I tried to migrate a 5 year old ruby on rails application onto a new server with Ubuntu 8.04, Apache 2 and MySQL 5. The application failed to run. When I looked in the error logs, I noticed Errno::ENOENT (No such file or directory - /var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock) I looked around my new server but can't find a mysqld.sock file. How can I fix this problem?

I have mailserver configure using dovecot+postfix+mysql and it was runnig fine in the server(Ubuntu Server). But during last week it stopped working correctly. It doesn't send email. When I try to telnet localhost smtp I'm connecting successfully but when I do mail from:<[email protected]> and hit Enter it hangs on, nothing happen. Having reviewed /var/log/mail.log file I've found out that probably(99%) the problem is on postfix when it is trying to connect to MySQL server. If you see the log file given below you can see that it says Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2). My mysql installation was screwed up. I uninstalled and installed it multiple times. But I kept getting a hang or a error "cant connect". I now finally have it running with sudo -u mysql mysqld. How do I get mysqld to run at startup, and why do I need to run it as user mysql. Can I change it to run as root ? • How do I start mysqld with options

    - by xiankai
I need to start up mysqld with command line options as from here: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.1/en/server-options.html#option_mysqld_skip-grant-tables I normally do sudo service mysqld start, but passing the option as sudo service mysqld start --skip-grant-tables does not seem to work. Alternatively I have tried starting as a daemon, sudo mysqld_safe --skip-grant-tables & But it seems to terminate too soon: 131101 04:59:57 mysqld_safe Logging to '/var/lib/mysql/vagrant.example.com.err'. 131101 04:59:57 mysqld_safe Starting mysqld daemon with databases from /var/lib/mysql 131101 05:00:03 mysqld_safe mysqld from pid file /var/lib/mysql/vagrant.example.com.pid ended My last option seems to specify the option in /etc/my.cnf instead, but is there any way to do it via the command line?

  • Rails: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock'

    - by misbehavens
So I've got a Ruby on Rails application that I am trying to run (in development) on Snow Leopard. I've got it working on my Ubuntu computer, but now I need to get my Snow Leopard environment set up. Originally, I installed the MySQL 2.8.1 Ruby Gem and was running into this issue: uninitialized constant MysqlCompat::MysqlRes But thanks to this tutorial I was able to resolve it by running this command and installing a previous version of the Gem: export ARCHFLAGS="-arch i386 -arch x86_64" ;sudo gem install --no-rdoc --no-ri -v=2.7 mysql -- --with-mysql-dir=/usr/local/mysql --with-mysql-config=/usr/local/mysql/bin/mysql_config Now that I've resolved that issue, I'm running into a different error: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' This happens when I try to run rake db:migrate as well as when the server is running. How can I resolve this issue?

  • installed mysql using yum but mysqld dowsnt start: Fedora 16

    - by Sumit Singh Bir
i installed mysql mysql-server and mysql-libs ... after installation i thought to start the mysql service using command systemctl start mysqld.service Failed to issue method call: Unit mysqld.service failed to load: Invalid argument. See system logs and 'systemctl status mysqld.service' for details. systemctl status mysqld.service this said that it had an invalid argument then i changed the content of mysqld.service with this File: /etc/systemd/system/mysqld.service [Unit] Description=MySQL database server After=syslog.target After=network.target [Service] User=mysql Group=mysql ExecStart=/usr/sbin/mysqld --pid-file=/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.pid ExecStop=/bin/kill -15 $MAINPID PIDFile=/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.pid # We rely on systemd, not mysqld_safe, to restart mysqld if it dies Restart=always # Place temp files in a secure directory, not /tmp PrivateTmp=true [Install] WantedBy=multi-user.target now i found that the error for invalid argument was resolved and mysqld.service was loaded but not enabled ... using systemctl start mysqld.service worked fine ... it workedddd! but then enabling it systemctl enable mysqld.service or service mysqld start did not do anything but the curdor kept on blinking after i pressed enter ... now the thing is that for this f16 i wasted my HDD space for development work and i cannot figure out a way ... please somebody help

