  • Standard upload web control alternatives

    - by Roy
Hi all, I'm developing a ASP.NET MVC application. There is little space for me to put two standard file uploading web controls in a page. So I'm seeking for some succinct alternatives. A checkbox-look button pops up a file open dialog is ideal. Is there any kind of stuff? Thanks in advance!

  • Mapping enum to a table with hibernate annotation

    - by Thierry-Dimitri Roy
I have a table DEAL and a table DEAL_TYPE. I would like to map this code: public class Deal { DealType type; } public enum DealType { BASE("Base"), EXTRA("Extra"); } The problem is that the data already exist in the database. And I'm having a hard time mapping the classes to the database. The database looks something like that: TABLE DEAL { Long id; Long typeId; } TABLE DEAL_TYPE { Long id; String text; } I know I could use a simple @OneToMany relationship from deal to deal type, but I would prefer to use an enum. Is this possible? I almost got it working by using a EnumType.ORDINAL type. But unfortunately, my IDs in my deal type table are not sequential, and do not start at 1. Any suggestions?

  • How to enforce a site-wide license?

    - by Roy Tang
We have a small .Net program that we sell with individual licenses. The individual licenses are enforced by registering a key file that is generated using information from the machine used to install the program (MAC address, etc.) Now, we have a customer request for a site-wide license, such that they can deploy to as many machines on their site as possible. From the technical POV I'm not sure what are the usual approaches for this; our old approach won't work since we can't map the license to any machine-specific information. Any suggestions? A few more details: the program is a client-side program that includes an Office Add-In the machines to be installed on may or may not have internet access we aren't restricted to .Net-only approaches, I'm just looking for a general idea of how this sort of thing is usually handled

  • Which method should I use to give the perception the computer is thinking in programming?

    - by Roy
I want to create a simple game like tic tac toe where the human user is playing against the computer. The computer function takes a couple of milliseconds to run but I would like to make the computer take 5 seconds to make a move. Which method should I use? 1) Create two memory threads. One for the computer and one for the human user. When the computer is taking 5 seconds to imitate thinking, the human user thread is paused for 5 seconds. 2) Disable input devices for 5 seconds using timer or dispatchertimer 3) Any better methods you can think of Thanks!

  • Windows 7 Mobile ListBox uncustomizable?

    - by Roy
    I've just recently started development using Visual Studio 2010 Express for Windows Phone and I put in a ListBox. I can't seem to manipulate the formatting. No matter what I do, the background is black/gray, the selected items have a blue border, and there is padding between the items in the listbox (i'm using images). Here is my code: Xaml: <Grid x:Name="ContentGrid" Grid.Row="1"> <Grid Name="gallery"> <Grid.RowDefinitions> <RowDefinition Height="370" /> <RowDefinition Height="150" /> </Grid.RowDefinitions> <Border BorderBrush="Red" Width="450" CornerRadius="4" BorderThickness="2" Background="Red" Margin="10,30,20,10" Padding="6,6,6,6"> <Image Grid.Row="0" Grid.Column="0" Height="360" x:Name="imgPreview"/> </Border> <ListBox x:Name="lbScrollGallery" Grid.Row="1" Grid.Column="0" Padding="0" VerticalAlignment="Top" Width="450" SelectionChanged="ScrollerSelectionChanged" d:LayoutOverrides="HorizontalAlignment" ScrollViewer.HorizontalScrollBarVisibility="Hidden"> <ListBox.ItemsPanel> <ItemsPanelTemplate> <StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal"/> </ItemsPanelTemplate> </ListBox.ItemsPanel> <ListBox.ItemTemplate> <DataTemplate> <Image Width="100" Height="100" Stretch="Fill" Name="imgSource" VerticalAlignment="Center" Source="{Binding Path=Url}" /> </DataTemplate> </ListBox.ItemTemplate> </ListBox> </Grid> </Grid> Is there some way I can customize the listbox? Like change the background to red or make the padding between different items 0?

