  • Points in CSS specificity

    - by Sam
    Researching specificity I stumbled upon this blog - http://www.htmldog.com/guides/cssadvanced/specificity/ It states that specificity is a point-scoring system for CSS. It tells us that elements are worth 1 point, classes are worth 10 points and IDs are worth 100 points. It also goes on top say that these points are totaled and the overall amount is that selector's specificity. For example: body = 1 point body .wrapper = 11 points body .wrapper #container = 111 points So, using these points surely the following CSS and HTML will result in the text being blue: CSS: #a { color: red; } .a .b .c .d .e .f .g .h .i .j .k .l .m .n .o { color: blue; } HTML: <div class="a"> <div class="b"> <div class="c"> <div class="d"> <div class="e"> <div class="f"> <div class="g"> <div class="h"> <div class="i"> <div class="j"> <div class="k"> <div class="l"> <div class="m"> <div class="n"> <div class="o" id="a"> This should be blue. </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> RESULT: http://jsfiddle.net/hkqCF/ Why is the text red when 15 classes would equal 150 points compared to 1 ID which equals 100 points?

  • How can I show a div, then hide the other divs when a link is clicked?

    - by Abriel
    I am right now trying to hide six divs while showing only one of the divs. I've tried JavaScript and in jQuery, but nothing seems to work! Click here to get to the website. I would like to know if it has to do with my CSS, jQuery, or the HTML. Or is there an easier way of doing this? HTML: <div id="resourceLinks"> <a href="#" name="resource" id="resource1">General&nbsp;Information</a><br /> <a href="#" name="resource" id="resource2">Automatic&nbsp;401(k)</a><br /> <a href="#" name="resource" id="resource3">Consumer&nbsp;Fraud</a><br /> <a href="#" name="resource" id="resource4">Direct&nbsp;Deposit</a><br /> <a href="#" name="resource" id="resource5">Diversity</a><br /> <a href="#" name="resource" id="resource6">Women</a><br /> <a href="#" name="resource" id="resource7">Young&nbsp;Adults&nbsp;(20s&nbsp;-&nbsp;40s)</a> </div> <div id="resource1></div> <div id="resource2></div> <div id="resource3></div> <div id="resource4></div> <div id="resource5></div> <div id="resource6></div> <div id="resource7></div> CSS: #resource1, #resource2, #resource3, #resource4, #resource5, #resource6, #resource7 { position: absolute; margin-left: 400px; margin-top: -10px; width: 300px; padding-bottom: 120px; } #resourceLinks { position: fixed; margin-left: -450px; z-index: 3; margin-top: 180px; font-size: 16px; } jQuery: $(document).ready(function(){ $('#resourceLinks a').click(function (selected) { var getName = $(this).attr("id"); var projectImages = $(this).attr("name"); $(function() { $(".resource").hide().removeClass("current"); $("#" + projectImages ).show("normal").addClass("current"); }); }); });

