  • how to use ByteArrayOutputStream and DataOutputStream simultaneously (Java)

    - by Manuel
    Hi! I'm having quite a problem here, and I think it is because I don't understand very much how I should use the API provided by Java. I need to write an int and a byte[] into a byte[] I thought of using a DataOutputStream to solve the data writing with writeInt(int i) and write(byte[] b), and to be able to put that into a byte array, I should use ByteArrayOutputStream's method toByteArray(). I understand that this classes use the Wrapper pattern, so I had two options: DataOutputStream w = new DataOutputStream(new ByteArrayOutputStream()); or ByteArrayOutputStream w = new ByteArrayOutputStream(new DataOutputStream()); but in both cases, I "loose" a method. in the first case, I can't access the toByteArray method, and in the second, I can't access the writeInt method. How should I use this classes together?

  • ByteArrayOutputStream to PrintWriter (Java Servlet)

    - by Thomas
    Writing generated PDF (ByteArrayOutputStream) in a Servlet to PrintWriter. I am desperately looking for a way to write a generated PDF file to the response PrintWriter. Since a Filter up the hierarchy chain has already called response.getWriter() I can't get response.getOutputStream(). I do have a ByteArrayOutputStream where I generated the PDF into. Now all I need is a way to output the content of this ByteArrayOutputStream to the PrintWriter. If anyone could give me a helping hand would be very much appreciated!

  • OutputStream with ByteArrayOutputStream not writing

    - by Yonatan
    Hey again Internet ! So i'm trying to write out an object to a ByteArray, but for some reason it's not writting anything, which i see by the fact that the return value is 0, and that by the fact that reading it results in an exception. BAoutput = new ByteArrayOutputStream(); Oout = new ObjectOutputStream(BAoutput); Oout.writeObject(receiver); where receiver is an object i get through a parameter. and the exceptions are always the same: at java.io.ObjectInputStream$BlockDataInputStream.peekByte(Unknown Source) at java.io.ObjectInputStream.readObject0(Unknown Source) at java.io.ObjectInputStream.readObject(Unknown Source) Any ideas?

  • Android: OutOfMemoryError while uploading video...

