  • How can I cluster short messages [Tweets] based on topic ? [Topic Based Clustering]

    Hello, I am planning an application which will make clusters of short messages/tweets based on topics. The number of topics will be limited like Sports [ NBA, NFL, Cricket, Soccer ], Entertainment [ movies, music ] and so on... I can think of two approaches to this Ask for users to tag questions like Stackoverflow does. Users can select tags from a predefined list of tags. Then on server side I will cluster them on based of tags. Pros:- Simple design. Less complexity in code. Cons:- Choices for users will be restricted. Clusters will not be dynamic. If a new event occurs, the predefined tags will miss it. Take the message, delete the stopwords [ predefined in a dictionary ] and apply some clustering algorithm to make a cluster and depending on its popularity, display the cluster. The cluster will be maintained according to its sustained popularity. New messages will be skimmed and assigned to corresponding clusters. Pros:- Dynamic clustering based on the popularity of the event/accident. Cons:- Increased complexity. More server resources required. I would like to know whether there are any other approaches to this problem. Or are there any ways of improving the above mentioned methods? Also suggest some good clustering algorithms.I think "K-Nearest Clustering" algorithm is apt for this situation.

    Assuming these objects... class MyClass { int ID {get;set;} string Name {get;set;} List<MyOtherClass> Things {get;set;} } class MyOtherClass { int ID {get;set;} string Value {get;set;} } How do I perform a LINQ to Entities Query, using a projection like below, that will give me a List? This works fine with an IEnumerable (assuming MyClass.Things is an IEnumerable, but I need to use List) MyClass myClass = (from MyClassTable mct in this.Context.MyClassTableSet select new MyClass { ID = mct.ID, Name = mct.Name, Things = (from MyOtherClass moc in mct.Stuff where moc.IsActive select new MyOtherClass { ID = moc.ID, Value = moc.Value }).AsEnumerable() }).FirstOrDefault(); Thanks in advance for the help!

  • Why does animate not work for the first few 'selections' of my next button?

    I'll just start right off the bat and say I'm fairly new to JQuery, so if you see some glaring issues with my code....let me know what I'm doing wrong! Either way, I've been working on a script to fade divs in and out using the z-index and animate. It "works" after about 2-3 clicks, but the first two clicks do not fade or animate as I was hoping....why is that? I'll just throw javascript up here, but if you need/want more code, just let me know.   • Automatically generating Regex from set of strings residing in DB C#

    Hello Everyone i have about 100,000 strings in database and i want to if there is a way to automatically generate regex pattern from these strings. all of them are alphabetic strings and use set of alphabets from English letters. (X,W,V) is not used for example. is there any function or library that can help me achieve this target in C#. Example Strings are KHTK RAZ given these two strings my target is to generate a regex that allows patterns like (k, kh, kht,khtk, r, ra, raz ) case insensitive of course. i have downloaded and used some C# applications that help in generating regex but that is not useful in my scenario because i want a process in which i sequentially read strings from db and add rules to regex so this regex could be reused later in the application or saved on the disk. i m new to regex patterns and don't know if the thing i m asking is even possible or not. if it is not possible please suggest me some alternate approach.     I've noticed that some sites (including http://jobs.stackoverflow.com) have query strings that look like this: http://somewebapp.example/?123 as compared to: http://somewebapp.example/123 or http://somewebapp.example/id/123 What are the reasons that developers choose to implement their web apps' URLs using the first example instead of the second and third examples? And as a bonus, how would one implement the first example in PHP, given that 123 is the primary key of some row in a database table? (I just need to know how to retrieve 123 from the URL; I already know how to query the database for a primary key of 123.)