  • Error 2013: Lost connection to MySQL server during query when executing CHECK TABLE FOR UPGRADE

    - by Dean Richardson
I just upgraded Ubuntu from 11.10 to 12.04. My rails app now returns the (passenger) error "Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (111) (Mysql2::Error)". I get a similar error when I try to access mysql at the command line on my Ubuntu server using mysql -u root -p. I have mysql-server 5.5 installed. I've checked and mysql is not running. When I try to restart it, it fails. Here are some key lines from the tail of /var/log/syslog after an attempted restart: dean@dgwjasonfried:/etc/mysql$ tail -f /var/log/syslog Mar 7 08:55:27 dgwjasonfried /etc/mysql/debian-start[5107]: Looking for 'mysqlcheck' as: /usr/bin/mysqlcheck Mar 7 08:55:27 dgwjasonfried /etc/mysql/debian-start[5107]: Running 'mysqlcheck' with connection arguments: '--port=3306' '--socket=/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' '--host=localhost' '--socket=/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' '--host=localhost' '--socket=/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' Mar 7 08:55:27 dgwjasonfried /etc/mysql/debian-start[5107]: Running 'mysqlcheck' with connection arguments: '--port=3306' '--socket=/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' '--host=localhost' '--socket=/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' '--host=localhost' '--socket=/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' Mar 7 08:55:27 dgwjasonfried /etc/mysql/debian-start[5107]: /usr/bin/mysqlcheck: Got error: 2013: Lost connection to MySQL server during query when executing 'CHECK TABLE ... I reviewed the related questions here and attempted some of the fixes offered but to no avail. Thanks! Dean Richardson Update: Thanks to quanta's suggestion, I looked at the /var/log/mysql/error.log file. I found error messages relating to pointers, fatal signals, and more stuff that I really couldn't make much sense of. I also found mysql man page references, however. One suggested that I try starting mysqld with the --innodb_force_recovery=# option, then attempt to dump (or drop) the offending/corrupted database or table. I worked through the escalating option levels one-by-one (innodb_force_recovery=1, innodb_force_recovery=2, etc.) This allowed me to successfully run mysql -u root -p from the command line and execute several commands. I was able to run queries on my production database, but any attempt to query, dump, or even drop my development database raised an error and led to me losing the connection to mysql. So I've made progress, but until I'm somehow able to drop or repair my development db I'm still unable to get my app to load. Any further advice or suggestions? Thanks! Dean Update: Right after running sudo mysqld --innodb_force_recover=1 from the command line, the error.log contains this: Right after retrying sudo mysqld --innodb_force_recover=1, The error.log file shows this: 130308 4:55:39 [Note] Plugin 'FEDERATED' is disabled. 130308 4:55:39 InnoDB: The InnoDB memory heap is disabled 130308 4:55:39 InnoDB: Mutexes and rw_locks use GCC atomic builtins 130308 4:55:39 InnoDB: Compressed tables use zlib 1.2.3.4 130308 4:55:39 InnoDB: Initializing buffer pool, size = 128.0M 130308 4:55:39 InnoDB: Completed initialization of buffer pool 130308 4:55:39 InnoDB: highest supported file format is Barracuda. • Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2)

    - by Fotis
I am a newbie programmer, so I will need your help! Locally the webapp works ok with the db on it! When I uploaded the application on the cloudcontrol, it comes up with the following error: CDbConnection failed to open the DB connection: SQLSTATE[HY000] [2002] Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2)! I suppose I have not uploaded the db. This is the very first time I upload a webapp on a server so I do not know the exact steps that I have to follow in order to upload the db on a server. Cloudcontrol has documentation about mysql! I did follow the steps but the webapp comes with the same error! Could you please tell me what steps I have to follow in order to make it working? I am sure that this error is due to lack of knowledge!

  • Mysqld Crashes immediately on running on Windows 7...?