    - by AP257
    Hi all, I have the same problem as described here, but I will supply a few more details. While trying to upload a video in Android, I'm reading it into memory, and if the video is large I get an OutOfMemoryError. Here's my code: // get bytestream to upload videoByteArray = getBytesFromFile(cR, fileUriString); public static byte[] getBytesFromFile(ContentResolver cR, String fileUriString) throws IOException { Uri tempuri = Uri.parse(fileUriString); InputStream is = cR.openInputStream(tempuri); byte[] b3 = readBytes(is); is.close(); return b3; } public static byte[] readBytes(InputStream inputStream) throws IOException { ByteArrayOutputStream byteBuffer = new ByteArrayOutputStream(); // this is storage overwritten on each iteration with bytes int bufferSize = 1024; byte[] buffer = new byte[bufferSize]; int len = 0; while ((len = inputStream.read(buffer)) != -1) { byteBuffer.write(buffer, 0, len); } return byteBuffer.toByteArray(); } And here's the traceback (the error is thrown on the byteBuffer.write(buffer, 0, len) line): 04-08 11:56:20.456: ERROR/dalvikvm-heap(6088): Out of memory on a 16775184-byte allocation. 04-08 11:56:20.456: INFO/dalvikvm(6088): "IntentService[UploadService]" prio=5 tid=17 RUNNABLE 04-08 11:56:20.456: INFO/dalvikvm(6088): | group="main" sCount=0 dsCount=0 s=N obj=0x449a3cf0 self=0x38d410 04-08 11:56:20.456: INFO/dalvikvm(6088): | sysTid=6119 nice=0 sched=0/0 cgrp=default handle=4010416 04-08 11:56:20.456: INFO/dalvikvm(6088): at java.io.ByteArrayOutputStream.expand(ByteArrayOutputStream.java:~93) 04-08 11:56:20.456: INFO/dalvikvm(6088): at java.io.ByteArrayOutputStream.write(ByteArrayOutputStream.java:218) 04-08 11:56:20.456: INFO/dalvikvm(6088): at com.android.election2010.UploadService.readBytes(UploadService.java:199) 04-08 11:56:20.456: INFO/dalvikvm(6088): at com.android.election2010.UploadService.getBytesFromFile(UploadService.java:182) 04-08 11:56:20.456: INFO/dalvikvm(6088): at com.android.election2010.UploadService.doUploadinBackground(UploadService.java:118) 04-08 11:56:20.456: INFO/dalvikvm(6088): at com.android.election2010.UploadService.onHandleIntent(UploadService.java:85) 04-08 11:56:20.456: INFO/dalvikvm(6088): at android.app.IntentService$ServiceHandler.handleMessage(IntentService.java:30) 04-08 11:56:20.456: INFO/dalvikvm(6088): at android.os.Handler.dispatchMessage(Handler.java:99) 04-08 11:56:20.456: INFO/dalvikvm(6088): at android.os.Looper.loop(Looper.java:123) 04-08 11:56:20.456: INFO/dalvikvm(6088): at android.os.HandlerThread.run(HandlerThread.java:60) 04-08 11:56:20.467: WARN/dalvikvm(6088): threadid=17: thread exiting with uncaught exception (group=0x4001b180) 04-08 11:56:20.467: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(6088): Uncaught handler: thread IntentService[UploadService] exiting due to uncaught exception 04-08 11:56:20.467: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(6088): java.lang.OutOfMemoryError 04-08 11:56:20.467: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(6088): at java.io.ByteArrayOutputStream.expand(ByteArrayOutputStream.java:93) 04-08 11:56:20.467: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(6088): at java.io.ByteArrayOutputStream.write(ByteArrayOutputStream.java:218) 04-08 11:56:20.467: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(6088): at com.android.election2010.UploadService.readBytes(UploadService.java:199) 04-08 11:56:20.467: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(6088): at com.android.election2010.UploadService.getBytesFromFile(UploadService.java:182) 04-08 11:56:20.467: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(6088): at com.android.election2010.UploadService.doUploadinBackground(UploadService.java:118) 04-08 11:56:20.467: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(6088): at com.android.election2010.UploadService.onHandleIntent(UploadService.java:85) 04-08 11:56:20.467: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(6088): at android.app.IntentService$ServiceHandler.handleMessage(IntentService.java:30) 04-08 11:56:20.467: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(6088): at android.os.Handler.dispatchMessage(Handler.java:99) 04-08 11:56:20.467: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(6088): at android.os.Looper.loop(Looper.java:123) 04-08 11:56:20.467: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(6088): at android.os.HandlerThread.run(HandlerThread.java:60) 04-08 11:56:20.496: INFO/Process(4657): Sending signal. Or can I load the bytestream into memory in chunks, and glue it together in the Android code? If anyone could give me a clue as to the best approach, I would be very grateful.

  • Java deadlock problem....

    - by markovuksanovic
    I am using java sockets for communication. On the client side I have some processing and at this point I send an object to the cient. The code is as follows: while (true) { try { Socket server = new Socket("localhost", 3000); OutputStream os = server.getOutputStream(); InputStream is = server.getInputStream(); CommMessage commMessage = new CommMessageImpl(); ByteArrayOutputStream bos = new ByteArrayOutputStream(); ObjectOutputStream oos = new ObjectOutputStream(bos); oos.writeObject(commMessage); os.write(bos.toByteArray()); os.flush(); byte[] buff = new byte[512]; int bytesRead = 0; ByteArrayOutputStream receivedObject = new ByteArrayOutputStream(); while ((bytesRead = is.read(buff)) > -1) { receivedObject.write(buff, 0, bytesRead); System.out.println(receivedObject); } os.close(); Thread.sleep(10000); } catch (IOException e) { } catch (InterruptedException e) { } } Next on the server side I have the following code to read the object and write the response (Which is just an echo message) public void startServer() { Socket client = null; try { server = new ServerSocket(3000); logger.log(Level.INFO, "Waiting for connections."); client = server.accept(); logger.log(Level.INFO, "Accepted a connection from: " + client.getInetAddress()); os = new ObjectOutputStream(client.getOutputStream()); is = new ObjectInputStream(client.getInputStream()); // Read contents of the stream and store it into a byte array. byte[] buff = new byte[512]; int bytesRead = 0; ByteArrayOutputStream receivedObject = new ByteArrayOutputStream(); while ((bytesRead = is.read(buff)) > -1) { receivedObject.write(buff, 0, bytesRead); } // Check if received stream is CommMessage or not contents. CommMessage commMessage = getCommMessage(receivedObject); if (commMessage != null) { commMessage.setSessionState(this.sessionManager.getState().getState()); ByteArrayOutputStream bos = new ByteArrayOutputStream(); ObjectOutputStream oos = new ObjectOutputStream(bos); oos.writeObject(commMessage); os.write(bos.toByteArray()); System.out.println(commMessage.getCommMessageType()); } else { processData(receivedObject, this.sessionManager); } os.flush(); } catch (IOException e) { } finally { try { is.close(); os.close(); client.close(); server.close(); } catch (IOException e) { } } } The above code works ok if I do not try to read data on the client side (If i exclude the code related to reading). But if I have that code, for some reason, I get some kind of deadlock when accessing input streams. Any ideas what I might have done wrong? Thanks in advance.

