• Easy way to keep counting up infinitely

  What's a good way to keep counting up infinitely? I'm trying to write a condition that will keep going until there's no value in a database, so it's going to iterate from 0, up to theoretically infinity (inside a try block, of course). How would I count upwards infinitely? Or should I use something else? I am looking for something similar to i++ in other languages, where it keeps iterating until failure.

• TCP RST Reset Every 5 Minutes on Windows 2003 sp2

  Hey, Recently I had a web developer come to me and ask why he was receiving connection errors in his app that was accessing a sql database. So, I went through my normal trouble shooting steps to isolate or reproduce the issue. I discovered that if I connected to the database using Query Analyzer and let the connection idle for 5 minutes it would disconnect. Meaning... I would no longer be able to refresh my tables or any other object/node within the object browser in Query Analyzer. I would have to right click on the instance and refresh for it to re-establish the connection. Next I went to wireshark and ran a capture on the client pc's nic card. Sure enough it was receiving a TCP RST reset every 5 min if the connection idled longer than 5 min. I also ran a capture on the SQL Server and noticed the TCP RST reset command as well. Attached below is the capture from the client Machine. If someone could please assist... That would be great. -I checked all settings within SQL Server 2000 against another server and they all seem to be the same. -Issue does not occur if I connect to any other SQL server 2000 server. -Issue does not occur if connecting to SQL on the server itself... so only over the network. -I consulted with network team and this is the response back: There are no firewalls or proxies in between SQL Server and your desktop. The traffic flows like this: Desktop-Access Switch-Distro Switch-Core Switch-Datacenter Switch-SQL Server None of the switches have security ACL’s configured on them. Also they stated that NAT was not turned on. -Issue does not occur with SQL server Enterprise Manager. -Ran SQL Profiler at the same time and did not see anything out of the ordinary during the RST I HAVE SEARCHED HIGH AND LOW ON GOOGLE FOR A RESOLUTION FOR THIS ISSUE. • Disable (or switch off) a network interface on windows but keep the "plug and play"

  I'm looking for a good workaround to do this on Windows 7 and Windows XP: Disable or make ineffective the network interface (ETH, WIFI, any NIC). If the user connect his ETH cable, the network interface enable again. Important Notes to take care: I'm working with wmic on Win7 (through the command line) I'm working with devcon on WinXP (through the command line) I'm specifically working with the .NET Framework 2.0 on C# but this is just for informational purposes. I know that an event won't help me to detect it (if there is a way or workaround to do this I don't know it). The real problem is that when I disable the NIC, I can't know if the user connects his cable or has a wired network. This is why I am looking for a workaround. I'll treat suggestions as answers if no direct answer exists. I'll provide any extra detail necessary.

• I keep losing wireless connection

  I have a WRT54GL v1.1 wireless router and a WUSB54G v4 wireless adapter, both made by Linksys. The router is in the living room by the TV and the my computer is in the bedroom. My ISP is Brighthouse. Operating System Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1 CPU Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 @ 2.40GHz 36 °C Conroe 65nm Technology RAM 3.00GB Single-Channel DDR2 @ 333MHz (5-4-4-14) Motherboard eMachines EMCP73VT-PM (CPU 1) 26 °C Graphics ASUS VS247 (1920x1080@60Hz) 767MB GeForce GTX 460 (nVidia) 43 °C Hard Drives 466GB Seagate ST350041 8AS SCSI Disk Device (SATA) 35 °C Optical Drives HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH41N SCSI CdRom Device Audio High Definition Audio Device The problem is that my Internet connection will work fine for 15 minutes or so. Then the data will just stop flowing. Windows says I am still connected, and the systray icon still shows five bars. But Comodo Firewall will stop showing up and down traffic, and another of my systray applications complains about a lack of connection. What I usually do is either disconnect from the network manually, or unplug and re-plug the USB adapter. At which point the connection will work properly for another 15 minutes. I've tried unplugging my router for 30 seconds and letting it reboot. I've also tried looking for a newer driver for my adapter but I seem to have the latest version 3.1.3.0. This is a recent problem starting about a week ago. For the previous several months things were working just fine. I haven't made any changes to my system that I am aware of. The only thing I did was open my case to blow the dust out of it, then put everything back together. How do I fix this issue?

