  • EDIT Control Showing Squares Instead Of Returns

    - by Nathan Campos
I'm playing a little bit with PocketC by doing a simple text editor. But with this code to read and to display the contents of the file on the EDIT control: int filehandle; int file_len; string file_mode; initComponents() { createctrl("EDIT", "test", 2, 1, 0, 24, 70, 25, TEXTBOX); wndshow(TEXTBOX, SW_SHOW); guigetfocus(); } main() { filehandle = fileopen(OpenFileDlg("Plain Text Files (*.txt)|*.txt; All Files (*.*)|*.*"), 0, FILE_READWRITE); file_len = filegetlen(filehandle); if(filehandle == -1) { MessageBox("File Could Not Be Found!", "Error", 3, 1); } initComponents(); editset(TEXTBOX, fileread(filehandle, file_len)); } It's all ok, but my test file, now have returns: Hello, World! PocketC Test Of My Editor Then when I open this file on the editor, instead of returns, I just see two squares(that means that it's a unknown character for that control), but if I change the control to a STATIC, it does he returns ok, but I can't edit the text if I use a STATIC. Then I want to know what I need to do to do the returns instead of showing those squares.

  • Integration of advertisement into WP7 apps: Any experiences?

    - by OneWorld
Has anyone of you guys integrated or is thinking about integrating either admob, MS pubCenter, adwhirl or any other advertising provider into your apps? Please share your experience... Who pays best? Any regulations? Any problems with getting the app approved by Microsoft Market? If you chose Admob: Which plugin do you suggest? This or that or another one? Any experiences in Europe or Germany? (MS pubCenter is US only so far) Edit: I think we discussed enough about acceptance of mobile advertisement. Let's focus now on the questions I asked. Edit 2: Hmm, maybe Stackoverlfow is a better place to discuss question 2-5. Could somebody migrate this one?

  • PNGException "crc corruption" when attempting to create ImageIcon objects from ZIP archive

    - by Nathan Strong
    I've got a ZIP file containing a number of PNG images that I am trying to load into my Java application as ImageIcon resources directly from the archive. Here's my code: import java.io.*; import java.util.Enumeration; import java.util.zip.*; import javax.swing.ImageIcon; public class Test { public static void main( String[] args ) { if( args.length == 0 ) { System.out.println("usage: java Test.java file.zip"); return; } File archive = new File( args[0] ); if( !archive.exists() || !archive.canRead() ) { System.err.printf("Unable to find/access %s.\n", archive); return; } try { ZipFile zip = new ZipFile(archive); Enumeration <? extends ZipEntry>e = zip.entries(); while( e.hasMoreElements() ) { ZipEntry entry = (ZipEntry) e.nextElement(); int size = (int) entry.getSize(); int count = (size % 1024 == 0) ? size / 1024 : (size / 1024)+1; int offset = 0; int nread, toRead; byte[] buffer = new byte[size]; for( int i = 0; i < count; i++ ) { offset = 1024*i; toRead = (size-offset > 1024) ? 1024 : size-offset; nread = zip.getInputStream(entry).read(buffer, offset, toRead); } ImageIcon icon = new ImageIcon(buffer); // boom -- why? } zip.close(); } catch( IOException ex ) { System.err.println(ex.getMessage()); } } } The sizes reported by entry.getSize() match the uncompressed size of the PNG files, and I am able to read the data out of the archive without any exceptions, but the creation of the ImageIcon blows up. The stacktrace: sun.awt.image.PNGImageDecoder$PNGException: crc corruption at sun.awt.image.PNGImageDecoder.getChunk(PNGImageDecoder.java:699) at sun.awt.image.PNGImageDecoder.getData(PNGImageDecoder.java:707) at sun.awt.image.PNGImageDecoder.produceImage(PNGImageDecoder.java:234) at sun.awt.image.InputStreamImageSource.doFetch(InputStreamImageSource.java:246) at sun.awt.image.ImageFetcher.fetchloop(ImageFetcher.java:172) at sun.awt.image.ImageFetcher.run(ImageFetcher.java:136) sun.awt.image.PNGImageDecoder$PNGException: crc corruption at sun.awt.image.PNGImageDecoder.getChunk(PNGImageDecoder.java:699) at sun.awt.image.PNGImageDecoder.getData(PNGImageDecoder.java:707) at sun.awt.image.PNGImageDecoder.produceImage(PNGImageDecoder.java:234) at sun.awt.image.InputStreamImageSource.doFetch(InputStreamImageSource.java:246) at sun.awt.image.ImageFetcher.fetchloop(ImageFetcher.java:172) at sun.awt.image.ImageFetcher.run(ImageFetcher.java:136) Can anyone shed some light on it? Google hasn't turned up any useful information.

