  • Objective-C autorelease pool not releasing object

    - by Chris
    Hi I am very new to Objective-C and was reading through memory management. I was trying to play around a bit with the NSAutoreleasePool but somehow it wont release my object. I have a class with a setter and getter which basically sets a NSString *name. After releasing the pool I tried to NSLog the object and it still works but I guess it should not? @interface TestClass : NSObject { NSString *name; } - (void) setName: (NSString *) string; - (NSString *) name; @end @implementation TestClass - (void) setName: (NSString *) string { name = string; } - (NSString *) name { return name; } @end int main (int argc, const char * argv[]) { NSAutoreleasePool *pool = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc] init]; TestClass *var = [[TestClass alloc] init]; [var setName:@"Chris"]; [var autorelease]; [pool release]; // This should not be possible? NSLog(@"%@",[var name]); return 0; }

  • When is #include <new> library required in C++?

    - by Czarak
    Hi, According to this reference entry for operator new ( http://www.cplusplus.com/reference/std/new/operator%20new/ ) : Global dynamic storage operator functions are special in the standard library: All three versions of operator new are declared in the global namespace, not in the std namespace. The first and second versions are implicitly declared in every translation unit of a C++ program: The header does not need to be included for them to be present. This seems to me to imply that the third version of operator new (placement new) is not implicitly declared in every translation unit of a C++ program and the header <new> does need to be included for it to be present. Is that correct? If so, how is it that using both g++ and MS VC++ Express compilers it seems I can compile code using the third version of new without #include <new> in my source code? Also, the MSDN Standard C++ Library reference entry on operator new gives some example code for the three forms of operator new which contains the #include <new> statement, however the example seems to compile and run just the same for me without this include? // new_op_new.cpp // compile with: /EHsc #include<new> #include<iostream> using namespace std; class MyClass { public: MyClass( ) { cout << "Construction MyClass." << this << endl; }; ~MyClass( ) { imember = 0; cout << "Destructing MyClass." << this << endl; }; int imember; }; int main( ) { // The first form of new delete MyClass* fPtr = new MyClass; delete fPtr; // The second form of new delete char x[sizeof( MyClass )]; MyClass* fPtr2 = new( &x[0] ) MyClass; fPtr2 -> ~MyClass(); cout << "The address of x[0] is : " << ( void* )&x[0] << endl; // The third form of new delete MyClass* fPtr3 = new( nothrow ) MyClass; delete fPtr3; } Could anyone shed some light on this and when and why you might need to #include <new> - maybe some example code that will not compile without #include <new> ? Thanks.

  • read/write_attribure on associations

    - by artemave
    read/write_attribute is a great way to enhance default accessors generated by ActiveRecord. Like this for example: def price read_attribute(:price) or "This item is priceless and you are by the way #{User.current.login}" end The same however does not seem to be working with associations. Demonstration: class Product < ActiveRecord::Base has_and_belongs_to_many :stores end Then >> a = Product.first => #<Product id: 1, name: "awesome product", created_at: "2010-05-07 12:11:00", updated_at: "2010-05-07 12:11:00"> >> a.stores => [#<Store id: 1, name: "ikea", created_at: "2010-05-07 12:11:28", updated_at: "2010-05-07 12:11:28">] >> a.read_attribute(:stores) => nil >> So, is there some sort of read/write_association? Or, if not, is there a reason not to have one?

  • Calling activateWindow on QDialog sends window to background

    - by Stan
    I am debugging certain application written with C++/Qt4. On Linux it has problems that with certain window managers (gnome-wm/metacity), the main window (based on QDialog) is created in the background (it's not raised). I managed to re-create the scenario using PyQt4 and following code: from PyQt4.QtCore import * from PyQt4.QtGui import * import sys class PinDialog(QDialog): def showEvent(self, event): QDialog.showEvent(self, event) self.raise_() self.activateWindow() if __name__ == "__main__": app = QApplication(sys.argv) widget = PinDialog() app.setActiveWindow(widget) widget.exec_() sys.exit(0) If I remove self.activateWindow() the application works as expected. This seems wrong, since documentation for activateWindow does not specify any conditions under which something like this could happen. My question is: Is there any reason to have activateWindow in showEvent in the first place? If there is some reason, what would be good workaround for focusing issues?

  • Xorg: How can I map AltGr to the CapsLock Key (to toggle 3rd level symbols)

    - by basweber
    Hi, as many others I don't need Capslock. I want to reassign it to have the function of AltGr. I use Kubuntu 9.10 but I think there must be a solution which is distribution independent. I already tried to use setxkbmap or xmodmap. Using xmodmap at least I managed that the CapsLock key to behaves like the Delete key by following this description. But I could not achieve assigning the AltGr behavior to CapsLock.

  • Laptop with internal serial port in 2009 (and 2010)

    - by Vincent Demeester
    Are there any computer vendors (like Dell, Lenovo, or..) that still sell laptops with an internal serial port? We are using several modem and other kind of box at work that have to be used (and/or programmed) with serial port (RS232, DB9, ..). We tried many usb/pcmcia serial adapter which run fine when used to load programs on the boxes but not with modems. The protocol behind the RTC connection (with modem) need timer we are not able to reach when using an adapter (maybe until we find a very good adapter), and that leads to my question..

