  • Write raw struct contents (bytes) to a file in C. Confused about actual size written

    - by d11wtq
    Basic question, but I expected this struct to occupy 13 bytes of space (1 for the char, 12 for the 3 unsigned ints). Instead, sizeof(ESPR_REL_HEADER) gives me 16 bytes. typedef struct { unsigned char version; unsigned int root_node_num; unsigned int node_size; unsigned int node_count; } ESPR_REL_HEADER; What I'm trying to do is initialize this struct with some values and write the data it contains (the raw bytes) to the start of a file, so that when I open this file I later I can reconstruct this struct and gain some meta data about what the rest of the file contains. I'm initializing the struct and writing it to the file like this: int esprime_write_btree_header(FILE * fp, unsigned int node_size) { ESPR_REL_HEADER header = { .version = 1, .root_node_num = 0, .node_size = node_size, .node_count = 1 }; return fwrite(&header, sizeof(ESPR_REL_HEADER), 1, fp); } Where node_size is currently 4 while I experiment. The file contains the following data after I write the struct to it: -bash$ hexdump test.dat 0000000 01 bf f9 8b 00 00 00 00 04 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 0000010 I expect it to actually contain: -bash$ hexdump test.dat 0000000 01 00 00 00 00 04 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 0000010 Excuse the newbiness. I am trying to learn :) How do I efficiently write just the data components of my struct to a file?

  • How much does an InnoDB table benefit from having fixed-length rows?

    - by Philip Eve
    I know that dependent on the database storage engine in use, a performance benefit can be found if all of the rows in the table can be guaranteed to be the same length (by avoiding nullable columns and not using any VARCHAR, TEXT or BLOB columns). I'm not clear on how far this applies to InnoDB, with its funny table arrangements. Let's give an example: I have the following table CREATE TABLE `PlayerGameRcd` ( `User` SMALLINT UNSIGNED NOT NULL, `Game` MEDIUMINT UNSIGNED NOT NULL, `GameResult` ENUM('Quit', 'Kicked by Vote', 'Kicked by Admin', 'Kicked by System', 'Finished 5th', 'Finished 4th', 'Finished 3rd', 'Finished 2nd', 'Finished 1st', 'Game Aborted', 'Playing', 'Hide' ) NOT NULL DEFAULT 'Playing', `Inherited` TINYINT NOT NULL, `GameCounts` TINYINT NOT NULL, `Colour` TINYINT UNSIGNED NOT NULL, `Score` SMALLINT UNSIGNED NOT NULL DEFAULT 0, `NumLongTurns` TINYINT UNSIGNED NOT NULL DEFAULT 0, `Notes` MEDIUMTEXT, `CurrentOccupant` TINYINT UNSIGNED NOT NULL DEFAULT 0, PRIMARY KEY (`Game`, `User`), UNIQUE KEY `PGR_multi_uk` (`Game`, `CurrentOccupant`, `Colour`), INDEX `Stats_ind_PGR` (`GameCounts`, `GameResult`, `Score`, `User`), INDEX `GameList_ind_PGR` (`User`, `CurrentOccupant`, `Game`, `Colour`), CONSTRAINT `Constr_PlayerGameRcd_User_fk` FOREIGN KEY `User_fk` (`User`) REFERENCES `User` (`UserID`) ON DELETE CASCADE ON UPDATE CASCADE, CONSTRAINT `Constr_PlayerGameRcd_Game_fk` FOREIGN KEY `Game_fk` (`Game`) REFERENCES `Game` (`GameID`) ON DELETE CASCADE ON UPDATE CASCADE ) ENGINE=INNODB CHARACTER SET utf8 COLLATE utf8_general_ci The only column that is nullable is Notes, which is MEDIUMTEXT. This table presently has 33097 rows (which I appreciate is small as yet). Of these rows, only 61 have values in Notes. How much of an improvement might I see from, say, adding a new table to store the Notes column in and performing LEFT JOINs when necessary?

  • finding N contiguous zero bits in an integer to the left of the MSB from another

    - by James Morris
    First we find the MSB of the first integer, and then try to find a region of N contiguous zero bits within the second number which is to the left of the MSB from the first integer. Here is the C code for my solution: typedef unsigned int t; unsigned const t_bits = sizeof(t) * CHAR_BIT; _Bool test_fit_within_left_of_msb( unsigned width, t val1, t val2, unsigned* offset_result) { unsigned offbit = 0; unsigned msb = 0; t mask; t b; while(val1 >>= 1) ++msb; while(offbit + width < t_bits - msb) { mask = (((t)1 << width) - 1) << (t_bits - width - offbit); b = val2 & mask; if (!b) { *offset_result = offbit; return true; } if (offbit++) /* this conditional bothers me! */ b <<= offbit - 1; while(b <<= 1) offbit++; } return false; } Aside from faster ways of finding the MSB of the first integer, the commented test for a zero offbit seems a bit extraneous, but necessary to skip the highest bit of type t if it is set. I have also implemented similar algorithms but working to the right of the MSB of the first number, so they don't require this seemingly extra condition. How can I get rid of this extra condition, or even, are there far more optimal solutions?