  • Line by line image swing

    - by user1046017
    I want to show an image as it is downloading, I have the URL, and I am trying to get the image parts like this: InputStream openStream = url.openStream(); DataInputStream dis = new DataInputStream(new BufferedInputStream(openStream)); ByteArrayOutputStream os = new ByteArrayOutputStream(); while ((s = dis.read(b)) != -1) { os.write(b , 0, s); support.firePropertyChange("stream", null, os); } This way, any listener get the stream and creates an image, this way: if("stream".equals(evt.getPropertyName())){ try { ByteArrayOutputStream stream = (ByteArrayOutputStream) evt.getNewValue(); byte[] byteArray = stream.toByteArray(); stream.flush(); Image createImage = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().createImage(byteArray); this.getContentPane().add(new JLabel(new ImageIcon(createImage))); } catch (IOException ex) { Logger.getLogger(ImageTest.class.getName()).log(Level.SEVERE, null, ex); } } However, I am getting a "Premature end of JPEG file sun.awt.image.ImageFormatException: JPEG datastream contains no image" error, the image is a JPG image format, is there any library or method known to make something similar?

  • GZIP Java vs .NET

    - by Jim Jones
    Using the following Java code to compress/decompress bytes[] to/from GZIP. First text bytes to gzip bytes: public static byte[] fromByteToGByte(byte[] bytes) { ByteArrayOutputStream baos = null; try { ByteArrayInputStream bais = new ByteArrayInputStream(bytes); baos = new ByteArrayOutputStream(); GZIPOutputStream gzos = new GZIPOutputStream(baos); byte[] buffer = new byte[1024]; int len; while((len = bais.read(buffer)) >= 0) { gzos.write(buffer, 0, len); } gzos.close(); baos.close(); } catch (IOException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } return(baos.toByteArray()); } Then the method that goes the other way compressed bytes to uncompressed bytes: public static byte[] fromGByteToByte(byte[] gbytes) { ByteArrayOutputStream baos = null; ByteArrayInputStream bais = new ByteArrayInputStream(gbytes); try { baos = new ByteArrayOutputStream(); GZIPInputStream gzis = new GZIPInputStream(bais); byte[] bytes = new byte[1024]; int len; while((len = gzis.read(bytes)) > 0) { baos.write(bytes, 0, len); } } catch (IOException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } return(baos.toByteArray()); } Think there is any effect since I'm not writing out to a gzip file? Also I noticed that in the standard C# function that BitConverter reads the first four bytes and then the MemoryStream Write function is called with a start point of 4 and a length of input buffer length - 4. So is that effect the validity of the header? Jim

  • How to ensure I get the picture is complete? (in java)

    - by Zenofo
    i using below code to get a picture from URL: URL url=new URL("http://www.google.com/images/logos/ps_logo2.png"); InputStream in=url.openStream(); ByteArrayOutputStream tmpOut = new ByteArrayOutputStream(); byte[] buf = new byte[512]; int len; while (true) { len = in.read(buf); if (len == -1) { break; } tmpOut.write(buf, 0, len); } tmpOut.close(); byte[] picture=tmpOut.toByteArray(); System.out.println(picture.length); this code is okay,but my internet connect is very very bad, so ,I maybe get a broken picture like this: How can I ensure the picture file is complete ? I think you can add this code to try and test this: if (len == -1) { change to if (len == -1 || (int)(Math.random()*100)==1 ) { full test code: URL url=new URL("http://www.google.com/images/logos/ps_logo2.png"); InputStream in=url.openStream(); ByteArrayOutputStream tmpOut = new ByteArrayOutputStream(); byte[] buf = new byte[512]; int len; while (true) { len = in.read(buf); if (len == -1 || (int)(Math.random()*100)==1 ) { break; } tmpOut.write(buf, 0, len); } tmpOut.close(); byte[] picture =tmpOut.toByteArray(); System.out.println(picture.length); thanks for help :)

