actually update your locally cached files (in the .git folders)? git pull seems to 'fix' this strange message, but I am still curious why it happens, maybe I am using git wrong?

PerlCritc is a static source code analyzer that qritiques code and warns about everything from unused variables, to unsafe ways to handle data to almost anything. Is there such a thing for PHP that could (preferably) be run outside of an IDE, so that source code analysis could be automated?

• scons LIBPATH generates additional library paths

  I'm building a C project using scons, some internal static libraries are build and the exe files are linked to it. However, setting: env['LIBPATH'] = ['#build/libs'] generates a -Llibs and a -Lbuild/libs argument to gcc: gcc -o edecode main.o pack16.o pack16le.o pack32.o pack32le.o pack64.o -Lbuild/libs -Llibs -lutillib Why's that ? I only told it to look in build/libs

  Hi, I am facing problem in implementing Input method for Virtual Keyboard, currently I am using robot class for sending input to any application from virtual keyboard. but for that I need to create mapping of key-code and unicode, which is not consistent on different keyboard layout, can I directly pass the UNICODE to any application using Input method without worry about mapping between keycode and unicode. any useful link or sample code will be useful. It is simple Java program which is always on top of any application and work as onscreen keyboard. using a mouse while you press any button (key) of the keyboard, the corresponding character will be typed in the application running below. This is working perfectly for English Alphabets. I am facing problem while I am doing for unicode.

• What does "Computing additional info" mean?

  Eclipse Helios periodically starts running a job which displays "Computing additional info". During this time, Eclipse is very sluggish, bordering on unusable. What does this job do? Can I shut it off? I just hope that someone in the JDT team comes to sense and gets rid of it, make it go faster, or at the very least change it to something meaningful.

  Hi, lang: c#.net 2.0 I have a Application X, that calls SubWindows 1, 2 and 3. I will Pop up a MessageBox, when 1, 2 or 3 is opened. My idea is a timer that ticks every 3 seconds and checks if the windows are opened. But how to find the 3 exact windows? Can I use a Window-Handle-Spy-Application and Hardcode the Window-Handles in my code to find them ever? Or change the window handle when the Application X is opened new?