    - by Cyril Gupta
I am trying to run MySql 5.1 on Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. I have downloaded the MSI installer from the MYSql website and installed it. The installation is successful, but the service does not start. If I try to run MySql manually using the mysqld executable, it crashes immediately on running (error: mysqld.exe has stopped working). Earlier mysql was running on the machine, but I had some problem with it (wasn't executing big queries) and installed it again which somehow broke the program. I had installed it to work as a service which started giving me this isse, and now it won't work even if I don't install it as a service. I have tried removing the mysql folder and re-installing. Is there somewhere else where Mysql saves configuration info or other data? Has anyone else found this problem and solved it? How can I find out why the process is failing to run?

  • ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2)

    - by OtagoHarbour
I have MySQL installed on Ubuntu 11.10. I has been working fine for months but yesterday I started getting the following message ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2) and cannot get rid of it. I tried /etc/init.d/mysqld start and got bash: /etc/init.d/mysqld: No such file or directory The /etc/init.d/ directory contains mysql but not mysqld. I tried sudo service mysql restart It just hung for about half an hour and then I ctrl-C-ed it. I then tried sudo service mysql start I got mysql start/running But when I tried mysql I got ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2) I tried ps aux|grep mysql and got peter 17754 0.0 0.0 4196 768 pts/1 S+ 09:38 0:00 grep --color=auto mysql I ideas about fixing this problem would be most appreciated.

  • Killing the mysqld process

    - by Josh K
I have a table with ~800k rows. I ran an update users set hash = SHA1(CONCAT({about eight fields})) where 1; Now I have a hung Sequel Pro process and I'm not sure about the mysqld process. This is two questions: What harm can possibly come from killing these programs? I'm working on a separate database, so no damage should come to other databases on the system, right? Assume you had to update a table like this. What would be a quicker / more reliable method of updating without writing a separate script. I just checked with phpMyAdmin and it appears as though the query is complete. I still have Sequel Pro using 100% of both my cores though...

  • Problem running mysql client, cannot connect to mysql server

    - by ehsanul
Edit3: Thanks for the help everyone. Sorry for wasting anybody's time, but it seems like a simple reboot solved it. I should've known better, but I just had the assumption that the "restart" solution is mostly valid just for MS Windows (no offense). I'll keep this in mind before I ask a question here again. I installed the mysql-client-5.0 and mysql-server-5.0 packages on Ubuntu 8.04, using sudo apt-get install. When I try to run the "mysql" command, I get the following error: ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2) To verify that mysql server is running, I tried this, and it does seem to be running, with the correct socket too: $ ps aux | grep mysql root 13388 0.0 0.0 1772 528 ? S 06:24 0:00 /bin/sh /usr/bin/mysqld_safe mysql 13553 0.0 1.4 127012 15332 ? Sl 06:25 0:00 /usr/sbin/mysqld --basedir=/usr --datadir=/var/lib/mysql --user=mysql --pid-file=/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.pid --skip-external-locking --port=3306 --socket=/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock root 13555 0.0 0.0 3008 696 ? Note that I'm completely new to mysql. Edit: As requested in comments, the exact command that is returning the error is simply "sudo mysql". And when I check netstats for active networks services, I do see an entry for port 3306, with Protocol: tcp, IP Source: 127.0.0.1, State: LISTEN Edit2: It appears as if the /var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock socket doesn't exist (if I'm interpreting the following output correctly): $ ls -al /var/run/mysqld/ total 0 drwxr-xr-x 2 mysql root 40 2009-08-06 06:36 . drwxr-xr-x 20 root root 860 2009-08-06 06:25 ..