  • jquery-like HTML parsing in Python?

    - by Roy Tang
Is there any Python library that allows me to parse an HTML document similar to what jQuery does? i.e. I'd like to be able to use CSS selector syntax to grab an arbitrary set of nodes from the document, read their content/attributes, etc. The only Python HTML parsing lib I've used before was BeautifulSoup, and even though it's fine I keep thinking it would be faster to do my parsing if I had jQuery syntax available. :D

  • Does Meta-refresh require a full url

    - by Roy Rico
Does a meta refresh tag require a full url? I have code that looks like this, which seems to work just fine, but when I load it in lynx text browser, it says this is bad HTML. It seems to suggest that the full URL is required (http://mydomain.com/blah.htm).

  • Is `xargs -t` output stderr or stdout, and can you control it?

    - by Roy Rico
say i have a directory with hi.txt and blah.txt and i execute the following command on a linux-ish command line ls *.* | xargs -t -i{} echo {} the output you will see is echo blah.txt blah.txt echo hi.txt hi.txt i'd like to redirect the stderr output (say 'echo blah.txt' fails...), leaving only the output from the xargs -t command written to std out, but it looks as if it's stderr as well. ls *.* | xargs -t -i{} echo {} 2> /dev/null Is there a way to control it, to make it output to stdout?

  • How do you make the scale animation begin at the middle of the object instead of the top left?

    - by Roy
    What I am trying to accomplish: 10 percent increase scale transformation of a rectangle via Silverlight storyboard animation. What I currently doing: While in Expression Blend 3, I created a rectangle, created a storyboard, and created the scale transformation. The preview looked correct because the increase in scale begins in the middle of the object. When I run the project the scale transformation begins at the top left. Is there some piece of code missing? Here is my current code: <UserControl xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" x:Class="TestingGroundsWebsite.MainPage" Width="640" Height="480"> <UserControl.Resources> <Storyboard x:Name="RectangleAppear"> <DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames BeginTime="00:00:00" Storyboard.TargetName="rectangle" Storyboard.TargetProperty="(UIElement.RenderTransform).(TransformGroup.Children)[0].(ScaleTransform.ScaleX)"> <EasingDoubleKeyFrame KeyTime="00:00:00" Value="0.1"/> <EasingDoubleKeyFrame KeyTime="00:00:01" Value="1.1"/> <EasingDoubleKeyFrame KeyTime="00:00:02" Value="1"/> </DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames> <DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames BeginTime="00:00:00" Storyboard.TargetName="rectangle" Storyboard.TargetProperty="(UIElement.RenderTransform).(TransformGroup.Children)[0].(ScaleTransform.ScaleY)"> <EasingDoubleKeyFrame KeyTime="00:00:00" Value="0.1"/> <EasingDoubleKeyFrame KeyTime="00:00:01" Value="1.1"/> <EasingDoubleKeyFrame KeyTime="00:00:02" Value="1"/> </DoubleAnimationUsingKeyFrames> </Storyboard> </UserControl.Resources> <Canvas x:Name="LayoutRoot" Background="White"> <Rectangle x:Name="rectangle" Fill="#FFE80000" Stroke="Black" Height="75" Width="76" Canvas.Left="227" Canvas.Top="167" RenderTransformOrigin="0.5,0.5"> <Rectangle.RenderTransform> <TransformGroup> <ScaleTransform/> <SkewTransform/> <RotateTransform/> <TranslateTransform/> </TransformGroup> </Rectangle.RenderTransform> </Rectangle> </Canvas> </UserControl> Thanks

