• How do I unescape HTML entities in a string in Python 3.1?

  I have looked all around and only found solutions for python 2.6 and earlier, NOTHING on how to do this in python 3.X. (I only have access to Win7 box.) I HAVE to be able to do this in 3.1 and preferably without external libraries. Currently, I have httplib2 installed and access to command-prompt curl (that's how I'm getting the source code for pages). Unfortunately, curl does not decode html entities, as far as I know, I couldn't find a command to decode it in the documentation. YES, I've tried to get Beautiful Soup to work, MANY TIMES without success in 3.X. If you could provide EXPLICIT instructions on how to get it to work in python 3 in MS Windows environment, I would be very grateful. So, to be clear, I need to turn strings like this: Suzy &amp; John into a string like this: "Suzy & John".

• auto-scaling size with anchors - overlapping controls

  I'm having some trouble with resizing and scaling of controls in a windows form. I've set anchors up so that the controls stay in ratio with the form, which works great. However, perhaps i was expecting too much when i thought that the control origin points would also scale and change with the form scaling, but this is not the case and i'm finding my controls overlapping. here's some screenshots; anyone know of an approach i can take to solve this problem? perhaps i need to set control origins to dynamic drawing points that scale, but then do these redraw on scaling the form, or only on creation?

• Is there an HTML browser rendering engine for Ruby?

  Given a URL, I would like to be able to render the returned HTML to know width and height for each div, fonts' size for each piece of text, color of each element, position of each element on screen, etc. A possible approach could be traversing the DOM tree with Hpricot and checking CSS style by parsing the associated stylesheet using css_parser gem. But this would not consider default styles, inheritance, floats, etc. In Java there's Cobra, a Java Web Renderer, which is able to render a web page and query attributes like width, font size, etc. for each fragment. I could use Cobra with JRuby or similar solutions, but prefer a Ruby native tool. Is there any library like this for Ruby?

• Need to parse HTML document for links-- use a library like html5lib or something else?

  I'm a very newbie webpage builder, currently working on creating a website that needs to change link colours according to the destination page. The links will be sorted into different classes (e.g. good, bad, neutral) by certain user input criteria-- e.g. links with content the user would find of interest is colored blue, stuff that the user (presumably) doesn't want to see is colored as normal text, etc. I reckon I need a way to parse the webpage for links to the content (stored in MySQL database), change the colors for all the links on the page (so I need to be able to change the link classes in the HTML as well) before outputting the adapted page to the user. I read that regex is not a good way to find those links-- so should I use a library, and if so, is html5lib good for what I'm doing?

• How to control allowed HTML tags in WMD Editor?

  I am trying to some-how set the valid HTML tags and attributes users would be able to use in WMD Editor in my site. For example, I want to forbid the user to directly set the font size, color, typeface and so on, which is trivial to do with the default settings typing something like: <span style="font-size: 45px; color:#FF0000">Some intrusive text here</span>. I think the way to implement this is through the "wmd_options", but I have not found any documentation or reference regarding this, giving the fact that the 'Options demo' seems to be the only public documentation and it does not show how should I do what I have described above. I've send this same question to [email protected] but didn't get any reply. As stackoverflow uses this editor someone reading this or maybe Jeff knows the answer ;) Thanks in advance!

  I'm using all of the below to take a field called 'code' from my database, get rid of all the HTML entities, and print it 'as usual' to the site: <?php $code = preg_replace('~&#x([0-9a-f]+);~ei', 'chr(hexdec("\\1"))', $code); $code = preg_replace('~&#([0-9]+);~e', 'chr("\\1")', $code); $code = html_entity_decode($code); ?> However the exported code still looks like this: progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.AlphaImageLoader(src=’img/the_image.png’); See what's going on there?   Hi - I'm trying to place a nice border around an image that's 250x250, using only html and css. The markup is this: <div id="img-container"><img src="pic.jpg" border="0"/></div> And the css is: #img-container { height: 225px; width: 225px; padding: 3px; border: 1px solid black; z-index: 10; position: relative; overflow: hidden; border-radius: 10px; } #img-container img { z-index: 5; } Basically, I want the div container to clip the picture's edges that exceed its boundaries. This will achieve the rounded edges effect using the border-radius property (-moz-border-radius, -webkit-border-radius, etc) - if it actually works or could even be done. Looking for tips and tricks on this. Thanks. And, yes, I'm obviously not a web designer :)

• Using Regex, how can I remove certain characters from the inside of tags in a string of html?

