  • 1680x1050 via VGA won't work correctly in Windows 7 32bit

    I am trying to connect a Samsung 22" SyncMaster with my laptop running Windows 7 32-bit, an AMD HD 6500 Mobility. Though Catalyst Control Centre as well as Windows identify the correct resolution of 1650x1080, and it is selected, it isn't displayed. Looks more like a lower resolution that's getting stretched over the monitor. The weird part: The monitor worked for years without problems, one day it decided not to work properly anymore. Maybe some update issue, I have no idea.

    I have a requirement where a few people need the latest version of Silverlight 4 installed. I know the latest version is 5.xx... but apparently with some new software we're having installed we have to use version 4 After a bit of googling i can see that the latest version is... Build 4.1.10329.0 Released May 8, 2012 We have a mix of Win7 64-bit machines and WinXP 32-bit machines. Q: Is there a different version for each OS or the same one fits all. (This seems strangely hard to decipher by googling) Q: Does anyone know where i can download the latest version 4? Microsoft do not seem to offer it anymore unless i'm just not finding it. Q: Is there a separate browser version of it or will installing it also handle any browser needs (our new software will be browser based) Any pointers much appreciated. Paul

  • Why 64 bit OS can't run a 16 bit application?

    Why is it that a 32 bit OS that is installed on a 64 bit CPU can run old DOS 16 bit applications, but if you install a 64 bit OS it cant run those applications directly and need some sort of emulation (that doesn't always work perfectly)? To be more specific I have an Intel Core 2 Due (64bit) procesor, and I had Windows Xp and Windows 7 (both 32bit) installed and it could run old dos applications, but now that I have installed Windows 7 64 bit it can't run those same application anymore?

  • Poor performance of single processor 32bit Windows XP xompared SMP in VBA+Excel

    Welcome! On many computers I experienced poor performance of 32 bit guests running on 64 bit Linux host (I used only the Debian family). At last I managed to collect benchmark data. I made the benchmark by running custom VBA macro, (which we use in our company) that generates 284 pages long Word document full of Excel Pie charts, tables and comments. The macro is run as a single task (excluding the standard services) on a set of identically configured Windows XP 32-bit systems. I measured the time (in sec.) needed to perform the test. The computer (i.e. my notebook Asus P53E) supports both VT-d extensions and native Windows XP. It has 2-core processor, each core is hyperthreaded, so in total we have 4 mostly independent execution units. I use the latest VirtualBox 4.2 and VMWare Workstation 9.0 for Linux, installed together on the same host (running Mint 13 Maya) but never run simultaneously. Although VBA is inherently single-threaded, the Excel calculations, which take much more than a half of total computation time, supposedly aren't. So one would expect some speed gain when running on 2+ cores ("+" for hyperthreading). What we see is a speed loss. And quite big one too. For the VirtualBox the VT-d extension isn't a big deal. Can anyone shed some light on why the singlethreaded Windows kernel is so much faster than the SMP one?

    I've got a driver setup for 32 bit: An INF file and an x86 folder with two 32 bit dlls. I need to replace these 32 bit dll files with 64 bit ones. I just simply overwrite 32 bit files but no lock. How can I make 64 bit version of the driver?   • Setting up Konico Minolta 1400w printer on windows vista 32bit

    One of my neighbors asked me to help them setup this old printer on their computer (thier other printer is broken) so after fighting with it for about an hour but to no avail. Every time I try to install it, windows just recognizes it a as "print to file printer" as in it will only print to an output file. It's kinda urgent so speedy help would be appreciated.

    I am having problem with a user account on a Windows 7 machine (local install, admin user account) APPPATH and LOCALAPPPATH environment are not set. Another user on the same machine, (also a local account, but without admin rights) has the variables set. This started to happen recently, however, I can not figure out if there was something installed on the machine to cause this. This is creating issues with applications that are trying to expand the variables to store local files. Thank you for the help.

  • Can't rename folders in Window 7/32bit after anti-virus change

    I recently started having the common, as I realized, problem of not being able to rename folders in Windows 7 (32 bit). I don't understand why it happened after almost a year of ideal use of Windows 7. I haven't removed the libraries nor can I think of anything else that could potentially cause this, at least as far as I know. The only thing I did recently was to change my anti-virus program from the freeware version of Avira to the freeware anti-virus Microsoft Security Essentials. Any idea on what the problem is and how to fix this?