  • Simulating an identity column within an insert trigger

    I have a table for logging that needs a log ID but I can't use an identity column because the log ID is part of a combo key. create table StuffLogs { StuffID int LogID int Note varchar(255) } There is a combo key for StuffID & LogID. I want to build an insert trigger that computes the next LogID when inserting log records. I can do it for one record at a time (see below to see how LogID is computed), but that's not really effective, and I'm hoping there's a way to do this without cursors. select @NextLogID = isnull(max(LogID),0)+1 from StuffLogs where StuffID = (select StuffID from inserted) The net result should allow me to insert any number of records into StuffLogs with the LogID column auto computed.   • Can I write a .NETCF Partial Class to extend System.Windows.Forms.UserControl?

    Okay... I'm writing a .NET CF (VBNET 2008 3.5 SP1) application, which has one master form, and it dynamically loads specific UserControls based on menu click, in a sort of framework idea. There are certain methods and properties these controls all need to work within the app. Right now I am doing this as an Interface, but this is aggravating as all get up, because some of the methods are optional, and yet I MUST implement them by the nature of interfaces. I would prefer to use inheritance, so that I can have certain code be inherited with overridability, but if I write a class which inherits System.Windows.Forms.UserControl and then inherit my control from that, it squiggles, and tells me that UserControls MUST inherit directly from System.Windows.Forms.UserControl. (Talk about a design flaw!) So next I thought, well, let me use a partial class to extend System.Windows.Forms.UserControl, but when I do that, even though it all seems to compile fine, none of my new properties/methods show up on my controls. Is there any way I can use partial classes to 'extend' System.Windows.Forms.UserControl? For example, can anyone give me a code sample of a partial class which simply adds a MyCount As Integer readonly property to the System.Windows.Forms.UserControl class? If I can just see how to get this going, I can take it from there and add the rest of my functionality. Thanks in advance! I've been searching google, but can't find anything that seems to work for UserControl extension on .NET CF. And the Interface method is driving me crazy as even a small change means updating ALL the controls whether they need to 'override' the method or not.

  • How to use walker to replace core function

    I want to modify the way pages are listed in the navigation, particularly the function el_start from wp-includes/classes.php. I've first modified the classes.php directly and it worked fine butnow I want to revert classes.php and move the modification out of wordpress' internal files. I wrote a walker class that I want to use but I don't know how to use it. I want to replace the current call wp_list_pages() to this: $walker_pages = new Walker_Page_CustomTitle; wp_list_pages(array('walker' => $walker_pages, 'title_li' => '', 'depth' => '1')); I've tried using a filter like so: function wp_list_pages_custom() { $walker_pages = new Walker_Page_CustomTitle; wp_list_pages(array('walker' => $walker_pages, 'title_li' => '', 'depth' => '1')); } add_filter('widget_area_primary_aside', 'wp_list_pages_custom'); But with this filter, the site won't load anymore. The tutorial here says I should put this code in header.php but that just puts my page links in the tag. I hope I'm making sense. Thanks.

  • Multiple SessionFactories in Windows Service with NHibernate

    Hi all, I have a Webapp which connects to 2 DBs (one core, the other is a logging DB). I must now create a Windows service which will use the same business logic/Data access DLLs. However when I try to reference 2 session factories in the Service App and call the factory.GetCurrentSession() method, I get the error message "No session bound to current context".   • Why can't i call Contains method from my array?

    Arrrg!I am running into what i feel is a dumb issue with a simple script i'm writing in powershell. I am invoking a sql command that is calling a stored proc, with the results i put it a array. The results look something like this: Status ProcessStartTime ProcessEndTime ------ ---------------- -------------- Expired May 22 2010 8:31PM May 22 2010 8:32PM What i'm trying to do is if($s.Contains("Expired")) , report failed. Simple...? :( Problem i'm running into is it looks like Contains method is not being loaded as i get an error like this: Method invocation failed because [System.Object[]] doesn't contain a method named 'Contains'. At line:1 char:12 + $s.Contains <<<< ("Expired") + CategoryInfo : InvalidOperation: (Contains:String) [], RuntimeException + FullyQualifiedErrorId : MethodNotFound So, what can i do to stop powershell from unrolling it to string?   • Recursive MySQL function call eats up too much memory and dies.

