• Why can't I expose an interface in a .NET asmx web service?

  I have a .NET web service (using asmx...have not upgraded to WCF yet) that exposes the following: public class WidgetVersion1 : IWidget {} public class WidgetVersion2 : IWidget {} When I attempt to bind to the web service, I get the following serialization error: Cannot serialize member WidgetVersion1 of type IWidget because it is an interface. I have tried adding various attributes to the IWidget interface (XmlIgnore, SoapIgnore, NonSerialized), but they are not valid on an interface. Does anyone know why I am unable to expose the interface? I assume WSDL does not support interfaces, but couldn't .NET get around this by simply not serializing the interface? Are there any ways around this apart from removing the IWidget interface from the WidgetVersion1 and WidgetVersion2 class definitions?

• Binding Navigation Property with Entity Framework

  Hi, I have another question about binding using C# and the entity framework. Here, I'm looking to bind a navigation property to a listbox or a listview. I saw on different posts that if I update the collection using code behind the list would not be notified because the collection does not handle notification (it's always the same problem anyway). People suggested to use an ObservableCollection for example, but, and here is my question, this comes down to basically duplicate the collection and hence, if I modify it, I'd have to handle in code-behind the fact that the change has also to be applied to the "original" navigation property right? If that's the case, I was thinking: why not create a custom property called, say, MyObservableNavigationProperty in a partial class. I could then interact only with this collection, catch the event when the collection is changed and apply the change to the "original" collection. Is that a nice way to do the trick? or am I getting all confused here....

• keypress event not being triggered only at start and end of text field in Firefox (JQuery)

  I'm listening for keypress events on an input field with delegation. For some reason, Firefox doesn't trigger the delegated event for cursor UP when at the start of the field, or cursor DOWN when at the end. LEFT and RIGHT work as expected all the time. Directly binding an event listener to the field works fine, so it has to be something to do with delegation. If I add or delete any row to the DataSet then new data will occur in dridview, BUT filter will not work with new data. As I found on the forums there is a Table cash, which .NET uses for filter and I want to refresh it. How can I do it?

  I am going to be developing a large project which will include a large number of ComboBoxes. Most of these combo boxes will be bound to a database field which is a related to another daataset/table. For instance. I have the following 2 tables: Company {CompanyID, CompanyName, MainContact} Contacts {ContactID, ContactName} And when the user clicks to edit a company, A TextBox will be there to edit a company name, but also a ComboBox will be there. The way I am currently doing it is binding the ComboBox to the Contacts dataset, and manually updating the Company MainContact field in code behind. Is there anyway for me to bind the selected item to the Company MainContact field in XAML and the items to the ContactName and eliminate the code behind? Reason for this is when you start making 100's combo boxes all over the application it gets long winded each time creating code behind to do the update.

  I have built a dynamic gridview using the following code grdVariants.Columns.Clear(); int i = 0; foreach (DataColumn column in options.Columns) { grdVariants.Columns.Add(new GridViewColumn { Header = column.ColumnName, DisplayMemberBinding = new Binding(string.Format("[{0}]", i++)) }); } This will dynamically generate my columns at runtime, I then bind the data using lstVariantsGrid.DataContext = options; lstVariantsGrid.Items.Refresh(); This all works great and shows the data in the correct columns etc, the only issue i have is that I can't style the rows like I would in xaml as it is all an unknown quantity until runtime. Can anyone offer some advice on how I might go about doing this? One of the biggest problems I have is that one of the columns needs to display the image rather than just the path which it currently shows, as well as fiddling with fonts and colors etc. Thanks for your time.

Meaning, on running the exe after building I want to show the build number say 10 in my application somewhere. In project configuration file, I have used ${BUILD_NUMBER}, that a hudson understands and creates a build with the revision number. If I build the Project revision # 10, I get 10.exe. • Can't get Angular Dart Router to work

I've used both a print statement and breakpoint to no avail.   I have a jquery UI datePicker in my page. I have a text box on which the date is displayed. The code is: $("#cal").datepicker({ minDate: new Date(), defaultDate: new Date(), buttonImage: '/images/calendar.gif', constrainInput: false, closeText: 'Close', showButtonPanel: true, showButtonText: 'Choose a date', buttonImageOnly : true, showOn : 'button' }); $("#till").datepicker('setDate', today); I want to disable this on some conditions. I use the following code to disable: $("#cal").datePicker('disable'); It blacks out the text box but the image is still clickable. The problem is in IE, the date picker pop up comes up but does not close when the image button associated with the date picker is clicked. I also tried to bind a onclick function with the image to make it non-clickable. But that does not work as well. How can make the date picker image button non-clickable when the date picker is disabled. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Farzana

