I got an object that needs to be edge detected, but I have other white interfering objects in the background that are below the target objet ...     Mhh, kinda hard to explain with my poor english ;) So, lets say I have an image, doesnt matter what kind of (gif, jpg, png) with 200x200 pixel size (total area 40000 pixels) This image have a background, that can be trasparent, or every color (but i know the background-color in advance). Lets say that in the middle of this image, there is a picture (for keep the example simple lets suppose is a square drawn), of 100x100 pixels (total area 10000 pixels). I need to know the area percentage that the small square fill inside the image. So, in i know the full image size and the background-color, there is a way in php/python to scan the image and retrieve that (in short, counting the pixel that are different from the given background)? In the above example, the result should be 25%

    What kind of algorithms would generate random "goo balls" like those in World of Goo. (btw, if you haven't played it yet, highly recommended). I'm using Proccesing, but any generic algorithm would do. I guess it boils down to how to "randomly" make balls that are kind of round, but not perfectly round, and still looking realistic.     Hi, I need to display a thumbnail preview of a folder full of MP4 files. So, is there a Delphi 7 component which extract a thumbnail image from MP4 files (if MP4 does contain a thumbnail image), or is there a Delphi 7 component which can extract the 1st frame from a MP4 file ? I need to extract it so I can save it to a .jpg or .png file (to be used again later on). Any ideas, Thanks.

    I'm trying to detect white objects in a video. The first step is to filter the image so that it leaves only white-color pixels. My first approach was using HSV color space and then checking for high level of VAL channel.     I have some JPEG images that I need scale down to about 80% of original size. Original image dimension are about 700px × 1000px. Images contain some computer generated text and possibly some graphics (similar to what you would find in corporate word documents). How to scale image so that the text is as legible as possible? Currently we are scaling the imaeg down using bicubic interpolation, but that makes the text blurry and foggy.

    Is it possible to detect if a given string is valid regular expression, using just regular expressions? Say I have some strings, that may or may not be a valid regular expressions. I'd like to have a regular expression matches those string that correspond to valid regular expression. Is that possible? Or do I have use some higher level grammar (i.e. context free language) to detect this? Does it affect if I am using some extended version of regexps like Perl regexps? If that is possible, what the regexp matching regexp is?

The problem I have now encountered after setting up all the front end, is how to process a form that is dynamic. For E.G Form one could contain 6 fields all with different name attributes in the input tag. Form two could contain 20 fields all with different name attributes in the input tag. How would i process the forms without using up oodles of resource.

  • Is there any valid reason radians are used as the inputs to trig function in many modern languages?

    Is there any pressing reason trig functions should use radian inputs in modern programming languages? As far as I know radians are typically ugly to deal with except in three cases: (1) You want to compute an arc length and you know the angle of the arc and (2) You need to do symbolic calculus with trig functions (3) certain infinite series expansion look prettier if the input is in radians. None of these scenarios seem like a worthy justification for every programming language I am familiar with using radian inputs for Sin, Cos, Tangent, etc... The third one sounds good because it might mean one gets faster computations using radians (very slightly faster- the cost of one additional floating point multiplication ) , but I am dubious even of that because most commonly the developer had to take an extra step to put the angle in radians in the first place. The other two are ridiculous justifications for all the added obscurity.

    Hi, I m developing flex application, in which I want to Draw Image from User local hard-drive to the canvas of size 640x360. User can choose Image of bigger resolution & is scaled to Canvas size. But if user selected images of larger resolution like 3000x2000, the scaling take lot time & freezes the application until scale done. Is there any method to scale image faster or kind of threading can be done?   • simple process rollback question

    hi folks! while revising for an exam, i came across this simple question asking about rollbacks in processes. i understand how rollbacks occur, but i need some validation on my answer. The question: my confusion results from the fact that there is interprocess communication between the processes. does that change anything in terms of where to rollback? my answer would be R13, R23, R32 and R43. any help is greatly appreciated! thanks!

  • Database strucure for versioning and multiple languages

    Hi, I'm wondering how to best solve the issue of content existing in multiple versions and multiple languages. An image of my current structure can be seen here: http://i46.tinypic.com/72fx3k.png Each content can only have one active version in each language, and that's how I'm curious on how to best solve. Right now I have a column of the contentversions table, which means for each change of active version I have to run a update and set active=false on all version and then a update to set active=true for the piece of content in question. Any thoughts? :)
