  • Workflow UI Integration - is WF a good approach?

    - by AJ
Somewhat similar to this question, except we haven't decided that we're going with WF yet. I'm working on designing a system that requires a series of decisions and activities on a "work object," so I naturally began to consider workflow, specifically WF. What I'm wondering is if WF is a good solution for a situation like the following (oversimplified for this question) case (please forgive bad ascii art): __________________ | Gather some info | | (web page) | |__________________| | | / \ / \ / \ / \ / cond \ \ 1 / \ / \ / \ / \ / | | ______________|_______________ | | | | | ______|______ ______|________ / do some / | Get more info | / process / | (web page) | /____________/ |_______________| | | / \ / \ / \ / cond. \ \ 2 / \ / \ / \ / | | |__________________ | | | | _____|_____ _____|_____ / some / / another / / process / / process / /__________/ /__________/ The part I'm struggling with is the get more info (web page) step and what happens subsequent, which would mean a halt in the execution of the workflow runtime. I'm aware that this is possible, but I'm not sure that WF is the best approach for this type of code, as the user interaction may be required at many different points through the entire workflow, and the workflow will drive what data entry screens are needed. We are using a WinForms/ASP.NET web forms package for UI, which is homegrown and difficult to push deployments on, so something like SharePoint integration is out of the question. Our back-end is DB2, and the workflow code (whether it's in WF or otherwise) will need to interact with that as well. I guess the bottom line is, should we look into using WF for this, or would we be better served just coding it ourselves? Can WF easily integrate data entry screens to capture information that can be used further on in the workflow?

  • "Illegal characters in path." Visual Studio WinForm Design View

    - by jacksonakj
    I am putting together a lightweight MVP pattern for a WinForms project. Everything compiles and runs fine. However when I attempt to open the WinForm in design mode in Visual Studio I get a "Illegal characters in path" error. My WinForm is using generics and inheriting from a base Form class. Is there a problem with using generics in a WinForm? Here is the WinForm and base Form class. public partial class TapsForm : MvpForm<TapsPresenter, TapsFormModel>, ITapsView { public TapsForm() { InitializeComponent(); } public TapsForm(TapsPresenter presenter) :base(presenter) { InitializeComponent(); UpdateModel(); } public IList<Taps> Taps { set { gridTaps.DataSource = value; } } private void UpdateModel() { Model.RideId = Int32.Parse(cboRide.Text); Model.Latitude = Double.Parse(txtLatitude.Text); Model.Longitude = Double.Parse(txtLongitude.Text); } } Base form MvpForm: public class MvpForm<TPresenter, TModel> : Form, IView where TPresenter : class, IPresenter where TModel : class, new() { private readonly TPresenter presenter; private TModel model; public MvpForm() { } public MvpForm(TPresenter presenter) { this.presenter = presenter; this.presenter.RegisterView(this); } protected override void OnLoad(EventArgs e) { base.OnLoad(e); if (presenter != null) presenter.IntializeView(); } public TModel Model { get { if (model == null) throw new InvalidOperationException("The Model property is currently null, however it should have been automatically initialized by the presenter. This most likely indicates that no presenter was bound to the control. Check your presenter bindings."); return model; } set { model = value;} } }

  • Why does IIS not support chunked transfer encoding?

    - by Graeme Perrow
I am making an HTTP connection to an IIS web server and sending a POST request with the data encoded using Transfer-Encoding: chunked. When I do this, IIS simply closes the connection, with no error message or status code. According to the HTTP 1.1 spec, All HTTP/1.1 applications MUST be able to receive and decode the "chunked" transfer-coding so I don't understand why it's (a) not handling that encoding and (b) it's not sending back a status code. If I change the request to send the Content-Length rather than Transfer-Encoding, the query succeeds, but that's not always possible. When I try the same thing against Apache, I get a "411 Length required" status and a message saying "chunked Transfer-Encoding forbidden". Why do these servers not support this encoding?

  • jQuery: Self Executing Plugin?