  • VC7.1 C1204 internal compiler error

    - by Nathan Ernst
I'm working on modifying Firaxis' Civilization 4 core game DLL. The host application is built using VC7, hence the constraint (source not provided for the host EXE). I've been working on rewriting a large chunk of the code (focusing on low-hanging performance issues & memory leaks). I recently ran into an internal compiler error when trying to mod the code to use an array class instead of dynamically allocated 2-d arrays, I was going to use matrices from the boost lib (Civ4 is already using boost, so why not?). Basically, the issue comes down to: if I include "boost/numeric/ublas/matrix.hpp", I run into an internal compiler error C1204. MSDN has this to say: MSDN C1204 KB has this to say: KB 883655 So, I'm curious, is it possible to solve this error without a KB/SP being applied and dramatically reducing the complexity of the code? Additionally, as VC7 is no longer "supported", does anyone have a valid (supported) link for a VC7 service pack?

  • Video Synthesis - Making waves, pattern, gradients...

    - by Nathan
I'm writing a program to generate some trippy visuals. My code paints each pixel with a random blue value which loops at 0.04 second intervals. for (y = 0; y < 5.5; y += 0.2) { for (x = 0; x < 7.5; x += 0.2) { b = rand() / ((double) RAND_MAX); setPixelColor(x,y,r,g,b); } } I'd like to do more than just make blue noise... but my maths is a bit rusty, and Google isn't helping me much today, so it would be great if you could share anything you know about making waves, patterns, gradient animations, etc or links to such material.

  • SQLite Modify Column

    - by Nathan
I need to modify a column in a SQLite database but I have to do it programatically due to the database already being in production. From my research I have found that in order to do this I must do the following. Create a new table with new schema Copy data from old table to new table Drop old table Rename new table to old tables name That seems like a ridiculous amount of work for something that should be relatively easy. Is there not an easier way? All I need to do is change a constraint on a existing column and give it a default value.

  • No Binary File Generation

I've just bought a new laptop for me on the travel, then on my free time, I've started to test MinGW on it by trying to compile my own OS that is written in C++, then I've created all the files needed and the kernel.cpp: extern "C" void _main(struct multiboot_data* mbd, unsigned int magic); void _main( struct multiboot_data* mbd, unsigned int magic ) { char * boot_loader_name =(char*) ((long*)mbd)[16]; /* Print a letter to screen to see everything is working: */ unsigned char *videoram = (unsigned char *) 0xb8000; videoram[0] = 65; /* character 'A' */ videoram[1] = 0x07; /* forground, background color. */ } And tried to compile it with g++ G: g++ -o C:\kernel.o -c kernel.cpp -Wall -Wextra -Werror -nostdlib -nostartfiles -nodefaultlibs kernel.cpp: In function `void _main(multiboot_data*, unsigned int)': kernel.cpp:8: warning: unused variable 'boot_loader_name' kernel.cpp: At global scope: kernel.cpp:4: warning: unused parameter 'magic' G: But it don't create any binary file at C:/, what can I do?

  • Infopath 2007 and WCF Data Connection

    - by Nathan Fisher
I am having trouble trying to connect an Infopath 2007 form to an WCF web service. I appears that the Infopath only wants to communicate via a SOAP 1.0 message. To get around the issue for the moment I have created an .asmx web service. Should I consider continuing down this workaround or figure out a way to get WCF to dish out SOAP 1.0 1.1 messages?

  • How to make a custom NSFormatter work correctly on Snow Leopard?

