  Hello, I am starting to get a grip on RegEx thanks to all the great help here on SO with my other questions. But I am still suck on this one: My code is: StreamReader reader = new StreamReader(fDialog.FileName.ToString()); string content = reader.ReadToEnd(); reader.Close(); I am reading in a text file and I want to search for this text and change it (the X and Y value always follow each other in my text file): X17.8Y-1. But this text can also be X16.1Y2.3 (the values will always be different after X and Y) I want to change it to this X17.8Y-1.G54 or X(value)Y(value)G54 My RegEx statement follows but it is not working. content = Regex.Replace(content, @"(X(?:\d*\.)?\d+)*(Y(?:\d*\.)?\d+)", "$1$2G54"); Can someone please modify it for me so it works and will search for X(wildcard) Y(Wildcard) and replace it with X(value)Y(value)G54?   I have a text area and I want to store the text entered by user in database with html formatting like paragraph break, numbered list. I am using HTMLencode and HTMLdecode for this. Sample of my code is like this: string str1 = Server.HtmlEncode(TextBox1.Text); Response.Write(Server.HtmlDecode(str1)); If user entered text with 2 paragraphs, str1 shows characters \r\n\r\n between paragraphs. but when it writes it to screen, just append 2nd paragraph with 1st. While I'm decoding it, why doesn't it print 2 paragraphs?

• Change the null placeholder in a Cocoa binding?

  Is there a way to change (for the purpose of localization) the null placeholder in a binding in Cocoa? The bindings are set up in Interface Builder for a popup button. The two-way nature of the bindings as set up in IB is needed, so doing it programmatically is not really appealing. I am aware that the standard way of handling localizations of a nib file is by making one for each language, but since this is the only difference in the whole nib file between the language versions, it seems a bit excessive for a single string. If there is a way to modify a binding created in IB, I was thinning about doing it in the file's owner's awakeFromNib method.

My question is - will the old clients be able to just skip these new properties? and the new ones take advantage of them or will the serialization be an issue with the new properties? w://