    - by GnrlBzik
I am working on expansion of my jQuery plug-in authoring knowledge, just playing around with my own ideas for learning benefits. So i was wondering how you guys tackle the need of plugin executing without any user specific input. So I have a need for plug-in that executes right away after document is ready, without any user's specific input just as long as doc is loaded, so the only way I see how to execute plug-in on it's own is to attach handler to ready listener that executes my function which I extended the jQuery with. And because this needs to be self enclosed, part of the code, I attach handler to event listener within the function. So how else could one tackle this? Any take at this is appreciated. Thank you in advance everyone.

  • In Zabbix how to separate data of the same type but from different sources?

    - by Jader Dias
I have a machine that receives data from multiple sources. This machine forwards the data to the Zabbix Trapper. I want to be able to view this data separately. One way of doing that is to send data from each source with a different fake hostname. But this is not ideal. I can receive this data in more than one host. I would like to be able to see data from source 1 on host A separately from source 2 on host A and from source 1 in host B. Also posted on: http://www.zabbix.com/forum/showthread.php?t=16503

  • Expired Windows Server 2008 trial remote activation

    - by Garry Harthill
I have a remote server which has an expired license. I can't currently add the new license because of a licensing server error so I need to reboot the machine. My question is will I be able to remote desktop onto the machine and apply the new license or do I have to be physically at the server. I know an activation wizard usually appears and doesn't let you go any further but does this same wizard appear over remote desktop? I don't really want to reboot the machine only for it to not come up again.

  • How to determine if a file has been backed up?

    - by Console
I try to consolidate old drives to new ones of larger capacity. Sometimes files have been renamed, but are otherwise identical. Sometimes an old directory has just a few more files in it than a newer directory with the same name. Sometimes a file has the same name but the size differs. So I often find myself asking the question: Are there any files on this old drive or directory that I haven't already copied to the new drive? I just want to know that I have the files, I don't want to try and sync stuff automatically (Syncing tools tend to just sync, creating duplicate folder structures and other problems, so I prefer to do it by hand). Basically, if an old drive has a file called "foo.bar" ten directories deep, and my new big drive has an identical file called "oldstuff.zip" in the root, I just want a "yes you have it" or "no, unique files exist". Is there a free tool, a script or a quick and easy method (Mac/Unix or Windows) to get the answer?

  • jQuery Toggle with multiple unique DIVs?

    - by tony noriega
    I am using jQuery toggle with a link and a div. I will eventually have approx. 50 divs i want to toggle, and instead of creating a new function for each one, is there a way i can create a class and have it read unique ID's for each div? (if that makes sense) For instance, i will have A1, A2, A3, B1, B2, B3..e.tc.. $(document).ready(function() { $('#slickbox').hide(); $('a#slick-toggleA1').click(function() { $('#A1').toggle(300); return false; }); });

  • SCons: How to use the same builders for multiple variants (release/debug) of a program

    - by OK
The SCons User Guide tells about the usage of Multiple Construction Environments to build build multiple versions of a single program and gives the following example: opt = Environment(CCFLAGS = '-O2') dbg = Environment(CCFLAGS = '-g') o = opt.Object('foo-opt', 'foo.c') opt.Program(o) d = dbg.Object('foo-dbg', 'foo.c') dbg.Program(d) Instead of manually assigning different names to the objects compiled with different environments, VariantDir() / variant_dir sounds like a better solution... But if I place the Program() builder inside the SConscript: Import('env') env.Program('foo.c') How can I export different environments to the same SConscript file? opt = Environment(CCFLAGS = '-O2') dbg = Environment(CCFLAGS = '-g') SConscript('SConscript', 'opt', variant_dir='release') #'opt' --> 'env'??? SConscript('SConscript', 'dbg', variant_dir='debug') #'dbg' --> 'env'??? Unfortunately the discussion in the SCons Wiki does not bring more insight to this topic. Thanks for your input!

  • Cached Jquery selector behavior that I do not understand

    - by gaoshan88
Given the following code why am I getting different values for a and b? I would have thought they would return the same thing: (function() { var a = $('#foo'); var Test = function(){ console.log(a); //outputs 'jQuery()' var b = $('#foo'); console.log(b); //outputs 'jQuery(select#foo)' which is what I want }; })(); This question stems from me trying to stick frequently used selectors into vars. Originally I was doing it in each method (like I did with var b in the above example) but then I found I needed to use the selectors in multiple methods so I moved the assignment out to be available (or so I thought) to all of the methods in that anonymous function. As you can see, it does not work. Why is this?

