  • oddities in interference of linux extened ACLs and 'regular' permissions

    I've got some legacy code which checks that some file is read-only and readable only by it's owner, i.e. permissions set to 0400. I also need to give read-only access to this file to some other user on the system. I'm trying to set extended ACLs, but this changes 'regular' permission bits in a strange way also: $ ls -l hostkey.pem -r-------- 1 root root 0 Jun 7 23:34 hostkey.pem $ setfacl -m user:apache:r hostkey.pem $ getfacl hostkey.pem # file: hostkey.pem # owner: root # group: root user::r-- user:apache:r-- group::--- mask::r-- other::--- $ ls -l hostkey.pem -r--r-----+ 1 root root 0 Jun 7 23:34 hostkey.pem And after this the legacy code starts complaining that the file is group-readable (while it is actually not!) Is it possible to set the extended ACLs in such a way that some other user will also have read-only access, while the file will appear to have only 0400 'regular' permissions?

  • How to get around LazyInitializationException in scheduled jobs?

    I am working on a J2EE server application which is deployed on Tomcat. I use Spring source as MVC framework and Hibernate as ORM provider. My object model has lot of Lazy relationships (dependent objects are fetched on request). The high level design is like Service level methods call a few DAO methods to perform database operation. The service method is called either from the Flex UI or as a scheduled job. When it is called from Flex UI, the service method works fine i.e. it fetches some objects using DAO methods and even Lazy loading works. This is possible by the use of OpenSessionInViewFilter configured with the UI servlet. But when the same service method is called as scheduled Job, it gives LazyInitializationException. I can not configure OpenSessionInViewFilter because there is no servlet or UI request associated with that. I tried configuring Transaction around the scheduled job method so that service method starts a transaction and all the DAO methods participate in that same transaction, hoping that the transaction will remain active and hibernate session will be available. But it does not work. Please suggest if anyone has ever been able to get such a configuration working. If needed, I can post the Hibernate configuration and log messages. Thanks a lot for help!   • Should the function or the caller be resonsible for input validation?

    I'm doing a security audit on a fairly large php application and was wondering where I should include my user-input validation. Should I validate the data, then send the clean data off to the back-end functions or should I rely on each function to do it's own validation? Or even both? Is there any standard or best-practice for this sort of thing? Currently the app does both inconsistently and I'll like to make things more consistent.

My router has these functionalities: SNMP v1, v2c, built-in MIB-I, MIB-II agent. Is it possible to retrieve these informations quering the MIB-II agent of the router in a standard way (not vendor dependent)? Bye

    I've been trying to get the number of unread gmail mails with no luck. I've read Gmail.java and gmail4j both links taken out of this site from this question: Android - How can I find out how many unread email the user has? But still after having read all of that and a couple of other sites that talked about this particular subject my question remains: Q: How can I get the Gmail Unread Count? Sorry if it seams a bit insistent but I clearly lack the knowledge to find this out on my own from the source.   • multiple ftp sites on a single iis server with one ip

    can i have multiple iis ftp sites using something similar to web site's unasigned host headers? i have a dedicated server in a hosting facility and want to make a web site for each of my clients. to add/ remove files and content i want ftp access to each of the sites root folders. lets say i have 10 sites set up using unasigned host headers... how can i set up 10 analogous ftp sites on the same server? AND NOT USE A DEFINED IP ADDRESS FOR EACH FTP SITE thanks all

  • jQuery: Sorting hierarchical data?

    Hi everybody, I have tried for some time to work out a way of sorting nested categories with jQuery. I failed to build my own plugin to do this, so I tried to find something that were available already. Tried a few hours now with this one, http://www.jordivila.net/code/js/jquery/ui-widgetTreeList_inheritance/widgetTreeListSample.aspx and cant get it to work. What are the alternatives of creating a jQuery / jQuery UI script that handles sorting children and parent categories in a way that can be combined with a AJAX PHP backend to handle the actual sorting in the database?     Hi, I'm using unix system() calls to gunzip and gzip files. With very large files sometimes (i.e. on the cluster compute node) these get aborted, while other times (i.e. on the login nodes) they go through. Is there some soft limit on the time a system call may take? What else could it be?

    I am having trouble getting the Bake console. I am on windows running xampp. I'm doing the IBM cakphp tutorial. Here is my directory: C:\\ xampp htdocs ibm2(a test project--orginally called cakephp) app cake vendors (etc) It says to To use Bake, cd into the /webroot/app directory and launch the Cake Console: ../cake/console/cake bake. You should be presented with a screen that looks like Figure 2. So I write in my command prompt till I am at: C:\xampp\htdocs\ibm2\app Then I type ../cake/console/cake bake but I get this error: '..' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. What am I doing wrong? I use the window's command prompt

  • Difference between User Control and Custom Control Library

    I'm working on creating a date/time user control in WPF using C# 2008. My first user control. I'm also using Matthew MacDonald's book, "Pro WPF in C# 2008". In that book he strongly recommended creating a user control using the WPF Custom Control Library project template; so I followed his suggestion. I've finished writing the code which would go into what I think of as the code-behind file. Now I'm ready to write the XAML. The only problem is, I just discovered there is no corresponding .xaml file? So, I don't get why using a WPF Custom Control Library project is better, or prefered, when writing a user control?

  • Hidden Field losing its Value on postback

    I have a ascx page where I am using a hidden field to store the value of a the drop down box as it is generated using a google address finder. My problem is that when I try to store the value directly in the hidden field : hfDdlVerifyID.Value = ddlVerifySS.SelectedValue; in the event of a button click, the value is stored but on postback is lost again.   • slashes in url variables

    Hi there I have set up my coldfusion application to have dynamic urls on the page, such as www.musicExplained/index.cfm/artist/:VariableName However my variable names will sometimes contain slashes, such as www.musicExplained/index.cfm/artist/GZA/Genius This is causing a problem, because my application presumes that the slash in the variable name represents a different section of the website, the artists albums. So the URL will fail. I am wondering if there is anyway to prevent this from happening? Do I need to use a function that replaces slashes in the variable names with another character? Thanks