  • iterators to range of elements in a vector whose attributes have specific value

    - by user1801173
    I have a vector of objects and I want to return the range of elements whose attribute have a specific value. This is the structure: class A { public: std::vector<B*> vec_; pair<vector<B*>::iterator, vector<B*>::iterator> getElements(unsigned int attr_val); unsigned int name() { return name_; } private: unsigned int name_; }; class B { public: unsigned int attr() { return attr_; } A* source() { return source_; } B* dest() { return dest_; } private: A* source_; B* dest_; unsigned int attr_; }; The vector vec_; is already sorted by attr_ and dest_-name() (in that order). Now I want to return all elements, whose attr_ is equal to attr_val. What is the appropriate stl algorithm (or is there even a vector member function?) to implement getElements(unsigned int attr_val) ? Thanks for help.

  • introducing pointers to a large software project

    - by stefan
    I have a fairly large software project written in c++. In there, there is a class foo which represents a structure (by which i don't mean the programmers struct) in which foo-objects can be part of a foo-object. Here's class foo in simplest form: class Foo { private: std::vector<unsigned int> indices; public: void addFooIndex(unsigned int); unsigned int getFooIndex(unsigned int); }; Every foo-object is currently stored in an object of class bar. class Bar { private: std::vector<Foo> foos; public: void addFoo(Foo); std::vector<Foo> getFoos(); } So if a foo-object should represent a structure with a "inner" foo-object, I currently do Foo foo; Foo innerFoo; foo.addFooIndex(bar.getFoos().size() - 1); bar.addFoo(innerFoo); And to get it, I obviously use: Foo foo; for ( unsigned int i = 0; i < foo.getFooIndices().size(); ++i ) { Foo inner_foo; assert( foo.getFooIndices().at(i) < bar.getFoos().size() ); inner_foo = bar.getFoos().at(foo.getFooIndices().at(i)); } So this is not a problem. It just works. But it's not the most elegant solution. I now want to make the inner foos to be "more connected" with the foo-object. It would be obviously to change class foo to: class Foo { private: std::vector<Foo*> foo_pointers; public: void addFooPointer(Foo*); std::vector<Foo*> getFooPointers(); }; So now, for my question: How to gently change this basic class without messing up the whole code? Is there a "clean way"?

  • Is there anything else I can do to optimize this MySQL query?

    - by Legend
    I have two tables, Table A with 700,000 entries and Table B with 600,000 entries. The structure is as follows: Table A: +-----------+---------------------+------+-----+---------+----------------+ | Field | Type | Null | Key | Default | Extra | +-----------+---------------------+------+-----+---------+----------------+ | id | bigint(20) unsigned | NO | PRI | NULL | auto_increment | | number | bigint(20) unsigned | YES | | NULL | | +-----------+---------------------+------+-----+---------+----------------+ Table B: +-------------+---------------------+------+-----+---------+----------------+ | Field | Type | Null | Key | Default | Extra | +-------------+---------------------+------+-----+---------+----------------+ | id | bigint(20) unsigned | NO | PRI | NULL | auto_increment | | number_s | bigint(20) unsigned | YES | MUL | NULL | | | number_e | bigint(20) unsigned | YES | MUL | NULL | | | source | varchar(50) | YES | | NULL | | +-------------+---------------------+------+-----+---------+----------------+ I am trying to find if any of the values in Table A are present in Table B using the following code: $sql = "SELECT number from TableA"; $result = mysql_query($sql) or die(mysql_error()); while($row = mysql_fetch_assoc($result)) { $number = $row['number']; $sql = "SELECT source, count(source) FROM TableB WHERE number_s < $number AND number_e > $number GROUP BY source"; $re = mysql_query($sql) or die(mysql_error); while($ro = mysql_fetch_array($re)) { echo $number."\t".$ro[0]."\t".$ro[1]."\n"; } } I was hoping that the query would go fast but then for some reason, it isn't terrible fast. My explain on the select (with a particular value of "number") gives me the following: mysql> explain SELECT source, count(source) FROM TableB WHERE number_s < 1812194440 AND number_e > 1812194440 GROUP BY source; +----+-------------+------------+------+-------------------------+------+---------+------+--------+----------------------------------------------+ | id | select_type | table | type | possible_keys | key | key_len | ref | rows | Extra | +----+-------------+------------+------+-------------------------+------+---------+------+--------+----------------------------------------------+ | 1 | SIMPLE | TableB | ALL | number_s,number_e | NULL | NULL | NULL | 696325 | Using where; Using temporary; Using filesort | +----+-------------+------------+------+-------------------------+------+---------+------+--------+----------------------------------------------+ 1 row in set (0.00 sec) Is there any optimization that I can squeeze out of this? I tried writing a stored procedure for the same task but it doesn't even seem to work in the first place... It doesn't give any syntax errors... I tried running it for a day and it was still running which felt odd. CREATE PROCEDURE Filter() Begin DECLARE number BIGINT UNSIGNED; DECLARE x INT; DECLARE done INT DEFAULT 0; DECLARE cur1 CURSOR FOR SELECT number FROM TableA; DECLARE CONTINUE HANDLER FOR NOT FOUND SET done = 1; CREATE TEMPORARY TABLE IF NOT EXISTS Flags(number bigint unsigned, count int(11)); OPEN cur1; hist_loop: LOOP FETCH cur1 INTO number; SELECT count(*) from TableB WHERE number_s < number AND number_e > number INTO x; IF done = 1 THEN LEAVE hist_loop; END IF; IF x IS NOT NULL AND x>0 THEN INSERT INTO Flags(number, count) VALUES(number, x); END IF; END LOOP hist_loop; CLOSE cur1; END

