• Howto find internal IP server by external IP

  I've got 12 servers in datacenter, but can login by SSH into one of them (facade server), other servers available only from it. • How can I too many files upload more fast way to Cloud files in Rasckspace?

I think one files tar and uncompress directory is better way. but cloudfiles do not support this way. Who know any other way?

• Troubleshooting Website problems within the local network

  Have an external website which opens fine on some PC's, yet seems to time out (or symptoms of timing out, but never actually does) on others. Seems to only affect (some) of our newer HP Pro 3305 MT Workstations. All of which are running Win7 32bit SP1 with all updates. Older PC's (Win7 32bit SP1 & WinXP) are unaffected. Using Google Chrome & Firefox makes no difference. Opening the website in IE9 Compatibility Mode has exactly the same symptoms. All PC's are on the same local network (Workgroup) using the same DNS server & gateway (inhouse) on the same internet connection, on the same subnet. There is no proxy server, no content filtering, no load balancing etc etc. Only group policy in effect (locally) is for Update scheduling. Local firewalls are all the same (Kaspersky WP4) and our external facing firewall has no IP specific settings. I have no control over the external website, traceroute shows the same destination on all PC's. It is a fairly popular website in our industry (Horticulture) and i'm not aware of any other people (even other sites within our sister companies) with the same problem. Update: Used Fiddler2 to monitor the HTTP request, seems its not getting fulfilled for some reason?! • NRPE: Unable to read output with check_connections plugin

• How to select a user and remove all groups they are a member of using Powershell (with Quest)?

  I've read quite a bit online about this and thought I had found a solution, but it doesn't seem to be working like I would expect. I am wanting to get a user based on the username I input, then remove all groups that it is a member of. Basically the same thing as going into ADUC, selecting the user, selecting the Member Of tab, highlighting everything (except domain users of course) and selecting remove. Here's the command I'm trying to use: Get-QADUser -Name $username | Remove-QADMemberOf -RemoveAll Others have said online that it works for them, but so far it hasn't for me. It doesn't give an error, it accepts the command just fine, but when I look in ADUC, the groups are still there for the user. Any suggestions as to what I may be doing wrong? Executing from Windows 7 with domain admin rights, Exchange cmdlets and Quest snapin loaded. Thanks!

• Debian Linux server hangs after a week or so

  I have 2 Debian Linux 6.0.4 servers that have a strange behaviour: after 5-7-10 days they hang. By this I mean the servers need to be restarted and before that ping won't answer. I've been struggling with this problem for a couple of months now and here's some thoughts/what I tried without being able to solve the problem. I changed the RAM on a server. Being 2 different servers I doubt that it could be something related to hardware as a 3rd identical server won't have this problem. I logged the server load and when it crashes the load is fine (quite low) I cannot find anything in the server logs, logs are fine till the server freezes. I don't have access to console unfortunately. While I have years of admin experience I have never encountered such an issue and right now I have no idea where else to investigate. If you have an idea of what I could try in order to fix the problem please share it with me:-)

  My application requires read access to /var/log/messages, which belongs to user and group root. What is the minimal exposure level required on /var/log/messages so my application can read it? Presently, my plan is to change the group ownership of /var/log/messages to a new group, and add root and my application user to it, but this would also give the application write privileges to /var/log/messages. • Script to restart BlackBerry services

  Can somebody give me a script advice/example of how to restart services? I have to restart 17 services, but the first 4 services have to be in the right order and after the restart command is given to one of the services, the next one should be started when the previous one is finished. I know I can restart a service by net command, and I can build a delay by for example a ping command that repeats for an x amount of times, but I never know in advance how long it is going to take for a service to restart.   This is quite a mistery for me. I usually use passwordless RSA authentication to login into my remote *nix servers with ssh and sftp. Never had any problem until now. • Program for remove exact duplicate files while caching search results

  We need a Windows 7 program to remove/check the duplicates but our situation is somewhat different than the standard one for which there are enough programs. We have a fairly large static archive (collection) of photos spread on several disks. Let's call them Disk A..M. We have also some disks (let's call them Disk 1..9) which contain some duplicates which are to be found on disks A..M. We want to add to our collection new disks (N, O, P... aso.) which will contain the photos from disks 1..9 but, of course, we don't want to have any photos two (or more) times. Of course, theoretically, the task can be solved with a regular file duplicate remover but the time needed will be very big. Ideally, AFAIS now, the real solution would be a program which will scan the disks A..M, store the file sizes/hashes of the photos in an indexed database/file(s) and will check the new disks (1..9) against this database. However I have hard time to find such a program (if exists). Other things to note: we consider that the Disks A..M (the collection) doesn't have any duplicates on them the file names might be changed we aren't interested in approximated (fuzzy) comparison which can be found in some photo comparing programs. We hunt for exact duplicate files. we aren't afraid of command line. :-) we need to work on Win7/XP we prefer (of course) to be freeware TIA for any suggestions, John Th.

