class User has_many :comments end class Comment belongs_to :user named_scope :recent, :order => 'comments.created_at DESC' named_scope :limit, lambda { |limit| {:limit => limit}} named_scope :by_unique_users end what would I put in the :by_unique_users so that I can do Comment.recent.by_unique_users.limit(3), and only get one comment per user on sqlite named_scope :by_unique_user, :group = "user_id" works, but makes it freak out on postgres, which is deployed on production PGError: ERROR: column "comments.id" must appear in the GROUP BY clause or be used in an aggregate function

  • rails: has_many :through + polymorphism validation?

    - by ramonrails
I am trying to achieve this. Any hints? A project has many users through join model A user has many projects through join model Admin class inherits User class. It also has some Admin specific stuff. Admin like inheritance for Supervisor and Operator Project has one Admin, One supervisor and many operators. Now I want to 1. submit data for project, admin, supervisor and operator in a single project form 2. validate all and show errors on the project form. Project has_many :users, :through = :projects_users User has_many :projects, :through = :projects_users ProjectsUser = :id integer, :user_id :integer, :project_id :integer, :user_type :string ProjectUser belongs_to :project, belongs_to :user, :polymorphic = true Admin < User Supervisor < User Operator < User Is the approach correct? Any and all suggestions are welcome.

  • Smart Background Thread Task in Ruby on Rails?

    - by elado
I need to perform a task every 5 seconds, but only when users are using the application. As for now, I use cron that works every minute and activates a task that repeats itself every 5 seconds with sleeps between, for a minute. However, it works also when the application isn't being used. Is there a gem that will do this kind of thing?

  • Help me write a nicer SQL query in Rails

    - by Sainath Mallidi
Hi, I am trying to write an SQL query to update some of the attributes that are regularly pulled from source. the output will be a text file with the following fields: author, title, date, popularity I have two tables to update one is the author information and the other is popularity table. And the Author Active Record object has one popularity. Currently I'm doing it like this.\ arr.each { |x| x = x.split(" ") results = Author.find_by_sql("SELECT authors.id FROM authors, priorities WHERE authors.id=popularity.authors_id AND authors.author = x[0]") results[0].popularity.update_attribute("popularity", x[3]) I need two tables because the popularity keeps changing, and I need only the top 1000 popular ones, but I still need to keep the previously popular ones also. Is there any nicer way to do this, instead of one query for every new object. Thanks.

  • Rails fixtures seem to be adding extra unexpected data

    - by Mason Jones
Hello, all. I've got a dynamic fixture CSV file that's generating predictable data for a table in order for my unit tests to do their thing. It's working as expected and filling the table with the data, but when I check the table after the tests run, I'm seeing a number of additional rows of "blank" data (all zeros, etc). Those aren't being created by the fixture, and the unit tests are read-only, just doing selects, so I can't blame the code. There doesn't seem to be any logging done during the fixtures setup, so I can't see when the "blank" data is being inserted. Anyone ever run across this before, or have any ideas of how to log or otherwise see what the fixture setup is doing in order to trace down the source of the blank data?

  • Rails, Rake, moving a folder to a new location

    - by Sam
I need to move a folder from a plugin to the main app/views. I guess using rake to do this with the following command is the easiest way: require 'fileutils' FileUtils.mv('/vendor/plugins/easy_addresses/lib/app/views', '/app/views/') I'm just not sure where to tell script where to look and where to place the folder. The file I want to move is in the following location: `vender/plugins/easy_addresses/lib/app/views/easy_addresses easy_ addresses is the name of the folder in views that I want to move to my_app/app/views/

  • Rails: RESTful Find, Initialize, or Create

    - by Andrew
I have an app that has Cities in it. I'm looking for some suggestions on how to RESTfully structure a controller so that I can lookup, initialize, and create city records via AJAX requests. For instance: Given a text field city_name A user enters the name of a City, like "Paris, France" The app checks this location to see if there is such a city in the database already If there is, it returns the city object If there is not, it returns a new record initialized with the name "Paris" and the country "France", and prompts the user to confirm they want to add this city to the database If the user says "Yes" the record is saved. If not the record is discarded and the form is cleared. Now, my first approach was to change the Create action to use find_or_create, so that an AJAX post to cities_path would result in either returning the existing city or creating it and returning it. That works ok... However, it would be better to setup controller actions that would take a string input, find , or else initialize and return, then only create if the user confirms the generated record is correct. The ideal scenario would put this all in one action so AJAX request can go to that url, the server responds with JSON objects, and javascript can handle things from there. I'd like to keep all the user-interaction logic client side, and also minimize the number of requests it takes to achieve this. Any suggestions on the cleanest, most RESTful way to accomplish this?