  • C++: compute a number's complement and its number of possible mismatches

    - by Eagle
    I got a bit stuck with my algorithm and I need some help to solve my problem. I think an example would explain better my problem. Assuming: d = 4 (maximum number of allowed bits in a number, 2^4-1=15). m_max = 1 (maximum number of allowed bits mismatches). kappa = (maximum number of elements to find for a given d and m, where m in m_max) The main idea is for a given number, x, to compute its complement number (in binary base) and all the possible combinations for up to m_max mismatches from x complement's number. Now the program start to scan from i = 0 till 15. for i = 0 and m = 0, kappa = \binom{d}{0} = 1 (this called a perfect match) possible combinations in bits, is only 1111 (for 0: 0000). for i = 0 and m = 1, kappa = \binom{d}{1} = 4 (one mismatch) possible combinations in bits are: 1000, 0100, 0010 and 0001 My problem was to generalize it to general d and m. I wrote the following code: #include <stdlib.h> #include <iomanip> #include <boost/math/special_functions/binomial.hpp> #include <iostream> #include <stdint.h> #include <vector> namespace vec { typedef std::vector<unsigned int> uint_1d_vec_t; } int main( int argc, char* argv[] ) { int counter, d, m; unsigned num_combination, bits_mask, bit_mask, max_num_mismatch; uint_1d_vec_t kappa; d = 4; m = 2; bits_mask = 2^num_bits - 1; for ( unsigned i = 0 ; i < num_elemets ; i++ ) { counter = 0; for ( unsigned m = 0 ; m < max_num_mismatch ; m++ ) { // maximum number of allowed combinations num_combination = boost::math::binomial_coefficient<double>( static_cast<unsigned>( d ), static_cast<unsigned>(m) ); kappa.push_back( num_combination ); for ( unsigned j = 0 ; j < kappa.at(m) ; j++ ) { if ( m == 0 ) v[i][counter++] = i^bits_mask; // M_0 else { bit_mask = 1 << ( num_bits - j ); v[i][counter++] = v[i][0] ^ bits_mask } } } } return 0; } I got stuck in the line v[i][counter++] = v[i][0] ^ bits_mask since I was unable to generalize my algorithm to m_max1, since I needed for m_max mismatches m_max loops and in my original problem, m is unknown until runtime.

  • Calling cdecl Functions That Have Different Number of Arguments

    - by KlaxSmashing
    I have functions that I wish to call based on some input. Each function has different number of arguments. In other words, if (strcmp(str, "funcA") == 0) funcA(a, b, c); else if (strcmp(str, "funcB") == 0) funcB(d); else if (strcmp(str, "funcC") == 0) funcC(f, g); This is a bit bulky and hard to maintain. Ideally, these are variadic functions (e.g., printf-style) and can use varargs. But they are not. So exploiting the cdecl calling convention, I am stuffing the stack via a struct full of parameters. I'm wondering if there's a better way to do it. Note that this is strictly for in-house (e.g., simple tools, unit tests, etc.) and will not be used for any production code that might be subjected to malicious attacks. Example: #include <stdio.h> typedef struct __params { unsigned char* a; unsigned char* b; unsigned char* c; } params; int funcA(int a, int b) { printf("a = %d, b = %d\n", a, b); return a; } int funcB(int a, int b, const char* c) { printf("a = %d, b = %d, c = %s\n", a, b, c); return b; } int funcC(int* a) { printf("a = %d\n", *a); *a *= 2; return 0; } typedef int (*f)(params); int main(int argc, char**argv) { int val; int tmp; params myParams; f myFuncA = (f)funcA; f myFuncB = (f)funcB; f myFuncC = (f)funcC; myParams.a = (unsigned char*)100; myParams.b = (unsigned char*)200; val = myFuncA(myParams); printf("val = %d\n", val); myParams.c = (unsigned char*)"This is a test"; val = myFuncB(myParams); printf("val = %d\n", val); tmp = 300; myParams.a = (unsigned char*)&tmp; val = myFuncC(myParams); printf("a = %d, val = %d\n", tmp, val); return 0; } Output: gcc -o func func.c ./func a = 100, b = 200 val = 100 a = 100, b = 200, c = This is a test val = 200 a = 300 a = 600, val = 0

