• Customized command line parsing in Python

  I'm writing a shell for a project of mine, which by design parses commands that looks like this: COMMAND_NAME ARG1="Long Value" ARG2=123 [email protected] My problem is that Python's command line parsing libraries (getopt and optparse) forces me to use '-' or '--' in front of the arguments. This behavior doesn't match my requirements. Any ideas how can this be solved? Any existing library for this?

• Go through a number of functions in Python

  I have an unknown number of functions in my python script (well, it is known, but not constant) that start with site_... I was wondering if there's a way to go through all of these functions in some main function that calls for them. something like: foreach function_that_has_site_ as coolfunc if coolfunc(blabla,yada) == true: return coolfunc(blabla,yada) so it would go through them all until it gets something that's true. thanks!

Must I really subject myself to number = number + 1? Doesn't people use the ++/-- notation? :-(

  I want to parse a html-page that unfortunately requires JavaScript to show any content. In order to do so I use a small python-script that pulls the html-code of the page, but after that I have to execute the JavaScript in a DOM-context which seems pretty hard. To make it even harder I want to use it in a server environment that has no X11-server. Note: I already read about http://code.google.com/p/pywebkitgtk/ but it seems to need a X-server.

I've an array (or list as it's said in pyton) like this: list = [ 'NICE dog' , 'blue FLOWER' , 'GOOD cat' , 'YELLOW caw'] As you see each element of this array contains some words. • Accessing MySQL server via VPN in python

  Hi I have a MySQL server that I need access through a VPN. I use MySQLdb package to access MySQL server in Python. When I can access the server without VPN, it works fine, but when I'm at certain locations, I need to connect through VPN. My computer is connected to the VPN and I can access the database through PHPMyAdmin, but MySQLdb gives me an error message: OperationalError: (2003, "Can't connect to MySQL server on 'MY_IP' (10061)") Any ideas on why it's not working?   (Using python 3.2 currently) I need to be able to: Run a command using subprocess Both stdout/stderr of that command need be printed to the terminal in real-time (it doesn't matter if they both come out on stdout or stderr or whatever At the same time, I need a way to know if the command printed anything to stderr (and preferably what it printed). I've played around with subprocess pipes as well as doing strange pipe redirects in bash, as well as using tee, but as of yet haven't found anything that would work.   Im using python to access a MySQL database and im getting a unknown column in field due to quotes not being around the variable. code below: cur = x.cnx.cursor() cur.execute('insert into tempPDBcode (PDBcode) values (%s);' % (s)) rows = cur.fetchall() How do i manually insert double or single quotes around the value of s? I've trying using str() and manually concatenating quotes around s but it still doesn't work. The sql statement works fine iv double and triple check my sql query.

• Counts of events grouped by date in python?

  This is no doubt another noobish question, but I'll ask it anyways: I have a data set of events with exact datetime in UTC. I'd like to create a line chart showing total number of events by day (date) in the specified date range. Right now I can retrieve the total data set for the needed date range, but then I need to go through it and count up for each date. The app is running on google app engine and is using python. What is the best way to create a new data set showing date and corresponding counts (including if there were no events on that date) that I can then use to pass this info to a django template? Data set for this example looks like this: class Event(db.Model): event_name = db.StringProperty() doe = db.DateTimeProperty() dlu = db.DateTimeProperty() user = db.UserProperty() Ideally, I want something with date and count for that date. Thanks and please let me know if something else is needed to answer this question!
