  • How to use scroll view on iPhone?

    - by iPhoney
    I want to display a text with a lot of lines. I added a multiline-label to a scroll view, but it didn't show anything. Looks like this is not the correct way to use the scroll view. How to use scroll view so that users can drag down to see more text?

  • Window 'onscreen' size puzzle

    - by Bender
    Okay, a REALLY fundamental question about window sizes here... If I create an NSWindow in IB, set its size to 216 x 144 points (exactly 3 inches by 2 inches) then print the window, it measures exactly what I set it to in IB. However, the onscreen display size measures approximately 156 x 105 points. What causes this, and is there any way to force the window to display at the required size onscreen? I ultimately want to draw to this (semi-transparent) window then use it as a full-sized overlay for comparison against a separately loaded scanned image of known size.

  • Network Connection NSNotification for OSX?

    - by Andrew
    I simply need to have a notification post when a valid IP address is assigned. I have tried polling via SCReachability, but that seems to be inefficient. Any suggestions? This seems like it should be simple, but I've been struggling for several hours to get anything working.

  • How to make controls "tabable" when loaded from plugin in Cocoa app?

    - by Randall
    I have an application thad loads in plugins that have their own UI. There is an IBOutlet called ContainerView in my AppDelegate. When the plugin loads, it puts its own view (that is stored in a xib in the plugin bundle) into the Container view like so [ContainerView addSubview:viewFromPlugin]; When the view loads, everything is fine but when I press tab the only controls that get any focus are ones outside of the ContainerView and none of them inside it get focus. I've tried setting the container view as the initialFirstResponder and I've tried hooking up the nextKeyView from the last button in the tab order to the ContainerView. Thanks.

  • Presenting a Popover From a Rect Problem

    - by Sheehan Alam
    I have a UITableViewCell that has some labels and images that can be clicked. I want to present a popover whenever a user clicks on any part of the cell. How can I achieve this without interfering with the click actions of the labels & images? I am currently creating an invisible button ontop of some other clickable items in the cell and calling the popover: [replyPopover presentPopoverFromRect:CGRectMake(77, 25, 408, 68) inView:self permittedArrowDirections: UIPopoverArrowDirectionDown animated:YES]; Unfortunately, because the button is on top of the labels & images I am unable to click them. How can I show a popover by clicking on the background of a cell, so that there is no interference when clicking images & labels inside the cell?

  • Troubleshooting FORM POST problems

    - by brettr
    I'm using the following code to submit to a WCF service. I keep getting an error that the key is invalid. I have a webpage on the same server that I submit the same data (but different key) using a FORM POST. It works fine that way. I put the URL below all in a URL (including valid key from server webpage) and get the key is invalid error. I'm thinking the data I'm submitting through the iPhone isn't really going across as a FORM POST but rather as a URL. Is there anything I may be doing wrong in the following code or any other suggestions? NSString *stringForURL = @"https://abc.com/someservice.aspx"; NSURL *URL=[[NSURL alloc] initWithString:stringForURL]; NSMutableURLRequest *request = [NSMutableURLRequest requestWithURL:URL]; NSString *request_body = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"prop1=value1&key=%@", [@"r2xHEuzgDTQEWA5Xe6+k9BSVrgsMX2mWQBW/39nqT4s=" stringByAddingPercentEscapesUsingEncoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding]]; NSData *postData = [request_body dataUsingEncoding:NSASCIIStringEncoding allowLossyConversion:YES]; NSString *postLength = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%d", [postData length]]; [request setValue:postLength forHTTPHeaderField:@"Content-Length"]; [request setHTTPMethod:@"POST"]; [request setValue:@"application/x-www-form-urlencoded" forHTTPHeaderField:@"Content-Type"]; [request setHTTPBody:postData]; NSURLConnection *connection = [[NSURLConnection alloc] initWithRequest:request delegate:self]; [NSThread sleepForTimeInterval:1]; self.receivedData = [[NSMutableData data] retain];

  • No method found compiler warning

    - by Magic Bullet Dave
    I have create a class from a string, check it is valid and then check if it responds to a particular method. If it does then I call the method. It all works fine, except I get an annoying compiler warning: "warning: no '-setCurrentID:' method found". Am I doing something wrong here? Is there anyway to tell the compiler all is ok and stop it reporting a warning? The here is the code: // Create an instance of the class id viewController = [[NSClassFromString(class) alloc] init]; // Check the class supports the methods to set the row and section if ([viewController respondsToSelector:@selector(setCurrentID:)]) { [viewController setCurrentID:itemID]; } // Push the view controller onto the tab bar stack [self.navigationController pushViewController:viewController animated:YES]; [viewController release]; Cheers Dave

  • What kinds of questions are Technical Support Incidents for?

