• how can i get list of created and deleted files on the server?

  i have a image sharing website , users log and upload image last night i've lost about 30 newly-consecutive uploaded images ... i mean they have been uploaded ... apparently ... they are in the database but the actual image on the server is gone ! error log doesn't show anything ... so i thought my best option is to check list of created and deleted files ... if there is any ! is there a log file for created and deleted files on the server ? i'm using directadmin

• What causes this logrotate behavior in Puppet?

  After running logrotate, Puppet starts writing it's logs into /var/log/puppet/masterhttp.log-20130616. How come it doesn't keep logging in /var/log/puppet/masterhttp.log? It seems normal behavior is renaming the original log-file and start with a clean fresh log-file to start writing in that log file, keeping the other file as a log-archive.   I have Windows Domain level 2008 R2. There are four GC DC in four different physical locations. I have Kerio-based VPN network for replication and remote administration. Here is how network configured: dc1: local IP: 192.168.0.10 VPN IP: 192.168.1.10 dc2: local IP: 10.10.8.11 VPN IP: 192.168.1.11 dc3: local IP: 10.10.9.12 VPN IP: 192.168.1.12 dc4: local IP: 10.10.10.13 VPN IP: 192.168.1.13 That's simple, replication and all works fine but when running dcdiag on dc3 I have an error: A warning event occurred. EventID: 0x000016AF During the past 4.12 hours there have been 216 connections to this Domain Controller from client machines whose IP addresses don't map to any of the existing sites in the enterprise. <...> The log(s) may contain additional unrelated debugging information. To filter out the needed information, please search for lines which contain text 'NO_CLIENT_SITE:'. The first word after this string is the client name and the second word is the client IP address. • Raid 5 scsi fault

  I have no much knowledge about servers and I was looking all day around the internet about finding a solution to my raid 5 problem. All of a sudden two disks failed. The server won't boot (HP Proliant, windows 2003 R2, very old maybe 10 years old). I know that if one disk is faulty then I can add a new disk and rebuild it and things will be fine, the problem is two went faulty :( is this normal? two at the same time? is there any other thing I can do and I am not aware of? other than taking them out and reinserting them back? Windows won't boot. The Array menu shows that disks 0 and 4 are "Missing". Any other tricks or things to do? It is important because for some unknown reason the back up job did not work for a month and I just found out, so I need to make these raid 5 back online again.

  I want to upgrade my current running applications to latest version. But due to some package issue i am unable to install them. I get common error in that: /usr/lib64/libstdc++.so.6: version 'GLIBCXX_3.4.15' not found. • Can Robocopy be made to skip open files?

  We are using Robocopy to redistribute files which arrive via FTP in a drop folder. Ideally we want Robocopy to leave files alone if they are still being FTPd. Having tried various switches, Robocopy still copies the open files. It doesn't delete them, so the FTP continues unaffected. However, we end up with truncated files being distributed to their destination. Can Robocopy be made to skip open files? Perhaps there is something more suitable than Robocopy for this task?

• DNS Server (2008 r2) MMC The server DC01 could not be contacted. The error was: Access was denied

  I've just migrated the AD with the whole nine yards, FSMO, PDC, RID, Schema, etc, from an SBS 2003 to a Win 2008 R2 Std. I have managed to have no error in the dcdiag before I demoted the SBS 2003 from the AD, fsmocheck, conectivity, advertising, dns, etc. The SBS 2003 demoted successfully. After this step I have restarted both, the old SBS and the new Win 2008 r2. After restart the new DC (which is the GC) started with an Access denied to the DNS Server MMC, actually it is looking like I would try to connect to the 2008 r2 DNS server from an older server console I can NOT manage DNS server through MMC nor through dnscmd (Command failed: ERROR_ACCESS_DENIED 5 0x5) I cannot even use the Action Option from the DNS Server MMC because all the options are DISABLED but for "Launch nslookup". I've made a lot of research on the internet but no luck, yet. So I come to ask for help. Thank you very much.

