• ubuntu 12.04 LTS no sound

- by harlie
I just reinstalled ubuntu 12.04 from a DVD that came in the Ubuntu User magazine. I previously had 13.04 but had decided to revert back to the LTS. Now with 12.04 I have no sound when I try to play my music, I tried using Musique and also Rhythm Box they both show playing with the slider but no sound is heard except if the volume is all the way up you can hear a faint hiss or static. Any advice on how to fix this? Thanks Harlie

• Open Source HTML/JS game(s) with license that would allow embedding in my app?

- by DustMason
I'm working on an educational app for kids. At the end of the sign-up process, the kids must wait for a confirmation from their parents in order to gain access to the app. While they wait for this to happen, we want to let the kid play a simple game as a way to keep their interest up. Is there a marketplace or repository for games with such a license that we could either purchase (affordably) or use for free in our own app?

• "CLR Enabled" is not required to use CLR built-ins

- by AaronBertrand
Books Online articles referencing built-in CLR functions (such as FORMAT() ) have a remark similar to the following: "FORMAT relies on the presence of .the .NET Framework Common Language Runtime (CLR)." A lot of people seem to interpret this as meaning: "You must enable the sp_configure option 'CLR enabled' in order to use FORMAT()." Some then go on and suggest you run code similar to the following before you play with these functions: EXEC sp_configure 'show advanced options' , 1 ; GO RECONFIGURE...(read more)

• Search Engine Optimization Services For Your Business

In the beginning of the internet, if you talked about Ninja Turtles, it was likely that you could be found on the internet with little or no worry. Imagine if you will; standing on top of a small tower and looking down over a large number of people in any given area. If for example, you were looking for a Ninja Turtle, then you might be able to play "Where's Waldo" and spot one within the masses.

• Is there going to be a friendly Unity settings window?

- by Valorin
Currently, as far as I am aware, you need to use the CompizConfig Settings Manager application to play with the Unity configuration settings. While this makes sense, from a technical point of view, it requires the user to know about the settings manager, install it, and then find the Unity options within it. Not very user friendly. Is there a user friendly configuration application planned that will offer all the configuration options in an easy-to-use for new people fashion?

• Exporting spritesheet for Cocos2d

- by Terko
I would like to know how people usually save the animations in order to load them easily in Cocos2d with as few hard-code as possible. E.G. The solution I thought of is to have one plist file containing information about each frame, and the second plist to contain information about each of the animation(name of the animation, which frames to play, and the delay probably). If this is the correct solution, how can I generate such plist files for spritesheet automatically?

• Does Geany or Gedit provide a browser protocol in the way Textmate does with txmt://?

- by Rich
Textmate on the Mac can be bound to the txmt protocol, meaning that development frameworks (such as the Play Framework) can be configured to use this to display error messages. If a stacktrace appears, each line of the stacktrace is a URL of the format (I'm guessing): txmt:///home/myuser/projects/myproject/ProblemFile.java:123 (where 123 is the line number). Clicking this opens the file in Textmate. Is this possible with Gedit, Geany or another programmer's text editor?

• Nvidia R310 Drivers break Starcraft

- by user19192
I was originally using the latest proprietary Nvidia drivers from nvidia-current, after upgrading the new R310 drivers my system works fine, but Starcraft 2 won't run anymore. (I'm running it through play-on-linux) I get that the application has attempted to load the C runtime library incorrectly and that DirectX failed to initialize. Previously, executing echo 0|sudo tee /proc/sys/kernel/yama/ptrace_scope would fix the problem, but does no longer work. Any ideas? Or do I have to downgrade back to nvidia-current drivers.

• Which game engine for HTML5 + Node.js

- by Chrene
I want to create a realtime multiplayer game using and HTML5. I want to use node.js as the server, and I only need to be able to render images in a canvas, play some sounds, and do some basic animations. The gameloop should be done in the server, and the client should do callback via sockets to render the canvas. I am not going to spend any money on the engine, and I don't want to use cocos2d-javascript.

• Where can I find useful Maven documentation?

- by jprete
I don't have to play with Maven configuation often, but when I do, it's usually to do something odd, like use a build plugin that hasn't matured enough to be on the main Maven repositories. The Maven documentation that I find doesn't cover unusual use cases well and tends to assume you already know what you're doing. Where can I find really useful, well-written documentation on Maven that also covers the corner cases of usage?

• Question about design

- by lukeluke
Two fast questions about two design decisions: Suppose that you are checking collisions between game elements. When you find a collision between object 1 and object 2, do you play immediately a sound effect or do you insert it in a list and, in a later a stage, do you process all sound effects? Same question as above for user input. When the user presses key 'keypad left' do you insert the event in a queue and process it later or do you update character position immediately? Thx

• Android real time multiplayer over LAN

- by Heigo
I've developed several games for the android platform and now planning to create my first multiplayer game. What I have in mind is basically just a 2-player game witch you can play with 2 phones over local area connection/WiFi. Both phones need to be able to pass 3 integer values to the other phone in real time. So far I have considered using Socket's, but before I dig into it too deep I wanted to ask if there might be a better approach? Thanks!