When the nvidia installer asked me if I wanted to install "32bit compatability libraries" (or something like that) I chose yes. How do I fix this? Edit: I just reinstalled the same Nvidia driver, and that apparently removed the 32bit OpenGL driver completely: $ ldconfig -p | grep libGL.so libGL.so.1 (libc6,x86-64) => /usr/lib/libGL.so.1 libGL.so (libc6,x86-64) => /usr/lib/libGL.so Now Steam won't start: You are missing the following 32-bit libraries, and Steam may not run: libGL.so.1 Again, I chose YES when the installer asked me if I wanted to install 32bit libraries.   • Error 0x80300001 Installing Windows Server 2008 R2 64bit on FastTrak TX4660 RAID volume

    I am trying to install Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise 64bit on the following hardware: motherboard Intel DBS1200BTL Promise FastTrak TX4660 RAID controller 4 disks set up in two RAID1 arrays (handled by FastTrak) I am trying to install Windows so it would boot from RAID1 volume created with the FastTrak controller. The installation goes as in the manual, I insert the disk with the driver, select 'Browse' and specify the correct driver, it finds all the RAID arrays but notifies me that error 0x80300001 happened, Windows can't be installed on the mentioned RAID volumes, since they may not be bootable (even though the target RAID volume is the first in boot options list). If I proceed with the installation, Windows copies and unpacks itself, performs other standard actions after that. After the computer is restarted, it won't boot (Windows Boot Manager appears in the boot devices list; however, neither it nor the RAID volume itself does not boot). Is it a known problem? I can attach the boot disks to the motherboard and use its RAID capabilities instead, but I'd prefer FastTrak ones. Driver version is 1.3.0.4. Thanks.

  • Unable To Successfully Use Java Anywhere (Windows 7 64bit)

    This is a bit of an odd issue: (This is with JRE 7u7 32bit.) New Lenovo W530 laptop, everything is shiny. I tried to use a java applet for the first time recently (in Chrome). I got the Java logo and it started spinning like it was going to load, but didn't get anywhere and the browser locked up. I tried IE. Same deal. Tried Firefox. Same deal. So, I did the usual things: Rebooted, nothing. Un-installed Java, rebooted, re-installed, nothing. Tried it installing a 64bit Java as well. Same thing. I tried JRE6. Same thing. I uninstalled and manually deleted all the registry entries I could find related to it, then re-installed. Same thing. I un-installed and used the JavaRa utility. Same exact thing. I've not been able to use web applets or desktop stuff (minecraft), until yesterday. I did a graphics driver update and I was able to play minecraft for small amounts of time. It crashed regularly and wouldn't start reliably. No change in web applets. I'm at my wits end here. I'm to the point where reformatting is my only option. If anyone has any ideas at all, that would be awesome.

  • Windows 2008 64bit: applications and explorer always hang

    I setup a couple of Window 2008 64bit systems about 5 months ago. Initially all seemed well. Now however, for no apparent reason, things are dog slow, apps hang, explorer hangs, just clicking on something can cause a CPU spike of 100%, and often it's explorer that is eating it up. As I have two on identical hardware, and they experience the same problem, it doesn't seem related to addon software. The only thing these have in common is Kaspersky and I've tried disabling/uninstalling to no avail. There are no useful error messages in the event logs. Actually, the system never even reports app hangs. Sometimes, it similar to what I've seen on Windows 7 systems where the screen goes milky and asks if I want to trouble shoot, that's only when get impatient and click happy. The really odd thing, is that it will NOT do this for a few minutes at a time, and then starts up again. Like I will click on the start menu and browse for the Admin Tools, the start menu will hang at some point and I'll have to wait about a minute, then it's OK. The next time I do this, a few seconds later, it's fine. Every click seems to hang the first time around, then be ok the second time if I do the exact same thing. If anyone has any suggestions, please PLEASE let me know! thanks =)

    i wrote a CD with an iso-image from debian.org. the debian-7.5.0-amd64-CD-1.iso from this folder. Debian Wheezy 7.5 stable 64bit There was an error at Select and install software step. It said Retrieving file 770 from 800 and then it failed the installation. I continued the instal and when i opened the computer it doesn't work the Ctrl + Alt + F7 as i waited. It starts at tty1 and after logging in i edited config file cause it had a lot of errors and said E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages or Couldn't found the package.   • Alternative Bluetooth Stacks for Windows 7 64bit

    I have a notebook with an inbuilt Broadcom BCM2046 bluetooth adapter and several bluetooth HID-devices (mice, keyboards etc.) The operating system is Windows 7 64 bit Professional. The HID-devices all work perfectly with other computers, but on the system mentionend above, problems with some power-saving features inside the HID-devices occur (see eg. Amazon reviews for Microsoft Mobile Keyboard 6000 not waking up). I have tried the bluetooth drivers supplied by Windows update and the latest Broadcom drivers directly from the Broadcom updater software. The problems persist (I can rule out any further configuration issues or alternative device drivers, I have tried every possibility). I have tried a trial version of the BlueSoleil Bluetooth stack and it solved the wake-up problem. However the BlueSoleil stack causes some other problems, is relatively expensive and I would prefer not to use it. My question: are there any other alternative bluetooth stacks availible for Windows 7 64bit? To my knowledge there used to be Toshiba Bluetooth stack for non-Toshiba hardware, but the older versions I have found on the internet do not install, they do not seem to recognize the bluetooth hardware when installing the driver.

