• FormEditor receiving NULL IEditorInput object

  Hi, I have extended IEditorInput class to define my own IEditorInput object. Furthermore, I have extended FormEditor class. I have view where I am displaying my application objects. Whenever user double clicks on items on view, I intend to display more details for this application object on the editor, which is a FormEditor. Problem I am facing is that I am receiving IEditorInput object as NULL inside extended FormEditor class. Can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong?   I'm having a look at Entity Framework and everything I'm reading takes a data centric approach to explaining EF. By that I mean that the fundamental relationships of the system are first defined in the database and objects are generated that reflect those relationships. Examples Quickstart (Entity Framework) Using Entity Framework entities as business objects? The EF documentation implies that it's not necessary to start from the database layer, e.g. Developers can work with a consistent application object model that can be mapped to various storage schemas When designing a new system (simplified version), I tend to first create a class model, then generate business objects from the model, code business layer stuff that can't be generated, and then worry about persistence (or rather work with a DBA and let him worry about the most efficient persistence strategy). That object centric approach is well supported by ORM technologies such as (n)Hibernate. Is there a reasonable path to an object centric approach with EF? Will I be swimming upstream going that route? Any good starting points?

  Say i create one object and add it to my ArrayList. If I then create another object with exactly the same constructor input, will the contain() method evaluate the two objects to be the same? Assume the constructor doesn't do anything funny with the input, and the variables stored in both objects are identical. • Do I correctly understand what a class is?

  I've had trouble finding a clear, concise laymans definition of a class. Usually, they give general ideas without specifically spelling it out, and I'm wondering if I'm understanding this correctly. As I understand it, a class is the set of code that controls an object. For example, in an app that has a button for 'Yes' and a button for 'No', and a text box for output, the code that tells the computer what to do when the user uses the Yes button is one class, the code for hitting No is another class, and an object is the two buttons and what they do together to influence the output box. Am I right, or am I confusing terms here? Thanks

  Say I have a list of words that need to retain their order, and need to be sorted into two columns. I can do this rather well with a tabular: \begin{tabular}{l l} abc & def \\ ghi & jkl \\ \end{tabular} But doing so makes it rather difficult and time consuming to reorder the list. Is it possible to have an automatically wrapped two-column list? Ideally, I would like to simply enter an ordered list: \begin{magic} abc \\ def \\ ghi \\ jkl \\ \end{magic} And have it wrapped to two columns (as the tabular enables): abc def ghi jkl

  We are following Domain Driven Design for the implementation of a large website. However by putting the behaviour on the domain objects we are ending up with some very large classes. For example on our WebsiteUser object, we have many many methods - e.g. dealing with passwords, order history, refunds, customer segmentation. All of these methods are directly related to the user. Many of these methods delegate internally to other child object but this still results in some very large classes. I'm keen to avoid exposing lots of child objects e.g. user.getOrderHistory().getLatestOrder(). What other strategies can be used to avoid this problems?

• MySQL: Count two things in one query?

  I have a "boolean" column in one of my tables (value is either 0 or 1). I need to get two counts: The number of rows that have the boolean set to 0 and the number of rows that have it set to 1. Currently I have two queries: One to count the 1's and the other to count the 0's. Is MySQL traversing the entire table when counting rows with a WHERE condition? I'm wondering if there's a single query that would allow two counters based on different conditions? Or is there a way to get the total count along side the WHERE conditioned count? This would be enough as I'd only have to subtract one count from the other (due to the boolean nature of the column). There are no NULL values. Thanks.

• Power Analysis in [R] for Two-Way Anova

  I am trying to calculate the necessary sample size for a 2x2 factorial design. I have two questions. 1) I am using the package pwr and the one way anova function to calculate the necessary sample size using the following code pwr.anova.test(k = , n = , f = , sig.level = , power = ) However, I would like to look at two way anova, since this is more efficient at estimating group means than one way anova. There is no two-way anova function that I could find. Is there a package or routine in [R] to do this? 2) Moreover, am I safe in assuming that since I am using a one-way anova power calculations, that the sample size will be more conservative (i.e. larger)?

• How to do manual DI with deep object graphs and many dependencies properly

  I believe this questions has been asked in some or the other way but i'm not getting it yet. We do a GWT project and my project leader disallowed to use GIN/Guice as an DI framework (new programmers are not going to understand it, he argued) so I try to do the DI manually. Now I have a problem with deep object graphs. The object hierarchy from the UI looks like this: AppPresenter-DashboardPresenter-GadgetPresenter-GadgetConfigPresenter The GadgetConfigPresenter way down the object hierarchy tree has a few dependencies like CustomerRepository, ProjectRepository, MandatorRepository, etc. So the GadgetPresenter which creates the GadgetConfigPresenter also has these dependencies and so on, up to the entry point of the app which creates the AppPresenter. Is this the way manual DI is supposed to work? doesn't this mean that I create all dependencies at boot time even I don't need them? would a DI framework like GIN/Guice help me here?

  I have a pre-existing c++ object model which represents the business layer tier of an application. I want to be able to expose the object model to applications written in other languages i.e vbscript, VB, javascript etc. I believe the best way of doing this is to wrap the business objects with a COM layer. What fast and effective methods are there for doing this. Any advice, links to practical "How to" documentation would be very much appreciated. Because I'm starting a bounty on this , here's a few extra guidelines for potential bounty hunters :- 1)I've decided on an ATL approach 2)I'm now specifically looking for links to really good "how to and quickly" documentation on wrapping a pre-existing c++ object model to make it useable by a scripting language like javascript 3) Something with small working examples showing me what code needs to be added to what files, e.g what goes into the cpp , idl and hpp/h etc. It' must include an example I can compile test and change to get a better understanding.

• Mandatory Parameters in Request object (WCF)

  lHi, I'm currently writing a WCF service. One of those methods get's a request object and returns a response object. In the request there are a couple of value-type members. Is there a way to define members are mandatory in the declarative way? I'm in an early stage of development and I don't want to start with versioning now. In addition I don't want to have method sig with 25 parameters, therefore I created the request object. The problem I have is that due to the value-types, I can never be sure if the consumer of the service intended to have the default value in there, or it was just by lazyness. On consumer side you don't easily detect that you probably missed that property. So I would like to have something that forces the caller of the service to provide an value, and if not he ideally get's a compile-time error. any ideas? tia, Martin

• Mimic an HTTPRequest and HTTPResponse object in Java

  How do I mimic an HTTPServletRequest and HTTPServletResponse object. The reason is I want to test the behaviour of some servlets. I know JUnit probably provides this functionality but I don't know how to use it (I will learn soon) and need to do this reasonably quickly. HTTPServletRequest and HTTPServletResponse are both interfaces so they can't be instantiated. There is a HttpServletRequestWrapper which implements HttpServletRequest but it doesn't seem to have any setParameter() type methods and HttpServletResponse doesn't seem to have any implementing classes at all. How can I test my code by passing a suitable HttpServletRequest object and then checking that the received HttpServletResponse object matches what I expect?

I tried to do it with this \multicols but it seems that floats (tables here) cannot be placed inside of it. Any ideas?

  Hi there, I am a little confused as to how to approach this SQL query. I have two takes (equal number of records), and I would like to return a column with which is the division between the two. In other words, here is my not-working-correctly query: SELECT( (SELECT v FROM Table1) / (SELECT DotProduct FROM Table2) ); How would I do this? All I want it a column where each row equals the same row in Table1 divided by the same row in Table2. The resulting table should have the same number of rows, but I am getting something with a lot more rows than the original two tables. I am at a complete loss. Any advice?
