• Network Sharing Issues

  I have two computers I want to have on a network share together (so the laptop can print through the desktop's printer). These are both connected to the same router. (One wired and one wireless) And they both have the same workgroup name. However, when I type "net view" in the command prompt, the only computer that shows up is the computer I type the command into. How do I get these computers to be shared with each other? Update: The tower is running Windows XP, the Laptop is running Windows 7. I have disabled the Firewall on both until I get this set up. Update 2: Typing the command net view on my desktop is acting very strangely. Noe sometimes it only shows itself on the list of computers, sometimes it shows itself and the laptop and sometimes it doesn't work at all and displays system error 6118. I typed net view into the command prompt on the Windows 7 laptop and both computers showed up, so I went to connect to the desktop from the laptop and it said the dekptop could not be found, even though it is showing up int he list of shared computers. • Why does Public Folder share prompt for password even after I set "Turn off password protected sharing"

  I have a fileserver on a WORKGROUP which I have created a share on. I have turned on public folder sharing, file and printing sharing and set password protected sharing to off. When I try to share the folder by right clicking it and selecting proerties, then selecting sharing tab, then clicking the "share" button, then clicking share, it prompts me asking wether or not I want to turn on network discovery for public network, and after I say either yes or no, it says that my folder cant be shared. When I try to share via advanced sharing, then the folder is shared, and it's status is set to shared. However when I try to access this folder from a computer on the same network, it prompts me to enter a username and password. I am trying to setup a share for my VMware ThinApp packages that can be access no matter what domain the users are on.

• Suggestions for hosted file sharing services

  Before I pose my question, I will give some insight as per my scenario: I work for a small business (cost is an important factor) Our bandwidth is limited and would not support an in-house FTP server We need to share files (mostly pdf, inDesign, Illustrator documents) to our clients, and as we expand, we are finding that our current locally-hosted FTP solution is too slow and is becoming a detriment to our sales team. What we need is a remotely hosted solution to share files with our clients, specifically with the following features: Greater than 100gb of secure storage The Ability to distribute unique log in credentials to clients, granting access to a personalized directory or folder, while limiting access to other files on the server. A relatively simple web-based UI for clients with limited computer knowledge We have considered a dedicated remote server, and web-based services (box.net, yousendit.com, onehub.com, filesanywhere.com) but I am unsure as per the direction we should be taking - have I left another solution out? • Sharing directories in Windows 7

  I've created a directory named "Shared" in my "My Documents" directory (C:\Users\Cory.MYDOMAIN\Documents\Shared). I right clicked on the Shared folder and publicly shared this one directory. At least that's what wanted to do. In reality, Windows 7 shared the entire C:\Users directory. How can I share this one subdirectory without granting access to the rest of the C:\Users tree?

• Online FTP or file sharing service [on hold]

  We need to share large files with clients, e.g. clients upload a large file, we modify it and later make it available for download. Up until now we've used FTP but this has a number of drawbacks. A lot of management of files and setting up accounts etc. We are therefore considering online alternatives. Requirements: Cheap, 8-) Easy to use, ideally just requiring a web browser, but also possible for power users to connect e.g. via FTPS/SFTP No registration requried for users to upload/download files. We ourselves of course need to be able to login an view uploaded files and upload new files. No per user fee High bandwidth. As files may be GBs in size both upload and download speed cannot be too slow Secure. Encryption during upload/download. No way for users to access uploaded files. Once a user has uploaded a file they (or anyone else besides us) should be able to access the file. To download files users get a link with a password. Ideally the link expires after a set time. No software installation We do NOT need any sync features, backup, versioning etc. Just a quick, easy, secure way for us to share files with our clients. Services like JustCloud, DriveHQ etc seems bloated and "too much" for what we need. What other alternatives exist? Thanks!

  I have the software mentioned in the title running on my machine. When I connect over VPN to my company's network, my internet connection gets borked, because somehow the ISA firewall blocks it. This is completely idiotic, because my work involves extensive use of the internet, so having to disconnect and reconnect continuously seriously cripples my productivity. (Meaning: I'm tearing my hair out here.) Can I have my VPN connection and somehow still have my internet connection too? I'm open to any solution.

• Turnkeylinux lampp guest doesn't have internet connection

  I've set up a turnkeylinux lampp server in virtualbox with two network bridged connections, one for when I'm plugged in to my router, and one for when I'm using a wireless connection. This allowed me to pull up the turnkey control panel on the host machine's browser, but when I try going into the command prompt in the guest and run an apt-get update, it doesn't seem to have an internet connection, even though it seems to have a connection with the host. What could be wrong? Thank you very much in advance for any answers...!

• Remote Desktop connection repeatedly aborting

  I connect to my workplace computer using Remote Desktop. After 1-2 minutes the application freezes to tell me after one more minute that the connection was aborted. It then reconnects. Everything works again for 1-2 minutes. Then the process repeats. Probably Forever. My coworkers do not experience such problems when connecting to the workplace. My workplace computer: Windows 7 32bit My home computer: Windows 7 64bit connected to the internet via WLAN-router with integrated ADSL modem (Linksys WAG200G) Things I already tried to fix the problem: disabled the Windows firewall disabled the other firewall reduced the MTU upgraded the firmware on the router configured port-forwarding to forward all packets to my home computer The problem remains unchanged.   I'm using Firefox 5 with some add-ons that require an external connection to a certain server (lastPass & Xmarks). I'm using the connection from my company, and every while & then I get a pop-up; Secure connection failed. This certificate in not trusted because the certificate issuer isn't trusted. • Gather Outlook/Exchange connection Status responses from script

  I'm trying to figure out a way in-which I can remotely gather Outlook = Exchange Connection stats from systems. I know I can have the users Right-click their Outlook icon in the system notification area, and then choose "Connection Status", but I'd really like to be able to poll this information without having to as the user to do anything. I saw this previous post, and I believe what he did is similar to what I'm trying to do we created a VB application that would pull user PTO information from a backend system and send out status emails to each of the users on a monthly basis but I'm trying to do it to gather the connection information from all my sites for certain parts of the day. Ideally I would like to do this via some sort of VBScript code since that is what I'm most familiar with, but I can work with Powershell too. My environment is all Exchange 2003 and Outlook 2003 clients.

