• Tomcat's connection pool opens only 20 connections to mysql

  I have a java application with following line in context.xml <Resource driverClassName="com.mysql.jdbc.Driver" maxActive="100" maxIdle="30" initialSize="10" maxWait="7000" name="jdbc/app" password="pass" type="javax.sql.DataSource" url="jdbc:mysql://dbhost:3306/dbname?autoReconnect=true" username="user" validationQuery="SELECT 1" removeAbandoned="true" removeAbandonedTimeout="30" logAbandoned="true" /> In mysql 'show variables' tells me that max_connections is 151. Still, use information_schema; select count(*) from processlist where User = 'user'; never shows me more than 20 connections. • Self hosted Wordpress freezes for 20 seconds before sending the page

  I have a website with Wordpress and PHPBB integrated - and it's been fine for months.. then all of a sudden, it's unbelievably slow to load. There are no errors in the apache logs, but looking at the page in firebug shows a 20 second pause, before the page is delivered. more confusing, on the same server, same apache installation, PHPBB loads in 30ms, no delay. I tried the hogdetector wordpress plugin, which indicates that the delay is before the header is sent - which seems to agree with firebug. Any ideas how to troubleshoot this one further?

• SSH disconnects active session after 20 minutes

  I’ve just set up a new Linux box (OpenSuSE 12.3 on VmWare). Now I stated that my SSH shell sessions are disconnected exactly after 20 minutes, clearly with activity. (Putty: “Network error: Software caused connection abort”) I already set Putty to send keep alives every 64 sec. In sshd_config, I set ClientAliveInterval 50 ClientAliveCountMax 2 and did a deamon reload. Didn’t help. About two minutes after the link breakdown, ssh reports to /var/log/messages: … … sshd[…]: Timeout, client not responding. … … sshd[…]: pam_unix(sshd:session): session closed for user root I don’t encounter this behaviour when connecting to other virtual machines, so I guess the problem isn’t in the network. Any help is appreciated.

• Latest DSTv15 Timezone Patches Available for E-Business Suite

  If your E-Business Suite Release 11i or 12 environment is configured to support Daylight Saving Time (DST) or international time zones, it's important to keep your timezone definition files up-to-date. They were last changed in July 2010 and released as DSTv14. DSTv15 is now available and certified with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i and 12. Is Your Apps Environment Affected?When a country or region changes DST rules or their time zone definitions, your Oracle E-Business Suite environment will require patching if:Your Oracle E-Business Suite environment is located in the affected country or region ORYour Oracle E-Business Suite environment is located outside the affected country or region but you conduct business or have customers or suppliers in the affected country or region We last discussed the DSTv14 patches on this blog. • Mercurial release management. Rejecting changes that fail testing

  Researching distributed source control management (specifically mercurial). My question is more or less what is the best practice for rejecting entire sets of code that fail testing? Example: A team is working on a hello world program. They have testers and a scheduled release coming up with specific features planned. Upcoming Release: Add feature A Add feature B Add feature C So, the developers make their clones for their features, do the work and merge them into a QA repo for the testers to scrutinize. Let's say the testers report back that "Feature B is incomplete and in fact dangerous", and they would like to retest A and C. End example. What's the best way to do all this so that feature B can easily be removed and you end up with a new repo that contains only feature A and C merged together? Recreate the test repo? Back out B? Other magic?

• Cisco AnyConnect on IOS 12.4(20)T

  There are plenty of tutorials on setting up AnyConnect on an ASA unit, and a handful of links noting that IOS 12.4(15) and later support AnyConnect, but I can't seem to find any good documentation about how to setup AnyConnect on IOS; most tutorials assume you only want a clientless VPN on IOS. the best I've found is this document on Cisco's site, but it's not working for me in practice - see below. This is all on a Cisco 881W: router#show version | include Version Cisco IOS Software, C880 Software (C880DATA-UNIVERSALK9-M), Version 12.4(20)T1, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc3) ROM: System Bootstrap, Version 12.4(15r)XZ2, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1) The old SSL VPN Client seems to install just fine: router#show webvpn install status svc SSLVPN Package SSL-VPN-Client version installed: CISCO STC win2k+ 1.0.0 1,1,4,176 Thu 08/16/2007 12:37:00.43 However, when I install the AnyConnect client, after authenticating it hangs for a while during the self-update process, and stops with an error that the "AnyConnect package unavailable or corrupted." I've managed to put a "manual" copy via slapcat and slapadd into the database, but I'd like to sync automatically. UPDATE: "Solved" by removing /var/lib/ldap/* and re-importing the database with slapadd.

