  • Using Javascript to expand DIVs and go to anchor text

    - by radiantjoy
    I apologize that this question is so similar to "How can you check for a #hash in a URL using JavaScript?" but would appreciate your help with the following. I would like to use Javascript to display text that is a) identified by an anchor. b) contained within 2 collapsed DIVs....ONLY WHEN the anchor is in the URL. Otherwise, the page should display with all DIVs collapsed. Something like this: if (theHashIsABC) { Expand 2 DIVs on the page and go to the anchor; } else { just display the page; } Specifics: 1. Using IE7 2. DIVs ids to be expanded '8589' and '6212' out of several DIVs on the page 3. Anchor name is anchorABC I have been told that it is not possible to expand some DIVs in IE7 so I am thinking I need to expand all DIVs on the page. [ I can expand just the 2 with a link within the page: <a class="jumplink" href="javascript:toggleBlock('6212');toggleBlock('8589')";link to expand DIVs</a> ] This is what I have so far (in head section)... if(window.location.hash = "anchorABC") { //this works with a button on the page that expand all divs function showAll(pstrClass) { var aElts = document.getElementsByTagName('div'); setDisplay(pstrClass, aElts, 'show', 'Block'); aElts = document.getElementsByTagName('span'); setDisplay(pstrClass, aElts, 'show', 'Inline'); //would also like the page to move to the anchor } else { // just display the page } In advance, thank you for your time.

  • Counting divs for pagination in Jquery

    - by Craig Ward
    I want to create a nice pagination in Jquery for a number of divs I have. EG: <div class="container"> <div id="one">content</div> <div id="two">content</div> <div id="three">content</div> <div id="four">content</div> </div> The number will not always be the same so I need to count the divs, and display a pagination like the one below. 1|2|3|4 Clicking on the page number would display the relevant div. I know how to show and hide elements using Jquery and css and have figured out I can count the divs using var numPages = $('.container').size(); but I can't work out how I can display the pagination. Any pointers?

  • Positioning divs

    - by Thomas
    Hi all, I'm working with the Jquery accordion. So my code goes like this: <h3><a href="#">Test </a></h3> <div class="accordion" style="background-color:yellow;"> <div class="test_1"> my first dynamic content div </div> <div class="test_2"> my second dynamic content div </div> </div> So you see the H3 that's the 'accordian', if i click on that the div accordion opens with inside 2 seperate divs. That all works but the positioning of my 2 divs inside the accordion div fails. I should like to get them UNDER eachother, but both divs got generated dynamically what means that i don't know the size of the first div (test_1) so i can't position on pixels. I already tried with some br tags etc but nothing seems to work. Is there a way to do this in css maybe with float or something or should it be done inside the html ? ANy other ideas? Regards, T

  • fade in all divs of a page. once the content of the divs is loaded

    - by daniel
    I want all the divs on my page to fade in after the content is loaded. The code below loads in all imgs in the #div container. Which is great. but it does not load in images that are used as div background images loaded through the css file. So i think the most effective way is to create a piece of code that fades in all the divs on the page after the content ie: images and text has loaded. Is there A way to do this. Cheers. $(document).ready(function() { $('#container img').fadeIn(4000); // and tell pending images to do the same, once they've finished loading: $('#container img').load(function () { $(this).fadeIn(4000); }); });

  • Unwanted space between divs - HTML, CSS

    - by Nikalas Haufe
    Hi, hows it going, I have searched through the forums and good old google and have found many answers but non seem to work on my page. Anyway here is the question, I have 2 divs that are positioned side by side, and I wish to get rid of the whitespace www.blisshair.com.au/test.html :(http://www.blisshair.com.au/test.html) I want to the black from the "link 1" to join to the main content in the center, Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thank you. EDIT: Tried opening in Internet explorer 8 and it seems top exactly how I want it, besides the 2 bottom divs not lining up, Is it possible to do this with an UL and SPAN tags ? I am aiming for a tabbed look, for example, when you click on link 2, the background around link 2 goes black and the black color "flows" into the main content page, sorry if this doesnt make sense, early AM here :D Thanks again

  • how should I order my divs?

