  • Splitting input into substrings in PIG (Hadoop)

    - by Niels Basjes
Assume I have the following input in Pig: some And I would like to convert that into: s so som some I've not (yet) found a way to iterate over a chararray in pig latin. I have found the TOKENIZE function but that splits on word boundries. So can "pig latin" do this or is this something that requires a Java class to do that?

  • [NEWVERSION]algorithm || method to write prog[UNSOLVED] [closed]

    - by fatai
I am one of the computer science student. Everyone solve problem with a different or same method, ( but actually I dont know whether they use method or I dont know whether there are such common method to approach problem.) if there are common method, What is it ? If there are different method, which method are you using ? All teacher give us problem which in simple form sometimes, but they donot introduce any approach or method(s) so that we cannot make a decision to choose the method then apply that one to problem , afterward find solution then write code.No help from teacher , push us to find method to solve homework. Ex: my friend is using no method , he says "I start to construct algorithm while I try to write prog." I have found one method when I failed the course, More accurately, my method: When I counter problem in language , I will get more paper and then ; first, input/ output step ; my prog will take this / these there argument(s) and return namely X , ex : in c, input length is not known and at same type , so I must use pointer desired output is in form of package , so use structure second, execution part ; in that step , I am writing all step which are goes to final output ex : in python ; 1.) [ + , [- , 4 , [ * , 1 , 2 ]], 5] 2.) [ + , [- , 4 , 2 ],5 ] 3.) [ + , 2 , 5] 4.) 7 ==> return 7 third, I will write test code ex : in c++ input : append 3 4 5 6 vector_x remove 0 1 desired output vector_x holds : 5 6 now, my other question is ; What is/are other method(s) which have/has been; used to construct class :::: for c++ , python, java used to communicate classes / computers used for solving embedded system problem ::::: for c by other user? Some programmer uses generalized method without considering prog-language(java , perl .. ), what is this method ? Why I wonder , because I learn if you dont costruct algorithm on paper, you may achieve your goal. Like no money no lunch , I can say no algorithm no prog therefore , feel free when you write your own method , a way which is introduced by someone else but you are using and you find it is so efficient

  • software for sorting algorithms animation

    - by Dinesh
I am planning on working on an interactive application that graphically animates the various sorting algorithms in action. Most of the examples of this kind on the web seems to be using java applets. I was wondering what other software/tools would be well suited to develop an application like this. It may or may not be web-based. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Dinesh

  • Make a compiled binary run at native speed flawlessly without recompiling from source on a another system?

    - by unknownthreat
I know that many people, at a first glance of the question, may immediately yell out "Java", but no, I know Java's qualities. Allow me to elaborate my question first. Normally, when we want our program to run at a native speed on a system, whether it be Windows, Mac OS X, or Linux, we need to compile from source codes. If you want to run a program of another system in your system, you need to use a virtual machine or an emulator. While these tools allow you to use the program you need on the non-native OS, they sometimes have problems of performance and glitches. We also have a newer compiler called "JIT Compiler", where the compiler will parse the bytecode program to native machine language before execution. The performance may increase to a very good extent with JIT Compiler, but the performance is still not the same as running it on a native system. Another program on Linux, WINE, is also a good tool for running Windows program on Linux system. I have tried running Team Fortress 2 on it, and tried experiment with some settings. I got ~40 fps on Windows at its mid-high setting on 1280 x 1024. On Linux, I need to turn everything low at 1280 x 1024 to get ~40 fps. There are 2 notable things though: Polygon model settings do not seem to affect framerate whether I set it low or high. When there are post-processing effects or some special effects that require manipulation of drawn pixels of the current frame, the framerate will drop to 10-20 fps. From this point, I can see that normal polygon rendering is just fine, but when it comes to newer rendering methods that requires graphic card to the job, it slows down to a crawl. Anyway, this question is rather theoretical. Is there anything we can do at all? I see that WINE can run STEAM and Team Fortress 2. Although there are flaws, they can run at lower setting. Or perhaps, I should also ask, "is it possible to translate one whole program on a system to another system without recompiling from source and get native speed?" I see that we also have AOT Compiler, is it possible to use it for something like this? Or there are so many constraints (such as DirectX call or differences in software architecture) that make it impossible to have a flawless and not native to the system program that runs at native speed?

  • Open Source & Free Adhoc / End User Reporting Tool

    - by Santhanam
Hi, I am looking for an Open Source & Free Browser based Adhoc / End User Reporting Tool preferably based on Java (any other technologies are also welcome). I have researched on JasperServer Pro, BIRT & Pentaho. Even though these are open source & free, the end user/adhoc reporting components needs to be paid annual license fees which is not quite affordable for us. So please tell you suggestions Thanks In Advance.