• Ubuntu cannot access internet, LAN is fine

  I have an Ubuntu 8.04 LTS server that is directly connected to our Comcast Business Gateway modem and I have configured it with 1 of our 5 allotted Static IPs. My other machines on our LAN can connect to this server (via ssh, web, ping, etc.) but I cannot access this server from outside our network, and this machine cannot get out to the internet either (ping google.com fails with unknown host).   I want to tunnel all my internet traffic through my vps, so I'm trying to install a proxy server. However: I can't seem to browse the internet through Dante. I get the ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE error. • IE9 GPO Setting "Configure Tracking Protection Lists"

  I've just installed IE9 on my workstations and Server in our network. According to technet article http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg699401.aspx There is a GPO setting for IE9 called "Configure Tracking Protection Lists" located at Windows Components\Internet Explorer\Privacy in the admistrative templates. I can find all the other IE9 settings in the GPO, but I cannot find this one. Does anyone know if there is an updated template, or if this setting was removed from the RC version of IE9? • LDAP over SSL/TLS working for everything but login on Ubuntu

  I have gotten OpenLDAP with SSL working on a test box with a signed certificate. I can use an LDAP tool on a Windows box to view the LDAP over SSL (port 636). But when I run dpkg-reconfigure ldap-auth-config to setup my local login to use ldaps, my login under a username in the directory doesn't work. If I change the config to use just plain ldap (port 389) it works just fine (I can login under a username in the directory). • Changing video resolution with Handbrake - anamorphic and modulus parameter

  I would like to convert a video in 16:9 format (1920*1080) to a 4:3 format (640*480) with Handbrake. Can anyone explain me what are anamorphic and modulus parameters? I tried to set modulus to 2 or 16 on a video but I can't really see the difference between both videos. I would also know if there are different algorithms to change a video resolution and if I am doing it in the right way. Bonus question: What are PAR width and height? They are set by default to 1, should I change them?

  Very strange problem here: openssl successfully creates signatures but only those created as root are valid whereas created by another user (www-data) are invalid!   I really like OS X's iCal. Entering events is easy with the mouse and it also gives you a very real visual sense of how long tasks take to complete. We often work remotely in our organisation, so we use a few shared calendars between key individuals to provide us with an overview of hours worked, availability & schedule conflicts without too much disruption to our various, hectic workflows. It really is a neat solution, especially on shared tasks. How many times have you tasked a remote colleague and then lost the thread on whether that task was completed or not? With shared calendars you get a much clearer idea of what your people are working on without having to pick up the phone or compose a chat. However, there are a few areas where this approach fails... iCloud syncing often needs to be re-jiggered The "view only" option on shared calendars does not seem to work, which makes all shared calendars editable by others There is no decent reporting with this workflow There is no task categorisation or tagging Things get very busy in iCal when working with more than 2 shared calendars I've looked at a few task management apps like Basecamp and Harvest, but nothing appears to let me edit my calendar natively and then sync with a 3rd party. Interested in solutions to improve the above workflow and enable us to elegantly increase the amount of users.

• Nginx works on my linux machine but is not accessible from other computers in my local network

  In my LAN network I have a server with Scientific Linux (RedHat or Fedora based distro), I've done yum install nginx but the welcome page is not accessible from other computers in my network. When I do telnet open localhost 80 and then GET / HTTP/1.0 I get some html code from nginx, so it's running for sure. But when I want to connect remotly, doing telnet open 192.168.3.130 80 I get: Trying 192.168.3.130... telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: No route to host So I assume that there is something wrong with my network settings, maybe iptables or something else? Next step, I turned off iptables: service iptables stop and it helped, now I can connect remotely using telnet. So I think, I need to fix my iptables rules. I did some googling and found this rule -A INPUT -m state --state NEW -m tcp -p tcp --dport 80 -j ACCEPT but it still didn't allow me to connect remotely when iptables is up. Can someone please help me setting a proper iptables configuration?

• Warning popups that direct to 3rd party sites

  Lately, I've been getting warning popups on my browser (latest version of Chromium) that notify me that my Java version of current browser is outdated and needs to be updated. What's alarming to me is that it sends me to some sites I've never heard of like Malest.com. When I block a site, it redirects me to a different one. I don't know how to track what's causing these alerts. I ran Microsoft Security Essential and it found nothing. Any suggestions on what to do to nail down this irritating problem?

• All browsers hang on windows 7 in tab says 'Waiting for...' need restart

  I'm having a frustrating problem with browsers on OS windows 7 home premium. IE 10: My web browsing works ok for a while and then pages freeze and tab at top says "Waiting for ...' and never loads. Strangely I can still get to Google search results but if I click anything it freezes. Chrome freezes too and says 'The page has become unresponsive ...kill page' Safari stops also. I have tried clearing cookies, cache, turning off Bitdefender firewall and nothing apart from a restart fixes it. consequently I am forced to restart my computer several times a day to stop this browser hang. I have no idea what could be causing this ..any help greatly appreciated.