    - by aslum
    Here's the basic layout of a page I'm working on: What would be the best/easiest way to order the divs? C may or may not be visible (it's a news alert that only displays when there is news). A = Header, B = Menu, E&F = standard content columns, D = latest blog post. I'm thinking ABCEFD might make the most sense, but I could also see ABCDEF. Either of those should be fairly easy to do right using floats... is there a better way? Maybe put CEF inside a "middle column" div?

  • Removing DIVs in a jquery dialog

    - by Macinville
    I have a dialog window that uses a URL for its contents { function(){jQuery.ajax({'success':function(html) { jQuery('#menu_dialog').html(html); $('#menu_dialog').dialog('open'); $('#header').hide(); },'url':'/testing/index.php/menu','cache':false});return false;}; } What happens is that it was displaying the whole page, including the header, the footer,navigation menu,etc. What I want is for the dialog to only display the content inside the <content> tag. How can I remove the unnecessary divs in the dialog window?

  • CSS - Overlapping divs

    - by Jens Törnell
    I have no code to start with. I want to add 2 divs overlapping on each other and then use the new CSS3 Rotate function. The effect I want to create is shown on this page Requirements I don't want to use images I don't mind using CSS3 It should be easy to align the whole thing in the center (which makes it harder to use position: absolute;). It's going to be content below the boxed content (which makes it harder to use position: absolute;). If it's possible without too much position: absolute; it's better. I prefer table free solutions. Have fun!

  • Using javascript, show a certain amount of divs based on an answer

    - by Adam
    I'm building a form that first asks if you have 'foo'. If the answer is 'Yes', a div appears and asks 'How many foo do you have'? Based on the quantity answered, I'd like to show only that many divs. Thus if the user answers 1, only the first div will show. If they answer three, the first three will show. I have it set so that if the user answers no, the question of the amount remains hidden, but if they answer yes, they would be prompted for the quantity. This is what I've got so far... <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function(){ $(window).load(function() { $('#amt_of_foo,.foo_panels').hide(); }); $('#yes_foo').click(function() { $('#amt_of_foo').show(); }); $('#no_foo').click(function() { $('.foo_panels,#amt_of_foo').hide(); }); }); </script> </head> <body> <ul> <li> <div class="panel section_panel"> <h2>Questions About Your Foo</h2> <span>Do you have foo?:</span> <input type="radio" name="foo" id="no_foo" /> No <br /> <input type="radio" name="foo" id="yes_foo" /> Yes:</span></span> <span id="amt_of_foo"> <span>How many foo do you have?:</span> <span><input id="qty_of_foo" type="text" size="5" /> </span> </span> </div> </li> <!--answered yes to foo, and entered amount--> <div class="foo_panels"> <li> <li> <div class="panel foo_1"> <h1>First foo's information</h1> <span>Foo name:&nbsp;<input type="text" size="20" /></span> </div> </li> <li> <div class="panel foo_2"> <h1>Second foo's information</h1> <span>Foo name:&nbsp;<input type="text" size="20" /></span> </div> </li> <li> <div class="panel foo_3"> <h1>Third foo's information</h1> <span>Foo name:&nbsp;<input type="text" size="20" /></span> </div> </li> </div> <!--answered no to foo--> <li> <div class="panel"> <h1>Next Question, if no foo</h1> </div> </li> </ul> The ul is used for a jQuery 'slider' plugin. the 'panel' class is used for global css.

  • DIVS over flash movies in Internet Explorer

    - by drew
    The age old question... why the hell doesn't a div positioned over a flash object stay on top with z-index. I have found the answer in the past, but it's been so long, I can't seem to get it. My flash movie is in a div floating left: <div id="flash"> <object width="614" height="289"> <param name="movie" value="images/75.swf"> <param name="wmode" value="transparent"> <embed src="images/75.swf" width="614" height="289" wmode"transparent"> </embed> </object> </div> My css for the div that needs to be on top is: .menu ul li:hover ul li a:hover { background:#5a3f2d; color:#FFF; z-index: 9999; I cannot get it to show above the flash movie in ie6 or ie8. I know this is old school but I'm frustrated! Does my nav div need to have an absolute position? Is that why it doesn't work? Example is here. Hover over the first link on the right: "CUSTOMER SERVICE" Thanks all :)