  • Ajax, php, mysql not working mysql limit

    - by Hofmeister Ákos
    I have 3 files. list.php $articles = $mysqli->query("SELECT mainPictureBig, title, writer, writeDate, link FROM articles WHERE category=$this->category ORDER BY writeDate DESC LIMIT 0,10"); while($article = mysqli_fetch_row($articles)) { echo "<a href=\"".$this->url."/".$article[3]."/".$article[4]."\"><div id=\"listElement\"> <div id=\"listElementWallpaper\" style=\"background-image: url('category/img.jpg');\"></div> <div id=\"listElementContent\"><div id=\"listElementTitle\">".$article[1]."</div>".$this->giveWriter($article[2]).", ".$this->giveDate($article[3])."</div> </div></a>"; } $maximumElements=ceil($numberOfContent / 10) * 10; It's working, so there is no problem, it lists the first 10 elements from the sql table, and i got the $numberOfCOntent part also. Than i have a button: echo "<div id=\"listMore\"><div id=\"buttonOne\" onclick=\"listMore($this->category,$maximumElements)\">Load more</div></div>"; There is also no problem, i load the .js file, and it looks like: var from = 10; function listMore(categoryId, maximum) { $( "#listMore" ).slideUp( 200, function() { $( "#listMore" ).html("<center>Loading..</center>"); $( "#listMore" ).slideDown( 500, function() { $.post( "http://localhost/ajax.php", {type: "listMore", id: categoryId, sqlFrom: from} ) .done(function( elements ) { $("#listBody").append( elements ); if(maximum > from+10) { from = from+10; $( "#listMore" ).slideUp(200, function() { $( "#listMore" ).html("<div id=\"buttonOne\" onclick=\"listMore("+categoryId+","+maximum+")\">Load more</div>"); $( "#listMore" ).slideDown(200); }); } else $( "#listMore" ).slideUp(200); }); }); }); } And it's also working, and the problem is in the PHP file. As you can see, i'm sending an integer the "from" variable, the PHP file: $articles = $mysqli->query("SELECT mainPictureBig, title, writer, writeDate, link FROM articles WHERE category=$id ORDER BY writeDate DESC LIMIT $from,10"); It's also working, but not loading the next 10, only the next 9. So it skips the very next row and loads the rows only after the very first, so only 9. I tried to write here only the important part of the code, so i skipped some echo part etc. Any idea?

  • What products support 3-digit region subtags, e.g., es-419 for Latin-American Spanish?

    - by Ektron Doug D
    What products support 3-digit region subtags, e.g., es-419 for Latin-American Spanish? Are web browsers, translation tools and translators familiar with these numeric codes in addition to the more common "es" or "es-ES"? I've already visited the following pages: W3C Choosing a Language Tag W3C Language tags in HTML and XML RFC 5646 Tags for Identifying Languages Microsoft National Language Support (NLS) API Reference

  • DotNetNuke will not save from editor

    - by Staffan
    A DNN site version 05.02.00(275) When editing a HTML module the following happens: If I make the changes and save before the cookie "portalaliasid" expires (within 1 minute) all is well. BUT if I stay in the editor for a longer time, say 2 minutes, and posting I end up at the editor again with the old content. All my previous work is lost. Now I'm lost - is this a bug, a bad setting or what? /Staffan

  • How can I test potentially browser crashing javascript

    - by yaya3
    I've been having a crack at some of the problems over at http://projecteuler.net/ with JavaScript. I've been using a simple html page and running my code in script tags so I can log my results in the browsers' console. When experimenting with loops I sometimes cause the browser to crash. Is there a better environment for me to do this kind of development?

  • Advantages/disadvantages of browser-based interface vs. graphics

    - by Josh
    Hello everyone, I'm in the design phase for a desktop-based application. Because of the nature of this particular application, I believe it would benefit greatly from a web-based approach (i.e., allowing a user to interface with the application through a browser running in kiosk mode) in order to leverage the simplicity of HTML/CSS/JS and the availability of many great JS interface plugins. Does taking this approach (rather than coding in a native or cross-platform graphics library) come with any gotchas?

  • CSS three column layout, liquid center, no left-margin!

    - by moontear
    Hi, I am all in favor of CSS based layouts, but this one I just can't figure out. With a table it is oh-so-easy: <html> <head><title>Three Column</title></head> <body> <p>Test</p> <table style="width: 100%; border: 1px solid black; min-height: 300px;"> <tr> <td style="border: 1px solid green;" colspan="3">Header</td> </tr> <tr> <td style="border: 1px solid green; width: 150px;" rowspan="2">Left</td> <td style="border: 1px solid yellow;">Content</td> <td style="border: 1px solid blue; width: 200px;" rowspan="2">Right</td> </tr> <tr> <td style="border: 1px solid fuchsia;">Additional stuff</td> </tr> <tr><td style="border: 1px solid green;" colspan="3">Footer</td></tr> </body> <html> Left is fixed width Right is fixed width Content is liquid Additional stuff sits beneath content Now here is the important part: "Left" may not exist. Again this is easy with the table. Delete the column and "Content" expands. Beautiful. I have looked through many examples (and "holy grails") of liquid and table less three-column CSS based layouts, but I have not found one which is not using some kind of margin-left for the middle column ("Content"). Any margin-left will suck once "Left" is gone as "Content" will just stay at it's place. I'm just about to switch to old school table based layout for this problem, so I'm hoping someone has some idea - I don't care about excess markup, wrappers and the like, I would just like to know how to solve this with plain CSS. Btw: look at how easy equal height columns are... Cheers PS: No CSS3 please