• T-SQL Dynamic SQL and Temp Tables

  It looks like #temptables created using dynamic SQL via the EXECUTE string method have a different scope and can't be referenced by "fixed" SQLs in the same stored procedure. However, I can reference a temp table created by a dynamic SQL statement in a subsequence dynamic SQL but it seems that a stored procedure does not return a query result to a calling client unless the SQL is fixed. A simple 2 table scenario: I have 2 tables. Let's call them Orders and Items. Order has a Primary key of OrderId and Items has a Primary Key of ItemId. Items.OrderId is the foreign key to identify the parent Order. An Order can have 1 to n Items. I want to be able to provide a very flexible "query builder" type interface to the user to allow the user to select what Items he want to see. The filter criteria can be based on fields from the Items table and/or from the parent Order table. If an Item meets the filter condition including and condition on the parent Order if one exists, the Item should be return in the query as well as the parent Order. Usually, I suppose, most people would construct a join between the Item table and the parent Order tables. I would like to perform 2 separate queries instead. One to return all of the qualifying Items and the other to return all of the distinct parent Orders. The reason is two fold and you may or may not agree. The first reason is that I need to query all of the columns in the parent Order table and if I did a single query to join the Orders table to the Items table, I would be repoeating the Order information multiple times. Since there are typically a large number of items per Order, I'd like to avoid this because it would result in much more data being transfered to a fat client. Instead, as mentioned, I would like to return the two tables individually in a dataset and use the two tables within to populate a custom Order and child Items client objects. (I don't know enough about LINQ or Entity Framework yet. I build my objects by hand). The second reason I would like to return two tables instead of one is because I already have another procedure that returns all of the Items for a given OrderId along with the parent Order and I would like to use the same 2-table approach so that I could reuse the client code to populate my custom Order and Client objects from the 2 datatables returned. What I was hoping to do was this: Construct a dynamic SQL string on the Client which joins the orders table to the Items table and filters appropriate on each table as specified by the custom filter created on the Winform fat-client app. The SQL build on the client would have looked something like this: TempSQL = " INSERT INTO #ItemsToQuery OrderId, ItemsId FROM Orders, Items WHERE Orders.OrderID = Items.OrderId AND /* Some unpredictable Order filters go here */ AND /* Some unpredictable Items filters go here */ " Then, I would call a stored procedure, CREATE PROCEDURE GetItemsAndOrders(@tempSql as text) Execute (@tempSQL) --to create the #ItemsToQuery table SELECT * FROM Items WHERE Items.ItemId IN (SELECT ItemId FROM #ItemsToQuery) SELECT * FROM Orders WHERE Orders.OrderId IN (SELECT DISTINCT OrderId FROM #ItemsToQuery) The problem with this approach is that #ItemsToQuery table, since it was created by dynamic SQL, is inaccessible from the following 2 static SQLs and if I change the static SQLs to dynamic, no results are passed back to the fat client. 3 around come to mind but I'm look for a better one: 1) The first SQL could be performed by executing the dynamically constructed SQL from the client. The results could then be passed as a table to a modified version of the above stored procedure. I am familiar with passing table data as XML. If I did this, the stored proc could then insert the data into a temporary table using a static SQL that, because it was created by dynamic SQL, could then be queried without issue. (I could also investigate into passing the new Table type param instead of XML.) However, I would like to avoid passing up potentially large lists to a stored procedure. 2) I could perform all the queries from the client. The first would be something like this: SELECT Items.* FROM Orders, Items WHERE Order.OrderId = Items.OrderId AND (dynamic filter) SELECT Orders.* FROM Orders, Items WHERE Order.OrderId = Items.OrderId AND (dynamic filter) This still provides me with the ability to reuse my client sided object-population code because the Orders and Items continue to be returned in two different tables. I have a feeling to, that I might have some options using a Table data type within my stored proc, but that is also new to me and I would appreciate a little bit of spoon feeding on that one. If you even scanned this far in what I wrote, I am surprised, but if so, I woul dappreciate any of your thoughts on how to accomplish this best.

  Hi I'm writing a bash script which needs to convert a string to lowercase. The problem is I'm doing it on a mac so 'tr' is not available. How can I go about doing this on a mac? The problem I'm trying to tackle is that my script needs to recognize an if an extension is a .gif or a .jpg - and I don't want to have to check for .jpeg, .jPeg, .JPEG, .JPeg, etc etc etc... if there's a smarter way of doing this than just converting to lowercase and testing for gif, jpg and jpeg, i'm all ears :)

  I'm trying to identify and condense single (uppercase) characters in a string. For example: "test A B test" - "test AB test" "test A B C test" - "test ABC test" "test A B test C D E test" - "test AB test CDE test" I have it working for single occurrences (as in the first above example), but cannot figure out how to chain it for multiple occurrences. $str =~ s/ ([A-Z]) ([A-Z]) / \1\2 /g; I'll probably feel stupid when I see the solution, but I'm prepared for that.   Hi, I am wondering how I could create a custom data type to use within the rake migration file. Example: if you would be creating a model, inside the migration file you can add columns. It could look like this: def self.up create_table :products do |t| t.column :name, :string t.timestamps end end I would like to know how to create something like this: t.column :name, :my_custom_data_type The reason for this to create for example a "currency" type, which is nothing more than a decimal with a precision of 8 and a scale of 2.   I need to build a DSL Solution using MsBuild and want to be able to transform the TT files, I have tried the guide on http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee847423(VS.100).aspx but I am getting the following errors: Failed to resolve include text for file:{0} and also Loading the include file '{0}' returned a null or empty string. There is a page on MSDN which has these issues and there resolutions : http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb126242(VS.100).aspx but don't really give me enough information to resolve the issue. One thing to note in the error it has the following path: Error 72 Failed to resolve include text for file:C:\source\XXXXXXXX\Dsl\GeneratedCode\Dsl\ToolboxHelper.tt. Line=-1, Column=-1 Dsl but the location of the actual TT file is C:\source\XXXXXXXX\Dsl\GeneratedCode\ToolboxHelper.tt