  We are seeing errors on some of our QA testing scripts that intermittently throw Connection Reset By Peer errors. The Test scripts submit requests via F5 which forwards requests to Apache (2.2.21) with a mod_jk load_balancer with the following setting for each worker in the worker.property worker1 props worker.worker1.type=ajp13 worker.worker1.port=8109 worker.worker1.lbfactor=1 worker.worker1.host=skunkhost1.com worker.worker1.connection_pool_timeout=30 and here is what is in the JBoss domain.xml for the AJP port from JBoss 7.1.1 <unbounded-queue-thread-pool name="SKUNKY.APP.AJP"> <max-threads count="300"/> <keepalive-time time="3" unit="minutes"/> </unbounded-queue-thread-pool> Here is httpd.conf Timeout 300 KeepAlive On KeepAliveTimeout 15 MaxKeepAliveRequests 100 TraceEnable Off My question is that is it posisbe that apache times out and closes the connection while jboss is still ready and working on the request? • netbook losing internet connection

  I have a netbook that occassionally, usually once or twice a day, maybe more, will lose its internet connection while I am on Skype (that's when I notice it most, it may happen more often). The little yellow dot appears over the networking icon in the system tray, which when I click on it says no internet access at the top of the popup menu, and next to the router connection that I have. Disconnecting and reconnecting usually rectifies full internet access again. I'm not sure if leaving it for any amount of time allows the netbook to automatically reconnect again. Everything seems fine with my laptop. I don't think this loses connection in the same way. I'm using Windows 7 home premium.

I honestly don't know if this caused any damages or not. But it's prompted that /etc/ssh/sshd_config was stored as /etc/ssh/sshd_config.rpmnew which was quite normal. I've seen similar posts while googling, but almost all of them suggests that I should check /etc/hosts.allow and /etc/hosts.deny, which in my case, I can't. I can not connect to the box to see what's going on there. I rebooted the box, through web interface of server provider, and it even got worse. My questions: Whats the best database design for photo-sharing website (like flickr)? Will there be any problems if I keep creating new folder in "photos" folder. What if hundreds of thousands users registered? Whats the best practices What size of photos should I keep? Currently I only stored thumbnail (100x100) and (max) 1600x1200 px photos. What others things I should take note when developing photos-sharing website?

• Splitting an internet connection between multiple separate subnetworks

  Problem I have an internet connection that I want to split between four separate networks. My requirements are: I need to be able to monitor the amount of bandwidth and data being used by each network, and notify or control as necessary. The four networks should only be able to connect to the internet, not each other. My parents need to be able to operate it, so it needs a simple, preferably Windows-based GUI. Progress so far Server I have a mini-ITX server with six Gigabit ethernet ports - one for the ethernet internet connection, one for each of the four networks, and one for remote access to the server for administration. Bandwidth control I spent a long time researching solutions here. The majority of the control systems/software I found could control bandwidth usage via QOS, but could not monitor or control the amount of data being used. Eventually I found the SoftPerfect Bandwidth Manager, which has everything I need in terms of monitoring and control - per-interface quota management, usage statistics, a web interface for checking usage, and email notifications when quotas are exceeded. It is also Windows-based and has a simple GUI. Internet sharing This is where I am having issues. I am currently using Windows XP Pro SP2 for the server (yes, I know this is far from ideal, but it's the only spare Windows OS I currently have). I can't use the built-in Internet Connection Sharing for several reasons: The upstream internet router has an IP of 192.168.0.1 which ICS clashes with, and I cannot change the router settings. ICS can only share an internet connection with a single interface, but I have four. I have tried bridging the four network cards, but then the Bandwidth Manager cannot see the four individual interfaces - it only sees the bridge. I have tried setting up Dual DHCP DNS server (and am having issues getting DHCP offers to be received by clients), but that would still require gateway software of some sort, which I have been unable to find. My current attempt is to use OpenVPN, with a server for the internet NIC and a separate client for each of the four networks. My thought is that I could bridge the OpenVPN TAP devices to each NIC, meaning that the Bandwidth Manager would control traffic from the bridge instead of the interface. I have not made much progress here though - I've never used OpenVPN before. Questions Is there a Windows software package that does everything I need? (Unlikely, I know) Is there a Windows software package that will share internet between multiple NICs without bridging? Are either of my about attempts feasible? Would it help to have a newer/server version of Windows? Is there a non-Windows alternative that is easy to use?

Does anyone make a device that you place on either side of a wall to hook up a connection? Preferably something that can do 100Mb full duplex and can't be eavesdropped on with common hardware?

• VPN connection over apache mod_proxy

  Hi We have several virtual machines which are connected in a private virtual network connection. Internet access for these machines is provided via dedicated virtual machine which has apache proxy server on it (they all use this machine as proxy). The problem now is that from several machines we need to connect to external VPN Server, but it seems that VPN connections don't work over apache proxy. Any suggestions on how to enable VPN connection over apache proxy (or some other proxy)? Some other solution? Thanks
