  • Web service access fails when users password is in warning period

    We have a number of locally installed .Net apps that communicate via web services. Authentication in IIS is handled by Windows Authentication so no additional login is required. We recently began seeing a problem where users are getting a application 403 error when there password is 14 days (or less) from expiring. As this sometime happens in the the middle of the day (login in the morning OK, but password reaches <14 days during the day), this comes as a surprise as they haven't been warned to change their password. Of course, one would expect they should be able to work until the password is expired. Any idea on what could be happening here? Why would IIS reject a login if the passsword hasn't actually expired?     I have a user that repeatedly has this issue. A 3 month password change is enforced on the domain, but when the user changes his, Office 2003 will re-ask for the POP account password, even though it has not changed. Entering the correct POP account password causes it to repeatedly fail. If you go and change the POP password and enter the new one, then it is fine. He's the only one with this issue, but also the only user with both an Exchange and POP account. Any ideas guys? Thanks in advance :)

    I have to run this command to initialize gitosis: sudo -H -u git gitosis-init < /home/ec2-user/id_rsa.pub But that asks me for a password for ec2-user: $ sudo -H -u git gitosis-init < id_rsa.pub [sudo] password for ec2-user: I do not have a password as i use the default .pem key file to login. I know i can probably login as the git user and do this, but is there any other way? Update: Using Linux AMI 12.09 (micro-instance), in region us-east-1 (N. Virginia)

  • Network Password Recovery

    I am trying to recover a password for my network. It's set up like this: a network of computers, and a central server which authenticates login-passwords entered, and is also a network share. Username looks like administrator@abc. I tried to recover the password hashes from the individual CPUs, they gave this : FAFEA8FAF0D8D61FAAD3B435B51404EE. This decodes to GAGCAU and a null hash after. This password does not work for logging in to the network. Is there a way to recover the password for the network share from a non-admin network account?   • Experiences with Ubuntu One?

    I'm currently testing several backup/sync services: Dropbox, SpiderOak and Ubuntu One. Of them, Dropbox is the winner hands down; SpiderOak is nice too, but a bit more intrusive and unpredictable (sometimes is slow in syncing some files, or doesn't sync them at all). Ubuntu One has promise, but I've used it much less than the other two. I'm thinking about buying a "20 pack" and using Ubuntu One as my only synchronization software. It's the cheapest of them all (3$/month vs 10$ in Dropbox and SpiderOak), and 20GB of space is enough for me. My intention is to sync most of my $HOME folder. All the computers I'll connect will have Ubuntu installed, so not being multiplatform doesn't really matter to me. If its performance is as good as Dropbox's, I'm sold. But I'd like to gauge some experiences here first. Is anyone using it seriously? I.e., to sync a lot of files that change often (like the aforementioned $HOME folder, program sources, or something alike). What have been your experiences? Thanks in advance.

    I'm using Ubuntu 10.10, fully updated. I have tried to sync my ~/Documents and ~/Pictures folders; U1 replicates the directory structure, but no files are uploaded. Next I tried to sync a single file inside ~/Ubuntu One and it was synced. Then I tried to put a directory inside ~/Ubuntu One and, again, the directory structure was replicated, but no files were synced. All the files have the "syncing" icon, however.   • Installing Ubuntu One on Ubuntu 11.10 server

    I have installed "Ubuntu One" on an Ubuntu server 11.10 based on these instructions: How do I configure Ubuntu one on a 11.10 server? Everything went smooth during installation.     I have a desktop running Maverick, and a laptop running Lucid. Both are supposed to be linked to my Ubuntu One account. The desktop syncs fine, but when I started the laptop for the first time in a couple of months, it wouldn't sync any more. The Ubuntu One Preferences window either reports "Synchronisation complete" even though no recent files have been downloaded nor have any test files created in the relevant synced folder been uploaded, or it says "Synchronisation in progress", which does not appear to be happening as it stays like this for ages and the lights on my router suggest no traffic is going through. Have repeatedly tried disconnecting and reconnecting, and removing the device from the account then reattaching it, all to no avail.