  • FTP List format

    - by Yvan JANSSENS
    Hi, I'm writing an embedded ftp server, and I cannot get the listing format correctly. The server works completely, only programs like FileZilla cannot interpret the listing format. Here's a sample listing: -rwxr--r-- 1 owner group 640 1970 01 01 test -rwxr--r-- 1 owner group 13440 1970 01 01 test.html -rwxr--r-- 1 owner group 512 1970 01 01 test2.txt Which is basically: permissions[tab]number?[tab]owner[tab]group[tab]filesize[tab]date[tab]filename What am I doing wrong? Thanks, Yvan

  • Java NIO (Netty): Exceptionhandling in Downstream Hanlders/Chain

    Hello Experts, could someone please explain to me, how in netty "Downstream Exceptions" are handeled? According to the javadoc there are no Downstream exceptions: http://docs.jboss.org/netty/3.1/api/org/jboss/netty/channel/ExceptionEvent.html Given the case that in one of my downstream handlers an exception occures OR in the I/0 Thread itself, where can these errors be catched and handeled? thank you very much tom

  • Can't get InputStream read to block...

    - by mark dufresne
    I would like the input stream read to block instead of reading end of stream (-1). Is there a way to configure the stream to do this? Here's my Servlet code: PrintWriter out = response.getWriter(); BufferedReader in = request.getReader(); try { String line; int loop = 0; while (loop < 20) { line = in.readLine(); lgr.log(Level.INFO, line); out.println("<" + loop + "html>"); Thread.sleep(1000); loop++; // } } catch (InterruptedException ex) { lgr.log(Level.SEVERE, null, ex); } finally { out.close(); } Here's my Midlet code: private HttpConnection conn; InputStream is; OutputStream os; private boolean exit = false; public void run() { String url = "http://localhost:8080/WebApplication2/NewServlet"; try { conn = (HttpConnection) Connector.open(url); is = conn.openInputStream(); os = conn.openOutputStream(); StringBuffer sb = new StringBuffer(); int c; while (!exit) { os.write("<html>\n".getBytes()); while ((c = is.read()) != -1) { sb.append((char) c); } System.out.println(sb.toString()); sb.delete(0, sb.length() - 1); try { Thread.sleep(1000); } catch (InterruptedException ex) { ex.printStackTrace(); } } os.close(); is.close(); conn.close(); } catch (IOException ex) { ex.printStackTrace(); } } I've tried InputStream.read, but it doesn't block either, it returns -1 as well. I'm trying to keep the I/O streams on either side alive. I want the servlet to wait for input, process the input, then send back a response. In the code above it should do this 20 times. thanks for any help

  • Split a string in python taking care of quotes

    I want to extract key value pairs of some form elements in a html page for example name="frmLogin" method="POST" onSubmit="javascript:return validateAndSubmit();" action="TG_cim_logon.asp?SID=^YcMunDFDQUoWV32WPUMqPxeSxD4L_slp_rhc_rNvW7Fagp7FgH3l0uJR/3_slp_rhc_dYyJ_slp_rhc_vsPW0kJl&RegType=Lite_Home" is there any method using which I can safely get the key and value pairs. I tried using splitting by spaces and then using '=' characters but string inside quotes can also have '='. is there any different kind of split method which can also take care of quotes?

