  • Rails (pagination and tags)

    - by Vitaly
Hey, I stumbled upon a problem of how to mix both acts_as_taggable (on steroids) and will_paginate gems. What I found on this problem is this: http://www.mckinneystation.com/2007/08/20/pagination-with-acts_as_taggable_on_steroids-acts_as_ferret-and-will_paginate/ But it's dated of 2007, may be there's something more recent? And also could you explain in details what should I do to make that fix work?

  • Ruby on Rails: Javascript: How to grob focus when the text box appears

    - by DerNalia
    So, I have <script type="text/javascript"> function grabFocus(){ document.getElementByID("category_name").focus(); } </script> <div> <h1>New category</h1> <br/> <% remote_form_for :category, @category, :url=>{:action=>'ajax_create'} do |f| %> <%= f.error_messages %> <%= f.hidden_field :object_type %> <p> <%= f.text_field :name, :label=>false %> <%= f.submit 'Create' %> </p> <% end %> <br/> </div> and before I just had the <script type="text/javascript"> document.getElementByID("category_name").focus(); </script> at the bottom of the file. but other websites suggested that I make it a function, and call it in onLoad... but the partial I'm working with (entire thing pasted above) doesn't have a body... I'm showing the partial in the iframe that facebox uses... ideas?

  • Rails Seed confusion

    - by sscirrus
I'm having trouble seeding my database using seed.rb, specifically where table relationships are concerned. Here's a sample of the code: # seed.rb user = User.find_or_create_by_login( :login => "myname", :email => "[email protected]", :user_type => "Admin", :password => "admin", :password_confirmation => "admin") project = Project.find_or_create_by_user_id( :user_id => user.id, :name => "Test Project") When project is created (along with other unrelated parameters I've left out from above), user_id is empty. How can I get this to work?

  • Ruby on Rails: link_to_remote and rel

    - by DerNalia
    I want a link to remote to have a rel tag, because I want to use facebox with it. I had it working with a regular link to... but I needed the link to remote to handle the event that a user doesn't have javascript enabled. this, currently does't work (except for the non-javascript part ) <%= link_to_remote "Ask a Question", {:url => {:action => :ask_question, :id => @container.id.to_s, :javascript_disabled => false }, :rel => 'facebox'}, :href => url_for( :controller => :view, :action => :ask_question, :id => @container.id.to_s, :javascript_disabled => true) %>

  • How to sanitize sql fragment in Rails

    - by dimus
I have to sanitize a part of sql query. I can do something like this: class << ActiveRecord::Base public :sanitize_sql end str = ActiveRecord::Base.sanitize_sql(["AND column1 = ?", "two's"], '') But it is not safe because I expose protected method. What is a better way to do it?

  • How do I REALLY get started programming in Ruby on Rails

    - by Nate
I can't figure out where exactly to go in order to write the Ruby code itself. I know that I can enter things line-by-line in Terminal (I'm on a Mac), but I'd like to figure out how to start using something like Xdrive (Apple won't allow me to download Xrive because I have OS X 10.5, not 10.6). What steps do I need to take in order to start writing code in a program like xDrive. Thank you in advance.

Item.find(:all, :include => [ :external_ratings, :photos => LIMIT 1 ]) I have a list of items and each item has between 5 and 15 photos. • Rails can't find my route but it exists!

    - by DJTripleThreat
Ok I have events that I want to publish/unpublish with an extra action (nonRESTful) I watched Ryan Bates' railscast on this: http://railscasts.com/episodes/35-custom-rest-actions and it got me most of the way. I think the problem is that my route is nested in an /admin section so even though when I run rake routes and get: publish_admin_event PUT /admin/events/:id/publish(.:format) {:controller=>"event_services", :action=>"publish"} This won't work in my /views/admin/index.html.erb file: <%= link_to 'Publish', publish_admin_event(event), :method => :put %> because it claims that path doesn't exist! And neither will this: <%= link_to 'Publish', {:controller => :event_services, :action => :publish}, {:method => :put, :id => event} %> and says that "No route matches {:controller=>"event_services", :action=>"publish"}" so what gives? (And I've tried restarting my server so that isn't it.) EDIT: This DOES work: <%= link_to 'Publish', "/admin/events/" + event.id.to_s + "/publish", :method => :put %> But I'd rather NOT do this.