    - by nevan
    Last year I received two "Technical Support Incidents" in the iPhone developer program, but when I went to renew I found that I would lose them. I have another two for this year, but I'm not really sure about the kind of problems that can be solved by using them. What kinds of questions are the best use of these Technical Support Incidents? What is the kind of problem I can use them for? What do you receive when you use them? Thanks.

  • Another IKImageView Question: copying a region

    - by Brian Postow
    I'm trying to use the select and copy feature of the IKImageView. If all you want to do is have an app with an image, select a portion and copy it to the clipboard, it's easy. You set the copy menu pick to the first responder's copy:(id) method and magically everything works. However, if you want something more complicated, like you want to copy as part of some other operation, I can't seem to find the method to do this. IKImageView doesn't seem to have a copy method, it doesn't seem to have a method that will even tell you the selected rectangle! I have gone through Hillegass' book, so I understand how the clipboard works, just not how to get the portion of the image out of the view... Now, I'm starting to think that I made a mistake in basing my project on IKImageView, but it's what Preview is built on (or so I've read), so I figured it had to be stable... and anyway, now it's too late, I'm too deep in this to start over... So, other than not using IKImageView, any suggestions on how to copy the select region to the clipboard manually? EDIT actually, I have found the copy(id) method, but when I call it, I get <Error>: CGBitmapContextCreate: unsupported parameter combination: 8 integer bits/component; 16 bits/pixel; 1-component color space; kCGImageAlphaPremultipliedLast; 2624 bytes/row. Which obviously doesn't happen when I do a normal copy through the first-responder... I understand the error message, but I'm not sure where it's getting those parameters from... Is there any way to trace through this and see how this is happening? A debugger won't help for obvious reasons, as well as the fact that I'm doing this in Mozilla, so a debugger isn't an option anyway... EDIT 2 It occurs to me that the copy:(id) method I found may be copying the VIEW rather than copying a chunk of the image to the clipboard, which is what I need. The reason I thought it was the clipboard copy is that in another project, where I'm copying from an IKImageView to the clipboard straight from the edit menu, it just sends a copy:(id) to the firstResponder, but I'm not actually sure what the firstresponder does with it...

  • Navigation Items in UITableViewController are not appearing?

    - by Sheehan Alam
    I am displaying a UITableViewController inside of a UITabBarController that is being presented modally: -(IBAction)arButtonClicked:(id)sender{ //this is a uitableviewcontroller ARViewController* arViewController = [[[ARViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"ARViewController" bundle:nil]autorelease]; LeaderBoardTableViewController* lbViewController = [[[LeaderBoardTableViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"LeaderBoardTableViewController" bundle:nil]autorelease]; lbViewController.title = @"Leaderboard"; arTabBarController = [[UITabBarController alloc] initWithNibName:nil bundle:nil]; arTabBarController.viewControllers = [NSArray arrayWithObjects:arViewController, lbViewController, nil]; arTabBarController.selectedViewController = arViewController; [self presentModalViewController:arTabBarController animated:YES]; } In my viewDidLoad for arViewController method I am setting the navigation items: - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; // Uncomment the following line to preserve selection between presentations. self.clearsSelectionOnViewWillAppear = NO; self.title = @"AR"; leaderBoardButton = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithBarButtonSystemItem:UIBarButtonSystemItemOrganize target:self action:@selector(leaderBoardButtonClicked:)]; self.navigationItem.rightBarButtonItem = leaderBoardButton; } My navigation bar doesn't appear when it is inside of the UITabBarController, but when I push the view itself I am able to see it. What am I missing?

  • Detecting the type of iPhone interrupt

    - by Prashant
    I can detect that the iPhone went to sleep and came back from sleep, by using the applicationWillResignActive and applicationDidBecomeActive. But how do I find out what kind of interrupt it was. I am making an audio player application, and need to keep the audio playing when the iPhone goes to sleep (which I know how to do). But I need to interrupt the audio when a message, alarm or low battery interrupt occurs. Also I need to resume the audio when the event is over. So how do I differentiate between these different interrupts.

  • Passing a string representing my format specifier into stringWithFormat and seeing issues

    - by Jeff
    If I call "[NSString stringWithFormat:@"Testing \n %@",variableString]"; I get what I would expect, which is Testing, followed by a new line, then the contents of variableString. However, if i try NSString *testString = @"Testing \n %@"; //forgive shorthand here [NSString stringWithFormat,testString,variableString] the output actually literally writes \n to the screen instead of a newline. any workaround to this? seems odd to me

  • Why my UTableView with style UITableViewStyleGrouped is consuming memory?

