  • CDI 1.1 Public Review and Feedback

    - by reza_rahman
CDI 1.1 is humming along nicely and recently released it's public review draft. Although it's just a point release, CDI 1.1 actually has a lot in it. Some the changes include: The CDI class, which provides programmatic access to CDI facilities from outside a managed bean Ability to veto beans declaratively using @Vetoed Conversations in Servlet requests Application lifecycle events in Java EE Injection of Bean metadata into bean instances Programmatic access to a container provided Producer, InjectionTarget, AnnotatedType Ability to override attributes of a Bean via BeanAttributes Ability to process modules via ProcessModule Ability to wrap the InjectionPoint Honor WEB-INF/classes/META-INF/beans.xml to activate WEB-INF/classes in a bean archive Global ordering and enablement of interceptors and decorators Global selection of alternatives @New deprecated Clarify interceptors and decorators must be implemented using proxying Allow multiple annotated types per Java class Allow Extensions to specify the annotations that they are interested in The CDI 1.1 expert group has a number of open issues that they would like immediate feedback on. These include critical issues like bean visibility, startup events and restricting CDI scans. Read the details here and let your voice be heard!

To launch the dialog, a command item is used that references the control flow case to the task flow call activity <af:commandButton text="Lookup" id="cb6"         windowEmbedStyle="inlineDocument" useWindow="true"         windowHeight="300" windowWidth="300"         action="lookup" partialSubmit="true"/> By default, the dialog opens with a close icon in its header that does not raise a task flow return event when used for dismissing the dialog. In previous releases, the close icon could only be hidden using CSS in a custom skin definition, as explained in a previous OTN Harvest publishing (12/2010) http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/adf/learnmore/dec2010-otn-harvest-199274.pdf As a new feature, Oracle JDeveloper 11g (11.1.1.4) provides an option to globally remove the close icon from inline dialogs without using CSS. • How to configure LocalSessionFactoryBean to release connections after transaction end?

    - by peter
I am testing an application (Spring 2.5, Hibernate 3.5.0 Beta, Atomikos 3.6.2, and Postgreql 8.4.2) with the configuration for the DAO listed below. The problem that I see is that the pool of 10 connections with the dataSource gets exhausted after the 10's transaction. I know 'hibernate.connection.release_mode' has no effect unless the session is obtained with openSession rather then using a contextual session. I am wandering if anyone has found a way to configure the LocalSessionFactoryBean to release connections after any transaction. • Loading Properties with Spring (via System Properties)

    - by gabe
    My problem is as follows: I have server.properties for different environments. The path to those properties is provided trough a system property called propertyPath. How can I instruct my applicationContext.xml to load the properties with the given propertyPath system property without some ugly MethodInvokingBean which calls System.getProperty(''); My applicationContext.xml <bean id="systemPropertyConfigurer" class="org.springframework.beans.factory.config.PropertyPlaceholderConfigurer"> <property name="systemPropertiesModeName" value="SYSTEM_PROPERTIES_MODE_OVERRIDE"/> <property name="placeholderPrefix" value="sys{"/> <property name="properties"> <props> <prop key="propertyPath">/default/path/to/server.properties</prop> </props> </property> </bean> <bean id="propertyResource" class="org.springframework.core.io.FileSystemResource" dependency-check="all" depends-on="systemPropertyConfigurer"> <constructor-arg value="sys{propertyPath}"/> </bean> <bean id="serviceProperties" class="org.springframework.beans.factory.config.PropertiesFactoryBean"> <property name="location" ref="propertyResource"/> </bean> <bean id="propertyConfigurer" class="org.springframework.beans.factory.config.PropertyPlaceholderConfigurer"> <property name="location" ref="propertyResource"/> <property name="placeholderPrefix" value="prop{"/> <property name="ignoreUnresolvablePlaceholders" value="true"/> <property name="ignoreResourceNotFound" value="false"/> </bean> <bean id="dataSource" class="org.springframework.jndi.JndiObjectFactoryBean"> <property name="jndiName" value="prop{datasource.name}"/> </bean> with this configuration the propertyResource alsways complains about java.io.FileNotFoundException: sys{propertyPath} (The system cannot find the file specified) Any suggestions? ;-) Thanks gabe