  • Trouble recovering MySQL InnoDB database after server crash

  • mysqld service crashes on restart, after importing mysqldump #innodb

  • Allocating memory inside a function and returning it back

    - by user2651062
    I want to pass a pointer to my function and allocate the memory to which this pointer points. I've read in other posts that I should pass a double pointer to this function and I did so, but I keep getting segmentation fault: #include <iostream> #include <stdlib.h> using namespace std; void allocate(unsigned char** t) { *t=(unsigned char*)malloc(3*sizeof(unsigned char)); if(*t == NULL) cout<<"Allcoation failed"<<endl; else for(int m=0;m<3;m++) *(t[m])=0; } int main() { unsigned char* t; allocate(&t); cout<<t[0]<<" "<<t[1]<<endl; return 0; } the result is always this: Segmentation fault (core dumped) I don't think that there's anything missing from this code. What could be wrong?

  • Issue with SPI (Serial Port Comm), stuck on ioctl()

    - by stef
    I'm trying to access a SPI sensor using the SPIDEV driver but my code gets stuck on IOCTL. I'm running embedded Linux on the SAM9X5EK (mounting AT91SAM9G25). The device is connected to SPI0. I enabled CONFIG_SPI_SPIDEV and CONFIG_SPI_ATMEL in menuconfig and added the proper code to the BSP file: static struct spi_board_info spidev_board_info[] { { .modalias = "spidev", .max_speed_hz = 1000000, .bus_num = 0, .chips_select = 0, .mode = SPI_MODE_3, }, ... }; spi_register_board_info(spidev_board_info, ARRAY_SIZE(spidev_board_info)); 1MHz is the maximum accepted by the sensor, I tried 500kHz but I get an error during Linux boot (too slow apparently). .bus_num and .chips_select should correct (I also tried all other combinations). SPI_MODE_3 I checked the datasheet for it. I get no error while booting and devices appear correctly as /dev/spidevX.X. I manage to open the file and obtain a valid file descriptor. I'm now trying to access the device with the following code (inspired by examples I found online). #define MY_SPIDEV_DELAY_USECS 100 // #define MY_SPIDEV_SPEED_HZ 1000000 #define MY_SPIDEV_BITS_PER_WORD 8 int spidevReadRegister(int fd, unsigned int num_out_bytes, unsigned char *out_buffer, unsigned int num_in_bytes, unsigned char *in_buffer) { struct spi_ioc_transfer mesg[2] = { {0}, }; uint8_t num_tr = 0; int ret; // Write data mesg[0].tx_buf = (unsigned long)out_buffer; mesg[0].rx_buf = (unsigned long)NULL; mesg[0].len = num_out_bytes; // mesg[0].delay_usecs = MY_SPIDEV_DELAY_USECS, // mesg[0].speed_hz = MY_SPIDEV_SPEED_HZ; mesg[0].bits_per_word = MY_SPIDEV_BITS_PER_WORD; mesg[0].cs_change = 0; num_tr++; // Read data mesg[1].tx_buf = (unsigned long)NULL; mesg[1].rx_buf = (unsigned long)in_buffer; mesg[1].len = num_in_bytes; // mesg[1].delay_usecs = MY_SPIDEV_DELAY_USECS, // mesg[1].speed_hz = MY_SPIDEV_SPEED_HZ; mesg[1].bits_per_word = MY_SPIDEV_BITS_PER_WORD; mesg[1].cs_change = 1; num_tr++; // Do the actual transmission if(num_tr > 0) { ret = ioctl(fd, SPI_IOC_MESSAGE(num_tr), mesg); if(ret == -1) { printf("Error: %d\n", errno); return -1; } } return 0; } Then I'm using this function: #define OPTICAL_SENSOR_ADDR "/dev/spidev0.0" ... int fd; fd = open(OPTICAL_SENSOR_ADDR, O_RDWR); if (fd<=0) { printf("Device not found\n"); exit(1); } uint8_t buffer1[1] = {0x3a}; uint8_t buffer2[1] = {0}; spidevReadRegister(fd, 1, buffer1, 1, buffer2); When I run it, the code get stuck on IOCTL! I did this way because, in order to read a register on the sensor, I need to send a byte with its address in it and then get the answer back without changing CS (however, when I tried using write() and read() functions, while learning, I got the same result, stuck on them). I'm aware that specifying .speed_hz causes a ENOPROTOOPT error on Atmel (I checked spidev.c) so I commented that part. Why does it get stuck? I though it can be as the device is created but it actually doesn't "feel" any hardware. As I wasn't sure if hardware SPI0 corresponded to bus_num 0 or 1, I tried both, but still no success (btw, which one is it?). UPDATE: I managed to have the SPI working! Half of it.. MOSI is transmitting the right data, but CLK doesn't start... any idea?

