  • How do I handle a Controller that's not controlling a specific Model?

    I've got a nice MVC set up going but my website requires some views that don't map directly to a model. Specifically I've got some generic Reports users need to run, and now I'm creating a utility for comparing some system configurations. Right now the logic is crammed into a Reports Controller and I'm starting a Comparison Controller but this feels like a big abuse of the system. Both controllers use an assortment of different Models to pull data from, and they're only related based on what the user is doing. Reports are run from the Reports Controller and their views are all grouped together in the file system/URL structure. Is this an acceptable use of the Controller paradigm? I can't think of a better way to structure my Controllers, and making a Controller for each model I'm using to make reports/ect doesn't seem like a good idea; I'd end up with one Controller/Model/View per report or comparison, vastly complicating the apparent structure of my site.

  • Pass or Get a value from Parent ViewModel down to Sub-ViewModel?

    I am using the MVVM Light framework as well as Unity for DI. I have some nested Views, each bound to a corresponding ViewModel. The ViewModels are bound to each View's root control DataContext via the ViewModelLocator idea that Laurent Bugnion has put into MVVM Light. This allows for finding ViewModels via a static resource and for controlling the lifetime of ViewModels via a Dependency Injection framework, in this case Unity. It also allows for Expression Blend to see everything in regard to ViewModels and how to bind them. As I stated the Views have a healthy dose of nesting, but the ViewModels don't really know anything about each other. A parent view binds to its corresponding ViewModel via the static resource ViewModelLocator (which uses Unity to control the construction and lifetime of the ViewModel object). That parent view contains a user control in it that is another sub-view, which then goes and gets its corresponding ViewModel via the ViewModelLocator as well. The ViewModels don't have references to each other or know any hierarchy in regard to each other. So here's an example of how the ViewModels do interact via messaging. I've got a parent View that has a ComboBox databound to an ObservableCollection in its ViewModel. The ComboBox's SelectedItem is also bound (two-way) to a property on the ViewModel. When the selection of the ComboBox changes, this is to trigger updates in other Views and sub-Views. Currently I am accomplishing this via the Messaging system that is found in MVVM Light. So I'm wondering what the best practice would be to get information from one ViewModel to another? In this case, what I need to pass down to sub-ViewModels is basically a user Guid representing the currently logged in user. The top-most parent View (well, ViewModel) will know this information, but I'm not sure how to get it down into the sub-ViewModels. Some possible approaches I can think of: Should the sub-ViewModel ask the static resource ViewModelLocator for a reference to the same object the parent View is using and access the property that way? It seems like ViewModels going through each other's properties is not very clean and couples them together unnecessarily. I'm already using messaging to notify the sub-Views that the user selected a new item in the ComboBox and to update accordingly. But the object type that is being selected in the ComboBox is not really directly related to this data value that the sub-Views need.

So I need to find all "keys" where "basename" is null AND where child is not an array or where the array is empty and remove them. But I need to find and remove (unset) all keys where "basename" is null AND where child isn't an array or where the array is empty. Can anyone help me out and possibly tweak the function above? This would allow me to display limited Fields for update by the AsstAdmin and I can display a different name for the Field as well. How can I accomplish this task? Obviously the user won't be working with the pickled string directly. Also, the interface would need a widget for adding/removing strings from a set. What is the best way to go about doing this? I'm not super familiar with Django's admin system. Do I need to build a custom admin widget or something?   • CommandBinding broken in inner Custom Control when nesting two Custom Controls of the same type.

    I've done a Custom Control in form of a GroupBox but with an extra header which purpose is to hold a button or a stackpanel with buttons at the other side. I've added the a Dependency Property to hold the extra header and I've connected the customized template. Everything works fine until I put one of these controls in another one. Now the wierd stuff begins(at least in my eyes xP), the command binding in the inner control simply isn't set. I tried to use Snoop to gather some data, the see if the inherits is broken and when I clicked on the buttons which isn't doing what I want it to, boom, breakpoint triggered. So in some wierd way the Command isn't set until something that I don't know what it is, happens, which snoops triggers. I've also tried to put the buttons in the regular Header property and that works fine, but not with my own made. I could just switch places with them to make it like I want but now I'm curious to know where the problem lies... Now I wonder, what can I've missed?     I have a data with chinese characters as field names and data, I have imported them from xls to access 2007 and export them to ODBC. Then I use RODBC to read them in R, the field names is OK, but for the data, all of the chinese characters are shown as ?. I have read the RODBC manual and it said: If it is possible to set the DBMS or ODBC driver to communicate in the character set of the R session then this should be done. For example, MySQL can set the communication character set via SQL, e.g. SET NAMES 'utf8'. I guess this is the problem, but how can I provide this command to MySQL via RODBC? Thanks!

    Hi, I am using the BIRT report writer, and I have multiple tables with the same data structure. In my report design, I want to select the table my query uses as a report parameter (as part of a mysql query in the data set) -- but I can't figure it out. When I create the data set, it's great that I can use parameters in the form of SELECT * FROM WHERE ?, and set these to report parameters, but I get an error if I set the ? to the table, such as: SELECT * FROM ? WHERE 1 Is there another way I can do this? As it's java, I assume the syntax follows that of a PreparedStatement. In BIRT 2.5 there is a property binding option under the data set dialog... and I've tried setting my query as: "SELECT * FROM "+params["DataTable"].value+" WHERE 1", but that was also results in an error.