  I would like to know what do you think about storing chat messages in a database? I need to be able to bind other stuff to them (like files, or contacts) and using a database is the best way I see for now. The same question comes for files, because they can be bound to chat messages, I have to store them in the database too.. With thousands of messages and files I wonder about performance drops and database size. What do you think considering I'm using PHP with MySQL/Doctrine?

  Hello, I recently heard of the jQuery datalink plugin and wondered if I should be using if for the following: I have a an inbox in my app that consists of the following: Inbox (index) - List of Items (list of mails) Inbox (show) Item Viewer (1 mail) Inbox Unread Counter The challenge I'm having now is a user can mark a mail as read/unread in either view which makes keeping the counter accurate challenging. Can datalink help with this? If so how? Also, I read that datalink requires forms is that true? Or can I bind the links to anything like 0 and anytime a mailitem changes from read to unread it would automatically update? Thanks

  Simple Silverlight question: I have an ObservableCollection<MyObject> in my viewmodel. Every MyObject has a Label property. If I bind a ListBox to the collection and set DisplayMemberPath to Label, or set the ItemTemplate to a TextBlock that binds the Text property to Label, all works as expected. If I change MyObject so it derives from a UserControl, the Label text no longer shows up in the ListBox; each item just shows up as a blank strip a few pixels tall. Why is this? There's obviously something I'm missing here about how different things get rendered.

I am creating a wx.ComboBox and trying to mimic it's functionality for testing purposes by posting a wxEVT_COMMAND_COMBOBOX_SELECTED event... this event strangely works fine for wx.Choice, but it doesn't do anything to the ComboBox. There doesn't appear to be a different event that I can post to the combobox, but maybe I'm missing something. • Best practice when working with web services that return objects?

  Hello, I'm currently working with web services that return objects such as a list of files e.g. File array. I wanted to know whether its best practice to bind this type of object directly to my front end code for example a repeater/listview or whether to first parse it into my own list of "file class" e.g. customFiles[] If the web service changes then it will break my front end code, however if I create my own CustomFile class, then i would only need to change my code in one place to fix the issue, but it just seems like a lot of extra work to create the same classes from a web service, i wanted to know what is the best practice for this type of work. thanks Raj.

  I have an image that was originally a PNG that I have converted to a byte[] and saved in a database. Originally, I simply read the PNG into a memory stream and converted the stream into a byte[]. Now I want to read the byte[] back and convert it to a BitmapImage, so that I can bind a WPF Image control to it. I am seeing a lot of contradictory and confusing code online to accomplish the task of converting a byte[] to a BitmapImage. I am not sure whether I need to add any code due to the fact that the image was originally a PNG. Can anyone provide the code to convert the stream to a BitmapImage? Thanks for your help.

  From my understanding from reading about ASP.NET asynchronous pages, the method which executes when the asynchronous task begins ALWAYS EXECUTES between the prerender and the pre-render Complete events. So because the page's controls' events run between the page's load and prerender events, is it true that whatever the begin task handler (handler for BeginAsync below) produces, it can't be used in the controls' events? So for example, if the handler gets data from a database, the data can't be used in any of the controls' postback events? Would you bind data to a data control after prerender? • Removing values from a returned linq query

  HI there I am hoping for some help with a query I have. I have this query var group = from r in CustomerItem group r by r.StoreItemID into g select new { StoreItemID = g.Key, ItemCount = g.Count(), ItemAmount = Customer.Sum(cr => cr.ItemAmount),RedeemedAmount = Customer.Sum(x => x.RedeemedAmount) }; I am returning my results to a list so I can bind it listbox. I have a property called EntryType which is an int. There are 2 available numbers 1 or 2 Lets say I had 3 items that my query is working with 2 of them had the EntryType = 1 and the 3rd had EntryType2. The first records had a ItemAmount of 55.00 and the 3rd had a ItemAmount of 50.00 How can I group using something simlar to above but minus the ItemAmount of 50.00 from the grouped amount to return 60.00? Any help would be great!!
