Using javascript, I need to parse the Content-Type text/html portion of an email message and extract just the HTML part. Here's an example of the part of the mail source in question: ------=_Part_1504541_510475628.1327512846983 Content-Type: text/html; charset=UTF-8 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit <html ... a bunch of html ... /html> I want to extract everything between (and including) the <html> tags after text/html. How do I do this? NOTE: I'm OK with a hacky regex. I don't expect this to be bulletproof.

Possible to write an Extension Method for ASP.NET's Html.ActionLink() method?

Right now, I'm trying to work around an IE6/7 bug which requires the wrapping of the </a closing tag with this IE specific comment to make some drop-down menu work: </a> Unfortunately, I cannot inject this directly into my View page code like this: <%= Html.ActionLink("LinkName</a>","Action","Controller") %> As Html.ActionLink will do the safe thing and filter out the comment to prevent a Javascript injection attack. Ok, cool. I'm fine with that. Good design decision. What I'd like to do is write an Extension Method to this, but the process is eluding me as I haven't done this before. I thought this would work, but Intellisense doesn't seem to be picking up this Extension method that I've written. public static class MyLinkExtensions { public static string ActionLinkIE(this HtmlHelper htmlHelper, string linkText, string actionName, string controllerName) { return LinkExtensions.ActionLink(htmlHelper, linkText, actionName, controllerName). Execute javascript in PHP

I'm generating your typical Web 2.0 HTML page with PHP: it contains a lot of <script> tags and javascript code that will substantially change the DOM after the load event. Is there a way to get the final HTML code directly from PHP, without opening the page with any browser? For example, let's say the HTML for the page is (it's just an example): <html> <head> <script>...the jquery library code...</script> <script>$(document).ready(function() { $("body").append("<p>Hi!</p>");</script> </head> <body> </body> </html> This HTML is saved in the $html PHP variable. Now, I want to pass that variable to some function that will return $result = <html>....<body><p>Hi!</p></body></html>. Is this possible?

Validating JSP's and HTML Forms, Server-side or Client-side, or both?

I am aware that I can Google "HTML Form Validation" and would get a billion tutorials. I am well aware that I can use simple JavaScript to validate form input, but I have been told that this is not necessarily an efficient method. I have also heard that it is a best practice to validate both client and server-side code. OK! Well, What exactly does this mean besides writing code on both? Does it mean I do some with JavaScript and other with Servlet's or does it mean that I write identical validation methods on both? My real question is can anybody give me insight and direction as how to go about validation my HTML forms. I am using JSP's and Servlet's and I have tons of form validation to do. I have already done minor form validation with regex in Java, but want to figure out if Im heading in the right track before I write any more code. Only productive answers please, If I wanted negative feedback on how inexperienced I was, I would have gone to Reddit. Thanks!

Return lines in input code causing gaps/whitespace between elements in output?

I am trying to put images next to each other on a webpage. Here is my HTML: <img class="pt" src="Yellow Tulip.jpg" title="Yellow Tulip" alt="Yellow Tulip" /> <img class="pt" src="Pink Tulip.jpg" title="Pink Tulip" alt="Pink Tulip" /> <img class="pt" src="Purple Tulip.jpg" title="Purple Tulip" alt="Purple Tulip" /> However, on my webpage, this shows a gap between each image. I've noticed that once I remove the return line that makes the elements separate and readable and instead just put all the elements on one line, the gaps go away. <img class="pt" src="Yellow Tulip.jpg" title="Yellow Tulip" alt="Yellow Tulip" /><img class="pt" src="Pink Tulip.jpg" title="Pink Tulip" alt="Pink Tulip" /><img class="pt" src="Purple Tulip.jpg" title="Purple Tulip" alt="Purple Tulip" /> Is there anyway I can achieve the output of the latter but still have the code/input look like the former? I really like the readability that the return lines (enter spaces) bring to the code, but I don't want the whitespace it creates on the actual page. If someone could explain why this is and/or how to fix it, I'd be really grateful! :)

Resetting default Input Method in Mac OS 10.6

I'm a Dvorak guy. I recently installed a new machine at the inlaws who are not Dvorak people. I stupidly selected Dvorak as my Input Method of choice while installing OS X. Now, all of the users I created default to Dvorak and need to go through the manual process of removing Dvorak as their Input Method of choice and instead choosing U.S. I have no idea how far reaching the implications might be. Could be that any time another user is added they will default to Dvorak. Right now, I'd like to set the default back to U.S. How can I do that? Behaviors I'm looking for include that when the Input Menu is not shown at the Login Screen, U.S. is the keyboard layout. Any future users created should default to U.S. with no Input Menu in the menu bar. Any users created already should have their default layout be U.S. Thanks in advance!

Including some static html files?

Hi, Where can we place static html files in our war file? For example, a default project has this: war/projectname.html I'd like to just make a few static folders with static pages that are like: war/projectname.html war/signup/index.html war/about/index.html so that my users can just hit those static pages like: www.myproject.com/signup www.myproject.com/about where would I put folders like that in our project tree? I tried putting them under war/, just beside projectname.html (like above), but they don't seem to be available there, I just get a 404 error, Thanks

Is there a maximum number of input controls that can be used on an HTML form?

