  • accessing required modules from other modules

    I have a bare-bone express application, exactly the one that is created with the express command. I have installed socket.io and attached it to my server, like this: var app = express(), server = http.createServer(app), io = io.listen(server); server.listen(8000); Now, I also have the routes files, which is called like this: app.get('/', routes.index); Inside this module I have the following function: exports.index = function(req, res){ socket.emit('news', { message: "foo" }); }; This obviously leads to a 500 reference error, because the routes file is an exportable module, and obviously has no idea what the socket is, as it is located in the app.js file. Is there a way I can access this socket object from this, or any other file? Please note that it is attached to the express generated app. extra: what about getting/setting session data?     I have created numerous polygon shapes in SVG format. and grouped them together. When the user hovers over the group a tooltip box appear. I have used ecmascript. What i am looking to do is make the tooltip box a multiline box.   • Does a program exist for checking two similar directories for file differences?

    Is there a program to compare one folder and all subfolders to another folder and all subfolders for differences in the files contained therein (presence, absence of files, size and list of filenames)? Example of usage: I have 100 DLL files from environment 1 and I want to check if any of them are different (in size and date modified) from the 100 DLL files in environment 2. So I copy and paste all the DLLs in environment 1 into directory A, and all the DLLs in environment 2 into directory B. I then run my "directory comparison" program on directories A and B and find out that, aha, here is a list of 7 DLLs that have different modified dates and times between the two directories.   • Clean way to display/hide a bunch of buttons based on a ComboBox selection

    I'm writing a standalone application in VB.NET using Visual Studio 2005. I want to display/hide a bunch of Buttons based on the selected value of a ComboBox. Each selection would have a different set of Buttons to display, and I'd like to have them arranged in a nice grid. Driving a TabControl with the ComboBox value would be the kind of behavior I want, but I don't want it to look like a TabControl to the user because it might be confusing. Is there a way to do this? Basically, I'd like Selection1 of the ComboBox to show Buttons 1-4, Selection2 to show Buttons 5-11, Selection3 to show (maybe) Buttons 1, 3, 5, 6, and 8, etc., have them arranged nicely, and have the GUI show only the ComboBox and the buttons.     I've got an application that keeps track of (for the sake of an example) what drinks are available at a given restaurant. My domain model looks like: class Restaurant { public IEnumerable<RestaurantDrink> GetRestaurantDrinks() { ... } //other various properties } class RestaurantDrink { public Restaurant Restaurant { get; set; } public Drink { get; set; } public string DrinkVariety { get; set; } //"fountain drink", "bottled", etc. //other various properties } class Drink { public string Name { get; set; } public string Manufacturer { get; set; } //other various properties } My db schema is (I hope) about what you'd expect; "RestaurantDrinks" is essentially a mapping table between Restaurants and Drinks with some extra properties (like "DrinkVariety" tacked on). Using Fluent NHibernate to set up mappings, I've set up a "HasMany" relationship from Restaurants to RestaurantDrinks that causes the latter to be deleted when its parent Restaurant is deleted. My question is, given that "Drink" does not have any property on it that explicitly references RestaurantDrinks (the relationship only exists in the underlying database), can I set up a mapping that will cause RestaurantDrinks to be deleted if their associated Drink is deleted?

  • Deployment of a .NET application making use of SQL Server 2008

    I have searched the internet thoroughly for this type of issue, there were responses but hasn't really found a concrete solution yet. I have an application which makes use of SQL Server 2008 R2 and thus it makes connections with a database file which I have set up. The application executes successfully, makes connections with the database and retrieves/inserts/updates data to and fro the database. However when I come to create a deployment project i.e. a setup project, I fail to transfer my database files to other computers and make database connections. I have checked the SQL Server 2008 prerequisite in the publish settings of the application and has also included the database files. Can anyone suggest the best way to this type of setup? Thanks

  • How are exceptions allocated on the stack caught beyond their scope?

    In the following code, the stack-based variable 'ex' is thrown and caught in a function beyond the scope in which ex was declared. This seems a bit strange to me, since (AFAIK) stack-based variables cannot be used outside the scope in which they were declared (the stack is unwound). void f() { SomeKindOfException ex(...); throw ex; } void g() { try { f(); } catch (SomeKindOfException& ex) { //Handling code... } } I've added a print statement to SomeKindOfException's destructor and it shows that ex is destructed once it goes out of scope in f() but then it's caught in g() and destructed again once it goes out of scope there as well. Any help?

  • Are Dynamic Prepared Statements Bad? (with php + mysqli)

    I like the flexibility of Dynamic SQL and I like the security + improved performance of Prepared Statements. So what I really want is Dynamic Prepared Statements, which is troublesome to make because bind_param and bind_result accept "fixed" number of arguments. So I made use of an eval() statement to get around this problem. But I get the feeling this is a bad idea.   • Is there a way to morph / convert a circular sprite into a square programmatically?

    I have a sprite which is basically just an image of a circle and some content inside. Is there a way that I can programmatically stretch / distort it into something like: I don't care so much about the distortion. The original circular image is 100x100px, and the modified image should also be 100x100px. So its really the content that is being distorted. Can this be done using shaders or some other programmatic way ? The initial circular image is most likely determined at run time, which is why I need to programmatically convert the circular sprite to square. Please do not edit the tags, as the question applies to both versions of cocos2d (iPhone & x), and the solution will most likely work in both regardless of whether one uses C or C++ since the apis are similar, and OpenGL commands work similarly.

    Hi all, I want to generate a matrix of NxN to test some code that I have where each row contains floats as the elements and has to add up to 1 (i.e. a row with a set of probabilities). Where it gets tricky is that I want to make sure that randomly some of the elements should be 0 (in fact most of the elements should be 0 except for some random ones to be the probabilities). I need the probabilities to be 1/m where m is the number of elements that are not 0 within a single row. I tried to think of ways to output this, but essentially I would need this stored in a C++ array. So even if I output to a file I would still have the issue of not having it in array as I need it. At the end of it all I need that array because I want to generate a Market Matrix file. I found an implementation in C++ to take an array and convert it to the market matrix file, so this is what I am basing my findings on. My input for the rest of the code takes in this market matrix file so I need that to be the primary form of output. The language does not matter, I just want to generate the file at the end (I found a way mmwrite and mmread in python as well) Please help, I am stuck and not really sure how to implement this.

    Background: I am customizing an existing ASP .NET / C# application. It has it's own little "framework" and conventions for developers to follow when extending/customizing its functionality. I am currently extending some of it's administrative functionality, to which the framework provides a contract to enforce implementation of the GetAdministrationInterface() method, which returns System.Web.UI.Control. This method is called during the Page_Load() method of the page hosting the GUI interface. Problem: I have three buttons in my GUI, each of which have been assigned an Event Handler. My administration GUI loads up perfectly fine, but clicking any of the buttons doesn't do what I expect them to do. However, when I click them a second time, the buttons work. I placed breakpoints at the the beginning of each event handler method and stepped through my code. On the first click, none of the event handlers are triggered. On the second click, they are triggered. Any ideas?   • DNS resolve without depending on router for asterisk system

    Hello, Basically I have a Debian box running asterisk assigned an IP via DHCP with host-name XXX. My windows browser can resolve the host-name but if I use host-name in X-Lite or my SPA922 phone it fails to resolve. Is there any way of getting this to work without depending on the router or assigning a static IP (request is to make it portable). I was thinking zero-conf but am unsure (box has limited HDD too). Any help is most appreciated.
