  • How do browsers/PHP handle characters outside the set characterset?

    I'm looking into how characters are handled that are outside of the set characterset for a page. In this case the page is set to iso-8859-1, and the previous programmer decided to escape input using htmlentities($string,ENT_COMPAT). This is then stored into Latin1 tables in Mysql. As the table is set to the same character set as the page, I am wondering if that htmlentities step is needed. I did some experiments on http://floris.workingweb.nl/experiments/characters.php and it seems that for stuff inside Latin1 some characters are escaped, but for example with a Czech name they are not. Is this because those characters are outside of Latin1? If so, then the htmlentities can be removed, as it doesn't help for stuff outside of Latin1 anyway, and for within Latin1 it is not needed as far as I can see now...

  • Encoding issue - 2nd band of ISO-8859-1 values do not get encoded?

    Hello, I want to send the pound sign character i.e. '£' encoded as ISO-8859-1 across the wire. I perform this by doing the following: var _encoding = Encoding.GetEncoding("iso-8859-1"); var _requestContent = _encoding.GetBytes(requestContent); var _request = (HttpWebRequest)WebRequest.Create(target); _request.Headers[HttpRequestHeader.ContentEncoding] = _encoding.WebName; _request.Method = "POST"; _request.ContentType = "application/x-www-form-urlencoded; charset=iso-8859-1"; _request.ContentLength = _requestContent.Length; _requestStream = _request.GetRequestStream(); _requestStream.Write(_requestContent, 0, _requestContent.Length); _requestStream.Flush(); _requestStream.Close(); When I put a breakpoint at the target, I expect to receive the following: '%a3', however I receive '%u00a3' instead. ISO-8859-1 is divided into 2 groups of characters: (ref: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_8859-1) The lower range 20 to 7E - is where all characters seem to be encoded correctly The higher range A0 to FF - is where all characters seem to encode to their Unicode equivalent value As '£' is in higher range A0 to FF, it gets encoded to %u00a3. In fact when I use the first few characters of the higher range A0 to FF i.e. '¡¢£¤¥¦§¨©ª«¬®', I get '%u00a1%u00a2%u00a3%u00a4%u00a5%u00a6%u00a7%u00a8%u00a9%u00aa%u00ab%u00ac%u00ae'. This behaviour is consistent. The question I have is why do characters in the higher range A0 to FF get encoded to their unicode value - and not to their equivalent ISO-8859-1 value?     Hello, I would like to make a frequency table with random numbers. So i have created a array that generates 11 random values between 0 and 9999. public void FillArrayRandom(int[] T) { Random Rndint = new Random(); for (int i=0; i < T.Length; i++) { T[i] = Rndint.Next(0, 9999); } }/*FillArrayRandom*/ The result i want is something alike this:(bar height up to 21) So this will be a constant. * * * * * * (the highest value will have the largest row/bar) * * * * 0 1 2 3 .....(index value's) 931 6669 10 8899 .... (up to 11 random values) My question is how do i exactly caculate the frequency between those 11 random values? The bars should have a relative relation with each other depending on there frequency. I would only like to use 1 single array in my program (for the generated values). F = (F * 21?) / ...? Really no clue how to obtain the proper results. If a frequency is =21 write * If a frequency is =20 write * If a frequency is =19 write * etc... Regards.

  • Getting the executed output of an aspx page after a short delay

    Hi all, I have an aspx page which has some javascript code like <script> setTimeout("document.write('" + place.address + "');",1); </script> As it is clear from the code it will going to write something on the page after a very short delay of 1 ms. I have created an another page to get the page executed by some query string and get its output.   • Does whitespace in the title tag affect SEO?

    The site I'm working on uses Umbraco and has xslt macros to generate dynamic page title tags - but the title tags generated contain lots of whitespace and linefeeds. Now these macros can be changed so I'm sure that the contents of the title tag can be condensed, but at this stage of development we'd rather not do any work that is not essential. I've checked W3 and Google but I'm struggling to find something conclusive on whitespace. So I'd like to ask is a title tag formatted like this: <title> Sitename - The official blah blah blah - Section - Section Search Results </title> any worse for SEO than: <title>Sitename - The official blah blah blah - Section - Section Search Results</title> ... and are there any other implications to leaving the title tag with whitespace in it?