  • Blob object not working properly even though the class is seralized

    - by GustlyWind
    I have class which is seralized and does convert a very large amount of data object to blob to save it to database.In the same class there is decode method to convert blob to the actual object.Following is the code for encode and decode of the object. private byte[] encode(ScheduledReport schedSTDReport) { byte[] bytes = null; try { ByteArrayOutputStream bos = new ByteArrayOutputStream(); ObjectOutputStream oos = new ObjectOutputStream(bos); oos.writeObject(schedSTDReport); oos.flush(); oos.close(); bos.close(); //byte [] data = bos.toByteArray(); //ByteArrayOutputStream baos = new ByteArrayOutputStream(); //GZIPOutputStream out = new GZIPOutputStream(baos); //XMLEncoder encoder = new XMLEncoder(out); //encoder.writeObject(schedSTDReport); //encoder.close(); bytes = bos.toByteArray(); //GZIPOutputStream out = new GZIPOutputStream(bos); //out.write(bytes); //bytes = bos.toByteArray(); } catch (Exception e) { _log.error("Exception caught while encoding/zipping Scheduled STDReport", e); } decode(bytes); return bytes; } /* * Decode the report definition blob back to the * ScheduledReport object. */ private ScheduledReport decode(byte[] bytes) { ByteArrayInputStream bais = new ByteArrayInputStream(bytes); ScheduledReport sSTDR = null; try { ObjectInputStream ois = new ObjectInputStream(bais); //GZIPInputStream in = new GZIPInputStream(bais); //XMLDecoder decoder = new XMLDecoder(in); sSTDR = (ScheduledReport)ois.readObject();//decoder.readObject(); //decoder.close(); } catch (Exception e) { _log.error("IOException caught while decoding/unzipping Scheduled STDReport", e); } return sSTDR; } The problem here is whenver I change something else in this class means any other method,a new class version is created and so the new version the class is unable to decode the originally encoded blob object. The object which I am passing for encode is also seralized object but this problem exists. Any ideas thanks

  • Using Coherence API to get POF bytes

    - by Bruno.Borges
    Someone raised the question on how to use the Coherence API to get the bytes of an object in POF (Portable Object Format) programatically. So I came up with this small code that shows the very cool API simple usage :-)   SimplePofContext spc = new SimplePofContext();    spc.registerUserType(0, User.class, new UserSerializer());    // consider UserSerializer as an implementation of PofSerializer            User u = new User();    u.setId(21);    u.setName("Some Name");    u.setEmail("[email protected]");            ByteArrayOutputStream baos = new ByteArrayOutputStream();    DataOutput dataOutput = new DataOutputStream(baos);    BufferOutput bufferOutput = new WrapperBufferOutput(dataOutput);    spc.serialize(bufferOutput, u);            byte[] byteArray = baos.toByteArray();    System.out.println(Arrays.toString(byteArray));  Easy, isn't?

  • PDF export printing in Internet Explorer [closed]

    - by user619804
    protected static byte[] exportReportToPdf(JasperPrint jasperPrint) throws JRException { JRPdfExporter exporter = new JRPdfExporter(); ByteArrayOutputStream baos = new ByteArrayOutputStream(); exporter.setParameter(JRExporterParameter.JASPER_PRINT, jasperPrint); exporter.setParameter(JRExporterParameter.OUTPUT_STREAM, baos); exporter.setParameter(JRPdfExporterParameter.PDF_JAVASCRIPT, "this.print({bUI: true,bSilent: false,bShrinkToFit: true});"); exporter.exportReport(); return baos.toByteArray(); } We are using code like this to export a PDF document from a Jasper application. The line exporter.setParameter(JRPdfExporterParameter.PDF_JAVASCRIPT, "this.print({bUI: true,bSilent: false,bShrinkToFit: true});"); adds JavaScript to send the PDF document directly to the printer. The expected behavior is that a print dialog will come up with a preview of the PDF document. This works fine most of the time - except I am having problems about one out of every 5-6 times in Internet Explorer 8 and Firefox. What happens is - the print preview dialog with the PDF document does not appear or it appears with a blank document in the preview window. -I've tried a number of different JavaScripts (different params to this.print() via exporter.setParameter -I've tried setting different response headers such as response.setContentType("application/pdf"); response.setHeader("Content-disposition","inline; filename=\"" + reportName + "\""); response.setContentLength(baos.size()); these did not seem to help This seems to be an IE and FF issue. Has anyone ever dealt with this problem? I need to get it to work across all browsers 100% of the time. Perhaps a different approach to accomplish the goal of sending the PDF document export directly to the printer? or a third party library that will work across browsers?

