  • Very slow wireless connection (unrelated to power management) using Netgear N150 WNA1100 in 12.04

    I am using a Netgear N150 WNA1100 USB Adapter. The network driver is: ath9k_htc. When I use Ubuntu 12.04 my wireless connection is much slower than when I use the WNA1100 with my Windows 7 installation on the same machine. I have been researching this and the most common reason for this seems to be related to power management. However for me this is off by default. I had entered a bunch of different commands and, at one stage, I got it to work at full power. But then I rebooted the machine and it went back to slow again. After entering the different commands I was afraid that I may have messed something up, so I performed a fresh install of Ubuntu. I still have the same problem. My wireless connection is still much slower when using Ubuntu than when using Windows 7. I am not sure what other info could help... EDIT: Ok, I have made live usb from the iso file I used to install Ubuntu on this pc, and ran it on my laptop. Still the same problem. However la[top works grand on cable. I suppose this means that my wireless adapter or network driver can be eliminated as root of the problem.. So maybe to do with router itself? I use ZyXEL P-660HW-D1

  • Which of these methods provides for the fastest page loading?

    I am building a database in MySQL that will be accessed by PHP scripts. I have a table that is the activity stream. This includes everything that goes on on the website (following of many different things, liking, upvoting etc.). From this activity stream I am going to run an algorithm for each user depending on their activity and display relevant activity. Should I create another table that stores the activity for each user once the algorithm has been run on the activity or should I run the algorithm on the activity table every time the user accesses the site? UPDATE:(this is what is above except rephrased hopefully in an easier to understand way) I have a database table called activity. This table creates a new row every time an action is performed by a user on the website. Every time a user logs in I am going to run an algorithm on the new rows (since the users last login) in the table (activity) that apply to them. For example if the user is following a user who upvoted a post in the activity stream that post will be displayed when the user logs in. I want the ability for the user to be able to access previous content applying to them. Would it be easiest to create another table that saved the rows that have already been run over with the algorithm except attached to individual users names? (a row can apply to multiple different users)

  • Need help with chronic slow wifi connections

    I have had chronic slow wifi connections on several networks for a while now, I think since my update to 12.04 when it came out. I have tried many of the tips and tricks already available out there in the forums with no luck (wicd, etc..). I want to see if any of you experts out there might be able to help me, and thanks in advance!! I use ubuntu 12.04 on a lenovo ideapad y650, and most networks I connect to lose the connection frequently or do not give appropriate bandwidth when I am connected.     Hello, I am coding a simple space empire management game in Visual C# 2008, which relies on connecting to a remote SQL server database to get/store data. I would like the user to be able to connect to a user-specified SQL server from the login screen(he specifies IP address, port, database name, ID, password and presses "connect" button). However, I found out that the Dataset connection string property is read only and cannot be changed. Is there any way to guide the wizard-generated DataSet to a user-specified server at run time?     When we installed TFS 2010, we made some poor decisions in naming our databases. I have figured out how to rename everything except for the Tfs_xxxConfiguration database. How can I get this renamed? I can only find a read-only display of the connection string to it - cannot find where to alter that connection string either directly or indirectly. I'd really prefer to not have to rebuild it from scratch... again... Thanks!

    I am trying to get Weblogic 9.2.3 to talk to a legacy RedBrick database and am having trouble. I have the redbrick.jar file from the software installation and have added to my APP_RUNTIME_CLASSPATH and my MANIFEST_CLASSPATH. This is my jConnect template line: <url>jdbc:rbw:protocol:${DB_LT_SERVER}:${DB_LT_PORT}/${DB_LT_NAME}</url> <driver-name>redbrick.jdbc.RBWDriver</driver-name> (Variables get replaced with good values during build.) When starting up I get this error: weblogic.common.ResourceException: Unknown Data Source jConnectLT weblogic.common.resourcepool.ResourceSystemException: Cannot load driver class: redbrick.jdbc.RBWDriver Do I have to do more to make Weblogic see the RedBrick database?     I'm trying to access and browse internet through a ssh server so in my laptop (ubuntu 12.04) I do this: ssh -D 9999 root@server-ip then in the network proxy in my laptop I set: HTTP proxy 127.0.0.1 port 9999 but when I try to open a page in my browser it doesn't connect and in my terminal I get errors like these : channel 4: open failed: connect failed: Connection refused channel 3: open failed: connect failed: Connection refused channel 5: open failed: connect failed: Connection refused channel 4: open failed: connect failed: Connection refused channel 6: open failed: connect failed: Connection refused I'm new to this and found this method on the internet so I'm don't know what I'm doing wrong.   • Run application or script on Windows RDC connection

    I checked this thread, but it did not solve my exact problem. I need to run a script on when a connection is made across my network using windows remote desktop connection. The thread listed above works for the initial login, however, if I don't log out (which is necessary for some processes running on my network), then it wont run the script again the next time someone connects to the system using remote desktop connection. Previously we were using pcAnywhere to achieve this, however after running into some graphical issues with pcAnywhere, we have decided to move away from it to RDC. For a little more information, we need to have an email sent out anytime a connection is made to particular machines. The login name will always be the same for those systems and we do not log off when closing the connection.

(shh, don't tell my service provider) The connection is usually seamless and the speed is good (150kbps) but occasionally, the connection will get terminated by either the phone or the network, I'm not sure which and then Windows7 stubbornly doesn't acknowledge that the connection is dead so I can re-dial. I have tried to manually kill the connection, but then anything related to the network service refuses to open and the connection is still there. No "Network and Sharing Center", "Network Devices" and often the tray menu will refuse to pop open. The only way I have found to clear the problem is a full restart which. Logging off doesn't work and I haven't been able to find the service that is frozen. If anyone knows how to fix this or prevent this from happening or even how to go about troubleshooting I would be very grateful. ps. This problem is non-existant when tethering in linux on the same machine. (Ubunutu 9 and JoliOS)
