  • Localizing concatenated or dynamic strings

    - by SooDesuNe
    I'm familiar with using NSLocalizedString() to localize strings, but the problem I have today requires a little more finesse. My situation is like this: NSString *userName; //the users name, entered by the user. Does not need localized NSString *favoriteFood; //the users favorite food, also entered by user, and not needing localized NSString *summary = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@'s favorite food is %@", userName, favoriteFood]; This works fine for english, but not every language uses the same word ordering as English, for example, a word-by-word translation of the same sentance from Japanese into English would read: UserName's favorite food pizza is Not to mention that 's is doesn't make a possessive in every language. What techniques are available for localizing this type of concatenated sentence?

  • How to add a pop-up menu to a NSToolbarItem?

    - by Rui Pacheco
    Hi, I'm trying to open a pop-up menu from a NSToolbarItem. I tried following this example but I can't use that class method because NSToolbar and NSToolbarItem inherit from NSObject and not from NSView. Apart from creating a custom view, what is the best way to open a pop-up menu from a NSToolbarItem?

  • Memory over-release problem when I am animating UIView

    - by Sheehan Alam
    I have enabled NSZombie's and I am getting the following message in my console when I am running my application: *** -[UIViewAnimationState release]: message sent to deallocated instance 0xf96d7e0 Here is the method that is performing the animation -(void)loadAvatar:(STObject*)st { NSAutoreleasePool * pool = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc] init]; avatar.alpha = 0; avatar.frame = avatarRectSmall; avatar.image = [ImageCache getMemoryCachedImageAtUrl:st.avatar_url]; [UIView beginAnimations:nil context:nil]; [UIView setAnimationDuration:.50]; avatar.frame = avatarRectNormal; [avatar setAlpha:1]; [UIView commitAnimations]; [pool release]; pool = nil; } I don't always get a crash, only sometimes. I'm wondering what is getting released?

  • Custom TableViewCell with TextField and first responder

    - by Robb
    I have a custom TableView cell that contains a TextField and I want it to become the first responder as soon as the view is shown but [textcell.textfield becomeFirstResponder] does not work. I know it's because it's a custom cell in another class and I even tried it there and it didn't work. Anyone know how to pull this off? Thanks...

  • How do I use a modalViewController Identically in Two Controllers?

    - by Theory
    I'm using the Three20 TTMessageController in my app. I've figured out how to use it, adding on a bunch of other stuff (including TTMessageControllerDelegate methods and ABPeoplePickerNavigationControllerDelegate methods). It works great for me, after a bit of a struggle to figure it out. The trouble I'm having now is a design issue: I want to use it identically in two different places, including with the same delegate methods. My current approach is that I've put all the code into a single class inheriting from NSObject, called ComposerProxy, and I'm just having the two controllers that use it use the proxy, like so: ComposerProxy *proxy = [[ComposerProxy alloc] initWithController:this]; [proxy go]; The go method constructs the TTMessageController, configures it, adds it to a UINavigationController, and presents it: [self.controller presentModalViewController: navController animated: YES]; This works great, as I have all my code nicely encapsulated in ComposerProxy and I need only the above two lines anywhere I want to use it. The downside, though, is that I can't dealloc the proxy variable without getting crashes. I can't autorelease it, either: same problem. So I'm wondering if my proxy approach is a poor one. How does one normally encapsulate a bunch of behaviors like this without requiring a lot of duplicate code in the classes that use it? Do I need to add a delegate class to my ComposerProxy and make the controller responsible for dismissing the modal view controller in a hypothetical composerDidFinish method or some such? Many TIA!

    this must be such a simple problem but can someone tell me why this doesnt work: visibilityString1 = @"the"; visibilityString2 = @"end"; visibilityString = (@"This is %@ %@", visibilityString1, visibilityString2); Every time I try to combine strings this way, it will only return the second string so what I get is: end