  • make textarea fullscreen jquery (for use as code editor)

    - by Jorre
    I have a text area in which users can type source code (html/css/js). I want to be able to let them click a "switch to fullscreen" link to make the editor fullscreen. Of course, this should work on any resolution and must also resize when a users resizes it's window. I found this plugin, http://plugins.jquery.com/project/fulltextarea, but it's not resizing when the browser windows is resized. Any tips or plugins for this one?

  • Backbone events not firing (this.el undefined) & general feedback on use of the framework

    - by Leo
    I am very new to backbone.js and I am struggling a little. I figured out a way to get data from the server (in json) onto the screen successfully but am I doing it the right/best way? I know there is something wrong because the only view which contains a valid this.el is the parent view. I suspect that because of this, the events of the view are not firing ()... What is the best way forward? Here is the code: var surveyUrl = "/api/Survey?format=json&callback=?"; $(function () { AnswerOption = Backbone.Model.extend({}); AnswerOptionList = Backbone.Collection.extend({ initialize: function (models, options) { this.bind("add", options.view.render); } }); AnswerOptionView = Backbone.View.extend({ initialize: function () { this.answerOptionList = new AnswerOptionList(null, { view: this }); _.bindAll(this, 'render'); }, events: { "click .answerOptionControl": "updateCheckedState" //does not fire because there is no this.el }, render: function (model) { // Compile the template using underscore var template = _.template($("#questionAnswerOptionTemplate").html(), model.answerOption); $('#answerOptions' + model.answerOption.questionId + '>fieldset').append(template); return this; }, updateCheckedState: function (data) { //never hit... } }); Question = Backbone.Model.extend({}); QuestionList = Backbone.Collection.extend({ initialize: function (models, options) { this.bind("add", options.view.render); } }); QuestionView = Backbone.View.extend({ initialize: function () { this.questionlist = new QuestionList(null, { view: this }); _.bindAll(this, 'render'); }, render: function (model) { // Compile the template using underscore var template = _.template($("#questionTemplate").html(), model.question); $("#questions").append(template); //append answers using AnswerOptionView var view = new AnswerOptionView(); for (var i = 0; i < model.question.answerOptions.length; i++) { var qModel = new AnswerOption(); qModel.answerOption = model.question.answerOptions[i]; qModel.questionChoiceType = ChoiceType(); view.answerOptionList.add(qModel); } $('#questions').trigger('create'); return this; } }); Survey = Backbone.Model.extend({ url: function () { return this.get("id") ? surveyUrl + '/' + this.get("id") : surveyUrl; } }); SurveyList = Backbone.Collection.extend({ model: Survey, url: surveyUrl }); aSurvey = new Survey({ Id: 1 }); SurveyView = Backbone.View.extend({ model: aSurvey, initialize: function () { _.bindAll(this, 'render'); this.model.bind('refresh', this.render); this.model.bind('change', this.render); this.model.view = this; }, // Re-render the contents render: function () { var view = new QuestionView(); //{el:this.el}); for (var i = 0; i < this.model.attributes[0].questions.length; i++) { var qModel = new Question(); qModel.question = this.model.attributes[0].questions[i]; view.questionlist.add(qModel); } } }); window.App = new SurveyView(aSurvey); aSurvey.fetch(); }); -html <body> <div id="questions"></div> <!-- Templates --> <script type="text/template" id="questionAnswerOptionTemplate"> <input name="answerOptionGroup<%= questionId %>" id="answerOptionInput<%= id %>" type="checkbox" class="answerOptionControl"/> <label for="answerOptionInput<%= id %>"><%= text %></label> </script> <script type="text/template" id="questionTemplate"> <div id="question<%=id %>" class="questionWithCurve"> <h1><%= headerText %></h1> <h2><%= subText %></h2> <div data-role="fieldcontain" id="answerOptions<%= id %>" > <fieldset data-role="controlgroup" data-type="vertical"> <legend> </legend> </fieldset> </div> </div> </script> </body> And the JSON from the server: ?
