• Why would e-mail from our own domain not be forwarded to gmail

  To solve a problem with spam on our server we tried to forward e-mail from our dedicated server's mailserver(matrix smtp service) to gmail, but while most e-mails got through e-mail from our own domain all went missing. They weren't in the inbox or spam or anywhere else. We've had to go back to using the old system, which means my boss gets a huge amount of spam. We have a windows 2003 server with iis 6 and the matrix smtp service installed. I've toyed with the idea of installing a mail proxy like ASSP but it looks pretty complicated. We're hosting 20 domains on the server as well as our own which has an online shop whose payment system depends on email. I can't start playing around with complicated solutions when it could have disastrous consequences and I don't know enough to implement them safely. So my question has two parts: Part One: Why can't we forward e-mails from people using the same domain. If our domain was foobar.com then [email protected] can't receive from [email protected], but he can receive from everyone else. Part Two: Is there a really simple server side solution to spam that would work with matrix? For instance popfile?

• Are there webcam with their own IP address?

  I am looking for a small, rugged web-cam, which can be hand-held or perhaps mountable. It must have its own IP address so that anyone can view its video stream from a web browser. I would prefer 2 way voice communication too. Encryption of data is nice, as is compression (H.264). Maybe also remote control, like causing it to zoom from the browser.   I host my own multiple Websites on my server. How do i setup my own child nameserver? There are 4 different websites, with .com and .net and .ro at the end. I moved them to my own server. My Domain Administration (Registrar) let's me define my own child nameserver with my own IP and i've added my nameserver as my domain nameservers list. ns.something.ro as the first and only in the nameservers list ns.something.ro with my own IP address as the child nameserver I've setup everything and it works (kind of). When i use my ns IP adress directly i can of course access everything. Using "normal" external dnses will not work. As expected others on the web can't resolve correctly. What's wrong? Am i missing something?

  On my first job interview, I was asked why did I build my own CMS? Why not to use one of existing CMS, Wordpress, Joomla, Drupal...? At first, I was stunned. I couldn't immediately recall all of my reasons for building my own CMS, but this was definitely one of the main reasons: It's my code and if I want to change something in that CMS (which I often have to do, because each website I build needs CMS with different functions) it's not a big problem. For some time I've been using Wordpress and one of the main things that distracted me from using it was discovering bugs in code that wasn't written by me and this bugs were often, especially if I made some changes to CMS or added a plugin... Here, I can find these 8 reasons why NOT to build own CMS: It won’t meet users’ needs It’s too much work It won’t be a standard solution It won’t be extendible fast enough It won’t be tested well enough It won’t be easily changeable It won’t add any value Create content, not functionality Quote from the same page: So the main question to ask yourself is: ‘Why am I really trying to re-solve a problem that has already been solved before?’ Well, I definitely agree that it's hard to invent CMS that hasn't been already invented, but on other hand, I think every CMS is (or should be) individual... it maybe won't have a million of functions, it will have 3 functions but their usage will be clear (to a user) and do all that one site needs to have. I think also that it is not good to give to a client a CMS with a lot of functions that are never used and it looks probably more professional when website and CMS together look like one product.   I posted on stackoverflow as to the overall benefits of managed hosting vs non-managed hosting. The more I think about it, it seems to boil down to one question: should I use a managed host because they take care of the firewall, or would I be okay managing my own, software firewall? The sites on the box do get quite a lot of traffic but as for throughput and what-not, it's not something I know much about. Ideally, i'd take my sites over to a Linode stack and manage incoming connections using iptables or an alternative. Here are some example hardware solutions a managed host would provide: Cisco Pix 501, Pix 506, Pix 515 and ASA 5505 and ASA 5510 Firewalls, configurable in a control panel the likes of an enterprise firewall such as FortiGate 110C Aside from this, I do not need managed hosting, so I appreciate your suggestions.

I connect to my website in my very same computer A, and request to download a file of size 1Mb, in otherwords, I am connecting to my own computer and want to download a file in my computer. In addition, my internet access is bound by a proxy server in a way of gateway. The questions are - does the file transfer really exist? Or is it a local file copying between 2 location? So far I can achieve this through a number of IAM policies, letting them list all mfa devices and list users (so that they can find themselves in the IAM console and ... • Make own dial-up ISP using broadband connection [on hold]

  So, I see no reason why this wouldn't be possible. I have a Linux server (a Raspberry Pi to be exact) connected via Ethernet to a broadband ISP. I want to be able to dial a number, have it go through the normal telephone network, onto the Internet via a VoIP provider (I know you can call a Skype user from a landline), to my Raspberry Pi, and then have the Pi connect me to the Internet. I've found guides on making your own ISP, but they all involve a dedicated phone line on the server end. Is there a way to do this with no modem on the server end? I live in an area with a lot of people still on dialup, and if I pull this off I could make some extra money. Thanks!

• MacBook Pro Trackpad freeze / holds click on its own

  My MacBook Pro's Trackpad shows an annoying behavior in the last few days. I think the only relevant thing that changed is the firmware for the Trackpad. An update has been distributed via Software Update a few days ago. Sometimes when i click somewhere the Trackpad won't recognize the mouseup, i.e. hold the click on its own. Clicking again seems to stop the holding and issue a new mousedown, but then again, no mouseup I.e. when i click on a file on the desktop the file will be dragged. But i can't stop dragging! Clicking in a browser or text document will select the text/images. Did anyone notice similar behavior? Any ideas or fixes?

  Where can I find local dedicated hosting space for my own hardware? I know I can rent dedicated hosting from various companies online, but usually I think that means I'm renting their hardware too. I just need a space with a network connection and a power outlet. That's it. How much would this cost? What would I search for? Is it available easily? Or would it only be the sort of thing huge companies would do? I'm in the greater NYC area. It's for a project I'm working on, but the thing's loud and annoying. I'd be willing to pay a little to get it out of sight and out of mind. I don't even care too much about the quality of the network connection. I'd rather not rent other people's hardware cause it probably would cost a fortune to rent a machine like this (tons of ram).
