  • HP/Lenovo alternative to Buffalo iSCSI TerraStation?

    I'm looking at virtualising some of our infrastructure in order to allow for more resiliance and future expandability. We have successfully virtualised on single servers with Direct Attached Storage and are now looking for a more future proof solution using a high powered host (or two) and a SAN (or two). I'm thinking that the host machine will probably be an HP ProLiant DL360 G7 (all of our exisiting infrastructure is HP). Unfortunately, I am new to the world of SANs. From what I can see, the Buffalo Terrastation III is all I would need in order to setup an iSCSI SAN for VMWare to use. However, I'm a little reticent to go that way as it's a bit too "entry level" for my liking. In particular I would be very keen for more redundancy, power, networking, etc. I'm also very aware that you "get what you pay for". Therefore, can anyone reccommend equivalents from the big boys? HP/Lenovo? I have searched high and low on the HP site and seen many options but am struggling to work out if it is all the hardware I will need. Some options appear to need separate controllers from disk enclosures, etc.

  • Should we develop code on a local machine in a VLAN?

    Because of security reasons, we will not be able to use IIS on our local machines. I'm sure that many of you have faced the same problem, so how did you solve it? Here are the options that we're looking at: Create a VLAN that is isolated from the network for development. This will allow us to use any software, including IIS, that we want. A disadvantage is testing Web services with external organizations, which can be overcome by using stubs. Not use a VLAN and use only the ASP.NET Development Server that comes with Visual Studio, and then deploying that code to the development server. This has the disadvantage of not being able to replicate the production environment during local development. In addition, at least one developer needs IIS for GIS development, so he couldn't develop locally. Thank you for comments or suggestions that you may have!

  • Counting divs for pagination in Jquery

    I want to create a nice pagination in Jquery for a number of divs I have. EG: <div class="container"> <div id="one">content</div> <div id="two">content</div> <div id="three">content</div> <div id="four">content</div> </div> The number will not always be the same so I need to count the divs, and display a pagination like the one below. 1|2|3|4 Clicking on the page number would display the relevant div. I know how to show and hide elements using Jquery and css and have figured out I can count the divs using var numPages = $('.container').size(); but I can't work out how I can display the pagination. Any pointers?

  • Facebook Connect in iPhone app: Able to have two sessions?

    Does anyone know if you are able to have two sessions save in one iphone app? I don't mean two sessions active. I want to be able to let someone switch between facebook accounts in my app without having to logout and back in. To my understanding a sessions state is saved in user preferences and is resumed when you basically say [ session resume ]. What I'm wondering is if I can choose which session to resume based on the uid? If so then I can choose which session to resume. Thanks to all that reply.

  • UITable row to add an item

    I want to make a TableView of phrases which the user can edit. The "Phrase editor" is being displayed modally. My top left is for the Done button right now. I'm considering making a button at the end of the table for "new phrase". How would I implement that? Is it a good idea to follow the "contacts" application and make a + button in the top right, or Should I make the "Add Items" button at the end of the list? What are HIG implications of either one? BONUS: Where can I find some tutorials on Navigation Controllers and Table Views? Thanks a ton.

  • Why can't I set attribute "TYPE" of LI element in IE?

    Hello, I've just come to an unusual beghavior of Internet Explorer IE (v8.0.6001.18904). When I try to set "type" attribute of any <LI> element, it will result into error. I used jQuery (v1.32): $("<li>").attr("type", "test"); The same thing works for DIV. LI element does not seem to have "type" attribute reserved by HTML or XHTML definitions. It also might be jQuery issue. Solution is simple - just use another attribute name :-) But is there someone out there who knows WHY does this error occur? Could it happen with another attribute names? Why the error comes with LI element only?