    - by Nathan
    I have a custom NSFormatter attached to several NSTextFields who's only purpose is to uppercase the characters as they are typed into field. The entire code for my formatter is included below. The stringForObjectValue() and getObjectValue() implementations are no-ops and taken pretty much directly out of Apple's documentation. I'm using the isPartialStringValid() method to return an uppercase version of the string. This code works correctly in 10.4 and 10.5. When I run it on 10.6, I get "strange" behaviour where text fields aren't always render the characters that are typed and sometimes are just displaying garbage. I've tried enabling NSZombie detection and running under Instruments but nothing was reported. I see errors like the following in "Console": HIToolbox: ignoring exception '*** -[NSCFString replaceCharactersInRange:withString:]: Range or index out of bounds' that raised inside Carbon event dispatch ( 0 CoreFoundation 0x917ca58a __raiseError + 410 1 libobjc.A.dylib 0x94581f49 objc_exception_throw + 56 2 CoreFoundation 0x917ca2b8 +[NSException raise:format:arguments:] + 136 3 CoreFoundation 0x917ca22a +[NSException raise:format:] + 58 4 Foundation 0x9140f528 mutateError + 218 5 AppKit 0x9563803a -[NSCell textView:shouldChangeTextInRange:replacementString:] + 852 6 AppKit 0x95636cf1 -[NSTextView(NSSharing) shouldChangeTextInRanges:replacementStrings:] + 1276 7 AppKit 0x95635704 -[NSTextView insertText:replacementRange:] + 667 8 AppKit 0x956333bb -[NSTextInputContext handleTSMEvent:] + 2657 9 AppKit 0x95632949 _NSTSMEventHandler + 209 10 HIToolbox 0x93379129 _ZL23DispatchEventToHandlersP14EventTargetRecP14OpaqueEventRefP14HandlerCallRec + 1567 11 HIToolbox 0x933783f0 _ZL30SendEventToEventTargetInternalP14OpaqueEventRefP20OpaqueEventTargetRefP14HandlerCallRec + 411 12 HIToolbox 0x9339aa81 SendEventToEventTarget + 52 13 HIToolbox 0x933fc952 SendTSMEvent + 82 14 HIToolbox 0x933fc2cf SendUnicodeTextAEToUnicodeDoc + 700 15 HIToolbox 0x933fbed9 TSMKeyEvent + 998 16 HIToolbox 0x933ecede TSMProcessRawKeyEvent + 2515 17 AppKit 0x95632228 -[NSTextInputContext handleEvent:] + 1453 18 AppKit 0x9562e088 -[NSView interpretKeyEvents:] + 209 19 AppKit 0x95631b45 -[NSTextView keyDown:] + 751 20 AppKit 0x95563194 -[NSWindow sendEvent:] + 5757 21 AppKit 0x9547bceb -[NSApplication sendEvent:] + 6431 22 AppKit 0x9540f6fb -[NSApplication run] + 917 23 AppKit 0x95407735 NSApplicationMain + 574 24 macsetup 0x00001f9f main + 24 25 macsetup 0x00001b75 start + 53 ) Can anybody shed some light on what is happening?   • ASP.NET MVC - Binding a Child Entity to the Model

    - by Nathan Taylor
This one seems painfully obvious to me, but for some reason I can't get it working the way I want it to. Perhaps it isn't possible the way I am doing it, but that seems unlikely. This question may be somewhat related: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1274855/asp-net-mvc-model-binding-related-entities-on-same-page. I have an EditorTemplate to edit an entity with multiple related entity references. When the editor is rendered the user is given a drop down list to select related entities from, with the drop down list returning an ID as its value. <%=Html.DropDownListFor(m => m.Entity.ID)%> When the request is sent the form value is named as expected: "Entity.ID", however my strongly typed Model defined as an action parameter doesn't have Entity.ID populated with the value passed in the request. public ActionResult AddEntity(EntityWithChildEntities entityWithChildEntities) { } I tried fiddling around with the Bind() attribute and specified Bind(Include = "Entity.ID") on the entityWithChildEntities, but that doesn't seem to work. I also tried Bind(Include = "Entity"), but that resulted in the ModelBinder attempting to bind a full "Entity" definition (not surprisingly). Is there any way to get the default model binder to fill the child entity ID or will I need to add action parameters for each child entity's ID and then manually copy the values into the model definition?

  • Combining prefixes in SSE

    - by Nathan Fellman
In SSE the prefixes 066h (operand size override) 0F2H (REPNE) and 0F3h (REPE) are part of the opcode. In non-SSE 066h switches between 32-bit (or 64-bit) and 16-bit operation. 0F2h and 0F3h are used for string operations. They can be combined so that 066h and 0F2h (or 0F3h) can be used in the same instruction, because this is meaningful. What is the behavior in an SSE instruction? For instance, we have (ignoring mod/rm for now): 0f 58 -- addps 66 0f 58 -- addpd f2 0f 58 -- addsd f3 0f 58 -- addss But what is this? 66 f2 0f 58 And how about? f2 66 0f 58 Not to mention the following which has two conflicting REP prefixes: f2 f3 0f 58 What is the spec for thse?

