  I have a freshly installed Ubuntu 12.04 x64 server and I installed Percona server from their official repositories. • Percona-server time out on /etc/init.d/mysql start

• Server Recovery from Denial of Service

  I'm looking at a server that might be misconfigured to handle Denial of Service. The database was knocked offline after the attack, and was unable to restart itself after it failed to restart when the attack subsided. Details of the Attack: The Attacker either intentionally or unintentionally sent 1000's of search queries using the applications search query url within a couple of seconds. I can't find where MAMP has set --skip-locking set, my.cnf doesnt have it anywhere. Activity monitor gives me a mysqld process running by me, and everytime i KILL the process both via Activity Monitor and via kill =9 pid it starts right back up.. Sampling the process points back to the MAMP mysqld.. wtf?! About to throw MAMP out the window and boot up a VM of CentOS =)

• Error compiling PHP 5.5.9 on CentOS 6.5 during make command

I am using Ansible to provision my instance. It is a Digital Ocean single core 512MB VM. I have been using vagrant / ansible with the same config locally for dev and it has compiled fine, this is the first cloud VM I am attempting to provision. The only difference is the base image for my DO server is coming from DO and for my local dev, I built my own Vagrant box via VirtualBox from a stock CentOS basic server install. I pull it down from my DropBox. • Building PHP For MacOS

  I was using XAMPP and decided to uninstall it and use MacOS' in-built apache and php modules. But while uninstalling XAMPP I deleted /usr/bin/php files and other PHP-CLI files accidentally. And I decided to install newest version of PHP (5.5.12) instead of rebuilding current version (5.4.24). Downloaded it and unzip. This line from my httpd.conf LoadModule php5_module libexec/apache2/libphp5.so /usr/libexec/apache2/libphp5.so coming from old version and i couldn't ind libphp5.so for new version. • RHEL 5.3 Kickstart - How specify location of individual package in Workstation folder?

  I keep getting "package does not exist" errors during the install. I made a kickstart ISO to create an unattended install of a RHEL 5.3 build machine for C++ software releases. It pulls the kickstart config file from our internal web server. This is handy; it makes it easy to test and modify without having to make a new ISO. And I plan to check it in to version control if I can get it working. Anyway, the rpm packages are located in two folders on the disk; Client and Workstation. The packages install fine for the ones that are physically located under the Client folder. It cannot find those under the Workstation folder such as as doxygen and subversion complaining that packages do not exist. • lighttpd: why using port >= 9000 does not work properly

  I had a lighttpd server which works normally. I can access this website from outside(non-localhost) via http://vm.aaa.com:8080. Let's just assume that it's a simple static website, without php or mysql. Now I want to copy this website as a test one(using another port) in the same machine. And I do not want to use virtual host. So I just copy the whole files of original server, including lighttpd's bin/ conf/ htdocs/ lib/ and so on folders. And I made some required change, including changing lighttpd.conf. Now what I'm confused is, if change the port to a number that is less than 9000, it works perfectly. But if the port is changed to a number that is equal or greater than 9000, lighttpd can start, but I can not access the new website from outside, while I do can access the new website from INSIDE(I mean in the same LAN or localhost). • De-duplicating backup tool on a block basis? [closed]

  I am looking for an (ideally free as in speech or beer) backup tool for Unix-like OS which can store deduplicated backups, i.e. only nonredundant content takes up additional space. I already looked at dirvish (my first candidate) and rsnapshot which use hardlinks to achieve deduplication on a per-file level. However, as I want to back up large files (Thunderbird mailboxes 3GB, VMware images 10GB), such file are stored again entirely even if just a few bytes change. Then there are rsync-based tools like rdiff-backup which only store deltas and a current mirror. However, as the deltas are generated against each previous mirror, it is difficult to fine-tune the retention granularity (only keep one backup after a week, etc.) because the deltas would have to be re-evaluated. Another approach is to partition content into blocks and store each block only if it is not stored yet, otherwise just linking it to the first occurrence. The only tool I know of that does this by now is obnam (http://liw.fi/obnam), and it even supports zlib-compression and gpg-encryption -- nice! But it is very slow, AFAICT. Does any one know any other, solid backup software which supports deduplication on a sub-file level, ideally with at least some management options (show/select/delete generations...)?

