My requirements for the random number generator are not very onerous - its not important that it pass a great battery of statistical tests of pure randomness.   Do we have a standard way of converting a char* to int (or long) in a strict way, i.e. we should get proper result only if all characters are digits and can fit in an int (or long) -- some way by using strtol etc.. ? Thus "sbc45", "4590k", " 56", "56 ", should be all invalid using that function.

  I want to be able to show information (HTML basically) over an image when the mouse rolls over the image... I know there is a .hover() jQuery function but am unsure how to use it to get the desired effect. • xdebug profiler output strange results

  I'm using xdebug to profile some PHP code on Windows and using WinCacheGrind/Webgrind to analyse the output, but I'm getting some strange results. Specifically, the total cumulative time for a single method is greater than 100%! How is it possible that more time is spent executing this function's code and all the functions that it calls than the total time it took to execute the whole script? What am I missing here?

  From what I understand about apply, it unpacks a list and turns the elements into arguments for a function. I see that (apply + [1 2 3]) works as expected, i.e: it's equivalent to (+ 1 2 3). Why then is (apply or [true false]) invalid? Isn't it equivalent to (or true false) ?

I have not completely gone through the ReactiveExentension, although it looks promising but may be overkill for my needs. Is there any framework which supports parallelism ?