  • Dependency Injection: Jetty 7

    - by Malax
Hi StackOverflow! My application requires several interface implementations which require a Jetty server to do their job. This is, however, not necessarily the case in every implementations of those interfaces so the Jetty server is only a dependency. Since it would be a huge amount of pain to wrap the entire jetty server with all its logging, connector and Handler configurations, I want to inject the server to those implementations with Spring. I decided that injecting the Server class is not a good idea because an implementation could stop the server even if its required at another location. Currently I inject empty HandlerList classes to those implementations and they register their handlers to avoid those problems. The Problem: Those handlers might interfere with other handlers for example: implementation one might register a handler for /foo and implementation two too... problem. Has anyone used Jetty in such an environment? And how could this problem be solved? My XML to clarify my problem: <bean id="jetty" class="org.eclipse.jetty.server.Server" destroy-method="stop"> <property name="connectors"> <list> <bean class="org.eclipse.jetty.server.bio.SocketConnector"> <property name="host" value="10.8.0.46" /> <property name="port" value="9999" /> </bean> </list> </property> <property name="handler"> <bean class="org.eclipse.jetty.server.handler.HandlerCollection"> <property name="handlers"> <list> <ref bean="jetty.handlerList" /> <bean class="org.eclipse.jetty.server.handler.RequestLogHandler"> <property name="requestLog"> <bean class="org.eclipse.jetty.server.NCSARequestLog"> <constructor-arg value="${jetty.logfile}" /> <property name="extended" value="false"/> </bean> </property> </bean> </list> </property> </bean> </property> <property name="sendServerVersion" value="false" /> </bean> <bean id="jetty.handlerList" class="org.eclipse.jetty.server.handler.HandlerList" /> If I require an empty HandlerList I use something like this where com.example.myapp.util.ioc.CreateHandlerListFactory is a org.springframework.beans.factory.FactoryBean which creates a new HandlerList within the given HandlerList. <constructor-arg> <bean class="com.example.myapp.util.ioc.CreateHandlerListFactory"> <constructor-arg ref="jetty.handlerList"/> </bean> </constructor-arg>

  • Spring @Transactional not creating required transaction

    - by Steve
    Ok, so I've finally bowed to peer pressure and started using Spring in my web app :-)... So I'm trying to get the transaction handling stuff to work, and I just can't seem to get it. My Spring configuration looks like this: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <beans xmlns="http://www.springframework.org/schema/beans" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:p="http://www.springframework.org/schema/p" xmlns:tx="http://www.springframework.org/schema/tx" xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.springframework.org/schema/beans http://www.springframework.org/schema/beans/spring-beans.xsd http://www.springframework.org/schema/tx http://www.springframework.org/schema/tx/spring-tx.xsd"> <bean id="groupDao" class="mil.navy.ndms.conops.common.dao.impl.jpa.GroupDao" lazy-init="true"> <property name="entityManagerFactory" ><ref bean="entityManagerFactory"/></property> </bean> <!-- enables interpretation of the @Required annotation to ensure that dependency injection actually occures --> <bean class="org.springframework.beans.factory.annotation.RequiredAnnotationBeanPostProcessor"/> <!-- enables interpretation of the @PersistenceUnit/@PersistenceContext annotations providing convenient access to EntityManagerFactory/EntityManager --> <bean class="org.springframework.orm.jpa.support.PersistenceAnnotationBeanPostProcessor"/> <!-- uses the persistence unit defined in the META-INF/persistence.xml JPA configuration file --> <bean id="entityManagerFactory" class="org.springframework.orm.jpa.LocalEntityManagerFactoryBean"> <property name="persistenceUnitName" value="CONOPS_PU" /> </bean> <!-- transaction manager for use with a single JPA EntityManagerFactory for transactional data access to a single datasource --> <bean id="jpaTransactionManager" class="org.springframework.orm.jpa.JpaTransactionManager"> <property name="entityManagerFactory" ref="entityManagerFactory"/> </bean> <!-- enables interpretation of the @Transactional annotation for declerative transaction managment using the specified JpaTransactionManager --> <tx:annotation-driven transaction-manager="jpaTransactionManager" proxy-target-class="true"/> </beans> persistence.xml: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <persistence version="1.0" xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/persistence" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/persistence http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/persistence/persistence_1_0.xsd"> <persistence-unit name="CONOPS_PU" transaction-type="RESOURCE_LOCAL"> <provider>org.hibernate.ejb.HibernatePersistence</provider> ...   • How to Configure SSL over Database in Spring?