  • Simple 2 column CSS layout with nested divs

    - by Dan
    Hello, I have good familiarity with CSS but for some reason I am unable to achieve the result I want in this case. Here is the link to my test site http://danberinger.com/test.html Keep in mind that I want a 2 column layout and that the background wrapper color (gray) is not showing. Instead the body background color image is being put in place of where the wrapper background should be. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • Keeping floated divs inline

    - by Elliott
    I'm having trouble getting my layout working correctly, I have a main div and a sidebar div these are both float: left if the screen size is resized or if its viewed on screen smaller that what I have designed on (1920x1080) then the sidebar div drops below the main content. I tried placing a wrapper around each div, but this has no effect. <div id="header"> [Header] </div> <div id="content"> [Content] </div> <div id="sideBar"> [SideBar] </div> <div id="footer"> [Footer] </div> body { width: 100%; color: #000000; background-color: #000000; margin: 0; padding: 0; } #header { width: 100%; height: 110px; background-color: #336699; color: #FFFFFF; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; } #content { float: left; margin-left: 50px; width: 70%; height: 700px; margin-top: 40px; padding: 30px; background-color: #FFFFFF; margin-bottom: 40px; } #sideBar { float: left; margin-left: 50px; width: 15%; height: 400px; margin-top: 40px; padding: 30px; background-color: #FFFFFF; } #footer { width: 100%; height: 80px; background-color: #174555; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; color: #ffffff; clear: both; } Basicly both div's should resize until a certain size is reached, then scrolling should be enabled. I'm pretty sure I have done something simple wrong but i'm not much of a design person. Example can be shown here : Link Thanks for any advice :)

  • How can I show a div, then hide the other divs when a link is clicked?

    - by Abriel
    I am right now trying to hide six divs while showing only one of the divs. I've tried JavaScript and in jQuery, but nothing seems to work! Click here to get to the website. I would like to know if it has to do with my CSS, jQuery, or the HTML. Or is there an easier way of doing this? HTML: <div id="resourceLinks"> <a href="#" name="resource" id="resource1">General&nbsp;Information</a><br /> <a href="#" name="resource" id="resource2">Automatic&nbsp;401(k)</a><br /> <a href="#" name="resource" id="resource3">Consumer&nbsp;Fraud</a><br /> <a href="#" name="resource" id="resource4">Direct&nbsp;Deposit</a><br /> <a href="#" name="resource" id="resource5">Diversity</a><br /> <a href="#" name="resource" id="resource6">Women</a><br /> <a href="#" name="resource" id="resource7">Young&nbsp;Adults&nbsp;(20s&nbsp;-&nbsp;40s)</a> </div> <div id="resource1></div> <div id="resource2></div> <div id="resource3></div> <div id="resource4></div> <div id="resource5></div> <div id="resource6></div> <div id="resource7></div> CSS: #resource1, #resource2, #resource3, #resource4, #resource5, #resource6, #resource7 { position: absolute; margin-left: 400px; margin-top: -10px; width: 300px; padding-bottom: 120px; } #resourceLinks { position: fixed; margin-left: -450px; z-index: 3; margin-top: 180px; font-size: 16px; } jQuery: $(document).ready(function(){ $('#resourceLinks a').click(function (selected) { var getName = $(this).attr("id"); var projectImages = $(this).attr("name"); $(function() { $(".resource").hide().removeClass("current"); $("#" + projectImages ).show("normal").addClass("current"); }); }); });

  • I always get stuck here... Divs not behaving properly (alignment issues)

