  • Website Creating Guidelines

Surprisingly, there a lot of people who directly rush themselves in creating a website without even knowing what they are going to post. So if ever you are one of these people, step on the brakes a bit and find to think about what exactly you want to see when you have that website done.

  • How to map LINQ EntitySet to List property in property setter?

    - by jlp
In my model I have these entities: public interface IOrder { string Name {get;set;} List<IProduct> OrderedProducts {get;set;} } public interface IProduct {} In partial class generated by linq-to-sql I map these properties on my entity properties: public partial class Order : IOrder { List<IProduct> OrderedProducts { get { return this.L2SQLProducts.Cast<IProduct>.ToList(); } set { this.L2SQLProducts = ??? } } } How should setter look like?

  • F# vs Haskell vs Lisp - which language to learn?

    - by empi
I've heard a lot about functional programming languages and I'm willing to learn one. I guess it will be mostly for fun, however, I hope it will improve my programming skills. I have mostly C#/.NET background, so my first choice is to learn F# (because of .NET and familiarity with Visual Studio). On the on other hand, I wonder if F# has features like Lisp macros or Haskell higher order functions. Could you compare F#, Haskell and Lisp? Which one will be the language of your choice?

  • Ruby BigDecimal sanity check (floating point newb)

    - by Andy
Hello, Hoping to get some feedback from someone more experienced here. I haven't dealt with the dreaded floating-point calculation before... Is my understanding correct that with Ruby BigDecimal types (even with varying precision and scale lengths) should calculate accurately or should I anticipate floating point shenanigans? All my values within a Rails application are BigDecimal type and I'm seeing some errors (they do have different decimal lengths), hoping it's just my methods and not my object types... Thanks!

  • How can I extract URL and link text from HTML in Perl?

    - by anon
I previously asked how to do this in Groovy. However, now I'm rewriting my app in Perl because of all the CPAN libraries. If the page contained these links: <a href="http://www.google.com">Google</a> <a href="http://www.apple.com">Apple</a> The output would be: Google, http://www.google.com Apple, http://www.apple.com What is the best way to do this in Perl?

  • NHibernate ManyToMany Relationship Cascading AllDeleteOrphan StackOverflowException

    - by Chris
I have two objects that have a ManyToMany relationship with one another through a mapping table. Though, when I try to save it, I get a stack overflow exception. The following is the code for the mappings: //EventMapping.cs HasManyToMany(x => x.Performers).Table("EventPerformer").Inverse().Cascade.AllDeleteOrphan().LazyLoad().ParentKeyColumn("EventId").ChildKeyColumn("PerformerId"); //PerformerMapping.cs HasManyToMany<Event>(x => x.Events).Table("EventPerformer").Inverse().Cascade.AllDeleteOrphan().LazyLoad().ParentKeyColumn("PerformerId").ChildKeyColumn("EventId"); When I change the performermapping.cs to Cascade.None() I get rid of the exception but then my Event Object doesn't have the performer I associate with it. //In a unit test, paraphrased event.Performers.Add(performer); //Event eventRepository.Save<Event>(event); eventResult = eventRepository.GetById<Event>(event.id); //Event eventResult.Performers[0]; //is null, should have performer in it How should I be writing this properly? Thanks

  • Best practice- How to team-split a django project while still allowing code reusal

    - by Infinity
I know this sounds kind of vague, but please let me explain- I'm starting work on a brand new project, it will have two main components: "ACME PRODUCT" (think Gmail, Meebo, etc), and "THE SITE" (help, information, marketing stuff, promotional landing pages, etc lots of marketing-induced cruft). So basically the url /acme/* will load stuff in the uber cool ajaxy application, and every other URI will load stuff in the other site. Problem: "THE SITE" component is out of my hands, and will be handled by a consultants team that will work closely with marketing, And I and my team will work solely on the ACME PRODUCT. Question: How to set up the django project in such a way that we can have: Seperate releases. (They can push new marketing pages and functionality without having to worry about the state of our code. Maybe even separate Subversion "projects") Minimize impact (on our product) of whatever flying-unicorns-hocus-pocus the other team codes into the site. Still allow some code reusal. My main concern is that the ACME product needs to be rock solid, and therefore needs to be somewhat isolated of whatever mistakes/code bloopers the consultants make in their marketing side of the site. How have you handled this? Any ideas? Thanks!

  • Telling How Much Space SQLCE Tables are Using

    - by peter
Is there a way to get a record count or a space-used value for all the tables in a SQL Server Compact database file (SQL CE 3.5.1)? I saw this question, http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2075026/sql-server-compact-count-records-get-space-used-for-all-tables-in-database So perhaps another option would be, is there an easy way to move a sqlce database to SQL Express? Would that give realistic measurement of the database table sizes?

  • Does Scheme work with Microsoft COM?

    - by Martin
I'm new to Scheme -- the functional programming language and I like it a lot for its first-class/higher-order functions. However, my data comes from a COM source with an object-oriented API. I know Scheme and COM belong to different programming paradigms, but I'm wondering if there is any interface or a way for Scheme to connect to a COM source? Thanks.

  • Memcached: booking a fetch

    - by iBobo
I would like to use getDelayed on the PHP Memcached extension but I think it's not implemented in the right way. Right now you ask for some keys and then retrieve all of them with fetch() and fetchAll(). But imagine a scenario where I need to retrieve 15 keys used in different parts of the page which I don't know in advance, but I can ask the various objects to give me the list. What I want is give the Memcached instance this list (each component would give its part) then later when I need them retrieve from the instance, but not all of them at once: each component would take the one it needs. Basically if I were to implement this I would prohibit using getDelayed alone and implement a bookGet($keys) method where you would add the keys to book (which actually calls getDelayed), and redefine get to handle these three cases: key is booked and retrieved - return the value; key is booked but not retrieved - go and force the fetch of the booked keys and return the correct value; key not booked - do a normal lookup. I want to know if this makes sense, your thoughts on the subject and if someone already implemented this or maybe PECL Memcached already works this way and actually the documentation doesn't explain it correctly.

  • Migrating Identity Providers - specifying a new users password hash.

    - by Stephen Denne
We'd like to switch Identity Provider (and Web Access Manager), and also the user directory we use, but would like to do so without users needing to change their password. We currently have the SSHA of the passwords. I'm expecting to write code to perform the migration. I don't mind how complex the code has to be, rather my concern is whether such a migration is possible at all. MS Active Directory would be our preferred user store, but I believe that it can not have new users set up in it with a particular password hash. Is that correct? What user directory stores can be populated with users already set up with a SSHA password? What Identity Provider and Access Management products work with those stores?

Hey all, I'm writing a C++ app that will communicate with another process via boost::interprocess, however I need to check if the other process is actually running first - as the other process is responsible for creating the inter-process shared memory. How do I check if the other process is running ? folks, I'm specifically required to check other processes

  • Select 2 Rows from Table when COUNT of another table

    - by Marcus
Here is the code that I currently have: SELECT `A`.* FROM `A` LEFT JOIN `B` ON `A`.`A_id` = `B`.`value_1` WHERE `B`.`value_2` IS NULL AND `B`.`userid` IS NULL ORDER BY RAND() LIMIT 2 What it currently is supposed to do is select 2 rows from A when the 2 rows A_id being selected are not in value_1 or value_2 in B. And the rows in B are specific to individual users with userid. What I need to do is make it also so that also checks if there are already N rows in B matching a A_id (either in value_1, or value_2) and userid, and if there are more than N rows, it doesn't select the A row.