  • Why I Love Microsoft Development

    - by Brian Lanham
I've been writing software for a while and recently had an opportunity to broaden my horizons and start developing for iOS. We decided to leverage, as much as possible, our existing skills and use MonoTouch and MonoDevelop by Novell.    For those of you who do not know, Mono is a .NET port originally designed for Linux but adapted for other platforms as well. MonoTouch is a port specifically for building iOS applications using the .NET framework. MonoDroid is a port (in CTP-esque release) for Android.   A MISSING COMPONENT - VISUAL DESIGNER   MonoDevelop lacks one very significant component compared with other tools I am using: NO VISUAL DESIGNER. Instead of using an integrated visual designer, MonoDevelop shells to the Mac OS "Interface Builder".  Since MonoDevelop lets me have a "Visual Studio-esque" feel *and* I get to use C#, AND it's FREE, I am gladly willing to overlook this.  In fact, it's not even a question.  Free?  Sure, I'll take it with no Visual Designer.   In my experiences I've grown from UNIX and DOS to .NET development through many steps. Java/JSP/Servlets; Windows; Web; etc. I've been doing .NET for quite a few years and I guess I just got "comfortable" with the tools.   WHY AM I NOT GETTING IT?   Interface Builder (IB) is amazingly confusing for me. I had the opportunity to speak at the Northern VA Code Camp on 12/11/2010. My presentation was "Getting Started with iOS Development using MonoTouch and C#".    At the visual design part of the presentation, I asked one of the 3 or 4 Mac developers in the room about my confusion with the IB. I don't understand why the "Classes" list includes objects. I don't understand what "File's Owner" is. And, most importantly, WHAT THE HECK IS AN OUTLET AND WHY IS IT NECESSARY?!?!?"   His response to these question (especially Outlets): "They did it wrong."   I'm accustom to a visual designer that creates variables for graphical widgets for me. Not IB. Instead, I have to create "Outlets" manually. I still do not understand why and, the explanation from a seasoned Mac developer is that it's wrong. (He received nods of confirmation from the other Mac devs in the room.)   I LOVE MS DEV   I love development for Microsoft platforms using Microsoft development tools. I love Windows 7. I love Visual Studio 2010. I love SQL Server. Azure, Entity Framework, Active Directory, Office, WCF/WF/WPF, etc. are all designed with integration in mind. They are also all designed with developers in mind.   Steve Ballmer recently ranted "It's the developers!" That's why it is relatively quick to build apps using MS tools. Clearly, MS knows that while we usually enjoy building technology solutions, we are here to make money. And we need tools that accelerate our time to market without compromising the power and quality of our solutions.   So, yeah, I am sucking up I guess. But I love Microsoft Development. Thank you, Microsoft, for providing the plethora of great development tools.    P.S. (but please slow down a bit…I'm having trouble keeping up!)

  • Is it possible to capture mouse events on a scroll bar in JavaScript

    - by Nathan
I have an HTML element with overflow: scroll. The click event listener registered with the element is triggered when I click on the element, but not when I click on the scroll bar for the element. Is it possible to capture mouse events which occur on an HTML element's scroll bar? The reason I want to do this is to make a visual popup element disappear when ever a click event occurs anywhere outside the popup element.

  • Using TortoiseHg to push to an authenticated git repository

    - by Nathan Palmer
I'm trying to push a changeset from a local Mercurial repository created with TortoiseHg to a remote Git repository. I have hg-git installed and configured and it will pull just fine. But when I run the push it gives me this Command hg push git+ssh://git@dummyrepo:username/repo.git Result pushing to git+ssh://git@dummyrepo:username/repo.git importing Hg objects into Git creating and sending data abort: the remote end hung up unexpectedly There are several things I've done to get to this point. But I'm hoping to resolve this last thing because I find TortoiseHg to be much easier to work with than any of the Git tools out there (for windows.) Installed TortoiseHg Pulled down the hg-git from http://bitbucket.org/durin42/hg-git/ Configured mercurial.ini to point to the hg-git library Pulled down dulwich source from git://git.samba.org/jelmer/dulwich.git Compiled dulwich and put it into library.zip for TortoiseHg Configured TortoiseHg to use TortoisePlink.exe for ssh Added my private key to Pageant Any ideas what I could be missing?

