  • Custom field not showing in Custom Content Type

    Hi all: I created a custom column in a custom content type in a Sharepoint Web manually (e.g. /MySite/MyWeb). I now want to programmatically copy this content type across to another web (e.g. /MySite/MyWeb2). However, upon looping through the custom content type in code, I could only find 2 fields: Content Type and Title (expected: Title and custom column). The custom column was missing. I'm very sure that the content type and field are added at the web level. The custom content type is inherited from Item. When I loop through the web's fields, I can see the custom column, and that was copied to the new web. It is only within the content type that the custom column is not showing up. Any ideas why this is happening? Thanks.

  • SharePoint - DIP problem on local copies downloaded from the portal

    Our users have issues where the Document Information Panel(DIP) appears on Word, Excel, PPT documents. Here is the scenario: User downloads a copy of a template from the portal to his/her local hard drive. User edits that template and renames the file, again saving it to his/her local drive. User continues to edit and update that new document, and it continues to prompt him/her for document information as if the user was saving it on the portal. User clicks the “X” to remove this DIP bar, the next time he/she opens the local file it comes back. Is there anything I can do to make the DIP NOT SHOW on the local copies? Thanks!

    Hi Everybody, I have saved a site as tempalte (i.e. MyMarketing.stp) and added to sharepoint server using stsadm addtemplate command and after few days lost MyMarketing.stp file. Now it is available for creating top level sites as well. I want to get this site template back as MyMarketing.stp file. Is it possible to extract it from the server as MyMarketing.stp file?   • How to Edit Permission on "Create" in MOSS07?

    When you go to Lists, and Create. I'd like to show the "Custom Lists" column only to specific group. I don't want the users to be able to create Web Pages, Document Libs .. etc But I'm not able to see how, I tried to create a custom group and edit permission level, but I cant find where exactly. does enabling "Create" to specific group opens all settings inside that you can't eliminate certain settings from showing to this group?.

    Hi all: Following this post which I posted some time ago, I now get the same error every time I try to rewire 2 web's URLs. Basically, this is the code. When I run this for the first time, I received the Exception mentioned in the subject. However, every run after, I do not see the exception anymore. The webs DO get rewired... but at the cost of the app dying an unnecessary and terrible death. I'm at a complete lost as to what is going on and needs urgent help. Does sharepoint keep any hidden table from me or is the logic above has fatal problems? Thanks.

    How to hide Lists from specific group, but at the same time allow them to add items in it?. I edited permission levels for the site and created a permission that has these privileges: List Permissions: Add Items, View Items. Site Permissions: View Pages, Open. And then assign this permission to the group along with View Only. However this would still show Lists and the users are able to access them. How can I hide it from this specific group only?.

In my web part I am trying to access values in the appSetting section: I've tried all of the code below and each returns null: string Owner = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings.Get("MFOwner"); string stuff1 = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["MFOwner"]; string stuff3 = WebConfigurationManager.AppSettings["MFOwner"]; string stuff4 = WebConfigurationManager.AppSettings.Get("MFOwner"); string stuff2 = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["MFowner".ToString()]; I've tried this code I found: NameValueCollection sAll; sAll = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings; string a; string b; foreach (string s in sAll.AllKeys) { a = s; b = sAll.Get(s); } and stepped through it in debug mode - that is getting things like : FeedCacheTimer FeedPageURL FeedXsl1 ReportViewerMessages which is NOT coming from anything in my web.config file....maybe a config file in sharepoint itself?     Hi there, In my email today I got the following: The My Site of is scheduled for deletion. As their manager you are now the temporary owner of their site. This temporary ownership gives you access to the site to copy any business-related information you might need. To access the site use this URL: http://mysites.freud.com/personal/ I click on the link and I can see that there site is there. I do not want there site to be deleted at all what can I do.   • How do I distinguish a SharePoint file update as being from a file upload?

    In SharePoint, when an item is first added to a document library, it fires the ItemAdded and ItemAdding events as expected. And if you upload the same filename to update the existing file, it will fire off ItemUpdated and ItemUpdating events, likewise as expected. However, I have been unsuccessful at determining whether this kind of action has actually occurred or not. Or, more specifically, I am entirely unable to differentiate between the following: An item is updated because someone uploaded a new file but did nothing to any of the form fields. An item is updated because someone hit "OK" but did nothing to any of the form fields. Is there actually a way to distinguish these kinds of updates? There appears to be nothing in event properties that contains this information, nor in the version history for both the list item and the file itself. I have even tried comparing the files themselves via OpenBinary(), but in both mentioned cases I still get the same result. Thank you in advance for any help!

  • How can I tell whether a webpart that has been deployed to a site is a native webpart that ships wit

    I have a SharePoint 2007 MOSS instance, and I'm on a fact-finding mission. There have been multiple developers, developing multiple webparts and deploying them (using VS2005/2008 SharePoint Extensions). I thought maybe I could look at the fields in the "Web Part Gallery" list in my site, and look by "Modified by", but it looks like a developer's name is on some of the out-of-the-box webparts somehow, and on ones I know are custom developed, they say "System Account" - so looking at that field in this list is a no go. I thought then maybe I could look at the "Group" to which each webpart was assigned but it looks like they were arbitrarily assigned to many different groups inconsistently - so using that piece of information is a no go. Here is my code I have for just looping through and getting the names of all the webparts. Is there any property I can access on the list items of webparts that would tell me whether it's a custom developed webpart? Any way to distinguish the custom webparts from the out-of-the-box ones?     Hi, I have and old content database which i restored in my sharepoint 2007. But whenver i try to access web sites in my sharepoint i get error : 500 INTERNAL SERVER ERROR. I can see the old content database at :- Sharepoint Centre Admin-Application Management-Content databases. There is no difference in the version of the old content database. I have added a custom property to the web part like so: [Personalizable(PersonalizationScope.Shared)] [WebBrowsable(true)] [Category("My Custom Properties")] [WebDisplayName("ServiceURL")] [WebDescription("The URL for the Wcf service")] public string ServiceURL { get; set; } Along with this web part, I've added a custom page that the web part will have a link to. I would like to reference the web part property from the custom page, but I don't know where these properties are stored. I've tried to access it using the code below, but both property collections don't have any properties stored. SPFeaturePropertyCollection spProperties = SPContext.Current.Site.Features[this.FeatureGuid].Properties; or SPFeaturePropertyCollection spProperties = SPContext.Current.Site.Features[this.FeatureGuid].Definition.Properties; My question is how can I get a reference to the web part property from other pages?

  • Redirecting user from an old web to another in Sharepoint

    Hi all: I want to add the ability to redirect users when they visit certain old sites. The URL of the old sites are unknown, but the server name is the same, e.g. Old site url: http://sharepoint/mySite/default.aspx New site url: http://sharepoint/myNewSite/... There are a lot of other pages within mySite, most of which must be redirected to the new site, but there are exceptions (e.g. user can still view the documents within the site). I thought I have to do this programmatically by somehow capturing the http request and read the url myself. Being no sharepoint guru, I had a quick google, and found that writing a web part is prehaps the best alternative for my situation. But I'm just wondering, given my situation and needs, is writing a web part, or something programmatically, really the ideal solution? Or is there a faster and quicker way to achieve what I want using Sharepoint? Thanks.