  Suppose I have a string of html that contains a bunch of control characters and I want to remove the control characters from inside tags only, leaving the characters outside the tags alone. For example Here the control character is the numeral "1". Input The quick 1<strong>orange</strong> lemming <sp11a1n 1class1='jumpe111r'11>jumps over</span> 1the idle 1frog Desired Output The quick 1<strong>orange</strong> lemming <span class='jumper'>jumps over</span> 1the idle 1frog So far I can match tags which contain the control character but I can't remove them in one regex. I guess I could perform another regex on my matches, but I'd really like to know if there's a better way.   Hi, I am creating a lightweight, single-file database administration tool and I would like to bundle some small icons with it. What is the best way to embed images in a HTML/PHP file? I know a method using PHP where I would call the same file with a GET parameter that would output hardcoded binary data with the correct header, but that seems a bit complicated. Can I use something to pass the image directly in a CSS background-image declaration? This would allow me to utilize the CSS sprite technique. Browser support isn't an issue here, so more exotic methods are welcome also. EDIT Does someone have a link/example to how to generate Data URL's properly with PHP? I'd figure echo 'data:image/png;base64,'.base64_encode(file_get_contents('image.png')) would suffice but I could be wrong.

  Hi, i have a page with the main content area being big thumbnails, but elsewhere on the page are about 100-200 other (smaller) thumbs that are not important but must still show. What ways do i have to make the main ones show first (or the unimportant ones show last)? I was thinking of these ways: JS load: on page load (once it has finished loading), use a jquery's append() (or whatever other way) to write the html with the image code Set all unimportant images inside a div with style="display:none;". Then once the page has loaded, use JS to set it as visible what do you think is the best way?

• Code for adding Content Controls Word 2007 C#

  Hey all, I was wondering if anyone has any idea how I can add Content Controls to a Word Document (Office 2007) from the Document Task/Action Pane via C#. The goal is the following: I want to have categorized information in the Task/Action Pane and have the user fill out the info there. Once they have filled out that information they'll click on a button and it will insert content Controls into the Word Document that has that Data. The reason I want to use Content Controls is because the data will be bound to a database. Is this possible? I would like links that do this without WordProcessingML or OpenXML. There has to be a way to do this via server side code and such that doesn't require long blocks of ,, etc. Thanks!

• User controls do not properly fit on the screen

  Hi, My application has several controls. Like in one screen has TreeView on left side, GridView with paging in the middle and 4 buttons at right side. The controls properly appear when the form is in a maximized state, but if I minimize it the controls do not properly fit on the screen. I tried with different different tricks like table layout.. in dat I added a panel, etc... But I could not solve the problem. How can I create such type of screens which fits independently of size of my window? Thanks

  IE8 in non-compatability view, Version 8.0.6001.18702 The code below represents the problem: <body><div style="height:400px;width:400px"><iframe src="http://mail.ru" height="100%" width="100%"></iframe></div></body> Scroll the IFRAME to the right to the middle of "??????? ??????? ? ???????" orange label. Alt-Tab to other window and Alt-Tab back to IE window. The internal HTML will appear ouside of IFRAME boundaries. The screenshot demonstrating the problem. Does the IFRAME rendering have a bug? May be I have an unpatched version (automatic updates are turned ON). Could you suggest a workaround except turning on Compatability View? Thank you.

  Hello, I have a html page, and when I click a file link on the page, the file download dialog pops up, and this file dialog locks the page. I mean without selecting one of the choices(Open, Save, Cancel) I can't do anything on the page (which is normal). What I need is if javascript can check whether the page is locked or not. (or whether the file dialog is popped?) p.s. don't say "put an onclick event to the link", because the server may respond very slowly (like 30 seconds after clicking)

  I have google as much as I possible, checked stackoverflow several times, and yet I can not find a good html to pdf converter that can handle css. Is there a free and open source solution (even for commercial usage)? There are many solutions, with huge variety of price ranges, but I was looking for something open source and free. I have tried PISA for Python and it works fairly well, but is not free for commercial usage. Is there anything for .Net? I have not had success with iTextSharp.

  I have several custom controls (some kind of frames for content and layout management, like wrap panel), and would like to write unit tests for them. It's hard to find any good examples except Silverlight control toolkit, which has some helper classes to do unit tests and it's quite complicated. For MVVM classes it's easy to write tests because they don't use SL dependency system and infrastructure. Questions: how to unit test DepedenyProperty, what do I need to test how to test attached property do I test bindings with theme or UserControl, like simple textblock content binding, or command/event binding in MVVM with UserControl what else do I test in my custom controls, beside my business logic any good tutorial to achieve tests like those in control toolkit How do I start? Is SL controls toolkit only option for learning? For testing framework i'm using one from control toolkit, and for continuus integration on TFS build server I planned to use Statlight (from codeplex). Any advice on that?

  I just installed the release version of Visual Studio 2010, and it looks like there's something wrong with the standard ASP.NET server controls. When I create a basic server control, such as a TextBox, the editor underlines it in green and says (I also get no intellisense for ASP.NET controls): Element 'TextBox' is not a known element. This can occur if there is a compilation error in the Web site, or the Web.config file is missing. The web site builds fine, and the Web.config file is not missing: <?xml version="1.0"?> <configuration> <system.web> <compilation debug="false" targetFramework="4.0" /> </system.web> </configuration> The controls work just fine in the code-behind, and they function correctly when I run the site. Is there some configuration problem here?