  • File permissions to run mysqld in chroot

    - by Neo
I'm trying to run mysqld inside chroot environment. Herez the situation. When I run mysqld as root, I can connect to my databases. But when I run mysql using init.d scripts, mysql gives me an error. $ mysql --user=root --password=password ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (111) So I guess, I need to change file permissions of some files. But which ones? Oh and in case you are wondering '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' is owned by 'mysql' user. EDIT: strace output looks something like this [pid 20599] <... select resumed> ) = 0 (Timeout) [pid 20599] time (NULL) = 12982215237 [pid 20599] select(0, NULL, NULL, NULL, {1, 0} <unfinished ...>

  • Extremely high mysqld CPU usage with no active queries

    - by RadarNyan
    I have a VPS running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS with LEMP stack, followed the guide from Linode Library (since I'm using a Linode) to setup, and everything worked fine until now. I don't know what's wrong, but my CPU usage just goes up since a week ago. Today things getting really bad - I got 74% CPU usage so I went check and found that mysqld taking too much CPU usage (somewhere around 30% ~ 80%) So I did some Google Search, tried disable InnoDB, restart mysql, reset ntp / system clock (Isn't this bug supposed to happen more than a year ago?!) and reboot my VPS, nothing helped. Even with mysql processlist empty, I still get mysqld CPU usage very high. I don't know what I missed and have totally no idea, any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Update: I got these from running "strace mysqld" write(2, "InnoDB: Unable to lock ./ibdata1"..., 44) = 44 write(2, "InnoDB: Check that you do not al"..., 115) = 115 select(0, NULL, NULL, NULL, {1, 0}^[[A^[[A) = 0 (Timeout) fcntl64(3, F_SETLK64, {type=F_WRLCK, whence=SEEK_SET, start=0, len=0}, 0xbfa496f8) = -1 EAGAIN (Resource temporarily unavailable) hum... I did tried to disable InnoDB and it didn't fix this problem. Any idea? Update2: # ps -e | grep mysqld 13099 ? 00:00:20 mysqld then use "strace -p 13099", the following lines appears repeatedly: fcntl64(12, F_GETFL) = 0x2 (flags O_RDWR) fcntl64(12, F_SETFL, O_RDWR|O_NONBLOCK) = 0 accept(12, {sa_family=AF_FILE, NULL}, [2]) = 14 fcntl64(12, F_SETFL, O_RDWR) = 0 getsockname(14, {sa_family=AF_FILE, path="/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock"}, [30]) = 0 fcntl64(14, F_SETFL, O_RDONLY) = 0 fcntl64(14, F_GETFL) = 0x2 (flags O_RDWR) setsockopt(14, SOL_SOCKET, SO_RCVTIMEO, "\36\0\0\0\0\0\0\0", 8) = 0 setsockopt(14, SOL_SOCKET, SO_SNDTIMEO, "<\0\0\0\0\0\0\0", 8) = 0 fcntl64(14, F_SETFL, O_RDWR|O_NONBLOCK) = 0 setsockopt(14, SOL_IP, IP_TOS, [8], 4) = -1 EOPNOTSUPP (Operation not supported) futex(0xb786a584, FUTEX_WAKE_OP_PRIVATE, 1, 1, 0xb786a580, {FUTEX_OP_SET, 0, FUTEX_OP_CMP_GT, 1}) = 1 futex(0xb7869998, FUTEX_WAKE_PRIVATE, 1) = 1 poll([{fd=10, events=POLLIN}, {fd=12, events=POLLIN}], 2, -1) = 1 ([{fd=12, revents=POLLIN}]) er... now I totally don't get it x_x help

There seems to be about 9995 entries and I would like to display all of them. I have been using this command as of now awk '/CVSS Score is/ < /Potential vulnerability found/' output.txt but this seems to display only the name of the vulnerability or the score. How do I display this in file(text, excel) such that all the vulnerability and the corresponding score willbe displayed. Any help would be appreciated Thank you.

I can't find where MAMP has set --skip-locking set, my.cnf doesnt have it anywhere. Activity monitor gives me a mysqld process running by me, and everytime i KILL the process both via Activity Monitor and via kill =9 pid it starts right back up.. Sampling the process points back to the MAMP mysqld.. wtf?! About to throw MAMP out the window and boot up a VM of CentOS =)