  • Determine when a loud sound is played in C#

    I want to determine if another program plays a sound above a certain threshold. I am not looking for checking the volume settings on the computer or anything like that.     Hi, In my application I m using following coding convention to open my default screen :-- AppDelegate *ptrDefaultScreen = (AppDelegate *)[[UIApplication sharedApplication]delegate]; [self.navigationController presentModalViewController:ptrDefaultScreen.FrmFlashScreenLink animated:YES]; but when I move to other screen after default screen ,my default screen is still exists even i used [self dismissModelViewController:YES]; to dimiss default screen from view. where I m wrong I want my default screen will be completely removed from view. Is any other way to call default screen before actual application. Please help me out.Thanks in advance

  • WPF windows locked when calling webservice. Even when run asynchronously

    Hi there. I'm having a big problem when calling a web service from my WPF application. The application/window locks until the process has completed. I've attempted to run this asynchronously but the problem still persists. Currently, the web service call I'm making can last 45-60 seconds. It runs a process on the server to fetch a big chunk of data. As it take a little while I wanted to have a progress bar moving indeterminately for the user to see that the application hasn't stalled or anything (you know how impatatient they get).     Hi, I have 20 messages/s, each 1 - 1.5 Mbytes. I need High Availability (2 to 4 servers min). I need low latencey (high daily volume - full RAM prefered). I need persistent poisoned messages queue. Only few clients (about 16), locally. I can have 12-16G bytes RAM per server (brooker). Which JMS message queue / messaging would you recommend ? On what configuration (CPU/RAM) ? Can I propose optionnal NAS persistence (in case of final delivery failure) ? Thanks

  • How can I ajax load new pages/views into MainContent when using a master page

    Hello. Instead of using Html.ActionLink to load subpages into MainContent, I would like to load them with ajax.   • Silverlight caching HTTP POST which results in a 404

    Situation: I am developing a Silverlight-Application which needs Component based on a local HTTP Listener. The HTTP-Listener can't be 'required' to be installed and running when the Application starts, so the Application does the following: Handshake via HTTP POST If Connection failed open a Click-Once Setup to install the component. So far so good.... now the Problem is: If the HTTP POST for the Handshake fails, because the Listener is not running the POST is cached.... and the following Connection Attempts after the Service is running fail, because the HTTP POST is still in Cache after the first try. NOTE: This is NOT a policy-problem. I'm using SL4 PS: I allready tried adding a random parameter to the URL like First try: Second try: didn't work :-(

  • Polishing an user interface

    Looking for examples of some "final touches" to enhance an existing (raw) user interface. I.e nothing related to the core functionalities of the application, but rather examples of all these little details which give an application a "polished" look (new fonts, change in layout, more descriptive labels...others ?) The target platform will be a mobile platform (android/iphone). Note that I'm severly graphically impaired regarding colour and shape combinations, so anything too sophisticated will probably pass me by completely ;)

  • jCarousel, IE6 and Fixed Width

    We are using jCarousel on our websites to display images. Simple enough. We have fairly flexible layouts so the carousels are not always the same width. FF, IE7+, Chrome, Safari etc work perfectly well taking up the space available. However IE6 ends up sending the jCarousel script into a loop and warns that a script is stopping the page from loading correctly. To stop IE6 from failing we are having to specify a fixed width in CSS for the carousel container. Is this a problem that others have had with IE6 and jCarousel?

  • How to add a button on outlook toolbar to a custom form?

    Hi I have an Outlook form that I'd like to provide ready access to by adding a button or link to it on the outlook toolbar. How can I customize the toolbar to do this? Essentially, a single click of the button on the toolbar should bring up the custom form. This should work in Outlook 2003 and 2007 (preferably). If it only works in 2007 that would be acceptable.   • Using Amazon S3/Cloudfront and Encoding.com to deliver web video – step by step for iPhone/iPod/iPad

      The Amazon AWS newsletter for May 2010 had a great link in it to this article by encoding.com on how you can use they service to encode your video for multi-format, multi-bandwidth streaming to many devices, including iPhone, iPad, and Flash with H264.   This looks like it doesn’t actually take advantage of CloudFront streaming, but merely splits your encoded files into the available chunks and includes all of the M3U8 files that point to the different bitrates and such.   This looks like a pretty sweet service in general, especially since they seem to have an API as well, so that may be very useful to those of you out there looking to host video. more later – joel

  • Apache RewriteRule and slashes (%2F)

    I have the following RewriteRule: RewriteRule ^like/(.+)$ ask.php/$1 Which works just fine for requests like: /like/someting+here/something+else But for requests where one of the path parts contains an escaped slash (%2F), the server spits out a 404 Not Found error: /like/one%2Ftwo+things/ Is there any way to fix this? I tried both [B] and [NE] flags (separate and together) but nothing worked.