  • Regex to validate for Unique Well Identifier in rails

    - by Jasper502
I am a regex newbie and can't seem to figure this one out. Here is a link to the required string formats: http://earth.gov.bc.ca/royp-bin/phcgi.exe?PH_QKC=DOCUWI&PH_APP=RMSprodApp&PH_HTML=DOCUWI.htm For example: 100041506421W500 = 1+0+{01-16}+{01-36}+{001-129}+{01-36}+W+{1-6}+0+{0-9} I tried this: ^10[0|2-9]{1}0*([1-9]|1[0-6])0*([1-9]|[12][0-9]|3[0-6])0*([1-9][0-9]|1[0-2][0-9])0*([1-9]|[12][0-9]|3[0-6])W[1-6]0[0-9]$ In a regex validator and it sort of works except that 1041506421W500 and 10000000041506421W500 validates. The entire string can only be 16 characters long. I am pretty sure I am missing something obvious here regarding the leading zeros. Tried the NTS format and running into the same sort of problems.

  • Rails routing of a controller's functions query

    - by Jty.tan
So I've got a Users controller, and it has (amongst others) a function called details. The idea is that a user can go to localhost:3000/user/:user_id/details and be able to view the details of :user_id. For example, I have a user called "tester". When I go to the uri: http://localhost:3000/users/tester/details I'd want the details function to be called up, to render the details view, and to display the information for the user tester. But instead I get an error saying that No action responded to tester. Actions: change_password, create, current_user, details, forgot_password, index, login_required, new, redirect_to_stored, show, and update_attributes And I understand that to basically mean that if I wanted to access details, I should really be using http://localhost:3000/users/details Except that that isn't really working either... .< That is instead bringing me to http://localhost:3000/users/details/registries (which is the default path that I'd stipulated for anybody trying to view users/:user_id, so again, that's working the way I wanted it to) Point is: Can anybody help and tell me how I can go about getting users/:user_id/details to work the way I want it to and display the details of :user_id? Thanks!

  • Rails: updating an association

    - by Sam
I have a Reservation model which belongs_to a Sharedorder and so a Sharedorder has_many reservations. Give you a little background. I sharedorder has many reservations and each reservation can have an amount. A sharedorder has three status: 1) reserved, 2) confirmed, 3) and purchased. Here is my problem. When a reservation gets added to a sharedorder or an existing reservation's amount is updated I need this to affect the associated sharedoder because the status listed latter should only change when 100% of the reservations have been placed and so on. Here are the things I have tried: . class Reservation < ActiveRecord::Base before_save :sharedorder_reserved_status def sharedorder_reserved_status if self.sharedorder.reserved_percent(reservations_to_be_added) >= 100 && !self.sharedorder.reserved self.sharedorder.update_attribute(:reserved, true) self.sharedorder.update_attribute(:reserved_at, Time.now) end end def reservations_to_be_added if self.new_record? self.amount elsif self.amount_changed? self.amount - self.amount_was else 0 end end end And then in the Sharedorder model: class Sharedorder < ActiveRecord::Base def reserved_percent(amount_change) (((reserved_sum + amount_change).to_f / self.product.twenty_hq_size.to_f)*100).to_i end def reserved_sum if !@reserved_sum reserved_sum = 0 reserved_reservations.collect {|x| reserved_sum += x.amount } reserved_sum else @reserved_sum end end def reserved_reservations @reserved_reservations ||= Reservation.find(:all, :conditions => ['canceled = ? AND sharedorder_id = ?', false, self.id ]) end end I have also tried :touch => true on the reservation model to update the sharedorder put for some reason it doesn't seem to include the latest reservation being added or being updated. So what I'm trying to do is update the status of the sharedorder if a certain percent is reached and I have to send the additional amounts the the sharedorder for it to know to include additional reservations or updates on existing ones. How should I do this?

  • Rails Heroku Gemfile.lock error - push rejected (open source)

    - by KJ50
I am trying to push my open source RoR application to Heroku but I'm having an issue making the initial push. I have read many similar questions, but none of those answers has helped to solve my problem. I have tried bundle update and bundle install various times. I also have tried removing and then re-committing my Gemfile.lock file, however I get this same error still... $ git push heroku master Counting objects: 5199, done. Compressing objects: 100% (3086/3086), done. Writing objects: 100% (5199/5199), 4.57 MiB | 131 KiB/s, done. If anyone has any insight which could help me resolve this issue I would be very thankful!

