My question is why was this decision made, and what benefits does std::stringstream provide that are absent from std::strstream?

• .NET Efficient way to generate WORD Doc - Server Side

  Hello, .NET 4.0 I am looking for the easiest way to generate a Word document on our server. Limitations : Server side I don't want to install word on the server Data source is XML I tried to generate a DOCX with XSLT which is fast and easy but the only way I could find to validate the generated document is to open it with Word and the only error I get when the document is not valid is "Error while opening document". • python: equivalent to Javascript "||" to override non-truthful value

  In Javascript I can do this: function A(x) { return x || 3; } This returns 3 if x is a "non-truthful" value like 0, null, false, and it returns x otherwise. This is useful for empty arguments, e.g. I can do A() and it will evaluate as 3. Does Python have an equivalent? I guess I could make one out of the ternary operator a if b else c but was wondering what people use for this.

• How can I get the same strstream functionality now that's deprecated?

  I use to write code like this: void fun(char *buff, unsigned size) { std::strstream str(buff, size); str << "hello world: " << 5; } so I can use stream output over an arbitrary buffer. I've found this technique both efficient (no allocations) and useful (streams!). Now that std::strstream is deprecated, how can I get the same speed+flexibility that I can get with this code?
