I'm using a classical javascript prototypal inheritance, like this:
function Foo() {}
Naknek.prototype = {
//Do something
};
var Foo = window.Foo = new Foo();
I want to know how I can improve this and why I can't use this model:
var Foo = window.Foo = new function() {
};
Foo.prototype = {
//Do something
};
Why this code doesn't work? In my head this is more logical than the classical prototypal inheritance.

Hello!
In my javascript i want to open URL in new window with this method:
var win = window.open(url...);
How can i check this, not to open the same window and lose all inputted data.
For example, if i opened "www.musite.com/addproduct" URL in new window, input data, leave my work place. then i click open window again, new window open and i lost all my data.
How can i achieve http://jdstiles.com/java/angledtext2.html this kind of angle(slant) using html , css and javascript. In design we have tabular structrer and by clicking on a tab the area beneath should refresh without reloading page (some thing like jquery or ajax).
I'm doing some research for a JavaScript project where the performance of drawing simple primitives (i.e. lines) is by far the top priority.
The answers to this question provide a great list of JS graphics libraries. While I realize that the choice of browser has a greater impact than the library, I'd like to know whether there are any differences between them, before choosing one.
Has anyone done a performance comparison between any of these?
In the scenario below, how can I get references to the variables declared during eval()?
function test() {
eval("var myVariable = 5");
var locals = magic() // TODO What should we do here?
alert(locals["myVariable"]); // returns myVariable
}
Just a note: JavaScript being evaluated comes from a trusted source.
My layout breaks if I change the window size in IE7/AOL, so I added a simple javascript function that fires on window.onresize, but no matter how I change the location I get problems.
It was suggested I post a link and here it is:
link text
I already use PHP to detect browser and include an IE7-only inline stylesheet (and for mobile browsers), and my page looks nearly identical to the way it does in FF, Opera, Chrome, Safari and IE8, but when I change the window size, some things go wonky, and come back into line if you refresh. Any advice is welcome :)
Is there is way to compress JavaScript code?
e.g.
function test(){
// some code here
}
after compression it should be
function test(){//some code here}
Also, I need vise versa at the time of editing the code.

Thank you.
I'm making a call to PayPal's credit card processor, and after a successful/unsuccessful transaction it returns me a string that looks like this:

How can I tell if a google bot is reading my javascript generated content?
I have an AJAX script that generates some text dynamically on a page... this content does not change by user, but simply by date/time.
I am not sure how I can tell if google sees it.
I am searching for an expression builder GUI (like the one used in Microsoft Access). It can be plain Javascript or JQuery plugin. I am loathe to build my own and reinvent the wheel if one already exists - and yet, a search on Google does not find anything remotely useful.
Is anyone aware of any such library/plugin or article that covers this?
In Python I can use the iterkeys() method to iterate over the keys of a dictionary. For example:
mydict = {'a': [3,5,6,43,3,6,3,],
'b': [87,65,3,45,7,8],
'c': [34,57,8,9,9,2],}
for k in mydict.iterkeys():
print k
gives me:
a
c
b
How can I do something similar in Javascript?
I am wondering how to do a simple Javascript log in for my web pages on my dev server. I want it to be very simple, like the ones that pop up when you go to 192.168.1.1 to adjust the settings on your Linksys router.
Any suggestions?

I'm trying to use the replace function in JavaScript and have a question.
strNewDdlVolCannRegion = strNewDdlVolCannRegion.replace(/_existing_0/gi, "existing" + "newCounter");
That works.
But I need to have the "0" be a variable.
I've tried:
_ + myVariable +/gi and also tried
_ + 'myVariable' + /gi
Could someone lend a hand with the syntax for this, please. Thank you.
I am struggling with methods in JavaScript.
obj = function(){
this.getMail = function getMail (){
}
//Here I would like to run the get mail once but this.getMail() or getMail() wont work
}
var mail = new obj();
mail.getMail();
How do I make the method in a way that I can run it both inside the object and from the outside
Thanks
Do you know a framework for making presentations using only HTML5 and javascript technologies?
I'm not talking about "export" features of various presentation software (powerpoint or OOo presentation).
Some requirements for the presentations made with this "framework":
take advantage of the latest HTML5 features (audio, video, canvas?)
same with CSS3 (font support, gradient, shadows, transitions and transformations)
If there's no such thing, example of good presentations or pointers on the subject would be appreciated.
Is there any way I can expose a C++ object/function to JavaScript running inside the QtWebKit browser in Qt? It's possible to expose ActionScript objects to JS code running inside the WebKit browser in Adobe AIR - I'm looking for similar functionality in Qt.
Hi,
I have a javascript function, I want it to be called programatically on init and later onClick event but its not getting called programatically but works ok with onClick.
The example would be:
function init() {
a();
}
init() is called on initialization which should call a() but thats not happening!