  • passing multiple vectors to function by reference (using structure)

    - by madman
Hi StackOverflow, Can someone tell me the correct way of passing multiple vectors to a function that can take only a single argument? (specifically for pthread_create (..) function) I tried the following but it does not seem to work :-( First, I created the following structure struct ip2 { void* obj; int dim; int n_s; vector<vector<vector<double> > > *wlist; vector<int> *nrsv; struct model *pModel; }; The threads that I have created actually needs all these parameters. Since im using pthreads_create I put all this in a structure and then passed the pointer to the structure as an argument to pthread_create (as shown). some_fxn() { //some code struct ip2 ip; ip.obj=(void*) this; ip.n_s=n_s; ip.wlist=&wlist; ip.nrsv=&nrsv; ip.pModel=pModel; ip.dim=dim; pthread_create(&callThd1[lcntr], &attr1, &Cls::Entry, (void*) &ip); } The Entry method looks something like this. void* Cls::Entry(void *ip) { struct ip2 *x; x = (struct ip2 *)ip; (reinterpret_cast<Cls1 *>(x->obj))->Run(x->dim,x->n_s, x->wlist, x->nrsv, x->pModel); } The Run method looks something like this. void Run(int dim, int n_c, vector<vector<vector<double> > > *wlist, vector<int> *nrsv, struct model* pModel ) { //some code for(int k = 0; k < n_c; ++k) { //some code end = index + nrsv[k]; //some code } I get the following error when I try to compile the program. error: no match for ‘operator+’ in ‘index + *(((std::vector<int, std::allocator<int> >*)(((unsigned int)k) * 12u)) + nrsv)’ Can someone tell me how to do it the right way. • Java declarations (ordering)

    - by incrediman
In Java, what's generally the most accepted way to organize a class in terms of the order in which declared data members and methods should be listed in the class file, keeping in mind the following and anything else you can think of for each one: its visibility whether it's a constructor, method, or member if it's a method, does it overload, or override other method(s)?

  • Why do I get a "Day too big" error from Perl?

    - by azp74
I have been helping someone debug some code where the error message was "Day too big". I know that this springs from localtime and the Y2038 bug (most google results appear to be people dealing with cookies expiring well into the future). We appear to have 'fixed' the problem by using time to get the current date. However, given that none of our original dates should have hit the 2038 issue I'm sceptical that we've actually fixed the problem ... Are there other instances that anyone knows of where one would hit "day too big"? OS is Solaris. Sample code - the actual code is quite large and the person I'm working with hasn't actually isolated the offending part (which is why I'm worried the 'fix' is not actually a fix). If I can put together something concise which reproduces the issue I will post!

  • Unable to upload a file.

    - by Crazy
User 'X' is the site-collection owner. He tries to upload a 500kb file into a document library, got the error "The server has aborted your upload. The files selected may exceed the server's upload size limit. If you are transfering a large group of files, try uploading fewer at a time." however web-application owners are able to upload the file. what would be the issue, any thoughts? Upload size limit for a file – 5 MB Site Quota template set – 50 MB Used Site Quota – 10 MB file format: pdf file size : 500kb file is on : desktop special characters : no Os : xP IE : 6.0 .Net : 3.5 any thoughts?