• Why does my audio keep reverting to stereo?

  I have an ASUS P7P55D LE motherboard with onboard sound and I am running Windows 7 64-bit, and I am using the SPDIF output from my motherboard to my receiver. On my receiver I can see which audio channels are in use (i.e. stereo or 5.1) In the audio interface properties I can test DTS Audio and Dolby Digital outputs and both work fine, but when I try to play a game with 5.1 sound (I've tried Left 4 Dead and Dragon Age Origins) it reverts to stereo. I was getting this behaviour with the default Microsoft drivers so I installed the latest from the ASUS website but there is no difference. I notice that in the Advanced tab the Default Format only allows me to choose from various 2 channel formats so maybe that is something to do with it? How can I get 5.1 output all of the time?

  My web app runs on windows 2003 .Net 3.5 I have users from Israel (GMT +2), and Israel switched to Daylight saving time on 26/3/10 so now it's (GMT +3). I use TimeZoneInfo.ConvertTime that doesn’t know the Daylight saving time switch is on 26/3/10 so it still converts to GMT +2. I asked on StackOverflow: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2530834/problem-with-timezoneinfo-converttime-missed-the-daylight-saving-switch/2532104#2532104 And I was told that I need to update: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Time Zones\Israel Standard Time\Dynamic DST I found this update: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/976098 That supposes to fix the Dynamic DST for 2010, Is this the update I need? Where can I find an update that handles 2011 2012… ? Will I need to update my windows every year to get the DST right? Thanks.

  I have a laptop running linux. In my xorg configuration, I have DPMS setup so that the screen automatically turns off during several events. Here's my issue. When I close the lid of the laptop, the screen goes off as expected, but if a mouse event occurs (like if something bumps into the table...) then the screen turns back on even though it is closed (I can see the light through the side of the laptop). Is there a way to prevent the screen from turning on during a mouse event if the lid is closed?

  We run Ubuntu Lucid 10.0.4 as the foundation of our LAMP environment. We are trying to become PCI compliant so that we can pass CC info through our server. We have run some third-party scans on our servers to begin the certification process and have run into errors regarding PHP 5 versions and Apache versions. The latest PHP version hosted in our official lucid repository is about 10 versions lower than what PCI compliance requires. How do we upgrade to stay current with PCI compliance requirements? We need to get from php 5.3.2 to php 5.3.15 As well as up to apache 2.2.23 I've searched far and wide for an answer and haven't come up with a realistic answer. Some recommend compiling manually - which sounds like a nightmare, and others recommend a PPA - which sounds insecure. What should we do?

  I use EMET to secure a number of applications on my computer - web browsers, Office suite applications, PDF readers, as well as Adobe Flash. Overall it's working great, except that the Flash executables contain the version number in the file name, so every time there's an update, the file names change and I have to remember to re-add them manually to EMET. Is there a way to streamline this process? EMET does support wildcards, but only in the path itself, not the file name, so something like %windir%\system32\Macromed\Flash\*.exe wouldn't work. Is there any other way to add a whole folder to EMET so that any new executables in that folder are automatically secured?