  • Servlet response wrapper has encoding problem

    - by John O
    A servlet response wrapper is being used in a Servlet Filter. The idea is that the response is manipulated, with a 'nonce' value being injected into forms, as part of defence against CSRF attacks. The web app is using UTF-8 everywhere. When the Servlet Filter is absent, no problems. When the filter is added, encoding issues occur. (It seems as if the response is reverting to 8859-1.) The guts of the code : final class CsrfResponseWrapper extends AbstractResponseWrapper { ... byte[] modifyResponse(byte[] aInputResponse){ ... String originalInput = new String(aInputResponse, encoding); String modifiedResult = addHiddenParamToPostedForms(originalInput); result = modifiedResult.getBytes(encoding); ... } ... } As I understand it, the transition between byte-land and String-land should specify an encoding. That is done here, as you can see, in two places. The value of the 'encoding' variable is 'UTF-8'; the alteration of the String itself is standard string manipulation (with a regex), and never specifies an encoding (addHiddenParamToPostedForms). Where am I in error about the encoding? EDIT: Here is the base class (sorry it's rather long): package hirondelle.web4j.security; import javax.servlet.ServletOutputStream; import javax.servlet.ServletResponse; import javax.servlet.http.HttpServletResponse; import javax.servlet.http.HttpServletResponseWrapper; import java.io.ByteArrayOutputStream; import java.io.IOException; import java.io.PrintWriter; /** Abstract Base Class for altering response content. • Proper usage of JTidy to purify HTML

    - by Raj
    Hello, I am trying to use JTidy (jtidy-r938.jar) to sanitize an input HTML string, but I seem to have problems getting the default settings right. Often strings such as "hello world" end up as "helloworld" after tidying. I wanted to show what I'm doing here, and any pointers would be really appreciated: Assume that rawHtml is the String containing the input (real world) HTML. This is what I'm doing: InputStream is = new ByteArrayInputStream(rawHtml.getBytes("UTF-8")); Tidy tidy = new Tidy(); tidy.setQuiet(true); tidy.setShowWarnings(false); tidy.setXHTML(true); ByteArrayOutputStream baos = new ByteArrayOutputStream(); tidy.parseDOM(is, baos); String pure = baos.toString(); First off, does anything look fundamentally wrong with the above code? I seem to be getting weird results with this. Thanks in advance!

  • Problem updating BLOB with Hibernate?

    - by JohnSmith
    hi, i am having problem updating a blob with hibernate. (i am using Hiberante 3.3.1-GA) my model have these getters/setters for hibernate, i.e. internally i deal with byte[] so any getter/setter convert the byte[] to blog. I can create an initial object without problem, but if I try to change the content of the blob, the database column is not updated. I do not get any error message, everything looks fine, except that the database is not updated. /** do not use, for hibernate only */ public Blob getLogoBinaryBlob() { if(logoBinary == null){ return null; } return Hibernate.createBlob(logoBinary); } /** do not use, for hibernate only */ public void setLogoBinaryBlob(Blob logoBinaryBlob) { ByteArrayOutputStream baos = new ByteArrayOutputStream(); try { logoBinary = toByteArrayImpl(logoBinaryBlob, baos); } catch (Exception e) { } } my hibernate mapping for the blob looks like <property name="logoBinaryBlob" column="LOGO_BINARY" type="blob" />

The code here shows the issue: //Marshaller configuration ByteArrayOutputStream baos = new ByteArrayOutputStream(); OutputStreamWriter os = new OutputStreamWriter(baos, UTF_8); Marshaller marshaller = new Marshaller(os); marshaller.setSuppressXSIType(true); //Mappings configuration Mapping map = new Mapping(); map.loadMapping(MarshallingService.class.getResource(MAPPINGS_PATH)); marshaller.setMapping(map); //Example //BEFORE MARSHALLING: This prints correctly the UTF-8 Chars object.getName() ; marshaller.marshal(object); //AFTER MARSHALLING: This returns the characters like \435\235\654\345 return baos.toString(UTF_8);