  • CPanel: Are there logs for login attempts?

    Hello, I tried to login into a cpanel account that hasn't been accessed for a few months and discovered that my login details no longer worked. When I reset the password and gained access into my domains control panel, my email password also didn't work. Upon that first attempt I was given a message reading "Brute force attempt..." So, does cpanel keep a list of logins? or login attempts? Thanks for any help!

  • Foreign key constraints in Android using SQLite? on Delete cascade.

    I have two tables: tracks and waypoints, a track can have many waypoints, but a waypoint is assigned to only 1 track. In the way points table I have a column called "trackidfk" which inserts the track_ID once a track is made, however I have not setup Foreign Key constraints on this column. When I delete a track I want to delete the assigned waypoints, is this possible?. I read about using Triggers but I don't think they are supported in Android. So far I havent got as far as dealing with the count as I'm getting a huge number of results with some 250+ per customer. I assume this is to do with the way I'm joining tables. Schema wise the booking_record table contains a tour reference code, which links to tour_hotel which then contains a hotelcode which links to hotelrecord. This hotelrecord table contains the hotelgroup. The client table is joined to the booking_record via a booking reference and a client may have many bookings. If anyone could suggest a way for me to do this I'd be very grateful and hopefully learn enough to do it myself next time! I've been scratching my head over this one for a few hours now!   • Is the following C code safe?

In real code i get char* as a return of a function and i wish to print the character string for logging. However, NULL is also a valid return value of that function and so i am wondering if a null check is required before printing the character string? char* ptr=someFuncion(); // do i need the following if statement? if(ptr!=NULL) { printf("%s",ptr); } I just want to be sure that the output would be same i.e if ptr=NULL then output should be (null) on all platforms and compilers and the above code(without if statement) would not crash on any C standard compatible platform. I want to try LoG filtering using that formula (previous attempt was by gaussian filter and then laplacian filter with some filter-window size ) But looking at that formula I can't understand how the size of filter is connected with this formula, does it mean that the filter size is fixed? Can you explain how to use it?

  • how to sort a multidemensional array by an inner key

    i have this enormous array that i am pulling from an API for BattleField Bad Company 2, and the soldier stats can be pulled as a multi dimensional array with an inner array for each soldier, however the API sormats it sorting the soldiers by name alphabetically, i want to sort them by rank (which is just another key within that soldiers array). ive been trying to figure this out for days, anyone have any ideas?     I have a simple Flash just put in for an facebook app. it is so simple that only one frame and one text box. that's all. I have this <fb:fbjs-bridge/> <fb:swf swfsrc="http://path/test2.swf" width="100" height="100" /> <script> <!-- --> </script> and I have no error to show the flash in Firefox & Chrome. But in IE, I get this: VerifyError: Error #1033: Cpool entry 36 is wrong type. ReferenceError: Error #1065: Variable FBJS is not defined. What happen? what does it mean? :)

    I understand how to do a Distinct() on a IEnumerable and that I have to create an IEqualityComparer for more advanced stuff however is there a way in which you can tell which duplicated item to return? For example say you have a List<T> List<MyClass> test = new List<MyClass>(); test.Add(new MyClass {ID = 1, InnerID = 4}); test.Add(new MyClass {ID = 2, InnerID = 4}); test.Add(new MyClass {ID = 3, InnerID = 14}); test.Add(new MyClass {ID = 4, InnerID = 14}); You then do: var distinctItems = test.Distinct(new DistinctItemComparer()); class DistinctItemComparer : IEqualityComparer<MyClass> { public bool Equals(MyClass x, MyClass y) { return x.InnerID == y.InnerID;; } public int GetHashCode(MyClassobj) { return obj.InnerID.GetHasCode(); } } This code will return the classes with ID 1 and 3. Is there a way to return the ID matches 2 & 4.