  • Please help to find a solution for two way, real-time synchronization on Centos 5.5 64Bit

    I am in need of a real time, two way synchronization software for Centos 5.5 / 64Bit. Here's little explanation: It needs to be able to perform: Two way synchronization. It must be realtime. By realtime means it can be almost realtime, i.e. a delay of 1 second for example is fine. And the folders are on the same server. I am currently using GlusterFS across two webservers. However, it has extremely poor small file read performance and it's slowing down my website. There's nothing more that can be done to improve this, I have already tested many configurations. As a solution, I was going to mount a RAM drive (tmpfs) that mirrors the GlusterFS web files but get the webserver to use the RAM drive. The issue is that I need two way realtime mirroring or replication between glusterfs and the RAM drive. I need this is as Apache writes files as wells. As I said, realtime two way synchronization across two folders. Which are in fact 2 different mounts points. The RAM (tmpfs) mount poing and the GlusterFS mount point. I already know about: Rsync - Which is one way Unison - Which is not realtime Please suggest me any solution free or paid. Thanks in advance

  • Ubuntu 12.10 64bit host reboots when trying to install any guest system using VirtualBox

    I am having a really nasty problem with VirtualBox as everytime I try to install any guest OS(using ISO file as CD for installation media), the installation starts normally but as soon as it is about to start either installing to virtual hard drive or loading(e.g. as LiveFS) it causes the host system to reboot abruptly. Config is as below: Host system: Ubuntu 12.10 64bit - Intel® Core i7-2640M CPU @ 2.80GHz × 4 Virtualbox version: 4.1.18_Ubuntu r78361 Guest OS systems tried: 32bit version of FreeBSD 9, Debian 6, Tails 0.14 VM setup Tried to have the minimal setup necessary just in case it would avoid for each system to make sure I'd avoid conflicts, but to no avail. I've tried different values and combinations of the below but the problem still persists: Shared Clipboard: Disabled Show in fullscreen/seamless: Disabled Remember runtime changes: DIsabled Base Memory: 2048 MB Chipset: PIIX3 IO APIC: Disabled EFI: Disabled Absolute Pointing device: Disabled Processor(s): 1 CPU PAE/NX: Disabled VT-x/AMD-V: Disabled Video Memory: 12 MB 3d/2d acceleration: Disabled Storage IDE COntroller: PIIX3 (same as chipset instead of PIIX4) Use host I/O cache: No Audio: disabled Network adapter: NAT USB controller: disabled No shared folder Also another sideeffect of the reboot is that it appears that it does not log any information in the error log files; not making things any easier.     I've got a weird problem in the download speeds on my desktop PC (Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit) are consistently fast (approx. 400kB/s) but uploads are very slow (around 6-10kB/s). This has been going on for the last 3 weeks or so. I am a very competent user and troubleshooter, and have searched online for 2 weeks for a solution, to no avail. Part of the problem is that internet is provided by WiFi by my landlord and I have no access to the router (BT Home Hub router) although I know for sure he wouldn't have the first idea on how to restrict my usage :) (rules that out) Anyway, I've tried: - various drivers (my Wifi 'card' is TP-link TL-WN851N, and I've tried TP-link + Atheros + Qualcomm Atheross drivers, suggested by Microsoft) - various tweaks to network parameters (e.g. as suggested by SpeedOptimser) - various tweaks to Windows 7 services (e.g. disabling/manual-ing unecessary services) - raising and lowering head onto a reasonably firm surface at moderate frequency (jk :D) None of the above have helped, and I'm officialy asking for help now!!     In a project I work on we use a Python C module compiled from Fortran with f2py. I've had no issues building it on Windows 7 32bit (using mingw32) and on the servers it's built on 32bit Linux. But I've recently installed Ubuntu 10.04 LTS 64bit on my laptop that I use for development, and when I build it I get a lot of warnings (even though I've apparently installed all gcc/fortran libraries/compilers), but it does finish the build.   • How to check location of 32bit Program FIles folder in windows .bat script

    I want to write .bat script which works under all flavours of Windows, no matter if 32 or 64 bit. In this script I want to run some file.exe. That file is located in C:\Program Files\ under 32-bit systems or C:\Program FIles (x86)\ under x64 systems. I can write: "%ProgramFiles(x86)%\file.exe" under 64bit systems or "%ProgramFiles%\file.exe" under 32bit systems but I want to make the script universal. Is there any way of determining that path universally?

    Hi all, I have come code that reads the registry and looks for a value in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\App\ but when running on 64bit versions of Windows the value is under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\App. How should I best approach this? Do I need a 64bit installer or should I rewrite my code to detect both places? Thanks

  • portable way to deal with 64/32 bit time_t

    I have some code which is built both on Windows and Linux. Linux at this point is always 32bit but Windows is 32 and 64bit. Windows wants to have time_t be 64 bit and Linux still has it as 32 bit. I'm fine with that, except in some places time_t values are converted to strings. So when time_T is 32 bit it should be done with %d and when it is 64bit with %lld... what is the smart way to do this? Also: any ideas how I may find all places where time_t's are passed to printf-style functions to address this issue?