    - by Sameer Malhotra
Hi, I want to add SSL security in the Database layer. I am using Struts2.1.6, Spring 2.5, JBOSS 5.0 and Informix 11.5. Any idea how to do this? • Java: library that does nice formatted log outputs

    - by WizardOfOdds
I cannot find back a library that allowed to format log output statements in a much nicer way than what is usually seen. One of the feature I remember is that it could 'offset' the log message depending on the 'nestedness' of where the log statement was occuring. That is, instead of this: DEBUG | DefaultBeanDefinitionDocumentReader.java| 86 | Loading bean definitions DEBUG | AbstractAutowireCapableBeanFactory.java| 411 | Finished creating instance of bean 'MS-SQL' DEBUG | DefaultSingletonBeanRegistry.java| 213 | Creating shared instance of singleton bean 'MySQL' DEBUG | AutowireCapableBeanFactory.java| 383 | Creating instance of bean 'MySQL' DEBUG | AutowireCapableBeanFactory.java| 459 | Eagerly caching bean 'MySQL' to allow for resolving potential circular references DEBUG | AutowireCapableBeanFactory.java| 789 | Another debug message It would shows something like this: DEBUG | DefaultBeanDefinitionDocumentReader.java| 86 | Loading bean definitions DEBUG | AbstractAutowireCapableBeanFactory.java | 411 | Finished creating instance of bean 'MS-SQL' DEBUG | DefaultSingletonBeanRegistry.java | 213 | Creating shared instance of singleton bean 'MySQL' DEBUG | AutowireCapableBeanFactory.java | 383 | Creating instance of bean 'MySQL' DEBUG | AutowireCapableBeanFactory.java | 459 | |__ Eagerly caching bean 'MySQL' to allow for resolving potential circular references DEBUG | AutowireCapableBeanFactory.java | 789 | |__ Another debug message This is an example I just made up (VeryLongCamelCaseClassNamesNotMine). But I remember seeing such cleanly formatted log output and they were really much nicer than anything I had seen before and, in addition to being just plain nicer, they were also easier to read for they reproduced some of the logical organization of the code. Yet I cannot find anymore what that library was. I'm pretty sure it was fully compatible with log4j or sl4j.

So far we succesfully installed a Singleton EJB within the cluster, where different entrypoints to our application (through a website deployed on each node) point to a single environment on which the EJB is hosted (thus mantaining the state of static variables). We achieved this using the following configuration: Bean interface: @Remote public interface IUniverse { ... } Bean implementation: @Clustered @Stateful public class Universe implements IUniverse { private static Vector<String> messages = new Vector<String>(); ... } jboss-beans.xml configuration: <deployment xmlns="urn:jboss:bean-deployer:2.0"> <!-- This bean is an example of a clustered singleton --> <bean name="Universe" class="Universe"> </bean> <bean name="UniverseController" class="org.jboss.ha.singleton.HASingletonController"> <property name="HAPartition"><inject bean="HAPartition"/></property> <property name="target"><inject bean="Universe"/></property> <property name="targetStartMethod">startSingleton</property> <property name="targetStopMethod">stopSingleton</property> </bean> </deployment> The main problem for this implementation is that, after the master node (the one that contains the state of the singleton EJB) shuts down gracefuly, the Singleton's state is lost and reset to default. Please note that everything was constructed following the JBoss 5 Clustering documents, as no JBoss 6 documents were found on this subject. Any information on how to solve this problem or where to find JBoss 6 documention on clustering is appreciated.