  • Memory leak for NSDictionary loaded by plist file

    - by Pask
    I have a memory leak problem that just can not understand! Watch this initialization method: - (id)initWithNomeCompositore:(NSString *)nomeCompositore nomeOpera:(NSString *)nomeOpera { if (self = [super init]) { NSString *pathOpere = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:kNomeFilePlistOpere ofType:kTipoFilePlist]; NSDictionary *dicOpera = [NSDictionary dictionaryWithDictionary: [[[NSDictionary dictionaryWithContentsOfFile:pathOpere] objectForKey:nomeCompositore] objectForKey:nomeOpera]]; self.nomeCompleto = [[NSString alloc] initWithString:nomeOpera]; self.compositore = [[NSString alloc] initWithString:nomeCompositore]; self.tipologia = [[NSString alloc] initWithString:[dicOpera objectForKey:kKeyTipologia]]; } return self;} Then this little variation (note self.tipologia): - (id)initWithNomeCompositore:(NSString *)nomeCompositore nomeOpera:(NSString *)nomeOpera { if (self = [super init]) { NSString *pathOpere = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:kNomeFilePlistOpere ofType:kTipoFilePlist]; NSDictionary *dicOpera = [NSDictionary dictionaryWithDictionary: [[[NSDictionary dictionaryWithContentsOfFile:pathOpere] objectForKey:nomeCompositore] objectForKey:nomeOpera]]; self.nomeCompleto = [[NSString alloc] initWithString:nomeOpera]; self.compositore = [[NSString alloc] initWithString:nomeCompositore]; self.tipologia = [[NSString alloc] initWithString:@"Test"]; } return self;} In the first variant is generated a memory leak, the second is not! And I just can not understand why! The memory leak is evidenced by Instruments, highlighted the line: [NSDictionary dictionaryWithContentsOfFile:pathOpere] This is the dealloc method: - (void)dealloc { [tipologia release]; [compositore release]; [nomeCompleto release]; [super dealloc];}

  • Dismissing UIImagePickerController from UITabBarController

    - by Dave
    I have a tab bar application whereby one tab uses a navigation controller to move through a series of views. On the final view, there is a button to add a photo, which presents a UIImagePickerController. So far, so good - however when I finish picking the image, or cancel the operation, the previous view is loaded, but without the tab bar. I'm sure I'm missing something elementary, but any suggestions on how to properly release the UIImagePickerController would be much appreciated. The code is as follows: ImagePickerViewController *aController = [[ImagePickerViewController alloc]; initWithNibName:@"ImagePickerViewController" bundle:[NSBundle mainBundle]]; [self presentModalViewController:aController animated:YES]; [aController release]; //viewDidLoad self.window = [[[UIWindow alloc] initWithFrame:[[UIScreen mainScreen] bounds]] autorelease]; imagePickerController = [[UIImagePickerController alloc] init]; imagePickerController.delegate = self; if([UIImagePickerController isSourceTypeAvailable: UIImagePickerControllerSourceTypeCamera]){ imagePickerController.sourceType = UIImagePickerControllerSourceTypeCamera; } else { imagePickerController.sourceType = UIImagePickerControllerSourceTypePhotoLibrary; } [window addSubview:imagePickerController.view]; //ImagePickerViewController imagePickerControllerDidCancel - FinalViewController is the last view in the stack controlled by a navigation controller which contains the button to present the UIImagePickerController [picker dismissModalViewControllerAnimated:YES]; FinalViewController *aController = [[FinalViewController alloc initWithNibName:@"FinalViewController" bundle:[NSBundle mainBundle]]; [picker presentModalViewController:aController animated:YES]; [aController release];

  • UIView Controller mysteriously getting deallocated

    - by Dan Ray
    I have a UINavigation scheme with a "welcome" page, a middle page, and a detail page. In the middle page, there's a segmented controller that can swap the main body of that page between a table, a calendar, and a MKMapView, each implemented with their own view controller classes. Today I implemented the MapView and its annotations and all of that. It's nice. And a detail disclosure on each callout takes you to the detail page just the same way as if you'd gotten there via the table. Lovely. I also have a right-button-bar button that pushes in a "search" view. From there you can search the data I'm navigating. When it's done filtering the data (an array of objects I'm keeping in a data singleton), it makes the table reload its data, and calls my annotation-clearer-and-builder methods on the map view, and then pops itself out, so the "middle" page (including whatever view was in the guts of it) is back on the screen. Problem is, if I go back and forth between the map and the search a couple times, any mention of the table view causes us to crash with: *** -[CALayer retain]: message sent to deallocated instance 0x710b810. (I obviously have NSZombies turned on.) I put an NSLog in the dealloc method of my table view controller. That thing's never getting called. I don't know if we're ditching it behind the scenes for memory purposes, or if I'm leaking it and can't get my hands back on it, or what. I'm sort of at a loss about where to look. Any hints?

  • Why I add the CGPoint in the NSMultable Array?

    - by Tattat
    I want to store my CGPoint to the NSMultable Array, so , I have method like this: [self.points addObject:CGPointMake(x, y)]; But I got the error, it said that : Incompatible type for argument 1 of "addObject". So, I check out the API, (void)addObject:(id)anObject anObject The object to add to the end of the receiver's content. This value must not be nil. So, I think the "CGPointMake" can make a Object, but it can't be assigned. What happens?

