• Windows Media Center doesn't see my movies

  I am trying to configure my Windows Media Center (Windows 7 Ultimate). I selected folder with my movies and added it to the library, but when I went to the movies library, it says "There are no items in this library yet - Windows Media Center is searching for media files in the background...". I have all necessary codecs installed, Windows Media Player opens those movies correctly. When I right click on the file - Open with - Windows Media Center it also plays them without any problem. Any ideas why they don't appear in the libraries?

• Windows Media Center command line options?

  Is there a command line interface to Windows Media Center in Windows 7. I have an SSH daemon installed on my media center box and would love to be able log in via SSH and get the list of upcoming recordings. As it is, I need to use Remote Desktop and then tell Media Center to run in GDI mode to display the upcoming recordings which is slow and cumbersome. Here are interesting commands that I'm wondering about: List upcoming recordings List most recent recordings Status of scheduler I'd rather not have to install Remote Potato to accomplish this.

• Media Center is sending duplicate #'s when changing channels

  I recently switched from cable to DirecTV (satellite). I went through the "Set up TV signal" in Media Center, and I went through the manual setup of the remote as it didn't recognize the DirecTV remote. All seemed okay, except sometimes (often - about 1/2 the time) when I select a channel in Media Center's guide it sends 5527 instead of 527 or 5446 instead of 546 - so it doesn't change the channel correctly. (I see the numbers show up on the TV screen before the channel changes.) I tried re-learning the remote, but the problem is still there. (Media Center is changing channels through the IR Blaster attached to the front of the DirecTV box.)

  I'm running Windows Vista SP2 64-bit, but it was SP1 when I bought the laptop. It came with Windows Media Center, but I originally found no use for it, so I deleted the shortcut. Now I DO want to use it, and I can't find it anywhere. However, when I insert a DVD, the option to play it with Windows Media Center will appear, and it will launch Windows Media Center, so I must still have it on my system somewhere. My question is, where? Is there an easy way to just run the program using the Run window?

• Software management for 2 programmers

  Hi all, me and my very good friend do a small bussiness. We have company and we develop web apps using Scala. We have started 3 months ago and we have a lot of work now. We cannot afford to employ another programmer because we can't pay him now. Until now we try to manage entire developing process very simply. We use excel sheets for simple bug tracking and we work on client requests on the fly. We have no plan for next week or something similar. But now I find it very inefficient and useless. I am trying to find some rules or some methodology for small team or for only two guys. For example Scrum is, imo, unadapted for us. There are a lot of roles (ScrumMaster, Product Owner, Team...) and it seems overkill. Can you something advise me? Have you any experiences with software management in small teams? Is any methodology of current agile development fitten for pair of programmers? Is there any software management for simple bug tracking, maybe wiki or time management for two coders? thanks a lot for sharing.

  ** my problem is as following: unable to add/remove any program using either update-manager or Synaptic Package Manager or terminal update-manager is asking for partial upgrade and while updating software-center 5.6.2 catalog , there is no progress beyond the line "this is may take a moment" synaptic is unable to obtain an exclusive lock, similarly can't do terminal command sudo apt-get update if i try to break down the lock using the command sudo fuser -cuk /var/lib/dpkg/lock; sudo rm -f /var/lib/dpkg/lock it turns off my monitor display and i have to restart the whole system. note: this whole trouble started ,when i found ubuntu software-center missing after adding a repository and reinstalled it. **

  I'm running an Asus MyCinema U3100mini ATSC on Windows 7 64-bit. When I play live TV in Windows Media Center, it's very choppy and uses 500+ MB of RAM, I'm guessing due to the hard drive buffering functionality. Is there any way to disable the live TV pause buffer completely? If not, can anyone recommend alternative software that: Works with the MyCinema.   I'm a third year student currently undergoing my project/dissertation section of my degree. I have drafted a proposal for my final year project and would appreciate any feedback. The feedback can be anything constructive either specific to this proposal, the area that I will be working and researching in or my ideas. I will accept all input. Aims My aim is to attempt a proof of concept and prototype a runtime-as-a-service (RaaS). This cloud based runtime will allow clients to dynamically offload tasks or create cloud applications. Currently software-as-a-service (SaaS) cloud applications are purpose built and have a predefined scope in which they can assist or serve the client; this scope cannot be changed without physical alteration to the client and server software. With RaaS the client potentially could define any task it wanted at any time depending on its environment variables, the client and server would then communicate parameters and returns for that task. For the client to utilize a RaaS it must be able to conceive and then define a task using an appropriate XML vocabulary. As the scope of the cloud solution is defined by the client at its runtime, the cloud solution only has to exist for as long as the client requires it to as opposed to a client using a dedicated service. Deliverables The crux of the project will require an XML vocabulary in which the client and server will communicate. I’ll prototype the server application that will dynamically create and manage cloud solutions. The solution will be coded using an interpreted language, such as python or javascript, which can evaluate expressions in runtime or a language that can dynamically compile such as C# or Java. As a further proof of concept I will also produce a mock client that offloads tasks to the server. The report will attempt to explain the different flavours of cloud computing solutions including infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS), platform-as-a-service (PaaS) and SaaS including real world examples and where the use of a RaaS could have improved the overall example solution. Disclaimer: I'm not requesting stakeholders in my project nor am I delegating work. Any materials other than feedback, advice or directions will not be utilized.

The idea is many times I have to take the snapshot and edit the image to crop to my region of interest, SnagIt does that automatically and very nicely. • How to deal with 'bad' decision forced on you regarding basic software for your product

  Here is my situation, our product used to support several of the major databases. Now management has decided to move all products to MaxDB (aka SapDB previously), and even if we keep supporting some of the previous dbs, all new installations are on MaxDB. I am sure MaxDB is a great db and can support huge SAP installations. But from the point of view of a software developper, its a nightmare. Every time you need to do something not trivial (write an stored procedure, some fancy trigger...) and you google for some info, you get like 0.1% of the hits you would with things like MySql, PostgreSql or MSSql. Mailing lists are nearly non existant. SAP does support it commercially but it is not clear wether we'll buy support. And the decision cannot be rolled back. The product works with MaxDB, but with lots of inefficiency on development and a lot of frustration, is there something one could do?

• Windows 7 Media Center PC not displaying MKV files properly

  Does anyone know why Windows Media Center wouldn't correctly display a 16x9 video? I just upgraded my home-built HTPC from Vista Ultimate (hey, it was a giveaway) to Windows 7 Ultimate - clean install. After that, I installed the Divx7 beta (to get .MKV support) and AC3filter (so I could HEAR the MKV files). Previously, under Vista Ultimate (32 bit), I had Arcsoft's Total Theater Pro for playing Blu-Rays and MKV decoding under Media Center. Now when I play a 720p 16x9 MKV file, I get some 'letterboxing' - like it's halfway between 4x3 and 16x9 - with the aspect ration looking alightly squished as a result. Here's the wierd part. If I use the Media Center connection software in my XBox 360 - it plays perfectly, filling the 16x9 screen edge-to-edge, just like Vista's WMC software USED to. Of course, beats the network up because the XBox goes to the HTPC, the HTPC goes to my WHS machine to fetch the data, it comes back to the HTPC, gets transcoded and streamed back to the Xbox. I'm running the latest drivers for an NVidia card (as fetched by Windows 7). I have no idea WHY this is because if I play "ordinary" (i.s. SD) Divx files that are 16x9, they play just fine, scaled right up to my screen's edges. It puzzles me as to why the same machine that properly converts the bits for the Xbox can't display/scale them properly for the attached display. Mind you, Windows Media Player exhibits the same symptoms. Ideas?