  • Symfony 1.4/ Doctrine; n-m relation data cannot be accessed in template (indexSuccess)

    - by chandimak
    I have a database with 3 tables. It's a simple n-m relationship. Student, Course and StudentHasCourse to handle n-m relationship. I post the schema.yml for reference, but it would not be really necessary. Course: connection: doctrine tableName: course columns: id: type: integer(4) fixed: false unsigned: false primary: true autoincrement: false name: type: string(45) fixed: false unsigned: false primary: false notnull: false autoincrement: false relations: StudentHasCourse: local: id foreign: course_id type: many Student: connection: doctrine tableName: student columns: id: type: integer(4) fixed: false unsigned: false primary: true autoincrement: false registration_details: type: string(45) fixed: false unsigned: false primary: false notnull: false autoincrement: false name: type: string(30) fixed: false unsigned: false primary: false notnull: false autoincrement: false relations: StudentHasCourse: local: id foreign: student_id type: many StudentHasCourse: connection: doctrine tableName: student_has_course columns: student_id: type: integer(4) fixed: false unsigned: false primary: true autoincrement: false course_id: type: integer(4) fixed: false unsigned: false primary: true autoincrement: false result: type: string(1) fixed: true unsigned: false primary: false notnull: false autoincrement: false relations: Course: local: course_id foreign: id type: one Student: local: student_id foreign: id type: one Then, I get data from tables in executeIndex() from the following query. $q_info = Doctrine_Query::create() ->select('s.*, shc.*, c.*') ->from('Student s') ->leftJoin('s.StudentHasCourse shc') ->leftJoin('shc.Course c') ->where('c.id = 1'); $this->infos = $q_info->execute(); Then I access data by looping through in indexSuccess.php. But, in indexSuccess I can only access data from the table Student. <?php foreach ($infos as $info): ?> <?php echo $info->getId(); ?> <?php echo $info->getName(); ?> <?php endforeach; ?> I expected, that I could access StudentHasCourse data and Course data like the following. But, it generates an error. <?php echo $info->getStudentHasCourse()->getResult()?> <?php echo $info->getStudentHasCourse()->getCourse()->getName()?> The first statement gives a warning; Warning: call_user_func_array() expects parameter 1 to be a valid callback, class 'Doctrine_Collection' does not have a method 'getCourse' in D:\wamp\bin\php\php5.3.5\PEAR\pear\symfony\escaper\sfOutputEscaperObjectDecorator.class.php on line 64 And the second statement gives the above warning and the following error; Fatal error: Call to a member function getName() on a non-object in D:\wamp\www\sam\test_doc_1\apps\frontend\modules\registration\templates\indexSuccess.php on line 5 When I check the query from the Debug toolbar it appears as following and it gives all data I want. SELECT s.id AS s__id, s.registration_details AS s__registration_details, s.name AS s__name, s2.student_id AS s2__student_id, s2.course_id AS s2__course_id, s2.result AS s2__result, c.id AS c__id, c.name AS c__name FROM student s LEFT JOIN student_has_course s2 ON s.id = s2.student_id LEFT JOIN course c ON s2.course_id = c.id WHERE (c.id = 1) Though the question is short, as all the information mentioned it became so long. It's highly appreciated if someone can help me out to solve this. What I require is to access the data from StudentHasCourse and Course. If those data cannot be accessed by this design and this query, any other methodology is also appreciated.