  • Call DB Stored Procedure using @NamedStoredProcedureQuery Injection

    - by anwilson
Oracle Database Stored Procedure can be called from EJB business layer to perform complex DB specific operations. This approach will avoid overhead from frequent network hits which could impact end-user result. DB Stored Procedure can be invoked from EJB Session Bean business logic using org.eclipse.persistence.queries.StoredProcedureCall API. Using this approach requires more coding to handle the Session and Arguments of the Stored Procedure, thereby increasing effort on maintenance. EJB 3.0 introduces @NamedStoredProcedureQuery Injection to call Database Stored Procedure as NamedQueries. This blog will take you through the steps to call Oracle Database Stored Procedure using @NamedStoredProcedureQuery.EMP_SAL_INCREMENT procedure available in HR schema will be used in this sample.Create Entity from EMPLOYEES table.Add @NamedStoredProcedureQuery above @NamedQueries to Employees.java with definition as given below - @NamedStoredProcedureQuery(name="Employees.increaseEmpSal", procedureName = "EMP_SAL_INCREMENT", resultClass=void.class, resultSetMapping = "", returnsResultSet = false, parameters = { @StoredProcedureParameter(name = "EMP_ID", queryParameter = "EMPID"), @StoredProcedureParameter(name = "SAL_INCR", queryParameter = "SALINCR")} ) Observe how Stored Procedure's arguments are handled easily in  @NamedStoredProcedureQuery using @StoredProcedureParameter.Expose Entity Bean by creating a Session Facade.Business method need to be added to Session Bean to access the Stored Procedure exposed as NamedQuery. public void salaryRaise(Long empId, Long salIncrease) throws Exception { try{ Query query = em.createNamedQuery("Employees.increaseEmpSal"); query.setParameter("EMPID", empId); query.setParameter("SALINCR", salIncrease); query.executeUpdate(); } catch(Exception ex){ throw ex; } } Expose business method through Session Bean Remote Interface. void salaryRaise(Long empId, Long salIncrease) throws Exception; Session Bean Client is required to invoke the method exposed through remote interface.Call exposed method in Session Bean Client main method. final Context context = getInitialContext(); SessionEJB sessionEJB = (SessionEJB)context.lookup("Your-JNDI-lookup"); sessionEJB.salaryRaise(new Long(200), new Long(1000)); Deploy Session BeanRun Session Bean Client.Salary of Employee with Id 200 will be increased by 1000.

  • Why does @PostConstruct callback fire every time even though bean is @ViewScoped? JSF

