    Suppose I have a base class named Visitor, and it has 2 subclass Subscriber and NonSubscriber. At first a visitor is start off from a NonSubscriber, i.e. NonSubscriber mary = new NonSubscriber(); Then later on this "mary" subscribed to some services, and I want to change the type of "mary" to Subscriber. What is the conventional way to do that?

  • What to do of exceptions when implementing java.lang.Iterator

    The java.lang.Iterator interface has 3 methods: hasNext, next and remove. In order to implement a read-only iterator, you have to provide an implementation for 2 of those: hasNext and next. My problem is that these methods does not declare any exceptions. So if my code inside the iteration process declares exceptions, I must enclose my iteration code inside a try/catch block. My current policy has been to rethrow the exception enclosed in a RuntimeException. But this has issues because the checked exceptions are lost and the client code no longer can catch those exceptions explicitly. How can I work around this limitation in the Iterator class? Here is a sample code for clarity: class MyIterator implements Iterator { @Override public boolean hasNext() { try { return implementation.testForNext(); } catch ( SomethingBadException e ) { throw new RuntimeException(e); } } @Override public boolean next() { try { return implementation.getNext(); } catch ( SomethingBadException e ) { throw new RuntimeException(e); } } ... }

  • Assembly reference from ASP.NET App_Code directory

    I have trouble getting a custom ObjectDataSource for an asp:ListView control to work. I have the class for the DataSource in the App_Code directory of the web application (as required by the asp:ListView control). using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.ComponentModel; using System.Configuration; using System.Data; using System.Data.Common; using System.Web; using System.DirectoryServices; [DataObject] public class UsersDAL { [DataObjectMethod(DataObjectMethodType.Select)] public List<User> LoadAll(int startIndex, int maxRows, string sortedBy) { List<User> users = new List<User>(); DirectoryEntry entry; return users; } } As soon as I add using System.DirectoryServices; the page crashes with this message: Compiler Error Message: CS0234: The type or namespace name 'DirectoryServices' does not exist in the namespace 'System' (are you missing an assembly reference?) Without the usage of System.DirectoryServices the page loads without problems. The reference is there, it is working in classes outside the App_Code directory.

    I have an Excel spreadsheet. One of the columns in the spreadsheet contains the name of a pdf file; page number (name of file;5). I would like help with writing a VBA function so that when the user clicks in any of the cells in that column the name of the file and the page number are passed as variables and the pdf file opens to the page specified.     I am writing a string parser and the thought occurred to me that there might be some really interesting ways to convert an ASCII hexadecimal character [0-9A-Fa-f] to it's numeric value. What are the quickest, shortest, most elegant or most obscure ways to convert [0-9A-Fa-f] to it's value between 0 and 15? Assume, if you like, that the character is a valid hex character. I have no chance so I'll have a go at the most boring. ( c <= '9' ) ? ( c - '0' ) : ( (c | '\x60') - 'a' + 10 )

  • Is it possible to have CommandManager requery only specific WPF command instead of all?

    I'm trying to implement a highly responsive UI for my MVVM application, so I've chosen to have all command handlers automatically execute in a BackgroundWorker so they don't block the UI. But at the same time, I don't want the user to be able to execute the same command while it is still executing in the background. The solution seems obvious: When Executed handler is invoked, have the CanExecute handler return false Start the BackgroundWorker async When BackgroundWorker finishes, have the CanExecute handler return true again. Problem is, I need to notify WPF after step 1 and again after step 3 that CanExecute has changed and that it should be required. I know I can do it by calling CommandManager.InvalidateRequerySuggested, but that causes CanExecute handlers of all other commands to be requeried as well. Having a lot of commands, that's not good. Is there a way to ask for requery of a specific command - i.e. the one that is currently being executed? TIA

But, I can't seem to pull after that.   • Any ideas for developing a Risc Processor friendly string allocator?

    I'm working on some tools to enable high throughput data-oriented development, and one thing that I've not got an immediate answer for is how you go about allocating strings quickly. On risc processors you've got another problem of implementation that the CPU doesn't like branching, which is what I'm trying to minimise or avoid. Also, cache coherence is important on most CPUs, so that's gotta be influential in the design too. So, how would you go about reducing the overhead for a generic string allocator? Sometimes it's easier to solve a more explicit problem, so any ideas for string sizes of 5-30?

  • IgnoreArguments including an Action<T>

    I'm probably missing something obvious here, so apologies in advance! Using Rhino Mocks, how do I set an expectation that a method taking an Action will be called, but I want to use IgnoreArguments. Obviously I can't specify null as that isn't an Action, and I dont want any meaningless code in the test. As I said, it's probably obvious by the syntax is eluding me at the moment!

When the image is fully loaded then it should be displayed instead of the wait gif. If it helps, the site is http://farros.gr, main image: /images/bg.jpg and the div containing the image is named #main-content-image.

  • Using JavaScript eval to parse JSON

    Question: I'm using eval to parse a JSON return value from one of my WebMethods. I prefer not to add jquery-json because the transfer volume is already quite large. So I parse the JSON return value with eval. Now rumors go that this is insecure. Why ? Nobody can modify the JSOn return value unless they hack my server, in which case I would have a much larger problem anyway. And if they do it locally, JavaScript only executes in their browser. So I fail to see where the problem is.