    - by user345501
    Hi, I don't know why, after encountering this problem dozens of times, the answer always seems different and I can't seem to work my way through the problem-solving process, but here I am again with misaligned divs. I've got 3rows encasing columns. each row is to have (at least) 3 columns (and probably some nested divs down the line, but I'm not even there yet). I'm trying to make a fluid chunk in the center ultimately, with pretty corners. However, my top row is already showing signs of misbehaving. .O Please help with my silly questions! Cheers and thanks in advance! <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> <title>Untitled Document</title> </head> <style type="text/css"> #wrap { margin:auto; width:80%; height:75%; border: solid #066 1px;} #row1 { width:100%; height:10%; background:#F20; } #r1c1 { float:left; width:05%;} #r1c2 { float:left; width:80%} #r1c3 { clear:both; width:05%; } #row2 { float:none; width:100%; background:#0C6; } #r2c1 {} #r2c2 {} #r2c3 {} #row3 { width:100%; height:15%; background:#00F; clear:both; } #r3c1 {} #r3c2 {} #r3c3 {} </style> <body> <div id="wrap"> <div id="row1"> <div id="r1c1">LEFT</div> <div id="r1c2">CENT</div> <div id="r1c3">RIGHT</div> </div> <div id="row2"> MIDDLE </div> <div id="row3"> BOTTOM </div> </div> </body> </html>

  • css: zoooming-out inside the browser moves rightmost floated div below other divs

    - by John Sonderson
    I am seeing something strange in both firefox and chrome when I increase the zoom level inside these browsers, although I see nothing wrong with my CSS... I am hoping someone on this group will be able to help. Here is the whole story: I have a right-floated top-level div containing three right-floated right. The three inner divs have all box-model measurements in pixels which add up to the width of the enclosing container. Everything looks fine when the browser size is 100%, but when I start making the browser smaller with CTRL+scrollwheel or CTRL+minus the rightmost margin shrinks down too fast and eventually becomes zero, forcing my rightmost floated inner div to fall down below the other two! I can't make sense out of this, almost seems like some integer division is being performed incorrectly in the browser code, but alas firefox and chrome both display the same result. Here is the example (just zoom out with CTRL-minus to see what I mean): Click Here to View What I Mean on Example Site Just to narrow things down a bit, the tags of interest are the following: div#mainContent div#contentLeft div#contentCenter div#contentRight I've searched stackoverflow for an answer and found the following posts which seem related to my question but was not able to apply them to the problem I am experiencing: http:// stackoverflow.com/questions/6955313/div-moves-incorrectly-on-browser-resize http:// stackoverflow.com/questions/18246882/divs-move-when-resizing-page http:// stackoverflow.com/questions/17637231/moving-an-image-when-browser-resizes http:// stackoverflow.com/questions/5316380/how-to-stop-divs-moving-when-the-browser-is-resized I've duplicated the html and css code below for your convenience: Here is the HTML: <!doctype html> <html> <head> <meta charset="utf-8"> <title>Pinco</title> <link href="css/style.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css"> </head> <body> <div id="wrapper"> <header> <div class="logo"> <a href="http://pinco.com"> <img class="logo" src="images/PincoLogo5.png" alt="Pinco" /> </a> </div> <div class="titolo"> <h1>Benvenuti!</h1> <h2>Siete arrivati al sito pinco.</h2> </div> <nav> <ul class="menu"> <li><a href="#">Menù Qui</a></li> <li><a href="#">Menù Quo</a></li> <li><a href="#">Menù Qua</a></li> </ul> </nav> </header> <div id="mainContent"> <div id="contentLeft"> <section> <article> <p> Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. • Using table-styled divs instead of tables

    - by mister martin
    I was referred here from stackoverflow as my question was apparently too broad. I'm working on a template, and I know using CSS is preferred over HTML tables for positioning... But, is it acceptable to get the best of both worlds and use table-like styles on my divs? For example: display: table; This not only helps solve the sticky footer problem, but it also avoids the pains associated with using floats. Somehow it feels dirty, but I can't logically explain why because it works without any "tricks" or ugly hacks, which is how it should be, right? Is this technically incorrect, or does it ultimately boil down to just a matter of opinion? ...Thoughts?