    - by Nitesh Panchal
Hello, I am using datatable on page and using binding attribute to bind it to my backing bean. This is my code :- <?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8' ?> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xmlns:h="http://java.sun.com/jsf/html" xmlns:p="http://primefaces.prime.com.tr/ui"> <h:head> <title>Facelet Title</title> </h:head> <h:body> <h:form prependId="false"> <h:dataTable var="item" value="#{testBean.stringCollection}" binding="#{testBean.dataTable}"> <h:column> <h:outputText value="#{item}"/> </h:column> <h:column> <h:commandButton value="Click" actionListener="#{testBean.action}"/> </h:column> </h:dataTable> </h:form> </h:body> </html> This is my bean :- package managedBeans; import java.io.Serializable; import java.util.ArrayList; import java.util.List; import javax.annotation.PostConstruct; import javax.faces.bean.ManagedBean; import javax.faces.bean.ViewScoped; import javax.faces.component.html.HtmlDataTable; @ManagedBean(name="testBean") @ViewScoped public class testBean implements Serializable { private List<String> stringCollection; public List<String> getStringCollection() { return stringCollection; } public void setStringCollection(List<String> stringCollection) { this.stringCollection = stringCollection; } private HtmlDataTable dataTable; public HtmlDataTable getDataTable() { return dataTable; } public void setDataTable(HtmlDataTable dataTable) { this.dataTable = dataTable; } @PostConstruct public void init(){ System.out.println("Post Construct fired!!"); stringCollection = new ArrayList<String>(); stringCollection.add("a"); stringCollection.add("b"); stringCollection.add("c"); } public void action(){ System.out.println("Clicked!!"); } } Please tell me why is the @PostConstruct firing each and every time i click on button? It should fire only once as long as i am on same page beacause my bean is @ViewScoped. Further, if i remove the binding attribute then everything works fine and @PostConstruct callback fires only once. Then why every time when i use binding attribute? I need binding attribute and want to perform initialisation tasks like fetching data from webservice, etc only once. What should i do? Where should i write my initialisation task?

  • Injecting Entitymanager via XML and not annnotations.

    - by user355543
What I am trying to do is inject through XML almost the same way that is done through A @PersistenceContext annotation. I am in need of this because of the fact I have different entity managers I need to inject into the same DAO. The databases mirror one another and I would rather have 1 base class and for instances of that base class then create multiple classes just so I can use the @PersistenceContext annotation. Here is my example. This is what I am doing now and it works. public class ItemDaoImpl { protected EntityManager entityManager; public List<Item> getItems() { Query query = entityManager.createQuery("select i from Item i"); List<Item> s = (List<Item>)query.getResultList(); return s; } public void setEntityManger(EntityManager entityManager) { this.entityManager = entityManager; } } @Repository(value = "itemDaoStore2") public class ItemDaoImplStore2 extends ItemDaoImpl { @PersistenceContext(unitName = "persistence_unit_2") public void setEntityManger(EntityManager entityManager) { this.entityManager = entityManager; } } @Repository(value = "itemDaoStore1") public class ItemDaoImplStore1 extends ItemDaoImpl { @PersistenceContext(unitName = "persistence_unit_1") public void setEntityManger(EntityManager entityManager) { this.entityManager = entityManager; } } TransactionManagers, EntityManagers are defined below... <!-- Registers Spring's standard post-processors for annotation-based configuration like @Repository --> <context:annotation-config /> <!-- For @Transactional annotations --> <tx:annotation-driven transaction-manager="transactionManager1" /> <tx:annotation-driven transaction-manager="transactionManager2" /> <!-- This makes Spring perform @PersistenceContext/@PersitenceUnit injection: --> <bean class="org.springframework.orm.jpa.support.PersistenceAnnotationBeanPostProcessor"/> <!-- Drives transactions using local JPA APIs --> <bean id="transactionManager1" class="org.springframework.orm.jpa.JpaTransactionManager"> <property name="entityManagerFactory" ref="entityManagerFactory1" /> </bean> <bean id="transactionManager2" class="org.springframework.orm.jpa.JpaTransactionManager"> <property name="entityManagerFactory" ref="entityManagerFactory2" /> </bean> <bean id="entityManagerFactory1" class="org.springframework.orm.jpa.LocalContainerEntityManagerFactoryBean"> <property name="persistenceUnitName" value="persistence_unit_1"/> ... </bean> <bean id="entityManagerFactory2" class="org.springframework.orm.jpa.LocalContainerEntityManagerFactoryBean"> <property name="persistenceUnitName" value="persistence_unit_2"/> ... </bean> What I want to do is to NOT create classes ItemDaoImplStore2 or ItemDaoImplStore1. I want to have these as instances of ItemDaoImpl via xml instead. I do not know how to inject the entitymanager properly though. I want to simulate annotating this as a 'Repository' annotation, and I also want to be able to specify what entityManager to inject by the persistence unit name. I want something similar to the below using XML instead. <!-- Somehow annotate this instance as a @Repository annotation --> <bean id="itemDaoStore1" class="ItemDaoImpl"> <!-- Does not work since it is a LocalContainerEntityManagerFactoryBean--> <!-- Also I would perfer to do it the same way PersistenceContext works and only provide the persistence unit name. I would like to be able to specify persistence_unit_1--> <property name="entityManager" ref="entityManagerFactory1"/> </bean> <!-- Somehow annotate this instance as a @Repository annotation --> <bean id="itemDaoStore2" class="ItemDaoImpl"> <!-- Does not work since it is a LocalContainerEntityManagerFactoryBean--> <!-- Also I would perfer to do it the same way PersistenceContext works and only provide the persistence unit name. I would like to be able to specify persistence_unit_2--> <property name="entityManager" ref="entityManagerFactory2"/> </bean>

