• How do I restore a Windows Server 2008 R2 bare metal backup to a Windows Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V instance?

  I have been trying to find a simple way to migrate a physical Windows Server 2008 R2 installation over to a virtual machine hosted on Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter Edition /w Hyper-V. I came across the bare metal backup feature on Windows Server 2008 R2 and assumed I would be able to easily back it up and simply restore it into a new virtual machine by booting the installation media and getting into the Windows recovery process. When I attempted this, Hyper-V got into a network based restore process, but I do not have a PXE server or anything like that and I would rather not set it up. I tried mounting the VHD produced in the bare metal backup, just to see if it would somehow work, but it of course did not and failed with an error related to an incorrect boot device. I checked the virtual machine's BIOS settings and everything looked fine. I did not expect this to work anyway, so I stopped working through this method any further. Is there a way to take my bare metal backup and restore it into a virtual machine without a PXE server or SCVMM? I am opening to using proprietary tools but since the last time I did this I used Norton Ghost, which is no longer supported, I figured I would try doing it with what is readily available.

• How do I back up Hyper-V VMs with Windows Server backup on Windows Server 2008 R2?

  I've searched this site and google, and I CAN find information about how to back up Hyper-V virtual machines by using Windows Server Backup from the Hyper-V host in Windows Server 2008. You have to set up a registry key to enable the Hyper-V VSS writer, and then you can take online backups of your VMs. However, all the information I have found is about a year old, and none of it has been updated for Windows Server 2008 R2. I tried to run the "FixIt" .msi found here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/958662 ... but it said that it was not applicable to my operating system. So I am thinking either Windows Server 2008 R2 already has its VSS service for Hyper-V enabled, or it still needs to be enabled but the FixIt package doesn't feel comfortable operating on an OS that wasn't RTM at the time. I went ahead and scheduled a windows server backup for 9pm tomorrow. It said it would take 86 GB, which means it MUST be counting those VMs. But will this backup fail? Can anyone confirm whether you have to apply the same registry changes for R2?

• How do I stop XNA/Visual Studio from rebuilding my content project every time I build?

  My group and I are working on a game in XNA 4.0 with Visual Studio 2010/2012. The main solution has 6 projects: 2 XNA game projects (1 executable/ 1 class library), 1 WPF executable for the level editor, 2 standard class libraries, and a content project. Originally, the editor and engine XNA game projects had a content reference to separate content projects. Recently, I consolidated the content projects into one to simplify asset additions. Since pushing these changes to our git repo, certain members of my group have been experiencing weird build issues. Every time they run the project, they have to re-build all of the assets. This happens regardless of whether any changes were made, even if they just run the project directly after building. I've taken a few steps to figure out why this is happening. Below is the MSBuild output set on Normal verbosity.   I made a level editor for a puzzle game with Ogmo Editor and gave it to our designer/level designer. When he downloaded and started Ogmo, his CPU went to 100%. I looked at my CPU usage while Ogmo is running, and it goes from 20% to 30% (which is also high for an application alike Ogmo). He has a Windows 7 VM running on his Mac and I have a normal Windows PC, can this be a problem? I found a thread on FlashFunk forum that confirms that Ogmo has CPU usage issues. Has anybody maybe solved this issue? The solution seems to use Tiled Editor, but I never used it before. Is it difficult to change a level editor from Ogmo to Tiled? Can they export in the same format (XML with CSV elements for my puzzle game)?

So a product that was probably expensive, but allowed using it as a service charging for it, for example computer-terminal for transport time-table access or game machine. On the other site, the video terminals as we know them appeared not so long ago. So if there was something like this, this could be hardware/software most likely offering no interactivity, but probably printing some information based on user actions.

  I have been using Awstats for many years to process my log files. But I am missing many possibilities (like cross-domain reports) and I hate being stuck with extra fields I created years ago. Anyway, I am not going to continue to use this script. Is there a modern apache logs analytics solution based on modern storage technologies like NoSQL or at least somehow ready to cope with large datasets efficiently? I am primarily looking for something that generates nice sortable and searchable outputs with the focus on web analytics, before having to write my own frontends. (so graylog2 is not an option) This question is purely about log file based solutions.

• Is a finite state machine an appropriate solution for this situation?

  I was writing some test code as an example where I had a washing machine class. It has a door state that should be open or closed, and also a running state, either on or off. I want to prevent the running state from changing from 'off' to 'on' when the door is 'open', and also prevent the door from being set to 'open' while the machine is 'on'. I have this functionality rigged up with a bunch of if statements. It feels inelegant and it could quickly turn into spaghetti code if I want to add another state that puts additional conditions on the changes of other states. I wonder, is a finite state machine a solution for this situation? Would it simplify adding states and defining valid transitions?

They are often separate applications on the website, but sometimes share UDFs, etc. We currently have 3 public-facing environment websites - i.e. dev.website.com, test.website.com, and www.website.com. As the programmer, I'm trying to find a good solution to allow for UA testing of multiple projects/tasks at once. Currently, I'm finding myself switching between code branches (using SubVersion). What some of my options?

  I'm basically familiar with what I need in order to setup web services to talk with a centralized db, but if I don't have to go through and do all the work, I'd rather not. Is there an open source solution that would allow me to easily integrate web services for data transfer to a central db? I want to make a site that is powered by a db that can also be accessed by other things like mobile apps for example. What are the steps involved in setting up such a site? Any help is appreciated! I could use all the help I can get!

  I have a client who has their e-mail hosted with Network Solutions and some of the e-mails they are sending are going to spam. I've searched Google for information on network solutions and SPF records but all the results have to do with "how to set up an SPF record" - which I understand how to do. The problem is that I can't find any information about what SPF records to use for network solutions hosted e-mail. I even tried lookup up spf records on networksolutions.com but it appears there are none. Where can I find SPF record information for Network Solution hosted email?