  • Rails: Design Pattern to Store Order of Relations

    - by ChrisInCambo
Hi, I have four models: Customer, QueueRed, QueueBlue, QueueGreen. The Queue models have a one to many relationship with customers A customer must always be in a queue A customer can only be in one queue at a time A customer can change queues We must be able to find out the customers current position in their respective queue In an object model the queues would just have an array property containing customers, but ActiveRecord doesn't have arrays. In a DB I would probably create some extra tables just to handle the order of the stories in the queue. My question is what it the best way to model the relationship in ActiveRecord? Obviously there are many ways this could be done, but what is the best or the most in line with how ActiveRecord should be used? Cheers, Chris

  • catching the value of a time_select in rails.

Hello, I have a form that has two field (time_selects), the idea is that the user can select the beginning of a call and end time of the call. I've setup a observe field and works fine: <%= observe_field "llamada_inicio_4i", :update => "total", :with => "llamada_inicio_4i", :url => { :controller => "llamadas", :action => "time_tracker"}%> Sends the value out: Processing LlamadasController#time_tracker (for 127.0.0.1 at 2010-04-22 17:48:41) [POST] Parameters:"llamada_inicio_4i"="23",authenticity_token"="+D+yPSVue6yQNfPMuVLkrJn7B9tP6z5S1icKpPFTiso="} Rendering template within layouts/llamadas Rendering llamadas/time_tracker Completed in 5ms (View: 3, DB: 0) | 200 OK [http://0.0.0.0/llamadas /time_tracker] How can i catch this value Parameters:"llamada_inicio_4i"="23"

  • Ruby on Rails: Uploading a modifed site.

    - by Califer
I'm having a heck of a time getting a site I modified to work correctly. I didn't set the site up originally, and since the person that set it up no longer works with me I had to learn ruby just to make some changes. I made all the changes in the development server and everything worked fine. Then I did a diff on the production and development and moved only my changes over. Unfortunately when I loaded my changes onto the production server I got a lot of errors. I've changed all of the permissions to 755, which took care being able to access anything at all, but after that I started getting a lot of 500 errors. Nothing showed up in the production.log file. I really have no clue what's going wrong except that perhaps things are not noticing the new changes. I moved the old site to a backup folder, and the new site crashes whenever it goes to anything that I've changed. In particular, I added a link to a new setup with an extra controller/model/view group. It works fine on development but in production it gives me a 404. Yes, I did copy all the files up. I even put everything back how it was, but the website is still showing the broken version of it. I checked the tmp/cache folder but it was empty. Running dispatch.fcgi shows the old site (which I expected) but it still shows the flawed new site when I connect through a browser. I've been tearing my hair out trying to get this to work. Any ideas as to how I can get this to work?

I am trying to create a link to download a file from the file system. For this, I define the following in the "license_helper.rb" file: def license_download_link(license, link_text = nil) if link_text.blank? link_text = image_tag("download_icon.png", :border => 0, :width => 32, :height =>32, :alt => 'Download License', :title => 'Download License') end tempLicenseFile = "tempLicense.xml" File.open("#{tempLicenseFile}", 'w') do |tf| tf.puts license.data end command = "./runLicenseEncoder.bat #{tempLicenseFile}" generateEncryptedLicenseFile = `#{command}` theLicenseFile = "license.xml" link_to link_text, "license/download" end My "view" just calls this helper class: <td><%= license_download_link(license, ' ') %></td> In the 'routes.rb' file, I have defined the following: map.licensedownload "license.xml", :controller = 'licenses', :action = 'download' map.download "/licenses/download", :controller = 'licenses', :action = 'download' In the 'controller', I have 'licenses_controller.rb' which includes the following: def download theLicense = @license licenseFileName = "license.xml" send_file "#{licenseFileName}" , :type => "application/xml", :filename => "#{licenseFileName}" end However, I am unable to obtain the '@license' attribute from the database in the controller. Could someone please let me know what I am doing wrong here and why I am unable to get the value for "@license". Thanks for your time, Regards, --- AJ

  • [Rails] checkbox to update attribute

    - by Jeff
[Updated a bit] I have a Task model that has a :completed boolean attribute. If I click on it I want it to execute the 'finish' method. The main problem is that I am displays a series of checkboxes in a list and subsequent checkboxes after the first one are ignored. The method is never called for the given task/checkbox combo. I have this chunk of code in my view: <% current_user.tasks.each do |t|%> <% if t.completed == false %> <%= check_box_tag :completed, true, checked = false %> <%= observe_field :completed, :url => { :controller => 'tasks', :action => :finish , :id => t.id }, :frequency => 0.25, :update => :completed, :with => true %> and my finish method looks like this: def finish @task = Task.find(params[:id]) new = {:completed => true} @task.update_attributes(new) render :update do |page| page.replace_html "taskListing", :partial => 'home/task_listing' end