The class BaseArticle looks like this: abstract class BaseArticle extends Doctrine_Record { public function setTableDefinition() { $this->setTableName('article'); $this->hasColumn('article_id', 'integer', 8, array( 'type' => 'integer', 'length' => 8, 'fixed' => false, 'unsigned' => false, 'primary' => true, 'autoincrement' => true, )); $this->hasColumn('title', 'string', null, array( 'type' => 'string', 'fixed' => false, 'unsigned' => false, 'primary' => false, 'notnull' => false, 'autoincrement' => false, )); $this->hasColumn('text', 'string', null, array( 'type' => 'string', 'fixed' => false, 'unsigned' => false, 'primary' => false, 'notnull' => false, 'autoincrement' => false, $this->hasColumn('url', 'string', 255, array( 'type' => 'string', 'length' => 255, 'fixed' => false, 'unsigned' => false, 'primary' => false, 'notnull' => false, 'autoincrement' => false, )); } public function setUp() { parent::setUp(); $this->hasMany('Tag as Tags', array( 'local' => 'article_id', 'foreign'=>'tag_id', 'refClass'=>'Articletag') ); } } The BaseTag-class like this: abstract class BaseTag extends Doctrine_Record { public function setTableDefinition() { $this->setTableName('tag'); $this->hasColumn('tag_id', 'integer', 4, array( 'type' => 'integer', 'length' => 4, 'fixed' => false, 'unsigned' => false, 'primary' => true, 'autoincrement' => true, )); $this->hasColumn('name', 'string', null, array( 'type' => 'string', 'fixed' => false, 'unsigned' => false, 'primary' => false, 'notnull' => false, 'autoincrement' => false, )); } public function setUp() { parent::setUp(); $this->hasMany('Article as Articles', array( 'local' => 'tag_id', 'foreign'=>'article_id', 'refClass'=>'Articletag') ); } } And the relationship class like this: abstract class BaseArticletag extends Doctrine_Record { public function setTableDefinition() { $this->setTableName('articletag'); $this->hasColumn('article_id', 'integer', 8, array( 'type' => 'integer', 'length' => 8, 'fixed' => false, 'unsigned' => false, 'primary' => true, 'autoincrement' => false, )); $this->hasColumn('tag_id', 'integer', 4, array( 'type' => 'integer', 'length' => 4, 'fixed' => false, 'unsigned' => false, 'primary' => true, 'autoincrement' => false, )); } public function setUp() { parent::setUp(); } } When I try to get a property from the article all goes well by using: $article = Doctrine_Query::create()->from('Article a') ->where('id = ?' , 1) ->fetchOne(); echo $article->title; //gives me the title But when I try this: foreach($article->Tags as $tag) { echo($tag->name) } I get an error: Unknown record property / related component "Tags" on "Article"

  • Picking good first estimates for Goldschmidt division

    - by Mads Elvheim
    I'm calculating fixedpoint reciprocals in Q22.10 with Goldschmidt division for use in my software rasterizer on ARM. This is done by just setting the nominator to 1, i.e the nominator becomes the scalar on the first iteration. To be honest, I'm kind of following the wikipedia algorithm blindly here. The article says that if the denominator is scaled in the half-open range (0.5, 1.0], a good first estimate can be based on the denominator alone: Let F be the estimated scalar and D be the denominator, then F = 2 - D. But when doing this, I lose a lot of precision. Say if I want to find the reciprocal of 512.00002f. In order to scale the number down, I lose 10 bits of precision in the fraction part, which is shifted out. So, my questions are: Is there a way to pick a better estimate which does not require normalization? Also, is it possible to pre-calculate the first estimates so the series converges faster? Right now, it converges after the 4th iteration on average. On ARM this is about ~50 cycles worst case, and that's not taking emulation of clz/bsr into account, nor memory lookups. Here is my testcase. Note: The software implementation of clz on line 13 is from my post here. You can replace it with an intrinsic if you want. #include <stdio.h> #include <stdint.h> const unsigned int BASE = 22ULL; static unsigned int divfp(unsigned int val, int* iter) { /* Nominator, denominator, estimate scalar and previous denominator */ unsigned long long N,D,F, DPREV; int bitpos; *iter = 1; D = val; /* Get the shift amount + is right-shift, - is left-shift. */ bitpos = 31 - clz(val) - BASE; /* Normalize into the half-range (0.5, 1.0] */ if(0 < bitpos) D >>= bitpos; else D <<= (-bitpos); /* (FNi / FDi) == (FN(i+1) / FD(i+1)) */ /* F = 2 - D */ F = (2ULL<<BASE) - D; /* N = F for the first iteration, because the nominator is simply 1. So don't waste a 64-bit UMULL on a multiply with 1 */ N = F; D = ((unsigned long long)D*F)>>BASE; while(1){ DPREV = D; F = (2<<(BASE)) - D; D = ((unsigned long long)D*F)>>BASE; /* Bail when we get the same value for two denominators in a row. This means that the error is too small to make any further progress. */ if(D == DPREV) break; N = ((unsigned long long)N*F)>>BASE; *iter = *iter + 1; } if(0 < bitpos) N >>= bitpos; else N <<= (-bitpos); return N; } int main(int argc, char* argv[]) { double fv, fa; int iter; unsigned int D, result; sscanf(argv[1], "%lf", &fv); D = fv*(double)(1<<BASE); result = divfp(D, &iter); fa = (double)result / (double)(1UL << BASE); printf("Value: %8.8lf 1/value: %8.8lf FP value: 0x%.8X\n", fv, fa, result); printf("iteration: %d\n",iter); return 0; }