  • set equal height on multiple divs

    - by Greenie
    I need to set equal height on a series of divs inside another div wrapper. The problem is that I dont want the same height on all of them. The page kind of have 3 columns and the floating divs can be 1, 2 or 3 columns wide. The divs float left, so the following example will give me three rows of divs in my wrapper. How can I set equal height on the divs that are in the same row? In my example I want nr 1 and 2 to have equal height and 3, 4 and 5 another equal height? I cant know beforehand how many divs there is or how wide or high they are. Edit: They can be for instance 300, 600 or 900 px wide and the page width is 900px <div id="wrapper"> <div class="one-wide">nr1</div> <div class="two-wide">nr2</div> <div class="one-wide">nr3</div> <div class="one-wide">nr4</div> <div class="one-wide">nr5</div> <div class="three-wide">nr6</div> </div> Im thinking I somehow need to figure out when the added width of the divs is at the full page width and set equal height on those. Then do the same on the next divs. But I cant wrap my head around it. Currently im just using this to set the height on the children of the wrapper: $.fn.equalHeights = function(px) { $(this).each(function(){ var currentTallest = 0; $(this).children().each(function(i){ if ($(this).height() > currentTallest) { currentTallest = $(this).height(); } }); // for ie6, set height since min-height isn't supported if ($.browser.msie && $.browser.version == 6.0) { $(this).children().css({'height': currentTallest}); } $(this).children('div').css({'min-height': currentTallest}); }); return this; };

  • Divs not aligning side by side

    - by Abijah
    I've been learning about divs over the past few months, and am now able to align divs side by side. However, today I was working on my website, and my divs suddenly stopped lining up. The divs in question are: #dorsey_left, #dorsey_middle and #dorsey_right. When I remove #dorsey_left from the HTML document, #dorsey_middle and #dorsey_right align properly. I'm guessing that the problem is related to #dorsey_left, but I can't find anything in the code. This is the JsFiddle.

  • jquery slide toggle divs without creating multiple classes, functions, etc... ui accordion

    - by SPE
    Greetings, based on the jquery ui accordion I'm using, I have added a slide toggle to my accordion list items. so what happens is I click on an li and a div slides down underneath to reveal more content. The issue I'm having is that I find myself having to create multiple id's to reference the slidetoggle. example of the div id css: #panel, #panel2, #panel3, #panel4, etc.... the Is there a way I can use the slide toggle without having to adding another number so it will slide? I have 50 list items I'm using: Here's a sample of the js (as you can see where I'm going with this): $(".btn-slide").click(function(){ $("#panel").slideToggle("slow"); $(this).toggleClass("active"); return false; }); $(".btn-slide2").click(function(){ $("#panel2").slideToggle("slow"); $(this).toggleClass("active"); return false; }); sample html: <li><div class="slide"><a href="#" class="btn-slide">One</a></div><div id="panel"></div></li> <li><div class="slide"><a href="#" class="btn-slide2">Two</a></div><div id="panel2"></div></li>

  • SEO: Nested List vs List, Split Over Divs vs Definition List

    - by Jon P
    From an SEO perspective which, if any, is better: Option 1: Nested lists with h2 tags <ul id="mainpoints"> <li><h2>Powerful Analysis</h2> <ul> <li>Charting and indicators</li> <li>Daily trading signals</li> <li>Company health checks</li> </ul> </li> <li><h2>World Market Data</h2> <ul> [List Items removed for brevity] </ul> </li> <li><h2>Daily Market Data</h2> <ul> [List Items removed for brevity] </ul> </li> </ul> Option 2: Divs with h2 and lists <div id="mainpoints"> <div> <h2>Powerful Analysis</h2> <ul> <li>Charting and indicators</li> <li>Daily trading signals</li> <li>Company health checks</li> </ul> </div> <div> <h2>World Market Data</h2> <ul> [List Items removed for brevity] </ul> </div> <div> <h2>Daily Market Data</h2> <ul> [List Items removed for brevity] </ul> </div> </div> Option 3: Definition List <dl id="mainpoints"> <dt>Powerful Analysis</dt> <dd>- Charting and indicators</dd> <dd>- Daily trading signals</dd> <dd>- Company health checks</dd> <dt>World Market Data</dt> [List Items removed for brevity] <dt>Daily Market Data</dt> [List Items removed for brevity] </dl> My instincts tell me that semanticaly the pure list options (1 & 3) are the best and that h2 may be more SEO friendly (1 & 2) which would point to option 1 as being the best option. I do love the lean makeup of the definition list but will I take an SEO hit by losing the h2 tags? Before anyone asks, h2 is not valid markup in a dt tag. Are my instincts right with a nested list being the way to go?