  • Checklist for Launching public beta

    - by Vinayak
I am developing a web app that is about to be opened for public beta. Does anyone know of or has prepared a checklist of the various steps that one needs to take to ensure a smooth beta implementation? The web app is coded using Java, MySQL on the server side and HTML, Javascript on the client side with a little Flash in one or two screens. I know this question is very non-specific, but I am looking for best practices/guidelines here. Thanks in advance.

  • Example open source client-server code projects

    - by Ricket
I'm still trying to determine an answer to my question from a few minutes ago, "Should client-server code be written in one 'project' or two?" and I think it would benefit me to see how other projects organize their code (and hopefully deduce the pros and cons of why they chose to do it that way). What are some open source client-server projects which might be best to look at and mimic their code organization style? Java is preferred but not required.

  • Scala capture group using regex

    - by Geo
Let's say I have this code: val string = "one493two483three" val pattern = """two(\d+)three""".r pattern.findAllIn(string).foreach(println) I expected findAllIn to only return 483, but instead, it returned two483three. I know I could use unapply to extract only that part, but I'd have to have a pattern for the entire string, something like: val pattern = """one.*two(\d+)three""".r val pattern(aMatch) = string println(aMatch) // prints 483 Is there another way of achieving this, without using the classes from java.util directly, and without using unapply?

  • Installation of Jetty into Eclipse

    - by Claus Jørgensen
Hi I've had Jetty recommended as a good container for fast and simple development, in my case, Java Server Faces. I wish to use it with my Eclipse IDE (Version: 3.4.1), but quite frankly, can't figure out how. I've tried various outdated plugins, only with large amounts of errors in return, so I'm hoping someone could guide me from downloading the right version to installing it, and being able to press "RUN", and see a simple Hello World in JSP/JSF work. Cheers.

  • Validating against a Schema with JAXB

    - by fwgx
I've been looking for solutions to this problem for far too long considering how easy it sounds so I've come for some help. I have an XML Schema which I have used with xjc to create my JAXB binding. This works fine when the XML is well formed. Unfortunately it also doesn't complain when the XML is not well formed. I cannot figure out how to do proper full validation against the schema when I try to unmarshall an XML file. I have managed to use a ValidationEventCollector to handle events, which works for XML parsing errors such as mismatched tags but doesn't raise any events when there is a tag that is required but is completely absent. From what I have seen validation can be done againsta schema, but you must know the path to the schema in order to pass it into the setSchema() method. The problem I have is that the path to the schema is stored in the XML header and I can't knwo at run time where the schema is going to be. Which is why it's stored in the XML file: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <DDSSettings xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation="/a/big/long/path/to/a/schema/file/DDSSettings.xsd"> <Field1>1</Field1> <Field2>-1</Field2> ...etc Every example I see uses setValidating(true), which is now deprecated, so throws an exception. This is the Java code I have so far, which seems to only do XML validation, not schema validation: try { JAXBContext jc = new JAXBContext() { private final JAXBContext jaxbContext = JAXBContext.newInstance("blah"); @Override public Unmarshaller createUnmarshaller() throws JAXBException { Unmarshaller unmarshaller = jaxbContext.createUnmarshaller(); ValidationEventCollector vec = new ValidationEventCollector() { @Override public boolean handleEvent(ValidationEvent event) throws RuntimeException { ValidationEventLocator vel = event.getLocator(); if (event.getSeverity() == event.ERROR || event.getSeverity() == event.FATAL_ERROR) { String error = "XML Validation Exception: " + event.getMessage() + " at row: " + vel.getLineNumber() + " column: " + vel.getColumnNumber(); System.out.println(error); } m_unmarshallingOk = false; return false; } }; unmarshaller.setEventHandler(vec); return unmarshaller; } @Override public Marshaller createMarshaller() throws JAXBException { throw new UnsupportedOperationException("Not supported yet."); } @Override @SuppressWarnings("deprecation") public Validator createValidator() throws JAXBException { throw new UnsupportedOperationException("Not supported yet."); } }; Unmarshaller unmarshaller = jc.createUnmarshaller(); m_ddsSettings = (com.ultra.DDSSettings)unmarshaller.unmarshal(new File(xmlfileName)); } catch (UnmarshalException ex) { Logger.getLogger(UniversalDomainParticipant.class.getName()).log( Level.SEVERE, null, ex); } catch (JAXBException ex) { Logger.getLogger(UniversalDomainParticipant.class.getName()).log( Level.SEVERE, null, ex); } So what is the proper way to do this validation? I was expecting there to be a validate() method on the JAXB generated classes, but I guess that would be too simple for Java.

  • How has RIA technology evolved and what technology stack currently rules this domain?

    - by Rachel
I am new to RIA and have not been actively involved with this technology in my projects as we using server-side Java, but I want to gain some experience with RIA. My questions are: How has RIA technology evolved and in your opinion? What technology stack currently rules this domain? What are the recommended resources for learning RIA? In general what is the suggested approach for getting started on the RIA journey?