  • C++ Unions bit fields task

    - by learningtolive
    Can somebody clear me out why would I use union and with what purpose the same address for the cin'ed variable and bit field (task from the Schildts C++ book)? In other words why would I use union for : char ch; struct byte bit; // Display the ASCII code in binary for characters. #include <iostream> #include <conio.h> using namespace std; // a bit field that will be decoded struct byte { unsigned a : 1; unsigned b : 1; unsigned c : 1; unsigned d : 1; unsigned e : 1; unsigned f : 1; unsigned g : 1; unsigned h : 1; }; union bits { char ch; struct byte bit; } ascii ; void disp_bits(bits b); int main() { do { cin >> ascii.ch; cout << ": "; disp_bits(ascii); } while(ascii.ch!='q'); // quit if q typed return 0; } // Display the bit pattern for each character. void disp_bits(bits b) { if(b.bit.h) cout << "1 "; else cout << "0 "; if(b.bit.g) cout << "1 "; else cout << "0 "; if(b.bit.f) cout << "1 "; else cout << "0 "; if(b.bit.e) cout << "1 "; else cout << "0 "; if(b.bit.d) cout << "1 "; else cout << "0 "; if(b.bit.c) cout << "1 "; else cout << "0 "; if(b.bit.b) cout << "1 "; else cout << "0 "; if(b.bit.a) cout << "1 "; else cout << "0 "; cout << "\n"; }

  • Mysql - help me optimize this query

    - by sandeepan-nath
    About the system: -The system has a total of 8 tables - Users - Tutor_Details (Tutors are a type of User,Tutor_Details table is linked to Users) - learning_packs, (stores packs created by tutors) - learning_packs_tag_relations, (holds tag relations meant for search) - tutors_tag_relations and tags and orders (containing purchase details of tutor's packs), order_details linked to orders and tutor_details. For a more clear idea about the tables involved please check the The tables section in the end. -A tags based search approach is being followed.Tag relations are created when new tutors register and when tutors create packs (this makes tutors and packs searcheable). For details please check the section How tags work in this system? below. Following is a simpler representation (not the actual) of the more complex query which I am trying to optimize:- I have used statements like explanation of parts in the query select SUM(DISTINCT( t.tag LIKE "%Dictatorship%" )) as key_1_total_matches, SUM(DISTINCT( t.tag LIKE "%democracy%" )) as key_2_total_matches, td., u., count(distinct(od.id_od)), if (lp.id_lp > 0) then some conditional logic on lp fields else 0 as tutor_popularity from Tutor_Details AS td JOIN Users as u on u.id_user = td.id_user LEFT JOIN Learning_Packs_Tag_Relations AS lptagrels ON td.id_tutor = lptagrels.id_tutor LEFT JOIN Learning_Packs AS lp ON lptagrels.id_lp = lp.id_lp LEFT JOIN `some other tables on lp.id_lp - let's call learning pack tables set (including Learning_Packs table)` LEFT JOIN Order_Details as od on td.id_tutor = od.id_author LEFT JOIN Orders as o on od.id_order = o.id_order LEFT JOIN Tutors_Tag_Relations as ttagrels ON td.id_tutor = ttagrels.id_tutor JOIN Tags as t on (t.id_tag = ttagrels.id_tag) OR (t.id_tag = lptagrels.id_tag) where some condition on Users table's fields AND CASE WHEN ((t.id_tag = lptagrels.id_tag) AND (lp.id_lp 0)) THEN `some conditions on learning pack tables set` ELSE 1 END AND CASE WHEN ((t.id_tag = wtagrels.id_tag) AND (wc.id_wc 0)) THEN `some conditions on webclasses tables set` ELSE 1 END AND CASE WHEN (od.id_od0) THEN od.id_author = td.id_tutor and some conditions on Orders table's fields ELSE 1 END AND ( t.tag LIKE "%Dictatorship%" OR t.tag LIKE "%democracy%") group by td.id_tutor HAVING key_1_total_matches = 1 AND key_2_total_matches = 1 order by tutor_popularity desc, u.surname asc, u.name asc limit 0,20 ===================================================================== What does the above query do? Does AND logic search on the search keywords (2 in this example - "Democracy" and "Dictatorship"). Returns only those tutors for which both the keywords are present in the union of the two sets - tutors details and details of all the packs created by a tutor. To make things clear - Suppose a Tutor name "Sandeepan Nath" has created a pack "My first pack", then:- Searching "Sandeepan Nath" returns Sandeepan Nath. Searching "Sandeepan first" returns Sandeepan Nath. Searching "Sandeepan second" does not return Sandeepan Nath. ====================================================================================== The problem The results returned by the above query are correct (AND logic working as per expectation), but the time taken by the query on heavily loaded databases is like 25 seconds as against normal query timings of the order of 0.005 - 0.0002 seconds, which makes it totally unusable. It is possible that some of the delay is being caused because all the possible fields have not yet been indexed, but I would appreciate a better query as a solution, optimized as much as possible, displaying the same results ========================================================================================== How tags work in this system? When a tutor registers, tags are entered and tag relations are created with respect to tutor's details like name, surname etc. When a Tutors create packs, again tags are entered and tag relations are created with respect to pack's details like pack name, description etc. tag relations for tutors stored in tutors_tag_relations and those for packs stored in learning_packs_tag_relations. All individual tags are stored in tags table. ==================================================================== The tables Most of the following tables contain many other fields which I have omitted here. • Need help using libpng to read an image

    - by jonathanasdf
    Here is my function... I don't know why it's not working. The resulting image looks nothing like what the .png looks like. Here is my function... I don't know why it's not working. The resulting image looks nothing like what the .png looks like. • How do I create a curved line or filled circle or generally a circle using C++/SDL?