  • Using jQuery with form to eliminate spam

    - by Thierry-Dimitri Roy
I have put a form on a web page where the user can send us data. Unfortunately, the webmaster does get a lot of spam through this form and the valid submissions gets buried. I have used captcha to bypass this problem. But I think that everyone would agree that captcha is a big annoyance to users. I switched to another solution: now the URL of the submit form points to null: <form id="sendDataForm" action="/null" method="post"> ... </form> And I bypass the form submission using jQuery excellent form plugin: $('#sendDataForm').ajaxForm({ url: '/ajax-data/' }); Since then, no spam has reached the webmaster, and valid comments gets through. The only drawbacks is that users without javascript cannot send us the form. But since this is on top of a javascript web application, we can safely assume that these are not valid users. My question is: in a world where 99% of users has javascript enabled (and a mechanism for those user could be build that uses captcha), why is this solution not more used? What drawback am I not seeing?

  • Get count matches in query on large table very slow

    - by Roy Roes
I have a mysql table "items" with 2 integer fields: seid and tiid The table has about 35000000 records, so it's very large. seid tiid ----------- 1 1 2 2 2 3 2 4 3 4 4 1 4 2 The table has a primary key on both fields, an index on seid and an index on tiid. Someone types in 1 or more tiid values and now I would like to get the seid with most results. For example when someone types 1,2,3, I would like to get seid 2 and 4 as result. They both have 2 matches on the tiid values. My query so far: SELECT COUNT(*) as c, seid FROM items WHERE tiid IN (1,2,3) GROUP BY seid HAVING c = (SELECT COUNT(*) as c, seid FROM items WHERE tiid IN (1,2,3) GROUP BY seid ORDER BY c DESC LIMIT 1) But this query is extremly slow, because of the large table. Does anyone know how to construct a better query for this purpose?

  • how do you remove the navigation bar on Android?

    - by Thierry-Dimitri Roy
When I listen to a YouTube video fullscreen in landscape on my Galaxy Nexus, the navigation bar on the right disapear after a few seconds (the bar which contains the "back", "home" and "recent apps" buttons ). I want to do the same thing when a user watch a video in my app. What is the code to hide the navigation bar? [UPDATE] Here is the bar I want to hide. Not the title bar, nor the action bar. The navigation bar. (the bar which contains the "back", "home" and "recent apps" buttons ). I also don't want to "dim" the buttons. I'm looking into removing the bar entirely (like the YouTube app does when you plan a video fullscreen in landscape mode)

  • How to assess the risk of a java version upgrade?

    - by Roy Tang
I'm being asked to assess whether we can safely upgrade the java version on one of our production-deployed webapps. The codebase is fairly large and we want to avoid having to regression test everything (no automated tests sadly), but we've already encountered at least one problem during some manual testing (XmlStringReader.getLocalName now throws an IllegalStateExeption when it just used to return null) and higher-ups are pretty nervous about the upgrade. The current suggested approach is to do a source compare of the JDK sources for each version and assess those changes to see which ones might have impact, but it seems there's a lot of changes to go through (and as mentioned the codebase is kinda large). Is it safe and easier to just review the java version changes for each version? Or is there an easier way to conduct this assessment? Edit: I forgot to mention the version upgrade being considered is a minor version upgrade, i.e. 1.6.10 to 1.6.33

  • Select where a value present

    - by Roy
First a database example: id, product_id, cat, name, value -------------------------------- 1,1,Algemeen,Processor,2 Ghz 2,1,Algemeen,Geheugen,4 GB 3,2,Algemeen,Processor,3 Ghz 4,2,Algemeen,Geheugen,4 GB 5,3,Beeldscherm,Inch,22" 6,3,Beeldscherm,Kleur,Zwart 7,3,Algemeen,Geheugen,3 GB 8,3,Algemeen,Processor,3 Ghz I want with one query to select the follow id's: 1,2,3,4,7,8 Because the cat = algemeen and the name = processor by these products. ID 5,6 are only present by product 3. So, the entry's (cat and name) which are present by all products (product_id) have to be selected. The database contains 80.000 entry's with a lot of diffrent cat's, name's and value's. Is this possible with one query or is some php necessary? How do I do this? My apologies for the bad English.