  • Systematically resolve conflicting styles in css

    - by Frank Michael Kraft
    I have some stylesheets from different sources in my web project. I want to harmonize them. Some styles I need from the one, some from the other. Is there a tool or method how to systematically resolve style conflicts? I tried IE8 developer tool, and yes, it is possible to view conflicts at the level of each element. But I have many elemens, so if I do it element by element I think this takes too long. Theoretically there could be a tool that shows conflicts of two css files at design time?!? I think this would save me a lot of time.

  • When to use RDLC over RDL reports?

    - by Daan
    I have been studying SSRS 2005 / 2008 in the past weeks and have created some server side reports. For some application, a colleague suggested that I look into RDLC for that particular situation. I am now trying to get my head around the main difference between RDL and RDLC. Searching for this information yields fragmented information at best. I have learned that: RDLC reports do not store information about how to get data. RDLC reports can be executed directly by the ReportViewer control. But I still don't fully understand the relation between the RDLC file and the other related systems (the Reporting Server, the source database, the client). In order to get a good grasp on RDLC files, I would like to know how their use differs from RDL files and in what situation one would choose RDLC over RDL. Links to resources are also welcome. Update: A thread on the ASP.NET forums discusses this same issue. From it, I have gained some better understanding on the issue. A feature of RDLC is that it can be run completely client-side in the ReportViewer control. This removes the need for a Reporting Services instance, and even removes the need for any database connection whatsoever, but: It adds the requirement that the data that is needed in the report has to be provided manually. Whether this is an advantage or a disadvantage depends on the particular application. In my application, an instance of Reporting Services is available anyway and the required data for the reports can easily be pulled from a database. Is there any reason left for me to consider RDLC, or should I simply stick with RDL?

  • ROO: how to create composit primary key in Entity

    - by Paul
    Hi, What can I do if I need to create entity for a table in production DB (Oracle 10g) with composite primary key. For example: [CODE] CREATE TABLE TACCOUNT ( BRANCHID NUMBER(3) NOT NULL, ACC VARCHAR2(18 BYTE) NOT NULL, DATE_OPEN DATE NOT NULL, DATE_CLOSE DATE, NOTE VARCHAR2(38 BYTE) ); CREATE UNIQUE INDEX PK_TACCOUNT ON TACCOUNT (BRANCHID, ACC); I don't want to change the structure of this table. Is it possible to create an "id" field using roo commands? I use Spring Roo 1.0.2.RELEASE [rev 638] Paul

  • How do I add mouseClicked event to a swing table?

    - by Ayelet
    Hi, I am a new, terribly green user of Swing. I managed to create a table class using examples from java.sun tutorials, and I managed to load data dynamically into it. I want to be able to react to a click on a row by displaying a dialog box. How do I add the event Handler that will identify the selected row number? The main function code: public static void main(String[] args) { javax.swing.SwingUtilities.invokeLater(new Runnable() { public void run() { try { MainWindow window = new MainWindow(); window.frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE); //Create and set up the content pane. createAndShowGUI(); //... and: private static void createAndShowGUI() { //Create and set up the window. JFrame frame = new JFrame("Data Table"); frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE); //Create and set up data of the content pane. TableClass mainTable = new TableClass(fh.getColNames(), fh.getTableContent()); mainTable.setOpaque(true); frame.setContentPane(mainTable); //Display the window. frame.pack(); frame.setVisible(true); } Thank you

  • Simulated click on "add more value" button of multi value cck field causes whole content form to sub

    - by ninja
    Hi I have a multi value cck field in my cck content type. I want to simulate click on "add another item" using jquery. which is like $('#edit-field-supp-quan-field-supp-quan-add-more').trigger('click'); but it causes whole content form to submit instead of adding extra multi value cck field. Manuall clicks are working perfectly. Can anyone tell me why behavior of manual clicks and simulated clicks are different. thanks ----Update ---- This is the code I was using:- $('#edit-field-freightamount-0-value').click(function(){ alert('hello'); $('#edit-field-supp-quan-field-supp-quan-add-more').trigger('click'); //$('.form-submit ahah-processed').trigger('click'); }); I actually intended to call this from inside some other function but I just wanted to test it before that . So i wrote this dummy function which is like if i click inside a texrfield it should simulate a click on "add more item" How do we prevent default action of click?

  • Microsoft’s Contribution to jQuery – Client Templating

    - by joelvarty
    I am interested to see the community’s response to Microsoft’s contributions to jQuery.  I have been using jTemplates on and off in my apps for a while, but I will certainly check out the new templating plugins put forth by MS and explained here by Scott Guthrie. It may be that some are against the very idea of a company like Microsoft being involved with jQuery, and Scott explains the process with the following: “jQuery has a fantastic developer community, and a very open way to propose suggestions and make contributions.  Microsoft is following the same process to contribute to jQuery as any other member of the community.” I think we can take this in one of two ways:  It’s great that Microsoft sees themselves as a part of a greater community that they can support. It’s the first step in Microsoft’s attempt to usurp the community and have greater control over the web, it’s standards, and it’s developer community. Personally, I believe Microsoft sees the world (and the web) differently from how they did back when IE had more than %80 of the browser market.  Now, in order to keep it’s development products relevant, they are pushing Asp.Net (as they have been for a few years) towards a more open strategy that’s more “web-like” in my opinion. These contributions to jQuery are a good thing, I think.  Now, let’s go try out these new plug-ins and see if they stack up… more later - joel