• Windows 7 Firewall configuration

  I had a PC set up with a VPN. I used the Windows 7 firewall to block all NON-VPN traffic to the internet, but all LAN traffic was allowed. So, with the VPN connected I could connect to all networked machines and the internet. Without the VPN connected I could only connect to the LAN and had no internet access. Unfortunately my drive failed, and I'm setting up the machine again with a replacement drive. I can't for the life of me work out how to set up the firewall again. I can easily set it up to block all NON-VPN traffic, but can't work out how to that and still allow all LAN traffic whether the VPN is connected or not. Some pointers would be useful. Thanks.

I'm trying to upgrade to 8.1 preview, so I downloaded the 64 bits ISO of Windows 8.1 preview (french):fr_windows_8.1_preview_x64_dvd_2358804.iso My I start the setup from the media, the setup does not propose me to upgrade and keep my applications. Only Keep personal files only and Keep nothing are available. When I read the technet page Supported Upgrade Path, upgrading and keeping everything should be proposed. Why can't I upgrade? Do I missed something?

• What to do when you can not type a letter in Cygwin/bash

  I had a very strange issue that happened as I was editing .bashrc or possible .profile, which made it impossible to press the letter "a" (it is not showing up on screen, although I am able to type it in all other programs as usual. I am not sure, but I was trying to get aliases to work on my computer at the time, so it is possible that I somehow aliased a to "", although I am not sure how that would have happened. I solved this by copying all the files in "cygwin\etc\skel\" (these are the backup starting files in case you ever need to replace them) into my home folder. Just leaving this question here so that other people which run into the same problem know what to do, not sure why I am unable to press "solve your question" at the moment, but I hope that someone who reads this knows how to edit this question so that the next person with this problem knows what to do. Also, not sure if this belongs in this forum or another one, but guess it is more of a unix question.

• Resolution is Being Stupid. Help me?

  I'm having trouble with a new computer I bought a few days ago. I have come to the conclusion that the resolution of the screen is too small, at the moment it is 1024x768 and I think it should be 1280x960, due to a message given at the resolution tab of the control panel. It states: (!) If your resolution is below 1280x960, some items on the screen may not fit on the screen. The computer is an Asus A54H and runs 64-bit operating system with Windows 7 Home Premium.   how can I change delay before focus when having focus-mode: mouse in gnome 3? I am used to this behaviour from my previous WM (awesome), but I decided to give a Gnome another try (last used was gnome2) and I havem more or less happy so far, only this mouse focus thing is bugging me. I am used to no delay when focusing window under mouse, but I cannot find any setting do to this in gnome3. I so far tried googling, some medling with dconf editor but so far I have no luck in solving this. Any help will be appreciated ^_^

I only need to connect to remote hosts, so running a local server by default should be disabled. Is there an easy way to disable certain parts so I can speed up my PC and booting time? I have written this, but it only checks for Firefox in /Applications /bin/cat /Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/Info.plist | grep -A 1 CFBundleShortVersionString | grep string | sed 's/[/]//' | sed 's/<string>//g' For standard users Firefox auto update breaks if it is in /Applications so I instead have it installed in ~/Applications I'd like to check that copy (if it exists), but I can't specify the path in the command since it is unique to each computer. For example: /Users/jon/Applications/Firefox.app /Users/arya/Applications/Firefox.app Presumably I want to use find and pipe the result to my command. This should work for 10.6 through 10.8

Every time I log in, Windows 7 has messed up/reset the toolbar positions like this: So I have to drag them into position again and again, every morning. Fixing the taskbar positions won't help, I tried to google for the problem but it does not seem to be very common. Does anyone recognize that problem and has a solution? Update: This is not the AutoLogon bug. AutoLogon is off. We have installed Novell at our company, and it does not matter wether I log directly onto the Novell network or only to the computer first and to Novell later. Update2: I get the same issue when I logon without Novell, i.e. when I log on only to the computer. When I boot in safe mode, the taskbar looks essentially the same: Update3: KB979155 says it's "not applicable to my system". Creating a neew user is not an option since I don't have the admin privileges to do that - I have almost any other local admin privileges, though.