    Hi! I just tried out using the Ubuntu One Contacts app for android. First I imported all the contacts from my phone, SIM-card and Google mail account, then I spent quite a while removing duplicates which got imported. Then I tried to sync it for the first time. The strange thing is that I also got all the contacts which I removed from my contacts list on the website. So I have to set "show only contacts with phone numbers" to get all the email adresses I imported from google ealier to not show up, even though I deleted them from the contacts list and have only Ubuntu One contacts showing. Why is that? Thank you!

  • Time jumping forward on NTP failure

    I have been having some weird problems with NTP for a while. If I use ntpdate to set the time then it sets fine. ntpd then invariably fails to find a server (I have loads configured) and decides to set the clock forward about 5 hours. It's a Xen server with dom0 set to a different timezone so I'm not sure if that is interfering with it. How can I make sure I ignore the dom0 time and have ntpd not change the time if it fails to reach a time server? EDIT: I now do not think it is ntpd giving me problems, I turned ntpd off and it jumped forward seemingly randomly.

    I'm on a windows 7 (64) machine right now, I have the Ubuntu One windows application. I'm synced to my online account, the folder I am accessing is... deja-dup\My-desktop When I click 'Sync Locally' checkbox and explore my folder I am only able to see three files of the form duplicity-full.#######.manifest.gpg duplicity-full.#######.vol1.difftar.gpg duplicity-full-signatures.#######.sigtar.gpg How do I access the content of these file? I put them on a linux server and decrypted them/ extracted them, however something is wrong. Note: I cannot use apt-get on the linux server I'm using.   • Upgraded to 11.10 lost personal folders, Ubuntu one shows no files

    Upgraded to 11.04, from 10.10 system would only come up in terminal mode, but it told me that an additional upgrade was available and did I want to do that. Foolishly thinking that might fix the problem, I said yes. This time it did not make it all the way through the upgrade, when I came back to the computer over an hour later, the screen was filled with an error message "could not open display", had to reboot. Went to recovery mode on reboot to install nvidia module, when I rebooted system came up fine, but without carrying over my personal folders, I have the home folder, but no personal named folder in it. Came to Ubuntu One, but gives error message; File Sync error. (org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked Is the a way around this in order to restore my files? I know my files existed on Ubuntu one as of a few months ago.

  • can't download music files purchased with ubuntu one from rhythmbox

    I used the link to Ubuntu One in Rhythmbox music player to purchase music. On the My Downloads page from Ubuntu One in the Rhythmbox it shows each of the files I purchased with and mp3 button and an AAC button. I should be able to download the files from these buttons but when I click on the button nothing happens - I was expecting a download manager to open up. I also was expecting the files to be transferred to my UbuntuOne account but don't see anything there either. (this is probably a second question) I am using 12.04 beta version of Ubuntu and the version of Rhythmbox that came with it: 2.96. Do I need to install something to be able to download these links?   • "Time Control" in a 2d Platformer

    I am making a 2d platformer where the player can press a button, and restart the level, only their previous character will also run the level at the same time, like they are traveling back in time. I know other games have done this before, and the way I have thought of doing it is to make the game character have a set of actions (Idle, Jumping, Walking Left etc.) and then detect changes in those actions and log them into a list along with the game time. So then when I need the character to run the level again on its own, I can just go through the list changing its actions at the right time. Is this the best way to do it? Does anyone have any experience in this? Thanks.

  • Can't login to Ubuntu One

    I uninstalled Ubuntu One about two months ago and now I re-installed it. I can still login with my account through the site (Ubuntu One) but the client keeps telling me "The authentication failed". If I try to use the Recover password option it also fails with telling me that my email address is not recognized (while I can use it with zero issues through the site) If I attempt to create a new account from the client, it also fails to load the captcha every time. Something is clearly broken here but I can't figure out what it is. Any ideas?