  I have installed Ubuntu Server 10.10 and I am using it to host a domain that I have. I am trying to set up FTP for the server, but I am running into some problems. I have successfully installed vsFTPd and I have opened up ports 20, 21 on my firewall. In my vsFTPd configuration, I have enabled SSL. Every time I try to connect to my server via FTP, I receive a "Connection Refused" error. I have had a little more success with SSL disabled, however the connection process will time out after the LIST command (but it does accept my authentication). • NSString to NSData Failing in Encoding

  I'm trying to use NSXmlParser to parse ISO-8859-1 data. Using Apple's own example for parsing ISO-8859-1, I have the following. NSString *xmlFilePath = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:sampleFileName ofType:@"xml"]; NSString *xmlFileContents = [NSString stringWithContentsOfFile:xmlFilePath encoding:NSISOLatin1StringEncoding error:nil]; NSLog(@"contents: %@", xmlFileContents); I see that in the console, the contents of the string is accurate. However when I try to convert it to an NSData object (for use with the parser), I do the following. NSData *xmlData = [xmlFileContents dataUsingEncoding:NSISOLatin1StringEncoding]; But then when my didStartElement delegate gets called, I see  showing up which I think is from an encoding discrepancy. Can NSXmlParser handle ISO-8859-1 and if so, what am I doing wrong?

• loading multiple .mat files in MATLAB

  I have 110 files named time1.mat, time2.mat ..., time110.mat. I want to load these matrices into the MATLAB workspace. I have always used load -'ASCII' matrix.mat to load an ASCII matrix file in the current folder. So I tried doing for i=1:10 filename=strcat('time',int2str(i),'.mat'); load -'ASCII' filename end But I am getting a MATLAB error as ??? Error using ==> load Unable to read file filename: No such file or directory. ? Of course the string filename seems to be evaluated correctly by MATLAB as time1.mat. in the first iteration where it crashes at the load line. Any suggestions how I should do this?

• Connecting to a SQL Server Compact Edition (.sdf) from an MFC application

  Hey ! I'm building an MFC app in Visual Studio 2008 which classifies textures and I need some sort of lightweight database to hold the characteristics (just some doubles and strings) which can be: -carried around with the app on different computers; -be able to perform queries on it from the app (searches , updates ,inserts ,etc); Currently I'm looking into SQL compact edition because it was very easy to create from Visual Studio ( I also need only one table) but I having a hard time connecting and updating the db from C++. This is what I've found on msdn regarding C++ and SQLCE: public: void createSqlCeConnection(){ SqlCeConnection* myConnection = new SqlCeConnection(); myConnection->ConnectionString = "DataSource = blabla.sdf"; MessageBox::Show(String::Format( S"Connection State: {0}", __box(myConnection->State))); } Unfortunately my experience with .net apps is pretty limited.   Hello, I am trying to read command lien argument but it seems there is some kind of bug in .NET. The parameter which I pass to my console application /i "C:\Projects\PC\trunk\Simulator\PDF-Source\PDF-Source\bin\Debug\ConversionFiles\dummy.pdf" /o "result" CommandLine variable return three arguments, but I pass four and values of these arguments messed up. /i = true "C:\Projects\PC\trunk\Simulator\PDF-Source\PDF-Source\bin\Debug\ConversionFiles\dummy.pdf" = true /o = "result" As you see only the last argument is parsed corectlly.   It is actually useful for me to store some files in EXE to copy to selected location. I'm generating HTML and JS files and need to copy some CSS, JS and GIFs. Snippet System.IO.File.WriteAllBytes(@"C:\MyFile.bin", ProjectNamespace.Properties.Resources.MyFile); doesn't work for me! On "WriteAllBytes" it says: "cannot convert from 'System.Drawing.Bitmap' to 'byte[]'" for image and "cannot convert from 'string' to 'byte[]'" for text file. Help! UPDATE: Solved below.