    - by NoobScratcher
    Hello I've been trying for ages to make a pixel circle using the putpixel function provided by SDL main website here is that function : void putpixel(int x,int y , int color , SDL_Surface* surface) { unsigned int *ptr = static_cast <unsigned int *> (surface->pixels); int offset = y * (surface->pitch/sizeof(unsigned int)); ptr[offset + x] = color; } and my question is how do I curve a line or create an circle arc of pixels or any other curved shape then a rectangle or singular pixel or line. for example here are some pictures filled pixel circle below enter link description here now my idea was too change the x and y value of the pixel position using + and - to create the curves but in practice didn't provide the correct results what my results are in this is to be able to create a circle that is made out of pixels only nothing else. thank you for anyone who takes the time to read this question thanks! :D

  • Processing Text and Binary (Blob, ArrayBuffer, ArrayBufferView) Payload in WebSocket - (TOTD #185)

    - by arungupta
    The WebSocket API defines different send(xxx) methods that can be used to send text and binary data. This Tip Of The Day (TOTD) will show how to send and receive text and binary data using WebSocket. TOTD #183 explains how to get started with a WebSocket endpoint using GlassFish 4. A simple endpoint from that blog looks like: @WebSocketEndpoint("/endpoint") public class MyEndpoint { public void receiveTextMessage(String message) { . . . } } A message with the first parameter of the type String is invoked when a text payload is received. The payload of the incoming WebSocket frame is mapped to this first parameter. An optional second parameter, Session, can be specified to map to the "other end" of this conversation. For example: public void receiveTextMessage(String message, Session session) {     . . . } The return type is void and that means no response is returned to the client that invoked this endpoint. A response may be returned to the client in two different ways. First, set the return type to the expected type, such as: public String receiveTextMessage(String message) { String response = . . . . . . return response; } In this case a text payload is returned back to the invoking endpoint. The second way to send a response back is to use the mapped session to send response using one of the sendXXX methods in Session, when and if needed. public void receiveTextMessage(String message, Session session) {     . . .     RemoteEndpoint remote = session.getRemote();     remote.sendString(...);     . . .     remote.sendString(...);    . . .    remote.sendString(...); } This shows how duplex and asynchronous communication between the two endpoints can be achieved. This can be used to define different message exchange patterns between the client and server. The WebSocket client can send the message as: websocket.send(myTextField.value); where myTextField is a text field in the web page. Binary payload in the incoming WebSocket frame can be received if ByteBuffer is used as the first parameter of the method signature. The endpoint method signature in that case would look like: public void receiveBinaryMessage(ByteBuffer message) {     . . . } From the client side, the binary data can be sent using Blob, ArrayBuffer, and ArrayBufferView. Blob is a just raw data and the actual interpretation is left to the application. ArrayBuffer and ArrayBufferView are defined in the TypedArray specification and are designed to send binary data using WebSocket. In short, ArrayBuffer is a fixed-length binary buffer with no format and no mechanism for accessing its contents. These buffers are manipulated using one of the views defined by one of the subclasses of ArrayBufferView listed below: Int8Array (signed 8-bit integer or char) Uint8Array (unsigned 8-bit integer or unsigned char) Int16Array (signed 16-bit integer or short) Uint16Array (unsigned 16-bit integer or unsigned short) Int32Array (signed 32-bit integer or int) Uint32Array (unsigned 16-bit integer or unsigned int) Float32Array (signed 32-bit float or float) Float64Array (signed 64-bit float or double) WebSocket can send binary data using ArrayBuffer with a view defined by a subclass of ArrayBufferView or a subclass of ArrayBufferView itself. The WebSocket client can send the message using Blob as: blob = new Blob([myField2.value]);websocket.send(blob); where myField2 is a text field in the web page. The WebSocket client can send the message using ArrayBuffer as: var buffer = new ArrayBuffer(10);var bytes = new Uint8Array(buffer);for (var i=0; i<bytes.length; i++) { bytes[i] = i;}websocket.send(buffer); A concrete implementation of receiving the binary message may look like: @WebSocketMessagepublic void echoBinary(ByteBuffer data, Session session) throws IOException {    System.out.println("echoBinary: " + data);    for (byte b : data.array()) {        System.out.print(b);    }    session.getRemote().sendBytes(data);} This method is just printing the binary data for verification but you may actually be storing it in a database or converting to an image or something more meaningful. Be aware of TYRUS-51 if you are trying to send binary data from server to client using method return type.