I have an ambitious requirement for an asp.net 2.0 web page that contains a table (gridview), and each row in the grid contains 6 select (dropdown) controls for data entry. The number of rows that will be displayed is dependent upon the user's search parameters, which are specified in another area of the page. Unfortunately, with the default (and even basic) search parameters specified, the grid could contain several hundred rows. I've noticed that the browser, in this case IE8, starts behaving rather erratically once I reach a large number of rows -- no documented evidence for the number of rows where this begins to be a problem. For example, trying to view the source of the page results in a message from IE stating that there was a problem with the page that forced the browser to reload it, and I never get the source. Obviously the page loads and renders rather slowly also. I know that my solution is probably going to involve paging the gridview such that it only displays 20 or so rows per page, and I'll have to write code to handle the saving of changes in the dropdown values when the user changes pages. I can probably turn off viewstate on the gridview also. However, the question I really want to pose is this -- has anyone seen a documented rule indicating the maximum number of input controls that an HTML browser form is supposed to be able to contain? I could not find anything on the Internet after doing a search, and I suspect the answer may be whatever the browser can handle based on the machine configuration it is running on. Any rules of thumb you use? Thanks for any suggestions. Rich

jQuery Reference First Column in HTML Table

I have a table where all of the cells are INPUT tags. I have a function which looks for the first input cell and replaces it with it's value. So this: <tr id="row_0" class="datarow"> <td><input class="tabcell" value="Injuries"></td> <td><input class="tabcell" value="01"></td> becomes this: <tr id="row_0" class="datarow"> <td>Injuries</td> <td><input class="tabcell" value="01"></td> Here is the first part of the function: function setRowLabels() { var row = []; $('.dataRow').each(function(i) { row.push($('td input:eq(0)', this).val() + ' - '); $('td input:eq(0)', this).replaceWith($('td input:eq(0)', this).val()); $('td input:gt(0)', this).each(function(e) { etcetera But when the page reloads, the first column is not an input type, so it changes the second column to text too! Can I tell it to only change the first column, no matter what the type is? I tried $('td:eq(0)', this).replaceWith($('td:eq(0)', this).val()); but it does not work. Any suggestions appreciated! How to return a variable from a javascript function into html body.

Hi there, I am still new to javascript, and I am trying to get a function to return a variable using html & javascript. Basically the function should just return whichever radio button that the user clicks on, although at the moment I don't see anything being returned at all. Writing all the html of a document with jquery instead of in the page body?

I'm a UI person currently working on a web application, where most of the people I work with are back end developers. I'm currently at a disagreement with them about whether or not the above is a prudent thing to do. This application doe use quite a bit of JavaScript, and wouldn't even work without it unfortunately. This being the case, One of the back end developers that I'm working with is claiming that pages could and even SHOULD be build completely with JavaScript or jquery. This caught me completely off guard. We're talking about div tags, lists, background images and text here. I'm trying to explain to him that this isn't the right way to do things at all, and from a best practices perspective: content(html) should be separate from presentation(css), and behavior(script etc.). I know that it's possible to write html in jquery, although I haven't done it, but am I wrong in my thinking that this isn't the way things should be done. Is it even possible to write ALL the code with jquery? would love to hear any thoughts either way, as I will be discussing this with him again tomorrow.

My thoughts on the future of the web with respect to flash, plugins, etc…

More than 10 years ago I was coding Java applets. They were great at the time because I could reasonably expect them to run the same way in Netscape and Internet Explorer. I could also reliably do asynchronous networking back to the server. But then, Microsoft pulled their native Java runtime from Windows and Internet Explorer. It got a lot harder to get applets running in people’s browsers. So I started writing ActiveX controls for IE and Java applets for Netscape. Then I switched to Flash, not for too long, but it was enough for me to see that it was a capable and curious implementation of animation, multimedia and script. I even wrote a few Silverlight controls, but then I stopped. I stepped back from all of the “richness” and “interactivity” and I thought about things like accessibility and SEO. I wondered how my apps and sites might appear to the greater world. I wondered how the developers I am working with, or who might be inheriting my code down the road, might interact with it. And I thought to myself, What the hell was I thinking? Those embedded controls are not what the web is about, and they run contrary to nearly all of the things that makes the web exciting and fosters innovation within and around. Those plugins or controls, or whatever you want to refer to them as, are only stop-gaps that fill a hole in the basic HTML/Script/CSS specifications, and that’s all they should ever be used for. Full stop. Period. For instance, I still make use of a nifty little flash control called SWFUpload because it lets me check file size before an upload starts. I can do the same thing from a Silverlight control. But rest assured, if I could do this from native javascript, I would in a second. In fact, the only reason I chose SWFUpload over a ton of other alternatives is that it has a great javascript API so I can do (nearly) all of the UI in regular HTML. And I ALWAYS provide a non-flash alternative for uploading, and for the rest of any website where the designer has insisted on some piece of creativity that requires flash (usually because the designer is also the flash developer, but that’s an aside…). The web is about openness, and about exposing that openness in such a way that it can be taken advantage of as a small part of a greater whole. Sure we need security and authentication and ssl and all that stuff, but for me, its something more profound. For me, the majority of what the web is, is about exposing something that delivers meaning. What meaning can we derive from an <object> tag? more later - joel

Creating <li> with JavaScript in an XUL Application

Hi! I try to create some li elements in my XUL Application. Theres only the text of the elements shown, but no list typical bullets and linebreaks. Example: text text text text text text text Heres the JS Code I use to create the list: var li = document.createElement('html:li'); var txt = document.createTextNode("only shown as simple text"); li.appendChild(txt); document.getElementById('someList').appendChild(li); HTML: <html:ul id="someList"> <html:li>this is shown in correct list style</html:li> </html:ul> I tried 'html:li' and also 'li' but nothing worked. Any suggestions?

iOS Touch Icon through XLSX file?

I'm setting up some iPads, and pointing Safari to www.mywebsite.com/spreadsheet.xlsx and it's displaying the document fine. That part is OK. I'm just wondering if there is a way to add a iOS Icon to the document so I can save it to the springboard of the iPad? Maybe embedding the document in HTML? PHP could also possibly be used but I'm really not sure how I would go about doing this, has anyone managed anything like this before?