• After exiting, the home folder cannot be visited?

  I ssh to a ubuntu sever, start a web project(Rails), then I can visit this project. I close the the ssh terminal, then the project says can not find files(view pages,css files and so on). I put the project in the home folder(/home/byht). why? When closing the ssh terminal, the user's folder can not be visited ? You know, when I put the project in another folder(/usr/local), everything goes well.

• What does the fan speed sensor really report?

  I have an overheating issue on my netbook (ASUS EeePC 1015PW), which I'm trying to troubleshoot. Using lm-sensors while overheating gave me this output : acpitz-virtual-0 Adapter: Virtual device temp1: +86.0°C (crit = +100.0°C) eeepc-isa-0000 Adapter: ISA adapter fan1: 4089 RPM coretemp-isa-0000 Adapter: ISA adapter Core 0: +82.0°C (crit = +100.0°C) Core 1: +80.0°C (crit = +100.0°C) But I can't hear the fan. So I enabled manual pwm controling and set the fan to full speed, and after a few minutes I got this output : acpitz-virtual-0 Adapter: Virtual device temp1: +65.0°C (crit = +100.0°C) eeepc-isa-0000 Adapter: ISA adapter fan1: 4016 RPM coretemp-isa-0000 Adapter: ISA adapter Core 0: +62.0°C (crit = +100.0°C) Core 1: +58.0°C (crit = +100.0°C) And this time I could hear the fan spinning. So there's quite obviously an issue with either fan control or fan monitoring. Hence the question : what kind of physical information does the fan sensor really report? Thank you PS. I should have added that the computer is a small, hard-to-disassemble netbook, so I can't and don't want to try experiments like "block the fan and see what the sensor reports".

• Filter tagged threads in Thunderbird

  I have a big issue with Thunderbird, I need to process a lot of emails coming from request tracking system. Since only few of those apply to me personally, I tag these threads with appropriate tags. The issue now is that I would like to filter out threads, that do apply to me and those that I haven't tagged yet. I'm unable to do this, because new emails keep arriving into the already existing threads, and of course, these new emails don't get the tags. Basically I would need some sort of filtering rule, that would apply not to a specific message, but the master message in the thread. Is there some possibility to create such filters, or is there some other facility, that would allow me to do the same? Tags are great, since they are actually saved into the messages and correctly sync across multiple machines when using IMAP.

• Put Google Chrome, AVG on a flash drive

  I often install programs on others' computers such as LibreOffice, which, when they only have a dial-up connection, takes forever to download. So instead I keep it on a flash drive and install it from there. This works fine for LibreOffice. However, some programs, when you download them all you are downloading is a downloader - when you download ChromeSetup and open it, a installer window opens which actually downloads Chrome. Dial-up users then see that it will take 4 hours. Another example is AVG free antivirus - you download an installer, which when opened actually downloads AVG. However this doesn't work too well for dial-up users. How do I put the entire program of things like Chrome and AVG on a flash drive for fast installation on others' slow connections?

• Samba domain controller: remove 1 Windows client

  my domain is controlled by a Samba domain controller running on openSUSE 11.3. It manages other openSUSE boxes and some Windows 7 boxes. Now one harddisk of a Windows 7 computer crashed and I had to reinstall. I wasn't able to get the computer name ("Win26") of the broken PC out of the domain and so I couldn't add the reinstalled "Win26" to the domain again. So how can I remove the entry of the old "Win26" computer out of the domain controller, so that I can add the new "Win26" to the domain again? Is it one configuration file I have to edit and restart Samba? Which file would this be? Thanks in advance for your help! Regards, KB

  i have a cell that refer to more than 1 worksheet and display the result (value) when it found the product from the 2 sheets. SheetA has 2 columns which column A is the value and column B is that product name, SheetB only has product name. • Eclipse Indigo freezes on 'Open Type' search