  • When using Data Annotations with MVC, Pro and Cons of using an interface vs. a MetadataType

    - by SkippyFire
If you read this article on Validation with the Data Annotation Validators, it shows that you can use the MetadataType attribute to add validation attributes to properties on partial classes. You use this when working with ORMs like LINQ to SQL, Entity Framework, or Subsonic. Then you can use the "automagic" client and server side validation. It plays very nicely with MVC. However, a colleague of mine used an interface to accomplish exactly the same result. it looks almost exactly the same, and functionally accomplishes the same thing. So instead of doing this: [MetadataType(typeof(MovieMetaData))] public partial class Movie { } public class MovieMetaData { [Required] public object Title { get; set; } [Required] [StringLength(5)] public object Director { get; set; } [DisplayName("Date Released")] [Required] public object DateReleased { get; set; } } He did this: public partial class Movie :IMovie { } public interface IMovie { [Required] object Title { get; set; } [Required] [StringLength(5)] object Director { get; set; } [DisplayName("Date Released")] [Required] object DateReleased { get; set; } } So my question is, when does this difference actually matter? My thoughts are that interfaces tend to be more "reusable", and that making one for just a single class doesn't make that much sense. You could also argue that you could design your classes and interfaces in a way that allows you to use interfaces on multiple objects, but I feel like that is trying to fit your models into something else, when they should really stand on their own. What do you think?

  • Unexpected Html.EditorFor behavior in ASP.NET MVC 2

    - by NickLarsen
I am getting some unexpected behavior from Html.EditorFor(). I have this controller: [HandleError] public class HomeController : Controller { [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Get)] public ActionResult Lister() { string[] values = { "Hello", "world", "!!!" }; return View(values); } [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)] public ActionResult Lister(string[] values) { string[] newValues = { "Some", "other", "values" }; return View(newValues); } } And this is my view which is intended to work for both of these: <%@ Page Title="" Language="C#" MasterPageFile="~/Views/Shared/Site.Master" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage<string[]>" %> <asp:Content ID="Content1" ContentPlaceHolderID="TitleContent" runat="server"> Lister </asp:Content> <asp:Content ID="Content2" ContentPlaceHolderID="MainContent" runat="server"> <h2>Lister</h2> <% using (Html.BeginForm()) { %> <% foreach (string value in Model) { %> <%= value %><br /> <% } %> <%= Html.EditorForModel() %> <input type="submit" value="Append Dashes" /> <% } %> </asp:Content> And the problem is that when the post back is made from the view, it hits the correct action, but the text boxes still show the original hello world data while the foreach loop outputs the new values. It feels like something in ASP.NET is overriding my model values from updating the text boxes and they are just displaying the same old values. I found this issue while trying to learn EditorFor with an IEnumerable.

  • Instance validation error: '2' is not a valid value for QueryType. (web service)

    - by Anthony Shaw
I have a web service that I am passing an enum public enum QueryType { Inquiry = 1 Maintainence = 2 } When I pass an object that has a Parameter of QueryType on it, I get the error back from the web service saying that '2' is not a valid value for QueryType, when you can clearly see from the declaration of the enum that it is. I cannot change the values of the enum because legacy applications use the values, but I would rather not have to insert a "default" value just to push the index of the enum to make it work with my web service. It acts like the web service is using the index of the values rather than the values themselves. Does anybody have a suggestion of what I can do to make it work, is there something I can change in my WSDL?

  • hg archive to Remote Directory

    - by Brett Daniel
Is there any way to archive a Mercurial repository to a remote directory over SSH? For example, it would be nice if one could do the following: hg archive ssh://[email protected]/path/to/archive However, that does not appear to work. It instead creates a directory called ssh: in the current directory. I made the following quick-and-dirty script that emulates the desired behavior by creating a temporary ZIP archive, copying it over SSH, and unzipping the destination directory. However, I would like to know if there is a better way. if [[ $# != 1 ]]; then echo "Usage: $0 [user@]hostname:remote_dir" exit fi arg=$1 arg=${arg%/} # remove trailing slash host=${arg%%:*} remote_dir=${arg##*:} # zip named to match lowest directory in $remote_dir zip=${remote_dir##*/}.zip # root of archive will match zip name hg archive -t zip $zip # make $remote_dir if it doesn't exist ssh $host mkdir --parents $remote_dir # copy zip over ssh into destination scp $zip $host:$remote_dir # unzip into containing directory (will prompt for overwrite) ssh $host unzip $remote_dir/$zip -d $remote_dir/.. # clean up zips ssh $host rm $remote_dir/$zip rm $zip Edit: clone-and-push would be ideal, but unfortunately the remote server does not have Mercurial installed.