• Mysqld shutting down by itself

  I'm running a Wordpress Blog that gets medium-high traffic. It is hosted in an Ubuntu Server 2GB Memory 2 Core Processor 40GB SSD Disk, 3TB Transfer. The problem is that MySQL shuts down by itself after an hour or two. I had to restart mysql each and every time this happens. Then run ./configure again. Just a shot in the dark - I've seen some GNU automake stuff still listening to its "cached" version of the results or something. Still no solution. I don't know why it can't recognize the library though it is installed I opened configure to see where the program looked for the library. • Convert old AVI files to a modern format

  Hi, we have a collection of old home videos that were saved in AVI format a long time ago. I want to convert these files to a more modern format because the Totem Movie Player that comes with Ubuntu 10.4 seems to be the only program capable of playing them. The files seem to be encoded with a MJPEG codec, and playing them in VLC or Windows Media Player plays only the sound but there is no video. Avidemux was able to open the files, but the quality of the video is severely degraded: The video skips frames and is interlaced (it's not interlaced when playing it in Totem). Neither ffmpeg nor mencoder seems to be able to read the video stream. mencoder reports that it is using ffmpeg's codec.   Hi, I'm currently writing a small python app that embeds cherrypy and django using py2app. It worked well until I tried to include pyobjc in my project, since my app needed a small GUI (which consists of a small icon in the top menu bar + a drop down menu). Did find: /Users/denis/tlon/standalone/mac/dist/django_cherry.app/Contents/Resources/lib/python2.6/lib-dynload/CoreFoundation/_inlines.so: mach-o, but wrong architecture I did a quick : sudo port -u install py26-pyobjc +universal but for some reason macports tries to build openssl, with which compilation fails each time. It seems the problem is related to zLib - this is what appears in the logs : :info:build ld: warning: in /opt/local/lib/libz.dylib, file is not of required architecture ...And here is the output of file /opt/local/lib/libz.dylib : /opt/local/lib/libz.dylib: Mach-O universal binary with 2 architectures /opt/local/lib/libz.dylib (for architecture x86_64): Mach-O 64-bit dynamically linked shared library x86_64 /opt/local/lib/libz.dylib (for architecture i386): Mach-O dynamically linked shared library i386 Nothing looks wrong to me. I'm a bit stuck here. I don't even understand what openssl has to do with pyObjc, but it looks like I can't go anywhere if I don't manage to compile it. Macports really suck sometimes :/ EDIT I manage to fix Macports issue, but not py2app one. If I get it right, py2app try to create a 32-bits app, while Core Foundation files on Snow Leopard are for 64 bits architectures. Damn. Either I build this on Leopard, either I have to find a way to create a 64bit app with py2app, but then Snow Leopard only.

• php -i | find "extension_dir" don't take effect after modified its value

  i wanna using curl in php script and run it in command line mode. here is the script <?php //enable_dl("php_curl.dll"); $ch = curl_init(); $options=array( CURLOPT_URL=>"http://test.com/wp-content/themes/bluefocus/images/desc_img.jpg", CURLOPT_BINARYTRANSFER=>true, CURLOPT_VERBOSE=>true ); curl_setopt_array($ch,$options); $data = curl_exec($ch); $fp=fopen("test.jpg","w"); fwrite($fp,$data); curl_close($ch); ?> i run it in cmd with command php -i test.php the error message: D:\project>php get.php Fatal error: Call to undefined function curl_init() in D:\project\gals_curl_batch_download\get.php on line 3 phpinfo() in the webpage output shows curl has been enabled cURL support enabled cURL Information libcurl/7.19.4 OpenSSL/0.9.8k zlib/1.2.3 and here is the strange thing phpinfo() int the webpage output show, infact extension enabled in php.ini can be run in web page. the exact directory of the extension is under ./ext extension_dir ./ext ./ext but php -i | find "extension_dir" always show this and can't be modified with in php.ini file extension_dir => C:\php5 => C:\php5 restarted apache serveral times, keeps the same error. so i wonder why the value of extension_dir can't be modified. thx in advance.