    I've got a few Unix shell scripts where I need to check that certain environment variables are set before I start doing stuff, so I do this sort of thing: if [ -z "$STATE" ]; then echo "Need to set STATE" exit 1 fi if [ -z "$DEST" ]; then echo "Need to set DEST" exit 1 fi which is a lot of typing. Is there a more elegant idiom for checking that a set of environment variables is set? EDIT: I should mention that these variables have no meaningful default value - the script should error out if any are unset.

I do a loop over l and lf and when I find an intersection between an element from l and another from lf, I would like to merge them (union) But I can't figure out why this is not working. The first to elements of the list l are being inserted with the append command, but the union is not working. My final list lf looks like [set([1, 2]), set([3, 4])] It seems to be something pretty basic, but I'm not familiar with sets. I appreciate any help Thanks

    If I have a C++ set, declaration set personList; with iterator, set::const_iterator location; how can I print out the contents of the set? They are all person objects, and I have overridden the operator<< for Person. The line that errors is: cout << location and it's in a basic for loop. Netbeans gives the following error: proj.cpp:78: error: no match for ‘operator<<’ in ‘std::cout << location’ so it looks like it wants an override for the iterator's <<. Basically, I am taking objects that used to be stored in an array format, but are now in a set. What is the equivalent to cout << array[i] for sets?

    I am having a problem changing a List that has a set-size in Java. I understand that I can't add or remove from this list but why can't I use set? When I use set the UnsupportedOperationException is thrown as well as when I use add and remove which is expected. set public Object set(int index, Object element) Replaces the element at the specified position in this list with the specified element (optional operation). I understand its an optional operation its just that want to replace that one element of the list with another element. Is there any way I can do this?

    Hi I have the following powershell script: Import-Module BitsTransfer Get-BitsTransfer -AllUsers | Set-BitsTransfer -SetOwnerToCurrentUser which is running on Server2008 R2. I get the error message: Set-BitsTransfer : Access is denied. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED)) I have googled around but cannot seem to find the reason why this happens or how to fix this. I suspect it is a permission issue. I am logged in as local administrator and use the 'Run as administrator' option when starting powershell. I have also tried setting the execution policy, but it makes no difference. I am not aware of permissions on commands in powershell. Could someone please shed some light on this. Thanks. Rouan

    After a few reading about jvm memory (here, here, here, others I forgot...), I am expecting the resident set size of my java process to be roughly equal to the current heap space capacity.   • Software restriction policies set in the registry don't update Local Group Policy

    The joys of a Samba domain... First off Domain Group policy can't be used until Samba 4 arrives. We need to setup Software Restriction Policies (SRPs) on most of the computers in our Samba domain and I would dearly like to automate this. (We are moving away from just disabling the Windows installer). The traditional way is to set SRPs using Local Group Policy (LGP) Computer Conf-Windows Settings-SRP but this involves visiting every machine as it can't be set using in NTConfig.pol. It is possible to attempt to create the SRPs directly in the registry: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Safer\CodeIdentifiers\262144\Paths\{30628f61-eb47-4d87-823b-6683a09eda87}] "LastModified"=hex(b):40,a2,94,09,b5,5d,ca,01 "Description"="" "SaferFlags"=dword:00000000 "ItemData"="C:\\location\\subfolder" SaferFlags DWORD seems to be what turns it on or off, but although this seems to work it does not update the Local Group Policy - SRPs still show as "No SRPs Defined". Where does the LGP store this setting - is it even in the registry and more importantly - Is there a cleverer way of setting up SRPs?

  • New set up DHCP Server on Server 2008 R2 won't work, Event-ID 1046

    I just set up a 2008 R2 as DC, and DNS. Both worked fine, DNS works fine forward and reverse lookup. Now I wanted to install DHCP. As soon as the installation of the role is finished, I get this Event-ID Error 1046: Link When I first set it up there was also a Event-ID 1059 Error: Link The dhcp server is authorized. I don't know what else I should do. Getting crazy here, hope you guys can help me.

  • IIS requesting certificates even though set to ignore

    I have a web site in IIS 6 with directory security set to Require secure channel (SSL) and Require 128-bit encryption. Also, the Client certificates setting is set to "Ignore client certificates". When I hit https://servername/resource in Internet Explorer and Chrome , I am prompted for a certificate. I can cancel the prompt, and the resource will load, but I don't want to see this prompt at all. I looked at the virtual directories and resources within the web site, and they all have the ignore client certificates setting on. Could there be another setting, perhaps in the metbase, that is overriding the web site's directory security settings?

  • How to set WAN side buffers for WRT54GL running Tomato Firmware

    I've recently set up a machine running m0n0wall to try and fight buffer bloat and do some traffic shaping. It was more convenient (geographically speaking) to connect the cable modem directly to my old WRT54GL, then pass everything to the m0n0wall machine and have that do the real routing work. It took a bit of work, but it's working pretty well. I have a cable connection. I have m0n0wall set up to utilize only 90% of the specified speed of my subscription, which is fine. But I've noticed that at certain times of the day (possibly when my true bandwidth drops below that 90%), there's more latency if the connection is used heavily, and traffic shaping doesn't seem to work as well. I suspect this is caused by the buffers on the WRT54GL still being unnecessarily large. If the connection is working as expected, they won't get filled, but in times of reduced bandwidth they would. Does anyone know the command I need to execute, on the WRT54GL running Tomato Firmware, to reduce the buffers on the WAN interface to the minimum size possible?