  • Issue Passing NSMutableDictionary to Method

    - by roswell
    Hello all, I'm trying some basic iPhone programming -- all has been going well but recently I've hit a bit of a roadblock. I've got a chunk of code that's passing an NSMutableDictionary (amongst other things) to a method in another class: [self.shuttle makeAPICallAndReturnResultsUsingMode:@"login" module:@"login" query:credentials]; The NSMutableArray credentials is previously defined a bit above as such: NSMutableDictionary *credentials = [[NSMutableDictionary alloc] init]; [credentials setObject:username forKey:@"username"]; [credentials setObject:password forKey:@"password"]; The method that receives it looks like such: -(id)makeAPICallAndReturnResultsUsingMode:(NSString *)mode module:(NSString *)module query:(NSMutableDictionary *)query From debugging I have determined that the code works fine up until this point within the above method: [query setObject:self.sessionID forKey:@"session_id"]; At this point, the application terminates -- the Console informs me of this exception: * Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: '* -[NSCFDictionary setObject:forKey:]: method sent to an uninitialized mutable dictionary object' This leads me to believe that I must initialize NSMutableDictionary in some way in my new method before I can access it, but I have no idea how. Any advice?

  • iPhone: Using plist to populate a grouped table

    - by Jack Griffiths
    Hi there, I was wanting to use a plist to populate my grouped table. I've had a look at the DrillDownSave sample project, and I'm still none-the-wiser. Although, I did learn that I could store hierarchies and suchlike in there. So here's the questions: How can I use my plist to add new items to my grouped table? I'm currently feeding the table with an array, and I've noticed that an array isn't going to be the best thing for me. When a user taps on an item in the plist, how can I push the view to the corresponding item? In other words, how can I push the view based on the selected row (which was generated by the plist) to it's next "view"? If that makes any sense, please reply. Thanks, Jack.

  • Adding libraries to a project in xcode - symbols not found

    - by kudorgyozo
    I am trying to make an iphone app in xcode that uses pjsip. The problem is I don't know how to link the libraries. I have the ARM version of the libraries in this folder in mac os x. /Users/kudorgyozo/pjsip_iphone In Xcode: I have specified the library and header search paths like this: for includes: /Users/kudorgyozo/pjsip_iphone/pjlib/include /Users/kudorgyozo/pjsip_iphone/pjlib-util/include /Users/kudorgyozo/pjsip_iphone/pjmedia/include /Users/kudorgyozo/pjsip_iphone/pjnath/include /Users/kudorgyozo/pjsip_iphone/pjsip/include for libraries: /Users/kudorgyozo/pjsip_iphone/pjlib/lib /Users/kudorgyozo/pjsip_iphone/pjlib-util/lib /Users/kudorgyozo/pjsip_iphone/pjmedia/lib /Users/kudorgyozo/pjsip_iphone/pjnath/lib /Users/kudorgyozo/pjsip_iphone/pjsip/lib and then using the "Other linker flags" : -lpj-arm-apple-darwin9 -lpjlib-util-arm-apple-darwin9 -lpjmedia-arm-apple-darwin9 -lpjmedia-audiodev-arm-apple-darwin9 -lpjmedia-codec-arm-apple-darwin9 -lpjsdp-arm-apple-darwin9 -lpjnath-arm-apple-darwin9 -lpjsip-arm-apple-darwin9 -lpjsip-simple-arm-apple-darwin9 -lpjsip-ua-arm-apple-darwin9 -lpjsua-arm-apple-darwin9 Is this OK like this? Because it gives me symbol(s) not found errors. I think no symbol is found from the "included" libraries. I don't know what is wrong i'm just beginning to understand how building an app works under linux based systems i've only done programming in C# before.

  • How to merge two FBOs?

    - by DevDevDev
    OK so I have 4 buffers, 3 FBOs and a render buffer. Let me explain. I have a view FBO, which will store the scene before I render it to the render buffer. I have a background buffer, which contains the background of the scene. I have a user buffer, which the user manipulates. When the user makes some action I draw to the user buffer, using some blending. Then to redraw the whole scene what I want to do is clear the view buffer, draw the background buffer to the view buffer, change the blending, then draw the user buffer to the view buffer. Finally render the view buffer to the render buffer. However I can't figure out how to draw a FBO to another FBO. What I want to do is essentially merge and blend two FBOs, but I can't figure out how! I'm very new to OpenGL ES, so thanks for all the help.