  • Windows8, JavaScript and HTML5 - A good thing?

    - by Albers
Most of us have seen the Windows 8 news regarding support for native HTML5/JavaScript applications. The press has pushed this as a potential threat to the .NET developer community because JavaScript and HTML5 were called "our new developer platform". The press release refers to "Web-connected and Web-powered apps built using HTML5 and JavaScript that have access to the full power of the PC.".Microsoft has also been hush on details related to these comments. Before we buy the hype and start worrying about a world where we drop our Visual Studio licenses and buy DreamWeaver - let's think about how Windows 8 HTML/JavaScript applications would be implemented. The HTML5 spec offers support for offline applications, but this won't offer the OS-integrated experience the press release refers to. MS has to be planning a way to extend access beyond the traditional JavaScript feature set. Microsoft has a similar option today: HTML Applications or HTAs. They come close to required features, but HTAs need ActiveX or Java integration to provide the promised OS-level access. I'm guessing that Microsoft's future OS strategy isn't built on developers cranking out ActiveX controls or Java applets. So where is Microsoft headed? One possibility is that MS builds a new JavaScript framework from the ground up outside their current APIs. Another idea would be for Microsoft to add support for JavaScript as a first class .NET language using the Dynamic Language Runtime. A solution based on the DLR could be integrated into an HTA-like model to provide the promised access, along with the full range of features in .NET Framework. Security comes included in the Framework. And the work necessary to support this integration would tie in nicely with the effort MS has recently made providing better JavaScript and HTML5 support in Visual Studio 2010. As a bonus, a full-fledged JavaScript DLR implementation would allow single language web solutions across client and server (think node.js) and would appeal to developers who are familiar with JavaScript but have less experience with the Microsoft tech stack. We will all get a better picture after the Build conference in September. But in the mean time we know that Microsoft has a reputation for providing strong developer support. We might want to reserve our harshest judgement and consider that the press release could hint at new opportunities for .NET development.

  • Precompile Lambda Expression Tree conversions as constants?

    - by Nathan
It is fairly common to take an Expression tree, and convert it to some other form, such as a string representation (for example this question and this question, and I suspect Linq2Sql does something similar). In many cases, perhaps even most cases, the Expression tree conversion will always be the same, i.e. if I have a function public string GenerateSomeSql(Expression<Func<TResult, TProperty>> expression) then any call with the same argument will always return the same result for example: GenerateSomeSql(x => x.Age) //suppose this will always return "select Age from Person" GenerateSomeSql(x => x.Ssn) //suppose this will always return "select Ssn from Person" So, in essence, the function call with a particular argument is really just a constant, except time is wasted at runtime re-computing it continuously. Assuming, for the sake of argument, that the conversion was sufficiently complex to cause a noticeable performance hit, is there any way to pre-compile the function call into an actual constant?

  • Getting Error When Opening Files

    - by Nathan Campos
I'm developing a simple Text Editor to understand better PocketC language, then I've done this: #include "\\Storage Card\\My Documents\\PocketC\\Parrot\\defines.pc" int filehandle; int file_len; string file_mode; initComponents() { createctrl("EDIT", "test", 2, 1, 0, 24, 70, 25, TEXTBOX); wndshow(TEXTBOX, SW_SHOW); guigetfocus(); } main() { filehandle = fileopen(OpenFileDlg("Plain Text Files (*.txt)|*.txt; All Files (*.*)|*.*"), 0, FILE_READWRITE); file_len = filegetlen(filehandle); if(filehandle = -1) { MessageBox("File Could Not Be Found!", "Error", 3, 1); } initComponents(); editset(TEXTBOX, fileread(filehandle, file_len)); } Then I tried to run the application, it opens the Open File Dialog, I select a file(that is at \test.txt) that I've created with notepad, then I got my MessageBox saying that the file wans't found. Then I want to know why I'm getting this if the file is all correct? *PS: When I click to exit the MessageBox, I saw that the TextBox is displaying where the file is(I've tested with many other files, and with all I got the error and this).