  • Starting jetty with spring xml as a background process/thread

    - by compass
My goal is to set up a jetty test server and inject a custom servlet to test some REST classes in my project. I was able to launch the server with spring xml and run tests against that server. The issue I'm having is sometimes after the server started, the process stopped at the point before running the tests. It seems jetty didn't go to background. It works every time on my computer. But when I deployed to my CI server, it doesn't work. It also doesn't work when I'm on VPN. (Strange.) The server should be completed initialized as when the tests stuck, I was able to access the server using a browser. Here is my spring context xml: .... <bean id="servletHolder" class="org.eclipse.jetty.servlet.ServletHolder"> <constructor-arg ref="courseApiServlet"/> </bean> <bean id="servletHandler" class="org.eclipse.jetty.servlet.ServletContextHandler"/> <!-- Adding the servlet holders to the handlers --> <bean id="servletHandlerSetter" class="org.springframework.beans.factory.config.MethodInvokingFactoryBean"> <property name="targetObject" ref="servletHandler"/> <property name="targetMethod" value="addServlet"/> <property name="arguments"> <list> <ref bean="servletHolder"/> <value>/*</value> </list> </property> </bean> <bean id="httpTestServer" class="org.eclipse.jetty.server.Server" init-method="start" destroy-method="stop" depends-on="servletHandlerSetter"> <property name="connectors"> <list> <bean class="org.eclipse.jetty.server.nio.SelectChannelConnector"> <property name="port" value="#{settings['webservice.server.port']}" /> </bean> </list> </property> <property name="handler"> <ref bean="servletHandler" /> </property> </bean> Running latest Jetty 8.1.8 server and Spring 3.1.3. Any idea?

  • JSF in jetty-equinox, Cannot find Bean classes in other bundles!

    - by Arnold
Hi I have problems running JSF in an OSGi environment. I am using jetty web container and equinox to provide the OSGi functionality. The structure of my application is as follows: The first bundle has all the JSF libs, web.xml and a config.xml. It looks as the following: bundle1 ----src/main/java -------de/package ----------Activator.java ----------JSFResolver.java ----src/main/resource ------ WebContent ----------META-INF -------------face-config.xml --------------web.xhtml ----------start.xhtml -----------include.xhtml ----libs (containing all JSF required Jars) The structure of the second bundle is as follows: bundle2 ---src/main/java ------de/package ----------Bean.java ---src/main/resource ------META-INF ---------face-config.xml ------WebContent ---------index.xhtml When running the application of equinox, the bundle1 is the main bundle where all the browser requests are sent to. In the second bundle, the 'index.xhtml' file can be retrieved the by first bundle upon request. The 'index.xhtml' in bundle 2 gets its values and properties from the 'Bean.java' in bundle 2. The problem comes when i request the 'index.xhtml', the Bean.java class is not found. I think this is because the class loader of bundle1 cannot find it, it has no knowledge of it. So i would like to ask if anyone knows how to solve this problem. If so please do assist me, i have tried all the possibilities i had.. Is it infact possible to have JSF run on multiple bundles using the same FaceletsContex? Can i be able to have seperate faces-config.xml files in each bundle, which can all be connected other faces-config.xml in other bundles? Can anyone please provide me a solution. Sample code would help. thanks workspace_current.rar Arnold

  • Can we have a component-scoped bean in a JSF2 composite component?