  • Parsing Json Feeds with google Gson

    - by mnml
    I would like to know how to parse a json feed by items, eg. url / title / description for each item. I have had a look to the doc / api but, it didn't help me. This is what I got so far import com.google.gson.Gson; import com.google.gson.JsonObject; public class ImportSources extends Job { public void doJob() throws IOException { String json = stringOfUrl("http://feed.test/all.json"); JsonObject jobj = new Gson().fromJson(json, JsonObject.class); Logger.info(jobj.get("responseData").toString()); } public static String stringOfUrl(String addr) throws IOException { ByteArrayOutputStream output = new ByteArrayOutputStream(); URL url = new URL(addr); IOUtils.copy(url.openStream(), output); return output.toString(); } }

  • OutOfMemoryError trying to upload to Blobstore locally

    Hi all, I am trying to set up a basic file upload to blobstore, but I get this OutOfMemoryError: WARNING: Error for /_ah/upload/ aghvbWdkcmVzc3IcCxIVX19CbG9iVXBsb2FkU2Vzc2lvbl9fGMACDA java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space at java.util.Arrays.copyOf(Arrays.java:2786) at java.io.ByteArrayOutputStream.write(ByteArrayOutputStream.java:71) at javax.mail.internet.MimeMultipart.readTillFirstBoundary(MimeMultipart.java: 316) at javax.mail.internet.MimeMultipart.parse(MimeMultipart.java:186) at javax.mail.internet.MimeMultipart.getCount(MimeMultipart.java:109) at com.google.appengine.api.blobstore.dev.UploadBlobServlet.handleUpload(UploadBlobServlet.java: 135) at com.google.appengine.api.blobstore.dev.UploadBlobServlet.access $000(UploadBlobServlet.java:72) at com.google.appengine.api.blobstore.dev.UploadBlobServlet $1.run(UploadBlobServlet.java:100) at java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(Native Method) at com.google.appengine.api.blobstore.dev.UploadBlobServlet.doPost(UploadBlobServlet.java: 98) at javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet.service(HttpServlet.java:713) at javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet.service(HttpServlet.java:806) at org.mortbay.jetty.servlet.ServletHolder.handle(ServletHolder.java: 511); I used the Memory Analyzer on Eclipse and it said that the memory leak suspect is QueuedThreadPool. I found this information about a memory leak bug: http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/JETTY-1188 Has anyone else had this issue? Thanks, Jean

  • How to force javax xslt transformer to encode entities in utf-8?

    - by calavera.info
    I'm working on filter that should transform an output with some stylesheet. Important sections of code looks like this: PrintWriter out = response.getWriter(); ... StringReader sr = new StringReader(content); Source xmlSource = new StreamSource(sr, requestSystemId); transformer.setOutputProperty(OutputKeys.ENCODING, "UTF-8"); transformer.setParameter("encoding", "UTF-8"); //same result when using ByteArrayOutputStream xo = new java.io.ByteArrayOutputStream(); StringWriter xo = new StringWriter(); StreamResult result = new StreamResult(xo); transformer.transform(xmlSource, result); out.write(xo.toString()); The problem is that national characters are encoded as html entities and not by using UTF. Is there any way to force transformer to use UTF-8 instead of entities?

  • Url shortening algorithm

    - by Bozho
    Now, this is not strictly about URL shortening, but my purpose is such anyway, so let's view it like that. Of course the steps to URL shortening are: Take the full URL Generate a unique short string to be the key for the URL Store the URL and the key in a database (a key-value store would be a perfect match here) Now, about the 2nd point. Here's what I've come up with: ByteArrayOutputStream baos = new ByteArrayOutputStream(); DataOutputStream dos = new DataOutputStream(baos); UUID uuid = UUID.randomUUID(); dos.writeLong(uuid.getMostSignificantBits()); String encoded = new String(Base64.encodeBase64(baos.toByteArray()), "ISO-8859-1"); String shortUrl = StringUtils.left(6); // returns the leftmost 6 characters // check if exists in database, repeat until it does not I wonder if this is good enough. Is it?