  I have an old r51 which i boot off usb. Apparently, if i have a toshiba 2gb thumbdrive similar to this plugged in, or an old imation 1gb drive plugged in, it won't boot at all- it freezes in the bios loading screen until its unplugged. I need to try it on another system but i'm wondering what could be causing it- since i suppose this is at a lower level than filesystem, and the drives work fine otherwise - even being readable if inserted after the system is booted from another source, with neither drive plugged in

  I'm having the exact same problem. I am running Windows 7, Outlook 2007 (Office 2007 pro) and I'm connecting to our Exchange Server 2007 which is part of Small Business Server 2008 Outlook 2007 on a client keeps asking for the password to the remote access URL. If I simply click cancel it's OK for a few minutes. Entering the password and clicking the save PW box does no good. Sometimes clicking cancel results in another dilog box asking the same thing and I may have to click cancel several times to get it to go away for a while. Occasionally Outlook may actually go into a mode where it says it needs the password typed so I click the link which brings the dilog back but simply clicking cancel will make Outlook connect again. can anyone help me thanks

However, sometimes instead of loading the parsed PHP file, the browser displays a download box instead. Now whenever i plug in my E71 i choose PC suite. i go to Oviplayer in my laptop. and i select the mobile phone section and i press the connect button, automatically my phone is disconnected via USB. the alternative is to choose media transfer or media player. The same thing happens. And the connecting screen at Ovi player is like hanged. I have previously transferred songs, but only twice. first time this has happened to me. I do not know why.   I set up haproxy logging via rsyslogd using the tips from this article, and everything seems to be working fine. The log files get the log messages. However, every log message from haproxy also shows up at /var/log/syslog. This means that once the server goes live, the syslog will be quite useless, as it will be run over with haproxy log messages. I would like to filter out those messages from /var/log/syslog. After going over the rsyslogd documentation, I tried to change the file /etc/rsyslog.d/50-default.conf thus: *.*;auth,authpriv.none;haproxy.none -/var/log/syslog I simply added the ;haproxy.nonepart. After restarting rsyslogd it stopped working completely until I reverted my changes. What am I doing wrong?

• `:Zone.Identifier` files keep on appearing in Windows XP virtual machine

  I have a Windows XP Home Edition guest and a Linux Mint 13 host. I use VirtualBox and the ~/Public directory is shared with the guest. It sometimes happens that I use IE on the guest system to download files (until I get a better Windows browser). All of the downloaded files go the the L:\ drive (the ~/Public directory). When they are finished downloading, Windows Explorer adds a :Zone.Identifier file for each file I download. When I extract a downloaded ZIP archive on the guest (on drive L:\), Windows creates a :Zone.Identifier file for every file in the extracted directory. This even occurs if I use the host to move a file to the ~/Public directory. The shared ~/Public directory is on an ext4 partition and the colon character is supposed to be illegal in file names in Windows, but not on the ext4 partition. Is there any way to stop Windows from putting all this rubbish on my filesystem? (I might have to create a shell script to clean up after Windows' act.) Here is what I see in Windows Explorer: By the way, if I were running a Mac OS X host (where colons are illegal file name characters) this would be even more horrendous.

• xorg DPMS off: keep VT from turning screen back on

  I have an embedded board with a small UPS. When AC power goes down, I need to turn off all power hungry devices in order to have a clean shutdown. First thing I do, is set DPMS to force powerdown, then go through the usual SIGTERM/SIGKILL/umount sequence. I have an Intel i915 Display adapter connected to an LVDS LCD panel. Unfortunately, when Xorg dies, Xserver or the VT code turn the LCD panel back on. I even tried working around it by directly poking the panel enable register in the Display chip, so that X doesn't know about it, but the panel goes back on when the VT comes back. Is there any "legal" way of keeping the display off? Thank you

• Windows Server 2003: smtp and ftp services keep shutting down after a while

  If I go into the IIS manager and start ftp and smtp, after about an hour or so they will have been shutdown. There is nothing in the event viewer to explain why they would shut down. IIS webserver continues to run with no problem. I don't see any options in their configuration that would cause this. Any tips on how to troubleshoot this?

• Keep chrome extensions icons permanently ordered

  I like to have the extensions like Gmail Checker and Google Voice checker closest to my eyes, therefore closer to the url bar. I have tried disabling and enabling extensions to order them correctly, but once I close chrome, they appear in a different order (always the same undesirable "different" order). Is there a way to prevent them from rearranging themselves? Thanks