• Keepalived for more than 20 virtual addresses

  I have set up keepalived on two Debian machines for high availability, but I've run into the maximum number of virtual IP's I can assign to my vrrp_instance. How would I go about configuring and failing over 20+ virtual IP's? This is the, very simple, setup: LB01: 10.200.85.1 LB02: 10.200.85.2 Virtual IPs: 10.200.85.100 - 10.200.85.200 Each machine is also running Apache (later Nginx) binding on the virtual IPs for SSL client certificate termination and proxying to backend webservers. The reason I need so many VIP's is the inability to use VirtualHost on HTTPS. This is my keepalived.conf: vrrp_script chk_apache2 { script "killall -0 apache2" interval 2 weight 2 } vrrp_instance VI_1 { interface eth0 state MASTER virtual_router_id 51 priority 101 virtual_ipaddress { 10.200.85.100 . . all the way to . 10.200.85.200 } An identical configuration is on the BACKUP machine, and it's working fine, but only up to the 20th IP. I have found a HOWTO discussing this problem. Basically, they suggest having just one VIP and routing all traffic "via" this one IP, and "all will be well". Is this a good approach? I'm running pfSense firewalls in front of the machines. Quote from the above link: ip route add $VNET/N via $VIP or route add $VNET netmask w.x.y.z gw $VIP Thanks in advance. EDIT: @David Schwartz said it would make sense to add a route, so I tried adding a static route to the pfSense firewall, but that didn't work as I expected it would. pfSense route: Interface: LAN Destination network: 10.200.85.200/32 (virtual IP) Gateway: 10.200.85.100 (floating virtual IP) Description: Route to VIP .100 I also made sure I had packet forwarding enabled on my hosts: $ cat /etc/sysctl.conf net.ipv4.ip_forward=1 net.ipv4.ip_nonlocal_bind=1 Am I doing this wrong? I also removed all VIPs from the keepalived.conf so it only fails over 10.200.85.100.

• Linux wireless disconnect every 20 minutes

  My laptop uses CentOS 6.3 with kernel 2.6.32-279.el6.x86_64. My wireless adaptor is Intel Corporation Centrino Wireless-N 1000. My wireless connection always get off after about 20 minutes. The network applet shows the connection is still on with good signal strength, but I just cannot load any web pages even the configuration page of the wireless router. The problem will continue until I disable and reconnect the wireless. Other devices like my cell phone uses the same wireless network without the problem. Even yesterday I'm using the same laptop with Fedora 17 without this problem. I also searched the internet and someone said running services NetworkManager and network simultaneously may be a problem. But I cannot stop any one of them because: if I stop network and start NetworkManager, the network service will start automatically; if I stop NetworkManager and run network, it says "Device does not seem to be present, delaying initialization." when trying to bringing on the wireless. What shall I do to get rid of the problem? Thank you very much!

• VPS goes slow at more than 20 users online at the same time

  I have 512 MB VPS (brustable to 1GB) Somehow, the site goes slow when there are about 10 users, and becomes impossible to load at 20 users online at the same time. I wonder what could be the problem for this. The bandwidth connection of the VPS is 1Gbps.   Do you know of any agile process that is created for code releases? One of the main theme of agile is frequent releases and each company/client would have their own test/approval processes that control code releases. Most of the time these slow down the pace of "frequent releases" Currently we have a proprietary tool based workflow. The team who needs a code promotion needs to create a promotion request to one of the final UAT servers. Once this is complete, and once tests are done, certain customers, technical/non-technical managers need to approve, then it goes in to production deploy stage. Meanwhile no sprint planning meeting or anything of that sort. What is the code release process (Which is agile) that has worked for you?

• C++ defines for a 'better' Release mode build in VS

  I currently use the following preprocessor defines, and various optimization settings: WIN32_LEAN_AND_MEAN VC_EXTRALEAN NOMINMAX _CRT_SECURE_NO_WARNINGS _SCL_SECURE_NO_WARNINGS _SECURE_SCL=0 _HAS_ITERATOR_DEBUGGING=0 My question is what other things do fellow SOers use, add, define, in order to get a Release Mode build from VS C++ (2008,2010) to be as performant as possible? btw, I've tried PGO etc, it does help a bit but nothing that comes to parity, also I'm not using streams, the C++ i'm talking about its more like C but making use of templates and STL algorithms. As it stands now very simple code segments flop when compared to what GCC produces on say an equivalent x86 machine running linux (2.6+ kernel) using 02. Side-Note: I believe a lot of the issues relate directly to the STL version (Dinkum) provided by MS. Could people please elaborate on experiences using STLPort etc with VS C++.

  For slightly complicated reasons we tend to give people console access to VMs via the webui. This has worked fine in the past, however when the users update their client machines to Windows 7 (or Vista, I am told, although I have not tested that), then the console fails to work. On IE8, having allowed the ActiveX control, the tab causes a "Internet Explorer has stopped working" dialog. On Firefox 3.5 , once the plugin has been installed, using the console causes the browser to crash. I've updated to the most recent VC 2.5 release, and ESX 3.5u5. Anyone else seeing this? Any clues how to get round it (other than using the fat client). Nigel.

• Does maven-release-plugin push tags to remote Git repository?

  When using the maven-release-plugin with Git, mvn release:prepare happily tags the release in the local repository. I'd expect mvn release:perform to push the tags to the remote repository, but this doesn't seem to happen. Am I mistaken? If not, is there an option to enable pushing release tags to the remote repository?

  After updating SDK tools rev to 20, Android emulator doesn't take keyboard input from my desktop keyboard. When press a key of the desktop keyboard, the emulator will dead and I have to kill its process. Android emulator also didn't take keyboard input from emulator own keyboard. • How to delete from table if count is greater than 20

  Hi, I have a mysql table that I need to only contain 20 newest records before adding additional records. New rows are added daily so I would like it first delete any records that are greater than the 20 allowed starting with the earliest. The table contains an auto increment "id" column so I can easily determine which is the earliest records. Thanks for any help.