  • Rails: render a partial from a plugin

    - by Sam
I'm getting a missing template error after I try rendering a partial from a plugin. I have included the files with the following: %w{ models controllers helpers views }.each do |dir| path = File.join(File.dirname(__FILE__), 'app', dir) $LOAD_PATH << path ActiveSupport::Dependencies.load_paths << path ActiveSupport::Dependencies.load_once_paths.delete(path) end The Models are getting loaded, but as for other things I'm not sure what's going on. The helpers are not getting loaded too because I just copied the contents of the partial from the plugin instead of the render :partial = and then it came up with a helper error. Question is how to be able to :render :partial = from the views folder in my plugin

    - by Vincent
Currently I have this in my layout: <body class="<%= controller.controller_name %>"> I want to add an additional class that will be the same for all actions in any controller where it's set, something like: class SomeController < ApplicationController body_class 'page' ... end class AnotherController < ApplicationController body_class 'page' ... end Which will result in: <body class="some page"> <body class="another page"> What would be the easiest way to achieve this? Can I use controller class variables for this?

  • Loading and managing reference data in Rails

    - by jonnii
Most of the apps I've worked on have had some kind of reference data stored in the database, for example categories, zipcodes, area codes etc... this is information that's going to change very infrequently. Most of the time you want to load some kind of display name, and that's it. Currently this isn't causing me too many headaches, it's easy to :include the models I need when doing my queries, but going forward it causes a lot of query noise. Ideally I'd like to load the reference data when the app starts and when referencing it in queries it'll load from the cache instead of going to the database. What's the best way to manage this?

  • Bootstrap Modal & rails remote

    - by Kevin Brown
Using this bootstrap modal extension and animate.css for fun, how can I take a make an easy ajax modal using :remote => true to fill in the modal box? Also, how would I use the bootstrap modal default "submit/cancel" buttons to interact with a form that's loaded? I'm looking for a more dynamic solution instead of hard-html-ing every modal into the page or using a bunch of jquery ajax calls for each dialog. I've done a few quick searches, but they've turned up nil for this particular solution.

  • How to test the XML sent to a web service in Ruby/Rails

    - by Jason Langenauer
I'm looking for the best way to write unit test for code that POSTs to an external web service. The body of the POST request is an XML document which describes the actions and data for the web service to perform. Now, I've wrapped the webservice in its own class (similar to ActiveResource), and I can't see any way to test the exact XML being generated by the class without breaking encapsulation by exposing some of the internal XML generation as public methods on the class. This seems to be a code smell - from the point-of-view of the users of the class, they should not know, nor care, how the class actually implements the web service call, be it with XML, JSON or carrier pigeons. For an example of the class: class Resource def new #initialize the class end def save! Http.post("http://webservice.com", self.to_xml) end private def to_xml # returns an XML representation of self end end I want to be able to test the XML generated to ensure it conforms to what the specs for the web service are expecting. So can I best do this, without making to_xml a public method?

  • Sanitizing CSS in Rails

    - by Erik
Hello! I want to allow the users of a web app that I'm building to write their own CSS in order to customize their profile page. However I am aware of this opening up for many security risks, i e background: url('javascript:alert("Got your cookies! " + document.cookies'). Hence I am looking for a solution to sanitize the CSS while still allowing as much CSS functionality as possible for my users. So my questions if anyone anyone knows of a gem or a plugin to handles this? I've googled my brains out already so any tips would be really appreciated!

  • Only show non blank attributes for a model in views in Rails

    - by Senthil
Say I've a user model and there are bunch of user info, like email, birthdate, location, telephone number etc. What's the simplest way of hiding the attributes that are blank? I've doing something like <% if blog.title.empty? -%> <p>Body: <%=h blog.body %></p> <p>Comments: <%=h blog.comments %></p> <% elsif blog.body.empty? %> <p>Title: <%=h blog.title %></p> <p>Comments: <%=h blog.comments %></p> <% else -%> <p>Title: <%=h blog.title %></p> <p>Body: <%=h blog.body %></p> <% end -%> Clearly that is one ugly child. Other than using partials to render, is there a trick to only show non blank fields? I've been trying to write a helpher method to make the view cleaner, but that's even more ugly. Any help is appreciated.