  • obj-c problem setting array with componentsSeperatedByString

    - by Brodie4598
    I have a data source with about 2000 lines that look like the following: 6712,Anaktuvuk Pass Airport,Anaktuvuk Pass,United States,AKP,PAKP,68.1336,-151.743,2103,-9,A What I am interested in is the 6th section of this string so I want to turn it into an array, then i want to check the 6th section [5] for an occurrance of that string "PAKP" Code: NSBundle *bundle = [NSBundle mainBundle]; NSString *airportsPath = [bundle pathForResource:@"airports" ofType:@"dat"]; NSData *data = [NSData dataWithContentsOfFile:airportsPath]; NSString *dataString = [[[NSString alloc] initWithData:data encoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding] autorelease]; NSArray *dataArray = [dataString componentsSeparatedByString:@"\n"]; NSRange locationOfAirport; NSString *workingString = [[NSString alloc]initWithFormat:@""]; NSString *searchedAirport = [[NSString alloc]initWithFormat:@""]; NSString *airportData = [[NSString alloc]initWithFormat:@""]; int d; for (d=0; d < [dataArray count]; d=d+1) { workingString = [dataArray objectAtIndex:d]; testTextBox = workingString; //works correctly NSArray *workingArray = [workingString componentsSeparatedByString:@","]; testTextBox2 = [workingArray objectAtIndex: 0]; //correctly displays the first section "6712" testTextBox3 = [workingArray objectAtIndex:1] //throws exception index beyond bounds locationOfAirport = [[workingArray objectAtIndex:5] rangeOfString:@"PAKP"]; } the problem is that when the workingArray populates, it only populates with a single object (the first component of the string which is "6712". If i have it display the workingString, it correctly displays the entire string, but for some reason, it isn't correctly making the array using the commas. i tried it without using the data file and it worked fine, so the problem comes from how I am importing the data. ideas?

  • How to detect if certain characters are at the end of an NSString?

    - by Sheehan Alam
    Let's assume I can have the following strings: "hey @john..." "@john, hello" "@john(hello)" I am tokenizing the string to get every word separated by a space: [myString componentsSeparatedByString:@" "]; My array of tokens now contain: @john... @john, @john(hello) For these cases. How can I make sure only @john is tokenized, while retaining the trailing characters: ... , (hello) Note: I would like to be able to handle all cases of characters at the end of a string. The above are just 3 examples.

  • What's a good way to remove all of the subviews of a UIScrollView?

    - by Moshe
    I have a scroll view and I need to reload the contents often while my app is running. Right now, I'm using the following line of code to remove the subviews before adding them back again: [scrollView.subviews makeObjectsPerformSelector:@selector(removeFromSuperview)]; Should I be using the following instead? scrollView.subviews = nil; For some reason, the (first) above line of code seems to crash the app every 16 times it is run. Am I leaking memory somewhere? The following method takes an array of views, the scroller (which is a constant) and the direction. Edit: - (void)loadViews:(NSArray *)views IntoScroller:(UIScrollView *)scroller withDirection:(NSString *)direction{ //Set up the scrollView [scrollView.subviews makeObjectsPerformSelector:@selector(removeFromSuperview)]; if([direction isEqualToString:@"horizontal"]){ scrollView.frame = CGRectMake(0, 0, 1024, 768); scrollView.contentSize = CGSizeMake(scrollView.frame.size.width * [[NSNumber numberWithUnsignedInt:[views count]] floatValue], scrollView.frame.size.height); }else if([direction isEqualToString:@"vertical"]){ scrollView.frame = CGRectMake(0, 0, 1024, 768); scrollView.contentSize = CGSizeMake(scrollView.frame.size.width, scrollView.frame.size.height * [[NSNumber numberWithUnsignedInt:[views count]] floatValue]); } for (int i=0; i<[[NSNumber numberWithUnsignedInt:[views count]] intValue]; i++) { [[[views objectAtIndex:[[NSNumber numberWithInt:i] unsignedIntValue]] view] setFrame:scrollView.frame]; if([direction isEqualToString:@"horizontal"]){ [[[views objectAtIndex:[[NSNumber numberWithInt:i] unsignedIntValue]] view] setFrame:CGRectMake(i * [[views objectAtIndex:[[NSNumber numberWithInt:i] unsignedIntValue]] view].frame.size.width, 0, scrollView.frame.size.width, scrollView.frame.size.height)];//CGRectMake(i * announcementView.view.frame.size.width, -scrollView.frame.origin.x, scrollView.frame.size.width, scrollView.frame.size.height)]; }else if([direction isEqualToString:@"vertical"]){ [[[views objectAtIndex:[[NSNumber numberWithInt:i] unsignedIntValue]] view] setFrame:CGRectMake(0, i * [[views objectAtIndex:[[NSNumber numberWithInt:i] unsignedIntValue]] view].frame.size.height, scrollView.frame.size.width, scrollView.frame.size.height)]; } [scrollView addSubview:[[views objectAtIndex:[[NSNumber numberWithInt:i] unsignedIntValue]] view]]; } }

I want to convert that format into yyyy-MM-dd it should be in string. but while doing so. I got null values.