    - by prathumca
    Hello everyone, Currently in my app, I'm using an UITableView with style UITableViewStyleGrouped as shown below. CGRect imgFrame = CGRectMake(0, 0, 320, 650); UITableView *myTable = [[UITableView alloc] initWithFrame:imgFrame style:UITableViewStyleGrouped]; myTable.dataSource = self; myTable.delegate = self; //make the current object the event handler for view [self.view addSubview:myTable]; [myTable release]; And the data has stored in an array "dataArray". dataArray has collection of arrays, where each array represent a section. Currently I have only one section with 100 records. When I installed my app onto my IPhone, I observed that this UITableView is consuming 20 MB of IPhone memory. If I changed the table view style to "UITableViewStylePlain", then it is consuming only 4MB of memory. I'm trying to figure it out, where is the exact problem, but not. What was wrong with "UITableViewStyleGrouped"? Regards, prathumca.

  • Sync Services With AddressBook

    - by Marcus
    Hi, I've developed an application to sync the Mac address book with another application. I was using an NSNotification (kABDatabaseChangedExternallyNotification) which are sent every time the address book is edited to do the syncing. However I found that if I 'overloaded' the address book (by adding 20 records really quickly or something) I didn't get all of the notifications. I have since found the Sync Services framework which seems to be aimed at my kind of application and it seems to work fine. The problem is that the changes are not 'pushed' to me in the same was as an NSNotification - I have to sync every 5 minutes or so. And, from what I can understand, I shouldn't use the AddressBook API directly but push changes back through sync services. This means that changes are not instant but lagged by how often address book/my app syncs. Is there any way to make it instant? or to use the NSNotifications reliably? Thanks for your time, Marc

  • Why doesen't it work to write this NSMutableArray to a plist?

    - by Emil
    edited. Hey, I am trying to write an NSMutableArray to a plist. The compiler does not show any errors, but it does not write to the plist anyway. I have tried this on a real device too, not just the Simulator. Basically, what this code does, is that when you click the accessoryView of a UITableViewCell, it gets the indexPath pressed, edits an NSMutableArray and tries to write that NSMutableArray to a plist. It then reloads the arrays mentioned (from multiple plists) and reloads the data in a UITableView from the arrays. Code: NSIndexPath *indexPath = [table indexPathForRowAtPoint:[[[event touchesForView:sender] anyObject] locationInView:table]]; [arrayFav removeObjectAtIndex:[arrayFav indexOfObject:[NSNumber numberWithInt:[[arraySub objectAtIndex:indexPath.row] intValue]]]]; NSString *rootPath = [NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDocumentDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES) objectAtIndex:0]; NSString *plistPath = [rootPath stringByAppendingPathComponent:@"arrayFav.plist"]; NSLog(@"%@ - %@", rootPath, plistPath); [arrayFav writeToFile:plistPath atomically:YES]; // Reloads data into the arrays [self loadDataFromPlists]; // Reloads data in tableView from arrays [tableFarts reloadData];

  • iphone image is leaking, but where?

    - by Brodie4598
    the image that is being displayed in this code is leaking but I cant figure out how. What I have a tableview that displays images to be displayed. Each time a user selects an image, it should remove the old image, download a new one, then add it to the scroll view. But the old image is not being released and I cant figure out why... -(void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView didSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { [imageView removeFromSuperview]; self.imageView = nil; NSUInteger row = [indexPath row]; NSString *tempC = [[NSString alloc]initWithFormat:@"http://www.website.com/%@_0001.jpg",[pdfNamesFinalArray objectAtIndex:row] ]; chartFileName = tempC; pdfName = [pdfNamesFinalArray objectAtIndex:row]; [tableView deselectRowAtIndexPath:indexPath animated:YES]; NSArray* paths = NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDocumentDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES); NSString *docsPath = [paths objectAtIndex:0]; NSString *tempString = [[[NSString alloc]initWithFormat:@"%@/%@.jpg",docsPath,pdfName]autorelease]; NSData *data = [NSData dataWithContentsOfFile:tempString]; if (data != NULL){ self.imageView = nil; [imageView removeFromSuperview]; self.imageView = nil; UIImageView *tempImage = [[[UIImageView alloc]initWithImage:[UIImage imageWithData:data]]autorelease]; self.imageView = tempImage; [data release]; scrollView.contentSize = CGSizeMake(imageView.frame.size.width , imageView.frame.size.height); scrollView.maximumZoomScale = 1; scrollView.minimumZoomScale = .6; scrollView.clipsToBounds = YES; scrollView.delegate = self; [scrollView addSubview:imageView]; scrollView.zoomScale = .37; } else { [data release]; self.imageView = nil; [imageView removeFromSuperview]; self.imageView = nil; activityIndicator.hidden = NO; getChartsButton.enabled = NO; chartListButton.enabled = NO; saveChartButton.enabled = NO; [NSThread detachNewThreadSelector:@selector(downloadImages) toTarget:self withObject:nil]; } chartPanel.hidden = YES; } -(void) downloadImages { NSAutoreleasePool* pool = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc] init]; self.imageView = nil; [imageView removeFromSuperview]; NSURL *url = [[[NSURL alloc]initWithString:chartFileName]autorelease]; NSData *data = [NSData dataWithContentsOfURL:url]; UIImageView *tempImage = [[[UIImageView alloc]initWithImage:[UIImage imageWithData:data]]autorelease]; self.imageView = tempImage; tempImage = nil; scrollView.contentSize = CGSizeMake(imageView.frame.size.width , imageView.frame.size.height); scrollView.maximumZoomScale = 1; scrollView.minimumZoomScale = .37; scrollView.clipsToBounds = YES; scrollView.delegate = self; [scrollView addSubview:imageView]; scrollView.zoomScale = .6; activityIndicator.hidden = YES; getChartsButton.enabled = YES; chartListButton.enabled = YES; saveChartButton.enabled = YES; [pool drain]; [pool release]; }