    - by Pradyumna
Hi, I was wondering how I could create "component-scoped" beans, or so-to-say, "local variables inside a composite component" that are private to the instance of the composite component, and live as long as that instance lives. Below are more details, explained with an example: Suppose there is a "calculator" component - something that allows users to type in a mathematical expression, and evaluates its value. Optionally, it also plots the associated function. I can make a composite component that has: a text box for accepting the math expression two buttons called "Evaluate", and "Plot" another nested component that plots the function It is evidently a self-contained piece of function; so that somebody who wants to use it may just say <math:expressionEvaluator /> But obviously, the implementation would need a java object - something that evaluates the expression, something that computes the plot points, etc. - and I imagine it can be a bean - scoped just for this instance of this component, not a view-scoped or request-scoped bean that is shared across all instances of the component. How do I create such a bean? Is that even possible with composite components?

  • Spring Test / JUnit problem - unable to load application context

    - by HDave
I am using Spring for the first time and must be doing something wrong. I have a project with several Bean implementations and now I am trying to create a test class with Spring Test and JUnit. I am trying to use Spring Test to inject a customized bean into the test class. Here is my test-applicationContext.xml: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <beans xmlns="............."> <bean id="MyUuidFactory" class="com.myapp.UuidFactory" scope="singleton" > <property name="typeIdentifier" value="CLS" /> </bean> <bean id="ThingyImplTest" class="com.myapp.ThingyImplTest" scope="singleton"> <property name="uuidFactory"> <idref local="MyUuidFactory" /> </property> </bean> </beans> The injection of MyUuidFactory instance goes along with the following code from within the test class: private UuidFactory uuidFactory; public void setUuidFactory(UuidFactory uuidFactory) { this.uuidFactory = uuidFactory; } However, when I go to run the test (in Eclipse or command line) I get the following error (stack trace omitted for brevity): Caused by: org.springframework.beans.factory.BeanCreationException: Error creating bean with name 'MyImplTest' defined in class path resource [test-applicationContext.xml]: Initialization of bean failed; nested exception is org.springframework.beans.ConversionNotSupportedException: Failed to convert property value of type 'java.lang.String' to required type 'com.myapp.UuidFactory' for property 'uuidFactory'; nested exception is java.lang.IllegalStateException: Cannot convert value of type [java.lang.String] to required type [com.myapp.UuidFactory] for property 'uuidFactory': no matching editors or conversion strategy found Funny thing is, the Eclipse/Spring XML editor shows errors of I misspell any of the types or idrefs. If I leave the bean in, but comment out the dependency injection, everything work until I get a NullPointerException while running the test...which makes sense.

The definition in faces-config is as below - <managed-bean> <managed-bean-name>signoutNavigation</managed-bean-name> <managed-bean-class>com.xxx.xxx.framework.NavigationItem</managed-bean-class> <managed-bean-scope>none</managed-bean-scope> <managed-property> <property-name>label</property-name> <value>Sign Out</value> </managed-property> <managed-property> <property-name>viewId</property-name> <value>/signout.jsp</value> </managed-property> <managed-property> <property-name>outcome</property-name> <value>signout</value> </managed-property> <managed-property> <property-name>onclick</property-name> <value>closeOrderWindows()</value> </managed-property> </managed-bean> The problem is when I use the "onclick" property on managed-bean, the page doesn't submit to "signout.jsp" and remains on same page. When I remove/comment the "onclick" part, the page gets submitted properly. I use MyFaces Trinidad.