    I have the following recursive function which works... up until a point. Just about an hour ago, I asked another question, about what is the best design pattern to create interface? I think ASP.net used 3 Tier architecture while developing applications or Web applications. Where as frameworks like Zend, Symphony they use MVC. I just want to stick to a pattern that is best suitable for WebProject Development? May be this is a very silly confusion? But if someone could clear this confusion, that would be very greatful?

    As the title suggests I have two models Products And Orders which are actually two table in my database and I have used a LINQ to SQL class to create there models. Now I wan to create a model named "OrderDetails" which will have properties from both the model like product name and id from product and Order number from orders something like this. An then I want to create a view from this custom model and from which I want to add "CRUD" operation. What should be my approach. And in many scenarios I may have to use data from more than 4 models. Please help. I'm wondering helplessly and I have only two days experience in ASP.NET MVC.

  • Fastest way to find the rotation of a vector

    I have two 2D vectors, say u and v, defined by cartesian coordinates. Imagine that vectors are needles of a clock. I'm looking for the fastest way to find out, using python, if v is after or before u (or in other words find out in wich half plane is v, regarding to position of u). For the purpose of the problem if vectors are aligned answer should be before. It seems easy using some trigonometry, but I believe there should be a faster way using coordinates only.   • Easy way for Crystal Reports to MS SQL Server Reporting Services conversion

    Is there a way to easily convert Crystal Reports reports to Reporting Services RDL format? We have quite a few reports that will be needing conversion soon. I know about the manual process (which is basically rebuilding all your reports from scratch in SSRS), but my searches pointed to a few possibilities with automatic conversion "acceleration" with several consulting firms. (As described on http://www.microsoft.com/sql/technologies/reporting/partners/crystal-migration.mspx). Do any of you have any valid experiences or recomendations regarding this particular issue? Are there any tools around that I do not know about?

  • C++ member template for boost ptr_vector

    Hi there, I'm trying to write a container class using boost::ptr_vector. Inside the ptr_vector I would like to include different classes. I'm trying to achieve that using static templates, but so far I'm not able to do that. For example, the container class is class model { private: boost::ptr_vector<elem_type> elements; public: void insert_element(elem_type *a) { element_list.push_back(a); } }; and what I'm trying to achieve is be able to use different elem_type classes. The code below doesn't satisfy my requirements: template <typename T>class model { private: boost::ptr_vector<T> elements; public: void insert_element(T *a) { element_list.push_back(a); } }; because when I initialize the container class I can only use one class as template: model <elem_type_1> model_thing; model_thing.insert_element(new elem_type_1) but not elem_type_2: model_thing.insert_element(new elem_type_2)//error, of course It is possible to do something like using templates only on the member? class model { private: template <typename T> boost::ptr_vector<T> elements; public: void insert_element(T *a) { element_list.push_back(a); } }; //wrong So I can call the insert_element on the specific class that I want to insert? Note that I do not want to use virtual members. Thanks!

  • Why do mozilla and webkit prepend -moz- and -webkit- to CSS3 rules?

    CSS3 rules bring lots of interesting features. Take border-radius, for example. The standard says that if you write this rule: div.rounded-corners { border-radius: 5px; } I should get a 5px border radius. But neither mozilla nor webkit implement this. However, they implement the same thing, with the same parameters, with a different name (-moz-border-radius and -webkit-border-radius, respectively). In order to satisfy as many browsers as possible, you end up with this: div.rounded-corners { border-radius: 5px; -moz-border-radius: 5px; -webkit-border-radius: 5px; } I can see two obvious disadvantages: Copy-paste code. This has obvious risks that I will not discuss here. The W3C CSS validator will not validate these rules. At the same time, I don't see any obvious advantages. I believe that the people behind mozilla and webkit are more intelligent than myself. There must be some good reasons to have things structured this way. It's just that I can't see them. So, I must ask you people: why is this?