  When I'm trying to search for a Java class with Ctrl-shift-T (Open Type popup), Eclipse freezes when I'm typing 1 character. It usually takes about 8 seconds to 'unfreeze', but sometimes it won't come back at all.. When it freezes, I see that the eclipse process takes about 1Gig of mem and the CPU is about 100%! I've tried creating a new workspace, adjusting the eclipse.ini (perm size, different memory values), starting with -clean and at last reinstall the whole IDE. Nothing helps.. In the Wired tab, click Auto eth0, then click Edit... In the IPv4 Settings tab, change Method: to Shared to other computers. Click Apply and enter your password when it asks you. Close everything and reboot. Plug the Ethernet cable into both computers. • Home Server: storage virtualisation, what to choose?

  I'm looking for virtualisation solutions for storage and OS for a home server. A sort of private cloud where I manage the storage space independently of the VM one. This question focus on storage management. (I have another question related to the VM/compute instance management). Here my environement and wishes. Server: HP Proliant MicroServer with 8 GB RAM (AMD Turion dual core with AMD-V technology) with 1 250GB system disk and up to 4 HDD (2 TB) for "data" OS types: only Linux (perhaps a *BSD VM in the future) Linux distributions do not matter, I'm familiar with RHEL, Fedora, Suse, Ubuntu, but any other recommandation will be fine The 4 HDD is going to be a software RAID array, probably RAID 5. storage should be "virtualised/cloudified": easy to extend: if I add a NAS on the network, I can include the NAS space capacity within this storage space as one virtual disk. This can be a NAS, an external HDD or another server. cluster FS or S3 style space or OpenStack block storage? Whatever is easier to manage/maintain and easy to integrate/plug to VM/compute instance. I would prefer free (libre, as in a free speach) and open source tools. But it does not have to be free as in a free beer. Note: the VMs I intend to run on top of this server are one dedicated to backup, one for a "owncloud/dropbox"-like service and perhaps one for media server (hosting video and photos). I'm not sure if traditional VMs or compute instance are the most suitable for this.

• Any ramifications to disabling ClearPageFile

  I am runing a Dell XPS 15z with a quad core I7, 8gb ram, 7200rpm hdd, windows 7 ultimate. My laptop was taking around 3 minutes to shut down, which seemed far too high to me. I did a bit of investigation, and it seemed that the ClearPageFile reg entry was set to 1, meaning that upon shutdown my pagefile.sys was being cleared before actually shutting the machine down. When I disable this setting, my laptop shuts down in about 20 seconds - clearly a big gain. My question is, are there any side effects of having this turned off (other than the security risk of the HDD being stolen, and still having any important info that was in the RAM up for grabs)?

There is no such problem in another sections of document. The one possibility how to display whole area of image is to use floating layout like the first image in presented screenshot. But this solution has disadvantage that I have to manually format image positions after changes in text before.

Those are only servers, so no graphical console needed (I don't need VirtualBox) By VM I mean a virtualised environment like KVM, Xen, etc. or a compute instance like with OpenStack storage should be "virtualised/cloudified" see my other question. VM should be able to be migrated to another server in the future if performance cannot be fullfilled anymore by the current server It does not matter if installation of such setup is complicated as long as management tools allow for easy maintenance I don't have Windows at home, so solution should be Linux friendly and would be nice to be web based. But native apps are OK too. System should be easy to enhance: by adding a new server to migate some of the VMs to it. So it's really a kind of private cloud on which I could run some Linux OS. I would prefer free (libre, as in a free speach) and open source tools. But it does not have to be free as in a free beer. So Xen, KVM, VitualBox or OpenStack? What would you recommend?

• Extract photo stills from .vob files

  My parents had all the family slides scanned by a photo lab. The lab returned the digital photos on two DVDs as movies; there's some stock music over a slideshow with fades between each photo. The discs contain only a handful of files, including some very large VOB files. I'd like to extract these photos and import them into iPhoto. I saw this answer about capturing stills, and that might work if I can figure out the right offset from the beginning and the right capture rate. But this approach seems very error-prone for this purpose. Is there a better way? I wish the individual photo files were stored in a directory on the discs, but they're not there.
