  • RSS Reader with inline image downloader for offline viewing

    Guess the title kind of says it all, I know there have been a few of these questions before and I have tirelessly tried to do this research but have had very little luck. Essentially I love Google Reader and gears for offline viewing but more and more blogs are referring to diagrams and pictures in their articles and if I'm on a plane, I am not able to see any of these since they are not downloaded during offline mode. Any RSS readers out there that are?

  • Pass the output of ls to diff

    I have one file that contains a list of files from a server, and a local folder that I compare to that manifest. Obviously, I do 'ls -1 listing_local' and then diff that file with listing_server. But is it possible to diff the manifest and the output of ls immediately to the diff command?

  • A decent S3 bucket manager for Ubuntu

    I'm looking for a decent S3 bucket manager for Ubuntu (Gnome). I prefer it to integrate with Nautilus so it will look like just any other drive (a la WebDAV) but so far I haven't been able to find anything that I'd like to use on a daily basis. What bucket managers do you use for Ubuntu or what bucket manager would you recommend? UPDATE: S3FS seems to be what I'd really want to use since it lets me integrate my buckets directly into my file-system. However, when trying S3FS I do not get the impression that it's ready for prime time. I'm stunned by the fact that there are no decent bucket managers out there for Ubuntu/Gnome, guess I have to build it myself...

  • How can I make 3ds files' size smaller??

    Hey all, Is there any way I can use to make the size of a 3ds file smaller?? I tried to change their length and width using 3dmax but the file size still the same?? I'm using the 3ds files in creating an OpenGl scene so I need to shrink their size as small as I can, any suggestions??

  • gcc does not generate debugger info when using -g, -ggdb, -g3, or -ggdb3

    I'm using GCC 4.4.1 and GDB 7.0-ubuntu on Ubuntu 9.10. However, GCC won't generate debugger info when using any of the following switches: -g, -g3, -ggdb, or -ggdb3. So when I run the program with GDB, its as if there was no debugger information generated. I have created very simple test source files in a new, empty folder. Here is one example: #include <stdlib.h> #include <stdio.h> int main (int argc, char **argv) { char msg[4]; // allocate 4 bytes on the stack strcpy (msg, "hello world"); // overflow printf ("%s\n", msg); return 0; }

  • When NOT TO USE 'this' keyword?

    Sorry for asking it again, there are already 3 questions about this keyword. But all of them tell the purpose of 'this'. My question is when not to use 'this' keyword . Should i use "this" with all occurrences of class variables within the class?

  • Why aren't IOKit notifications being delivered with this code?

    I wrote this code to subscribe to USB devices being plugged in and unplugged; the point is for IOKit to deliver notifications to my iAttached() and iDetached() functions when the corresponding events occur. However, I don't get notifications. The code can be seen here: http://gist.github.com/402391 I didn't want to over-populate this page with it, as it is moderately long.

  • How do I use POST with htaccess rewriterule?

    I have a rewriterule in my htaccess file that looks like this: RewriteRule ^Signup$ /dst2/signup.php I would like to use POST instead of GET for the data that gets passed by this form. The rule above, however, sends the data as a GET. Is there a way to use a POST with a rewriterule? G-Man

  • IE CSS bug: table border showing div with visibility: hidden, position: absolute

    The issue I have a <div> on a page which is initially hidden with a visibility: hidden; position: absolute. The issue is that if a <div> hidden this way contains a table which uses border-collapse: collapse and has a border set on it cells, that border still shows "through" the hidden <div> on IE. Try this for yourself by running the code below on IE6 or IE7. You should get a white page, but instead you will see: Possible workaround Since this is happening on IE and not on other browsers, I assume that this is an IE bug. One workaround is to add the following code which will override the border: .hide table tr td { border: none; } I am wondering: Is this a known IE bug? Is there a more elegant solution/workaround?   • DNS Change replication time

    We have just changed our DNS record to point to a new server running IIS. How long will it take until the address is changed to the new server? Some people can still see the old server and some can see the new. I have flushed the dns on my pc and it seems to be fine although it doesn't with another of my pcs. Thanks

  • 70-536 exam, same for 2.0 and 3.5

    Hi, I have recently booked the 70-536 Application Development Foundation exam. On the above link it says that "If you are a .NET 2.0 developer, you do not need to learn .NET 3.5 to pass Exam 70-536; conversely, if you are a .NET 3.5 developer, you do not need to review .NET 2.0 to pass the exam.". How does this work? Do you choose 3.5 or 2.0 (I'm wanting it for 3.5) at the start of the exam or does it only ask questions that are pertinent to both versions of the framework?

I was promised to have some time to study, but the project is running late (a habit around here). Let's face it, I'll have to study on my own time to get this certification. Anyway, my question is simple: what advices do you have in order to study effectively? I'm halfway trough the book, and I feel like I don't remember anything. Especially when the questions are so precise on classes name and parameters...

  • run the script only once?

    being new to php and coming from asp.net, i would like to know if there is an equivalent of IsPostBack, which calls a function or a method only once, once the user is logged in. i have a facebook application, in which once the user authorizes the application it should enter his details in the database. this basic stuff should have been done using the post-authorize callback url which facebook pings when the user first authorizes the app, but somehow that is not working; hence i have to do it manually. the issue is that, since i'm checking whether the user exists or not in index.php, i would not like index.php to run this code repeatedly for the same user when the user goes to the homepage every time. any ideas?

    There is a PrintingPermission attribute in the framework which takes a PrintingPermissionLevel enumeration with one of these values; NoPrinting: Prevents access to printers. NoPrinting is a subset of SafePrinting. SafePrinting: Provides printing only from a restricted dialog box. SafePrinting is a subset of DefaultPrinting. DefaultPrinting: Provides printing programmatically to the default printer, along with safe printing through semirestricted dialog box. DefaultPrinting is a subset of AllPrinting. AllPrinting: Provides full access to all printers. The documentation is really sparse, and I wondered if anyone can tell me more about the SafePrinting option. What does the documentation mean when it says "Provides printing only from a restricted dialog box." I have no idea what this means. Can anyone shed any light? This subject is touched in the MS certification 70-505: TS: Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5, Windows Forms Application Development and so I'm keen to find out more.