  • How to save data from multiple views of an iPhone app?

    - by DownUnder
    Hi Everyone. I'm making an app where I need to save the text in multiple views in the app when the app quits. I also need to be able to remove all of the data from just one of those views and when the app quits, it's possible not all of those views will have been created yet. After reading this post I thought perhaps it would be good to use a singleton that manages my app data which loads in the data when it is first requested and saved it when the app quits. Then in each view where I need to save data I can just set it on the singleton. I gave it a go but have run into some issues. At first I didn't synthesize the properties (as in the post I was using as a guide) but the compiler told me I needed to make getters and setters, so I did. Now when my applicationWIllTerminate: gets call the app crashes and the console says "Program received signal: “EXC_BAD_ACCESS”. kill quit". Is anyone able to tell me what I'm doing wrong, or suggest a better approach to saving the data? //SavedData.h #import <Foundation/Foundation.h> #define kFileName @"appData.plist" @interface SavedData : NSObject { NSString *information; NSString *name; NSString *email; NSString *phone; NSString *mobile; } @property(assign) NSString *information; @property(assign) NSString *name; @property(assign) NSString *email; @property(assign) NSString *phone; @property(assign) NSString *mobile; + (SavedData *)singleton; + (NSString *)dataFilePath; + (void)applicationWillTerminate:(NSNotification *)notification; @end //SavedData.m #import "SavedData.h" @implementation SavedData @synthesize information; @synthesize name; @synthesize email; @synthesize phone; @synthesize mobile; static SavedData * SavedData_Singleton = nil; + (SavedData *)singleton{ if (nil == SavedData_Singleton){ SavedData_Singleton = [[SavedData_Singleton alloc] init]; NSString *filePath = [self dataFilePath]; if([[NSFileManager defaultManager] fileExistsAtPath:filePath]){ NSMutableArray * array = [[NSMutableArray alloc] initWithContentsOfFile:filePath]; information = [array objectAtIndex:0]; name = [array objectAtIndex:1]; email = [array objectAtIndex:2]; phone = [array objectAtIndex:3]; mobile = [array objectAtIndex:4]; [array release]; } UIApplication *app = [UIApplication sharedApplication]; [[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] addObserver:self selector:@selector(applicationWillTerminate:) name:UIApplicationWillTerminateNotification object:app]; } return SavedData_Singleton; } + (NSString *)dataFilePath{ NSArray *paths = NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDocumentDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES); NSString *DocumentsDirectory = [paths objectAtIndex:0]; return [DocumentsDirectory stringByAppendingPathComponent:kFileName]; } + (void)applicationWillTerminate:(NSNotification *)notification{ NSLog(@"Application will terminate received"); NSMutableArray *array = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; [array addObject:information]; [array addObject:name]; [array addObject:email]; [array addObject:phone]; [array addObject:mobile]; [array writeToFile:[self dataFilePath] atomically:YES]; [array release]; } @end Then when I want to use it I do myLabel.text = [SavedData singleton].information; And when I change the field [SavedData singleton].information = @"my string"; Any help will be very much appreciated!

  • Transform/redraw view after pinch zoom on x-axis

    - by Jonathan
    My setup. UIScrollView (scrollView) - UIView (contentView) - UIView (subView) I have managed to do so I can zoom contentView only on the x-axis. The problem is that subView is containing a graph. When contentView is zoomed and transformed the graph gets unsharp and distorded since the scaling only effect the x-axis. What I need help with is to somehow redraw the contentView after I'm done with the zooming without distorting the graph. Is it possible to transform the contentView so that the graph stays sharp even if you only zoom in the x-axis or redraw the content in the zoomed/stretched view somehow? I have tried the solution in this thread link but haven't succeeded to get it running.
